1China's lakes at present:Number,area and spatial distribution显示文摘Based on 11004 satellite images from CBERS CCD and Landsat TM/ETM,changes in the spatial characteristics of all lakes in China were determined following pre-established interpretation rules.This dataset was supported by 6843 digital raster images(1:100000 and 1:50000),a countrywide digital vector dataset(1:250000),and historical literature.Comparative data were corrected for seasonal variations using precipitation data.There are presently 2693 natural lakes in China with an area greater than 1.0 km2,excluding reservoirs.These lakes are distributed in 28 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities and have a total area of 81414.6 km2,accounting for-0.9% of China's total land area.In the past 30 years,the number of newly formed and newly discovered lakes with an area greater than 1.0 km2 is 60 and 131,respectively.Conversely,243 lakes have disappeared in this time period.MA RongHua YANG GuiShan DUAN HongTao JIANG JiaHu WANG SuMin FENG XueZhi LI AiNong KONG FanXiang XUE Bin WU JingLu LI ShiJie 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,2:79
2Monitoring lake changes of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau over the past 30 years using satellite remote sensing data显示文摘During the years 2006–2009,lakes in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP)were investigated using satellite remote sensing strategies.We report the results of this investigation as well as follow-up research and expanded work.For the investigation,we mainly focused on lakes whose areas are more than 1 km2.The remote sensing data that we used included 408 scenes of CBERS CCD images and 5 scenes of Landsat ETM?images in Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous Region.All these data were acquired around years 2005–2006.Besides remote sensing images,we also collected 1,259 topographic maps.Numbers and areas of lakes were analyzed statistically,which were then compared with those coming from the first lake investigation(implemented between the1960s and 1980s).According to our investigation,up to and around year 2005–2006,the total number of lakes in the QTP was 1,055(222 in Qinghai and 833 in Tibet),accounting for more than 30%of that of China.Thirty newborn lakes with area[1 km2were found,and 5 dead lakes with initial area[1 km2were also found.Among those 13 big lakes([500 km2),Yamzhog Yumco had seriously shrunk,and it has continued to shrink in recent years;Qinghai Lake had shrunk during the period,but some new researches indicated that it has been expanding since the year 2004;Siling Co,Nam Co,and Chibuzhang Co had expanded in the period.We divided the newborn lakes into six categories according to their forming reasons,including river expansion,wetland conversion,etc.The changes of natural conditions led to the death of four lakes,and human exploitation was the main reason for the death of Dalianhai Lake in Qinghai.We picked out three regions which were sensitive to the change of climate and ecological environment:Nagqu Region,Kekexili Region,and the source area of the Yellow River(SAYR).Lakes in both Nagqu and Kekexili have been expanded;meanwhile,most lakes in the SAYR have obviously been shrunk.These regional patterns of lake changes were highly related to variations of temperature,glacier,precipitation,and evaporation.Our investigation and analysis will provide references for researches related to lake changes in the QTP and the response to climate fluctuations.Wei Wan Pengfeng Xiao Xuezhi Feng Hui Li Ronghua Ma Hongtao Duan Limin Zhao 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,10:22

5From unusual suspect to serial killer: Cyanotoxins boosted by climate change may jeopardize megafauna显示文摘The recent mass mortality event of more than 330 African elephants in Botswana has been attributed to biotoxins produced by cyanobacteria;however,scientific evidence for this is lacking.Here,by synthesizing multiple sources of data,we show that,during the past decades,the widespread hypertrophic waters in Southern Africa have entailed an extremely high risk and frequent exposure of cyanotoxins to the wildlife within this area,which functions as a hotspot of mammal species richness.The hot and dry climatic extremes have most likely acted as the primary trigger of the recent and perhaps also of prehistoric mass mortality events.As such climate extremes are projected to become more frequent in Southern Africa in the near future,there is a risk that similar tragedies may take place,rendering African megafauna species,especially those that are already endangered,in risk of extinction.Moreover,cyanotoxin poisoning amplified by climate change may have unexpected cascading effects on human societies.Seen within this perspective,the tragic mass death of the world's largest terrestrial mammal species serves as an alarming early warning signal of future environmental catastrophes in Southern Africa.We suggest that systematic,quantitative cyanotoxin risk assessments are made and precautionary actions to mitigate the risks are taken without hesitation to ensure the health and sustainability of the megafauna and human societies within the region.Haijun Wang Chi Xu Ying Liu Erik Jeppesen Jens-Christian Svenning Jianguo Wu Wenxia Zhang Tianjun Zhou Puze Wang Shingirai Nangombe Jinge Ma Hongtao Duan Jingyun Fang Ping Xie 2021The Innovation2021,2,2:3
6Reflections on the Catastrophic 2020 Yangtze River Basin Flooding in Southern China显示文摘During the summer of 2020,southern China suffered from catastrophic flooding,the massive basin flood mainly occurred in the Yangtze River's middle and lower reaches.As of July 20,2020,the cumulative precipitation since the rain season started exceeded 500 mm over most of the Yangtze River Basin,reaching>1,200 mm in some areas of the lower reaches,exceeding the same period in 1998,the severest flood year in the past 60 years.Several water gauge stations at Poyang Lake and Chaohu Lake exceeded their historical record values.The water levels in the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River were among the highest ever recorded.As of July 22,2020,45.5 million people had been affected by the floods,with 142 people having died or were missing,and the direct economic losses expected to be around 116 billion RMB(~16.5 billion US dollars).However,the losses from this flood are much lower than those of previous major floods.For example,the catastrophic 1998 flooding led to 1,526 deaths and economic losses of 255 billion RMB(~36.4 billion US dollars).The reasons behind this are worthy of further study and discussion,and may be used for reference in the future and for other countries.Ke Wei Chaojun Ouyang Hongtao Duan Yunliang Li Mingxing Chen Jiao Ma Huicong An Shu Zhou 2020The Innovation2020,1,2:2
7Pressure induced convergence of conduction bands in Al doped Mg_(2)Si: Experiment and theory显示文摘High-pressure and high-temperature(HPHT)synthesis provides an effective way to tune the band structure of materials and improve their electronic properties.To investigate the influence of synthesis pressure on electronic properties,Mg_(1.97)Al_(0.03)Si samples were synthesized using the HPHT method.The maximum effective mass 0.92me is obtained for the sample prepared with the synthesis pressure of 3 GPa,leading to the biggest Seebeck coefficient201.3 mV/K at room temperature.Meanwhile,the 3 GPa sample obtains the higher electron carrier concentration and electrical conductivity,resulting in nearly overall enhancement of power factor.The Density Functional Theory(DFT)calculations evidences that the Conduction Bands Minimum(CBM)can be tuned effectively by applied pressure and the convergence of the CBM leads to a larger effective mass of DOS,which are beneficial to the enhancement of power factors.These results indicate that high-pressure is a powerful tool to tune Mg_(1.97)Al_(0.03)Si band structures.Jialiang Li Xiaolian Zhang Bo Duan Yunlong Cui Houjiang Yang Hongtao Wang Junchao Li Xiaojun Hu Gang Chen Pengcheng Zhai 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,1:2
8Static magnetic field-assisted synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles and their adsorption of Mn(Ⅱ) in aqueous solution显示文摘A facile method for synthesis of the magnetic Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles was introduced.Magnetic nanoparticles were prepared via co-precipitation method with(PMF) and without(AMF) 0.15 T static magnetic field.The effects of magnetic field on the properties of magnetic nanoparticles were studied by XRD,TEM,SEM,VSM and BET.The results showed that the magnetic field in the co-precipitation reaction process did not result in the phase change of the Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles but improved the crystallinity.The morphology of Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles was varied from random spherical particles to rod-like cluster structure.The VSM results indicated that the saturation magnetization value of the Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles was significantly improved by the magnetic field.The BET of Fe_3O_4nanoparticles prepared with the magnetic field was larger than the control by 23.5%.The batch adsorption experiments of Mn(Ⅱ) on the PMF and AMF Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles showed that the Mn(II) equilibrium capacity was increased with the pH value increased.At pH 8,the Mn(Ⅱ) adsorption capacity for the PMF and AMF Fe_3O_4 was reached at 36.81 and 28.36 mg·g^(-1),respectively.The pseudo-second-order model fitted better the kinetic models and the Freundlich model fitted isotherm model well for both PMF and AMF Fe_3O_4.The results suggested that magnetic nanoparticles prepared by the magnetic field presented a fairly good potential as an adsorbent for an efficient removal of Mn(Ⅱ) from aqueous solution.Yong Liu Jianfei Bai Hongtao Duan Xiaohong Yin 2017Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2017,25,1:2

18Remote determination of chromophoric dissolved organic matter in lakes, China显示文摘Chromophoric dissolved organic matter(CDOM)strongly influences the water-leaving radiance from aquatic ecosystems.In most inland waters,the remote determination of CDOM absorption presents a central challenge due to their complex optical conditions.However,identifying the temporal and spatial variability of CDOM is fundamental to the understanding of aquatic biogeo-chemical dynamics.In the present study,semi-analytical and empirical modeling approaches were used to examine CDOM absorption in four,shallow,inland water bodies using the spectral bands and sensitivities of major satellite observational systems.Of the models examined,an empirical multiband model was found to provide the highest correlation with measured CDOM absorption.The spectral characteristics of the MERIS sensors yielded the best results with respect to the other available satellite sensors.High detrital load was observed to be a major impediment to estimating CDOM absorption,while lakes with elevated phytoplankton biomass did not present similar problems.Guangjia Jiang Ronghua Ma Hongtao Duan Steven A.Loiselle Jingping Xu Dianwei Liu 2014International Journal of Digital Earth2014,7,11:1
