1Effect of Helicobacter pylori on gastric epithelial cells显示文摘The gastrointestinal epithelium has cells with features that make them a powerful line of defense in innate mucosal immunity. Features that allow gastrointestinal epithelial cells to contribute in innate defense include cell barrier integrity, cell turnover, autophagy, and innate immune responses. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a spiral shape gram negative bacterium that selectively colonizes the gastric epithelium of more than half of the world's population. The infection invariably becomes persistent due to highly specialized mechanisms that facilitate H. pylori 's avoidance of this initial line of host defense as well as adaptive immune mechanisms. The host response is thus unsuccessful in clearing the infection and as a result becomes established as a persistent infection promoting chronic inflammation. In some individuals the associated inflammation contributes to ulcerogenesis or neoplasia. H. pylori has an array of different strategies to interact intimately with epithelial cells and manipulate their cellular processes and functions. Among the multiple aspects that H. pylori affects in gastric epithelial cells are their distribution of epithelial junctions, DNA damage, apoptosis, proliferation, stimulation of cytokine production, and cell transformation. Some of these processes are initiated as a result of the activation of signaling mechanisms activated on binding of H. pylori to cell surface receptors or via soluble virulence factors that gain access to the epithelium. The multiple responses by the epithelium to the infection contribute to pathogenesis associated with H. pylori.Shatha Alzahrani Taslima T Lina Jazmin Gonzalez Irina V Pinchuk Ellen J Beswick Victor E Reyes 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,36:15
2Immune evasion strategies used by Helicobacter pylori显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is perhaps the most ubiquitous and successful human pathogen, since it colonizes the stomach of more than half of humankind. Infection with this bacterium is commonly acquired during childhood. Once infected, people carry the bacteria for decades or even for life, if not treated. Persistent infection with this pathogen causes gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and is also strongly associated with the development of gastric cancer. Despite induction of innate and adaptive immune responses in the infected individual, the host is unable to clear the bacteria. One widely accepted hallmark of H. pylori is that it successfully and stealthily evades host defense mechanisms. Though the gastric mucosa is well protected against infection, H. pylori is able to reside under the mucus, attach to gastric epithelial cells and cause persistent infection by evading immune responses mediated by host. In this review, we discuss how H. pylori avoids innate and acquired immune response elements, uses gastric epithelial cells as mediators to manipulate host T cell responses and uses virulence factors to avoid adaptive immune responses by T cells to establish a persistent infection. We also discuss in this review how the genetic diversity of this pathogen helps for its survival.Taslima T Lina Shatha Alzahrani Jazmin Gonzalez Irina V Pinchuk Ellen J Beswick Victor E Reyes 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,36:7
3SARS-CoV-2 cell entry and targeted antiviral development显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is the causative agent of the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which threatens human health and public safety. In the urgent campaign to develop anti-S ARS-CoV-2 therapies, the initial entry step is one of the most appealing targets. In this review,we summarize the current understanding of SARS-CoV-2 cell entry, and the development of targeted antiviral strategies. Moreover,we speculate upon future directions toward nextgeneration of SARS-CoV-2 entry inhibitors during the upcoming post-pandemic era.Zinuo Chen Ruikun Du Jazmin M.Galvan Achi Lijun Rong Qinghua Cui 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,12:3

8A New Foraminiferal Bioindicator for Long-Term Heat Stress on Coral Reefs显示文摘Coral reefs are in terminal decline. For conservation to be effective, naturally depauperate reefs must be distinguished from those recently degraded by humans.Traditional reef monitoring is time consuming and lacks the longevity to make this distinction.Success in using foraminifera as bioindicators for reef health has hitherto levered their response to nutrients.Because ocean heat waves are the dominant driver of coral bleaching and death, there is compelling motivation to develop new foraminiferal bioindicators that inform on temperature stress over meaningful timescales. This study focuses on identifying which foraminifera respond systematically to the temperature stress that kills corals.Statistical models were used to compare endosymbiont-bearing foraminiferal families, collected along a heat-stress gradient spanning the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia,to live coral cover at the same sites. Results indicate that Amphisteginidae foraminifera and coral cover show a significant decline in abundance as heat stress increases along the transect sites.Furthermore, ocean productivity and salinity, both recognized environmental influences on foraminifera, are shown to be subordinate to temperature in their sway of this ecological patterning. These findings indicate the potential for using foraminifera to develop new indices capable of quantifying long-term thermal impacts on reefs.Alexander F.Humphreys Sam J.Purkis Chuyan Wan Matthew Aldrich Sarah Nichols Jazmin Garza 2022Journal of Earth Science2022,33,6:1

15Sociodemographic determinants associated with breastfeeding in term infants with low birth weight in Latin American countries显示文摘BACKGROUND A progressive decrease in exclusive breastfeeding(BF)is observed in Latin America and the Caribbean compared with global results. The possibility of being breastfed and continuing BF for>6 months is lower in low birth weight than in healthy-weight infants.AIM To identify factors associated with BF maintenance and promotion, with particular attention to low-and middle-income countries,by studying geographic, socioeconomic, and individual or neonatal health factors.METHODS A scoping review was conducted in 2018 using the conceptual model of social determinants of health published by the Commission on Equity and Health Inequalities in the United States. The extracted data with common characteristics were synthesized and categorized into two main themes:(1)Sociodemographic factors and proximal determinants involved in the initiation and maintenance of BF in low-birth-weight term infants in Latin America;and(2)individual characteristics related to the self-efficacy capacity for BF maintenance and adherence in low-birth-weight term infants.RESULTS This study identified maternal age, educational level, maternal economic capacity, social stratum, exposure to BF substitutes, access to BF information, and quality of health services as mediators for maintaining BF.CONCLUSION Individual self-efficacy factors that enable BF adherence in at-risk populations should be analyzed for better health outcomes.Carlos Javier Avendaño-Vásquez Magda Liliana Villamizar-Osorio Claudia Jazmin Niño-Peñaranda Judith Medellín-Olaya Nadia Carolina Reina-Gamba 2024World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2024,13,1:0

18TRIM25:A central factor in breast cancer显示文摘TRIM25 is emerging as a central factor in breast cancer due to its regulation and function. In particular,it has been shown that:(1)Estrogens modulate TRIM25 gene expression;(2)TRIM25 has activity as an E3-ligase enzyme for ubiquitin;and(3)TRIM25 is also an E3 ligase for interferon-stimulated gene 15 protein in the ISGylation system.Consequently, the proteome of mammary tissue is affected by TRIM25-associated pathways, involved in tumor development and metastasis. Here,we discuss the findings on the mechanisms involved in regulating TRIM25 expression and its functional relevance in breast cancer progression. These studies suggest that TRIM25 may be a biomarker and a therapeutic target for breast cancer.Angeles C Tecalco-Cruz María Jazmin Abraham-Juárez Helena Solleiro-Villavicencio JosuéOrlando Ramírez-Jarquín 2021World Journal of Clinical Oncology2021,12,8:0
