| 1 | Changes in Small Intestinal Motility and Related Hormones by Acupuncture Stimulation at Zusanli(ST 36) in Mice显示文摘Objective: To clarify the effects of acupuncture stimulation at Zusanli(ST 36) on the hormonal changes. Methods: Eight-week-old male C57BL/6 mice received acupuncture stimulation at acupoint ST 36 or Quchi(LI 11) once a day for 3 or 5 days in the acupuncture-stimulated groups, but not received in the normal group(n=6 in each group). On day 3 or 5, animals were given 0.1 m L of charcoal orally with a bulbed steel needle, 30 min after the last acupuncture stimulation. Ten minutes later, mice were anesthetized, and the intestinal transit and the concentrations of vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP), motilin, ghrelin and gastrin in the serum were measured. Results: Compared to no acupuncture stimulation, acupuncture stimulation at ST 36 for 5 days increased the intestinal transit and down-regulated the concentration of VIP and up-regulated the concentrations of motilin, ghrelin and gastrin(P<0.05 or 0.01), whereas acupuncture stimulation at LI 11 did not change them significantly(P>0.05). | 2 | Muscovite nanoparticles mitigate neuropathic pain by modulating the inflammatory response and neuroglial activation in the spinal cord显示文摘Despite numerous efforts to overcome neuropathic pain,various pharmacological drugs often fail to meet the needs and have many side effects.Muscovite is an aluminosilicate mineral that has been reported to have an anti-inflammatory effect,but the efficacy of muscovite for neuropathic pain has not been investigated.Here,we assessed whether muscovite nanoparticles can reduce the symptoms of pain by controlling the inflammatory process observed in neuropathic pain.The analgesic effects of muscovite nanoparticles were explored using partial sciatic nerve ligation model of neuropathic pain,in which one-third to onehalf of the nerve trifurcation of the sciatic nerve was tightly tied to the dorsal side.Muscovite nanoparticles(4 mg/100μL)was given intramuscularly to evaluate its effects on neuropathic pain(3 days per week for 4 weeks).The results showed that the muscovite nanoparticle injections significantly alleviated partial sciatic nerve ligation-induced mechanical and cold allodynia.In the spinal cord,the muscovite nanoparticle injections exhibited inhibitory effects on astrocyte and microglia activation and reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines,such as interleukin-1β,tumor necrosis factor-α,interleiukin-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1,which were upregulated in the partial sciatic nerve ligation model.Moreover,the muscovite nanoparticle injections resulted in a decrease in activating transcription factor 3,a neuronal injury marker,in the sciatic nerve.These results suggest that the analgesic effects of muscovite nanoparticle on partial sciatic nerve ligation-induced neuropathic pain may result from inhibiting activation of astrocytes and microglia as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines.We propose that muscovite nanoparticle is a potential anti-nociceptive candidate for neuropathic pain.All experimental protocols in this study were approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee(IACUC)at Dongguk University,South Korea(approval No.2017-022-1)on September 28,2017. | Ju-Young Oh Tae-Yeon Hwang Jae-Hwan Jang Ji-Yeun Park Yeonhee Ryu HyeJung Lee Hi-Joon Park | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020，15，11： | 7 |
| 3 | Antioxidant effect of indirect moxibustion on healthy subjects:a pilot study显示文摘OBJECTIVE:Moxibustion has long been thought to promote vital energy or immunity through clinical experience.This study aimed to investigate the clinical effects of indirect moxibustion on antioxidant and immunomodulation in a normal population.METHODS:Twenty-five healthy volunteers with no objective or subjective disorders were recruited.The participants were treated with indirect moxibustion on acupoints Guanyuan(CV 4) and Shenque(CV 8) three times per week for 4 weeks.The serum levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and malondialdehyde(MDA),the total antioxidant capacity(TAC),the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase(SOD),and the total glutathione content were determined before and after the 12th moxibustion.Lymphocyte subpopulations and 42 cytokines in the peripheral blood were analyzed using flow cytometry and antibody array,respectively.RESULTS:Compared with the initial time point,the serum levels of ROS and MDA were significantly lowered by moxibustion,while TAC was increased(P<0.01 for all).A significant increase was observed in catalase activity(P<0.05),but not in SOD or total glutathione.There were no significant changes in lymphocyte subpopulations or cytokines in the peripheral blood.Fifteen of 25 participants reported at least one symptom in which they felt subjective improvement after moxibustion.CONCLUSION:Indirect moxibustion on acupoints CV 4 and CV 8 improved the antioxidant defense system,which may be a mechanism explaining the clinical effects of moxibustion. | Hyejung Park Hyeunggeug Kim Sara Yoo Namhun Lee Changgue Son | 2012 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2012，32，4： | 7 |
| 4 | Multi-analyte analysis of cytokines that predict outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with radiotherapy显示文摘AIM To analyze cytokine levels and to identify their association with outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated with radiotherapy(RT). METHODS Patients with HCC who were treated with RT were eligible for this prospective study. Blood samples were collected before and after RT, and serum cytokine levels including interleukin(IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-α were analyzed. RESULTS Between 2008 and 2009, 51 patients were enrolled in this study. Baseline IL-6 level was high in patients with a history of pre-RT treatment. Median survival was 13.9 mo with alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) as a significant factor(P = 0.020). Median failure-free survival(FFS) for infield, outfield-intrahepatic and extrahepatic failures were 23.3, 11.5 and 12.0 mo, respectively. Sex and baseline IL-6 level were associated with infield FFS, and baseline IL-10 level was correlated with outfield-intrahepatic FFS. For extrahepatic FFS, AFP was significant(P =0.034). Patients with a baseline IL-6 level of ≥ 9.7 pg/m L showed worse infield FFS(P = 0.005), and this significance was observed only in treatment-non-na?ve patients(P = 0.022). CONCLUSION In addition to AFP, cytokines seem useful in predicting infield and outfield-intrahepatic failure.
