| 1 | Relationship between petroleum hydrocarbon and plankton in a mesocosm experiment显示文摘A mesocosm experiment was carried out from May 26 to June 1, 1998 at the location of 30’52’N, 122’36’E, the Changjiang Estuary, in order to measure the influence of petroleum hydrocar- bon to the ecosystem, furthermore, to estimate the environmental capacity. In the experiment, it is found that the petroleum hydrocarbon can, in some degree, enhance the growth of diatom, but inhibit the growth of dinoflagellate. In general, the petroleum hydrocarbon can inhibit the growth of both Phytoplankton and zooplankton, and can the inhibit the growth of total plankton (including phytoplankton and zooplankton) as well. A kinetic model was presented to estimate the uptake/release rate constants of petroleum hydrocarbon by plankton, and thereafter, the uptake and release rate constants (k1, k2), bioconcentration factor (BCF) as well as the petroleum bydrocarbon influenced influenced uptake and release rate constants of nutrients by phytoplankton (kup, krel) were obtained. The results imply that the bioconcentration of petroleum hydrocarbon by plankton is fairly large and petroleum hydrocarbon caused no significant influence on the uptake of N- NO3, but significant influence on that of P -PO4. | 2 | Nutrient composition and distributions in coastal waters impacted by the Changjiang plume显示文摘Four cruises were conducted during 2002-2003 in the Changjiang Estuary and adjacent coastal areas. The data presented show a clear coast to open sea gradient in nutrients related to the river inputs. Maximum values of chlorophyll a were typically observed at intermediate salinities at surface water and coincided with non-conservative decreases in nutrients along the salinity gradient,indicating that removal of nutrients was related to phytoplankton uptake. The seasonal variations of nutrient concentrations were just opposite to those of chlorophyll a,indicating that the seasonal variations of nutrients were mainly controlled by phytoplankton uptake,whereas riverine inputs merely weakened or balanced its extent. During the estuarine mixing,phosphate demonstrated some remobilization during all the four cruises; whereas both conservative and non-conservative behaviors for dissolved inorganic nitrogen and silicate were observed in the study area,indicating that both biotic and abiotic events may affect their behaviors during the estuarine mixing. Under the influence of freshwater inputs with high value of ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus,the estuarine and coastal waters impacted by the Changjiang plume were high (>30) in ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus,but rates of primary production were apparently not constrained by any kind of nutrient elements. | 3 | Seasonal Changes in Phytoplankton Biomass and Dominant Species in the Changjiang River Estuary and Adjacent Seas:General Trends Based on Field Survey Data 1959-2009显示文摘The characteristics of seasonal variation in phytoplankton biomass and dominant species in the Changjiang River Estuary and adjacent seas were discussed based on field investigation data from 1959 to 2009. The field data from 1981 to 2004 showed that the Chlorophyll-a concentration in surface seawater was between 0.4 and 8.5 μg dm-3. The seasonal changes generally presented a bimodal trend, with the biomass peaks occurring in May and August, and Chlorophyll-a concentration was the lowest in winter. Seasonal biomass changes were mainly controlled by temperature and nutrient levels. From the end of autumn to the next early spring, phytoplankton biomass was mainly influenced by temperature, and in other seasons, nutrient level(including the nutrient supply from the terrestrial runoffs) was the major influence factor. Field investigation data from 1959 to 2009 demonstrated that diatoms were the main phytoplankton in this area, and Skeletonema costatum, Pseudo-nitzschia pungens, Coscinodiscus oculus-iridis, Thalassinoema nitzschioides, Paralia sulcata, Chaetoceros lorenzianus, Chaetoceros curvisetus, and Prorocentrum donghaiense Lu were common dominant species. The seasonal variations in major dominant phytoplankton species presented the following trends: 1) Skeletonema(mainly S. costatum) was dominant throughout the year; and 2) seasonal succession trends were Coscinodiscus(spring) →Chaetoceros(summer and autumn) → Coscinodiscus(winter). The annual dominance of S. costatum was attributed to its environmental eurytopicity and long standing time in surface waters. The seasonal succession of Coscinodiscus and Chaetoceros was associated with the seasonal variation in water stability and nutrient level in this area. | 4 | Modelling Nitrogen and Phosphorus Dynamics in a Mesocosm Pelagic Ecosystem in Laizhou Bay in China显示文摘A model of nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics in mesocosm experiments was established on the basis of a summary and synthesis of the existing models. The established model comprised seven state variables(DIN,PO4-P,DON,DOP,phytoplankton,zooplankton and detritus) and five modules - phytoplankton,zooplankton,dissolved inorganic nutrients,dissolved organic nutrients and detritus. Comparison with the in situ experimental data in Laizhou Bay at the end of August 2002 showed that this model could properly simulate the variations of DIN,PO4-P,and phytoplankton biomass in a mesocosm pelagic ecosystem. It was found that not only the model structure but also the parameters adopted were fit for simulation. The sensitivity of the main state variables to the parameter change was assessed by sensitivity analysis. | 7 | Estimation of the Maximum Allowable Loading Amount of COD in Luoyuan Bay by a 3-D COD Transport and Transformation Model显示文摘The rapid economic and social developments in the Luoyuan and Lianjiang counties of Fujian Province, China, raise certain environment and ecosystem issues. The unusual phytoplankton bloom and eutrophication, for example, have increased in severity in Luoyuan Bay(LB). The constant increase of nutrient loads has largely caused the environmental degradation in LB. Several countermeasures have been implemented to solve these environmental problems. The most effective of these strategies is the reduction of pollutant loadings into the sea in accordance with total pollutant load control(TPLC) plans. A combined three-dimensional hydrodynamic transport-transformation model was constructed to estimate the marine environmental capacity of chemical oxygen demand(COD). The allowed maximum loadings for each discharge unit in LB were calculated with applicable simulation results. The simulation results indicated that the environmental capacity of COD is approximately 11×104 t year-1 when the water quality complies with the marine functional zoning standards for LB. A pollutant reduction scheme to diminish the present levels of mariculture- and domestic-based COD loadings is based on the estimated marine COD environmental capacity. The obtained values imply that the LB waters could comply with the targeted water quality criteria. | 11 | Perspective: Predicting and optimizing thermal transport properties with machine learning methods显示文摘In recent years, (big) data science has emerged as the “fourth paradigm” in physical science research. Data-driven techniques, e.g. machine learning, are advantageous in dealing with problems of high-dimensional features and complex mappings between quantities, which are otherwise of great difficulty or huge cost with other scientific paradigms. In the past five years or so, there has been a rapid growth of machine learning-assisted research on thermal transport. In this perspective, we review the recent progress in the intersection between machine learning and thermal transport, where machine learning methods generally serve as surrogate models for predicting the thermal transport properties, or as tools for designing structures for the desired thermal properties and exploring thermal transport mechanisms. We provide perspectives about the advantages of machine learning methods in comparison to the physics-based methods for studying thermal transport properties. We also discuss how to improve the accuracy of predictive analytics and efficiency of structural optimization, to provide guidance for better utilizing machine learning-based methods to advance thermal transport research. | 12 | A Model Describing the Time Course and Variability in Toxicity of Hydrophobic Chemicals to Aquatic Organisms-Toxicity of chlorinated benzenes to marine algae显示文摘The growth of Chlorella marine, Nannochloris oculate, Pyramimonaos sp., Platymonas subcordiformis and Phaeodactylum tricornutum exposed to chlorobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobenzene and pentach-lorobenzene was tested. The Boltzman equation was used to describe organism growth. The time course for uptake of hydrophobic organic chemicals (HOCs) by aquatic organisms was expressed by incorporating growth and, if desired, the effect of metabolism into the HOC bioconcentration process. The probability of any given concentration of HOCs in the organisms causing a specified toxic endpoint was expressed with a modified Weibull distribution function. The combined bioconcentration and probability equations were tested with data for time course of incubation of algae exposed to chlorinated benzenes (CBs). A set of parameters, including the uptake rate constant k 1, the elimination rate constant k 2 and thereafter the bioconcentration factor on a dry weight basis, BCF D, the critical HOC concentration in the organism resulting in a specified toxic endpoint, C* A, and the spread factor, S, could be obtained by fitting only experimental data for percent growth inhibition(%)-time-CB exposure concentration. The average coefficients of variation within CBs were 15.2% for BCF D, 21.0% for k 1, 18.3% for k 2, 8.1% for C* A and 9.7% for S. | 14 | MrgprF acts as a tumor suppressor in cutaneous melanoma by restraining PI3K/Akt signaling显示文摘The incidence of cutaneous melanoma(CM)has been increasing annually worldwide.In this study,we identify that MrgprF,a MAS related GPR family member,is decreased in cutaneous melanoma tissues and cell lines due to hypermethylation of its promoter region,and show that patients with CM expressing high levels of MrgprF exhibit an improved clinical outcome.We demonstrate that MrgprF forced expression inhibits tumor cell proliferation,migration,xenograft tumor growth,and metastasis.On the contrary,MrgprF knockdown promotes tumor cell proliferation and transformation of immortalized human keratinocyte-HaCaT cells,supporting the inhibitory role of MrgprF during tumor progression.Mechanistic studies reveal that MrgprF reduces the phosphoinositol‑3‑kinase(PI3K)complex formation between p101 and p110γsubunits,the critical step for phosphatidylinositol-(3,4)-P2(PIP2)conversion to phosphatidylinositol-(3,4,5)-P3(PIP3),and then reduces the activation of PI3K/Akt signaling.This effect can be reversed by Akt specific agonist SC79.In addition,AMG 706,a previously documented inhibitor for endothelial cell proliferation,is identified as a potential agonist for MrgprF,and can impede tumor growth both in vitro and in vivo.Taken together,our findings suggest that MrgprF,a novel tumor suppressor in cutaneous melanoma,may be useful as a therapeutic target in the future. | Qiushuo Shen Yanfei Han Kai Wu Yaomei He Xiulin Jiang Peishen Liu Cuifeng Xia Qiuxia Xiong Rui Liu Qianming Chen Yong Zhang Song Zhao Cuiping Yang Yongbin Chen | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,6: | 0 |
