| 1 | Portal hypertension: Imaging of portosystemic collateral pathways and associated image-guided therapy显示文摘Portal hypertension is a common clinical syndrome, defined by a pathologic increase in the portal venous pressure. Increased resistance to portal blood flow, the primary factor in the pathophysiology of portal hypertension, is in part due to morphological changes occurring in chronic liver diseases. This results in rerouting of blood flow away from the liver through collateral pathways to low-pressure systemic veins. Through a variety of computed tomographic, sonographic, magnetic resonance imaging and angiographic examples, this article discusses the appearances and prevalence of both common and less common portosystemic collateral channels in the thorax and abdomen. A brief overview of established interventional radiologic techniques for treatment of portal hypertension will also be provided. | 2 | Clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography metrics in deep capillary plexus in patients with diabetes显示文摘Background:To test clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative artifact-free deep capillary plexus(DCP)metrics in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:563 eligible eyes(221 with no diabetic retinopathy[DR],135 with mild DR,130 with moderate DR,and 77 with severe DR)from 334 subjects underwent optical coherence tomography-angiography(OCT-A)with a swept-source OCT(Triton DRI-OCT,Topcon,Inc.,Tokyo,Japan).Strict criteria were applied to exclude from analysis those DCP images with artifacts and of poor quality,including projection artifacts,motion artifacts,blurriness,signal loss,B-scan segmentation error,or low-quality score.A customized MATLAB program was then used to quantify DCP morphology from the artifact-free DCP images by calculating three metrics:foveal avascular zone(FAZ),vessel density(VD),and fractal dimension(FD).Results:166(29.5%)eyes were excluded after quality control,leaving in the analysis 397 eyes(170 with no DR,101 with mild DR,90 with moderate DR,36 with severe DR)from 250 subjects.In the multiple regression models,larger FAZ area was associated with more severe DR(β=0.687;p=0.037),shorter axial length(AL)(β=−0.171;p=0.003),thinner subfoveal choroid thickness(β=−0.122;p=0.031),and lower body mass index(BMI)(β=−0.090;p=0.047).Lower VD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.842;p=0.001),shorter AL(β=0.107;p=0.039),and poorer visual acuity(VA)(β=−0.133;p=0.021).Lower FD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.891;p<0.001)and with older age(β=−0.142;p=0.004).Conclusions:Quantitative artifact-free DCP metrics are associated with VA,DR severity,AL,subfoveal choroidal thickness,age,and BMI in diabetic patients.The effects of ocular and systemic factors should be considered for meaningful interpretations of DCP changes in DM patients. | Fang Yao Tang Erica O.Chan Zihan Sun Raymond Wong Jerry Lok Simon Szeto Jason C.Chan Alexander Lam Clement C.Tham Danny S.Ng Carol Y.Cheung | 2020 | Eye and Vision2020，7，1： | 7 |
| 3 | A review on photo-thermal catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide显示文摘The conversion of carbon dioxide into value-added products is of great industrial and environmental interest. However, as carbon dioxide is relatively stable, the input energy required for this conversion is a significant limiting factor in the system's performance. By utilising energy from the sun, through a range of key routes, this limitation can be overcome. In this review, we present a comprehensive and critical overview of the potential routes to harvest the sun's energy, primarily through solar-thermal technologies and plasmonic resonance effects. Focusing on the localised heating approach, this review shortlists and compares viable catalysts for the photo-thermal catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide.Further, the pathways and potential products of different carbon dioxide conversion routes are outlined with the reverse water gas shift,methanation, and methanol synthesis being of key interest. | 4 | A cross-sectional study on compliance with topical glaucoma medication and its associated socioeconomic burden for a Chinese population显示文摘AIM: To estimate the overall drug compliance for local Chinese glaucoma patients on long-term topical treatment.METHODS: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study.Fifty-seven primary glaucoma patients from the subspecialty clinic of a publicly-funded tertiary care hospital in Hong Kong completed a questionnaire on compliance with topical glaucoma medication,attitude towards glaucoma and therapy and vision related quality of life.Noncompliance was defined as reporting missing more than or equal to 10% of the prescribed topical glaucoma medication during the 2wk immediately prior to the consultation.Relationships between noncompliance and demographics,attitude,disease and treatment status was studied.Cost was estimated with quality of life and direct medical cost involved with noncompliance.Multivariable logistic regression on noncompliance was performed on selected factors.RESULTS: Compliance was calculated as 75%(95% CI: 64%-87%) among 57 subjects(mean age 69 y,female 51%).No statistical significant relationship was established between noncompliance and any single factors or outcomes.Age(P=0.048) and forgetfulness(P=0.064) were found to be marginally significant predictive factors on noncompliance in multivariable logistic regression.Noncompliance might be related(P=0.130) to poorer self-rated vision-associated quality of life.The societal cost of noncompliance was estimated to be over 2510 life-years and US$ 3.7 million territory-wide.CONCLUSION: The compliance of Chinese glaucoma patients in Hong Kong is comparable to other parts in the world,and carries detrimental impacts on individual and societal levels.Age and forgetfulness are two possible independent predictors for noncompliance. | Man-Hin Lui Jason Chun Ho Lam Yi Lee Kwong Tak Siu Wong Pak Long Cheung Sherri Shun Yan Lai Pak Lun Yuen Wai Yiu Lam Ho Yan Chan Yiu Fai Wong Jimmy Shiu Ming Lai Kendrick Co Shih | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017，10，2： | 5 |

| 7 | Differing profiles of people diagnosed with acute and chronic hepatitis B virus infection in British Columbia,Canada显示文摘AIM To describe the characteristics of people diagnosed with acute and chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection in British Columbia(BC).METHODS We used data from the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort(BCHTC),which includes all individuals tested for hepatitis C virus(HCV) or human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) or those diagnosed with HBV or active tuberculosis in BC since 1990.These data were integrated with prescription drug,medical visit,hospitalization and mortality data.HBV cases were classified as acute or chronic according to provincial guidelines.We compared characteristics of individuals by HBV infection group(acute,chronic and negative).Factors associated with acute or chronic HBV infection were assessed with multinomial logistic regression models in comparison to the HBV negative group.RESULTS46498 of the 1058056 eligible BC-HTC participants were diagnosed with HBV infection.4.3% of HBV positive individuals were diagnosed with acute HBV infections while 95.7% had chronic infections.Problematic alcohol use,injection drug use,and HIV or HCV co-infection were more common among individuals diagnosed with acute HBV compared to those with chronic infections and HBV negative individuals.In multivariable multinomial logistic regression models,we observed significant associations between acute or chronic HBV diagnosis and being male,age at HBV diagnosis or birth cohort,South and East Asian ethnicity,HCV or HIV infection,and injection drug use.The odds of acute HBV decreased with increasing age among people who inject drugs,while the opposite was true for chronic HBV.Persons with acute HBV were predominantly White(78%) while those with chronic HBV were mostly East Asian(60%).Relative to Whites,East Asians had 12 times greater odds of being diagnosed with chronic HBV infection.These odds increased with increasing socioeconomic deprivation.CONCLUSION Differences in the profiles of people diagnosed with acute and chronic HBV infection necessitate differentiated screening,prevention,care and treatment programs. | Mawuena Binka Zahid A Butt Stanley Wong Mei Chong Jane A Buxton Nuria Chapinal Amanda Yu Maria Alvarez Maryam Darvishian Jason Wong Gina McGowan Mikhail Torban Mark Gilbert Mark Tyndall Mel Krajden Naveed Z Janjua | 2018 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2018，24，11： | 3 |
