| 1 | Mechanism for the formation of the January 2013 heavy haze pollution episode over central and eastern China显示文摘In January 2013,a long-lasting episode of severe haze occurred in central and eastern China,and it attracted attention from all sectors of society.The process and evolution of haze pollution episodes were observed by the'Forming Mechanism and Control Strategies of Haze in China'group using an intensive aerosol and trace gases campaign that simultaneously obtained data at 11 ground-based observing sites in the CARE-China network.The characteristics and formation mechanism of haze pollution episodes were discussed.Five haze pollution episodes were identified in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(Jing-Jin-Ji)area;the two most severe episodes occurred during 9–15 January and 25–31 January.During these two haze pollution episodes,the maximum hourly PM2.5mass concentrations in Beijing were 680 and 530μg m 3,respectively.The process and evolution of haze pollution episodes in other major cities in the Jing-Jin-Ji area,such as Shijiazhuang and Tianjin were almost the same as those observed in Beijing.The external cause of the severe haze episodes was the unusual atmospheric circulation,the depression of strong cold air activities and the very unfavorable dispersion due to geographical and meteorological conditions.However,the internal cause was the quick secondary transformation of primary gaseous pollutants to secondary aerosols,which contributed to the'explosive growth'and'sustained growth'of PM2.5.Particularly,the abnormally high amount of nitric oxide(NOx)in the haze episodes,produced by fossil fuel combustion and vehicle emissions,played a direct or indirect role in the quick secondary transformation of coal-burning sulphur dioxide(SO2)to sulphate aerosols.Furthermore,gaseous pollutants were transformed into secondary aerosols through heterogeneous reactions on the surface of fine particles,which can change the particle’s size and chemical composition.Consequently,the proportion of secondary inorganic ions,such as sulphate and nitrate,gradually increased,which enhances particle hygroscopicity and thereby accelerating formation of the haze pollution. | WANG YueSi YAO Li WANG LiLi LIU ZiRui JI DongSheng TANG GuiQian ZHANG JunKe SUN Yang HU Bo XIN JinYuan | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,1: | 189 |

| 6 | Risk factors of infected pancreatic necrosis secondary to severe acute pancreatitis显示文摘BACKGROUND: Severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) remains a clinical challenge with considerable morbidity and mortality.An early identification of infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN), a life-threatening evolution secondary to SAP, is obliged for a more preferable prognosis. Thus, the present study was conducted to identify the risk factors of IPN secondary to SAP. METHODS: The clinical data of patients with SAP were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were sequentially performed to assess the associations between the variables and the development of IPN secondary to SAP. A receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was created for each of the qualified independent risk factors. RESULTS: Of the 115 eligible patients, 39(33.9%) progressed to IPN, and the overall in-hospital mortality was 11.3%(13/115).The early enteral nutrition(EEN)(P=0.0092, OR=0.264), maximum intra-abdominal pressure(IAP)(P=0.0398, OR=1.131)and maximum D-dimer level(P=0.0001, OR=1.006) in the first three consecutive days were independent risk factors associated with IPN secondary to SAP. The area under ROC curve(AUC) was 0.774 for the maximum D-dimer level in the first three consecutive days and the sensitivity was 90% and the specificity was 58% at a cut-off value of 933.5 μg/L; the AUC was 0.831 for the maximum IAP in the first three consecutive days and the sensitivity was 95% and specificity was 58%at a cut-off value of 13.5 mm Hg. | 8 | Current cancer burden in China: epidemiology, etiology, and prevention显示文摘Cancer has become the most common cause of death in China.Owing to rapid economic development,improved livelihood,and shifts in risk factors,cancer epidemiology has experienced substantial changes during the past several decades.In this review,we aim to describe the current cancer epidemiology of the main types of cancer in China,report major risk factors associated with cancer development,and summarize the contributions of the Chinese government to controlling the cancer burden.A total of 4,064,000 new cases were diagnosed in China in 2016.The most frequent types are lung cancer(828,100;20.4%),colorectal cancer(408,000;10.0%),and gastric cancer(396,500;9.8%).Lung(657,000;27.2%),liver(336,400,13.9%),and stomach(288,500;12.0%)cancers are the 3 most deadly cancers in the general population.The 5-year survival rate for cancer has dramatically increased in recent decades.However,liver and particularly pancreatic cancers still have the poorest prognosis.The main modifiable risk factors associated with cancer development include infectious agents,smoking,alcohol consumption,obesity,unhealthful dietary habits,and inadequate physical activity.The Chinese government has made unremitting efforts to decrease the cancer burden,including cancer education and investment in cancer screening programs. | Maomao Cao He Li Dianqin Sun Siyi He Xinxin Yan Fan Yang Shaoli Zhang Changfa Xia Lin Lei Ji Peng Wanqing Chen | 2022 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2022,19,8: | 33 |

| 11 | Efficacy and safety of 0.4 percent sodium hyaluronate for endoscopic submucosal dissection of gastric neoplasms显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sodium hyaluronate solution(SH) in endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) of gastric neoplasms.METHODS:A prospective multicenter randomized,double blind,controlled trial was designed and utilized in this study.A total of 76 patients with 5-20 mm sized gastric neoplasms were enrolled at three academic hospitals in South Korea from June 2011 to October 2011.Patients were randomly assigned to the 0.4% sodium hyaluronate or control groups.All lesions underwent endoscopic ESD.ESD was performed with 0.4%SH and normal saline(NS) solution for submucosal injection.Efficacy was assessed using en bloc resection and the number of additional injections.Secondary evaluation variables were the volume of injection material,steepness of mucosal elevation,bleeding rate,procedural time and operator satisfaction.Finally,the safety was assessed by analyzing adverse events during the study.RESULTS:The usefulness rate in the 0.4%SH group and the controlled group had statistically significant difference under intention to treat(ITT) analysis(90.91% vs 61.11% P = 0.0041).Under per protocol(PP),the usefulness rate is statistically significant different(93.10% vs 61.76%,P = 0.0036).The difference in volume of the solution injected between 0.4%SH group and the controlled group and NS group was also statistically significant under intention to treat and per protocol analysis(ITT:0.03 ± 0.02 mL vs 0.06 ± 0.03 mL,P = 0.0003,PP:0.03 ± 0.02 mL vs 0.06 ± 0.03 mL,P = 0.0004).Satisfaction above the grade good was significantly higher in the SH group under intention to treat and per protocol analysis(ITT:90.91% vs 61.11%,P = 0.0041,PP = 93.11% vs 61.77%,P = 0.0022).Adverse events above grade 3 were not noticed in either group.All adverse events were treated and were judged as not associated with the submucosal injection solutions.CONCLUSION:0.4%SH solution is a safe and effective agent that doesn't cause any significant adverse events and is useful for submucosal injection during ESD. | Young Dae Kim Jun Lee Ju Yeon Cho Seok Won Kim Seong Hwan Kim Young Kwan Cho Jin Seok Jang Ji Sun Han Joo Young Cho | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,20: | 26 |
| 12 | EFFECT OF ASPIRIN PLUS CLOPIDOGREL ON INFLAMMATORY MARKERS IN PATIENTS WITH NON-ST-SEGMENT ELEVATION ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME显示文摘Background Aspirin can inhibit inflammatory reactions and platelet aggregation, but little is known about the effects of the combination of aspirin plus clopidogrel, a new antiplatelet agent, on inflammation. The purpose of this study was to determine whether aspirin plus clopidogrel can further suppress inflammation in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS). Methods One hundred and fifteen patients with NSTEACS were randomized into two groups: group A (aspirin alone, n=58) and group B (aspirin plus clopidogrel, n=57). Patients in group A received a loading dose of 300 mg aspirin, then 100 mg per day. The patients in group B received a loading dose of 300 mg aspirin and 300 mg clopidogrel, then 100 mg aspirin and 75 mg clopidogrel per day. Serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were measured in all patients at baseline prior to any drug treatment after admission, and at 7 and 30 days after beginning drug treatment. Thirty healthy volunteers on no medications were enrolled as controls (group C). Results Baseline levels of hs-CRP and TNF-αin group A and group B were significantly higher than those in group C. Seven days after administration, the levels of hs-CRP in both group A and group B decreased significantly [Group A: (6.15 ± 1.39) mg/L vs (9.18 ± 1.62) mg/L, P <0.01; Group B:(4.99 ± 1.62) mg/L vs (10.29 ± 1.47) mg/L, P<0.01]. Similarly, levels of TNF-αin both groups decreased at 7 days compared to baseline [Group A: (90.99 ± 28.91) pg/ml vs (117.20 ± 37.13) pg/ml, P <0.01; Group B: (74.32± 21.83) pg/ml vs (115.27 ± 32.11) pg/ml, P <0.01]. Thirty days after administration, the levels of hs-CRP in both group A and group B decreased further to (3.49 ± 1.53) mg/L, and (2.40 ± 1.17) mg/L respectively (P <0.01 for both comparisons). Levels of TNF-αin groups A and B also decreased significantly between 7 and 30 days, to 63.28 ± 29.01 pg/ml (group A) and (43.95 ± 17.10) pg/ml (group B; P <0.01 for both comparisons). Significantly lower levels of hs-CRP and TNF-αwere observed in group B compared to Group A at thirty days after initiating drug treatment (P <0.05). Conclusions Aspirin plus clopidogrel treatment reduced levels of serum hs-CRP and TNF-α in patients with NSTEACS significantly more than aspirin alone. | 17 | Characterization of volatile organic compounds in the urban area of Beijing from 2000 to 2007显示文摘Beijing is one of the most polluted cities in the world.In this study,the long-term and continuous measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the urban area of Beijing,specifically at Beijing 325 m Meteorological Tower,were conducted from 2000 to 2007.The annual record of VOC trends exhibited in two different phases was separated in 2003.Records show that VOC concentrations increased from 2000 to 2003 due to the abrupt increase in vehicle number.Contrarily,since 2003,there had been a decrease in VOCs concentrations as the policy on gasoline and air pollution was implemented.Toluene,benzene,and i-pentane are the chemicals that abound in and are directly related to vehicle activity,such as in vehicle exhaust and gasoline evaporation.Furthermore,records indicate that there had been seasonal variation in VOCs levels in that VOCs level in summer is higher than that in winter.As such,temperature is considered to significantly contribute to VOCs in Beijing.Records also show that VOCs level was high in the morning and during rush hours in the evening.In contrast,VOCs level was low during midday due to photochemical destruction with OH radical and dilution effect.In this study,a particular benzene to toluene ratio range (0.4-1.0) was used as the indicator of air propelled by vehicular exhaust.We also applied the correlation coefficients between BTEX and i-pentane to evaluate evaporation influence to ambient BTEX in the Beijing urban area. | Yuesi Wang Xiyan Ren Dongsheng Ji Junqang Zhang Jie Sun Fankun Wu | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,1: | 21 |

| 20 | Aerobic exercise improves gastrointestinal motility in psychiatric inpatients显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the benefit of aerobic exercise on colonic transit time(CTT)for psychiatric inpatients in a closed ward.METHODS:Sixty consecutive adult inpatients of the Somang Hospital Psychiatry Unit(Eumsung-gun,South Korea),without CTT-related diseases or drug therapies,were recruited for study from March to June of 2012.Upon enrollment,the patients were randomly assigned to partake in a 12-wk instructor-led group aerobic exercise program(exercise group;n=30)or to maintain their ordinary daily activities(control group;n=30).The exercise program was structured as 10 min warm-up(stretching),40 min exercise,and 10 min cool-down(stretching)for three days each week.The exercise sessions consisted of walking only in week one and aerobics from weeks two to 12,with increasing intensity(50%heart rate reserve(HRR)for weeks one to four,60%HRR for weeks five to eight,and 70%HRR for weeks nine to 12).CTT was measured before(baseline)and after(week 12)the exercise program,in duplicate(on days four and seven),using abdominal radiography and the multiple radio-opaque marker technique.Changes in the exercising patients’CTT and weight-,cardiovascular-and fitness-related parameters were statistically assessed.RESULTS:The study dropout rate was 30.0%,with 23patients in the exercise group and 19 patients in the control group completing the study.At week 12,the exercise group showed decreases in body weight(mean±SE)baseline:69.4±2.8 vs study-end:67.6±2.7;P<0.635)and body mass index(BMI)(25.2±1.1 vs24.9±0.8;P<0.810),but the extent of change was not significantly different from that experienced by the control group(body weight:68.8±4.0 vs 68.8±3.9;BMI:24.3±1.1 vs 24.4±1.2).However,the exercise group showed significant improvements in leg muscle strength(baseline:41.7±4.3 vs study-end:64.1±5.0;P<0.001),cardio-respiratory endurance(120.5±4.5vs 105.4±2.8;P<0.004),and leg muscle elasticity and power output(21.5±2.6 vs 30.6±2.8;P<0.001).The exercise group showed an exercise-induced reduction in total CTT(baseline:54.2±8.0 vs 30.3±6.1),which was significantly different from that experienced by the control group over the 12-wk period(48.6±9.3vs 48.3±12.3;P=0.027);however,the exercise-induced decreases in CTT involving the three colonic segments examined(right,left and recto-sigmoid)showed no significant differences from the control group.CONCLUSION:A 12-wk aerobic exercise program can benefit psychiatric inpatients by increasing intestinal motility,possibly decreasing risk of metabolic-and cardiovascular-related disease. | Yeon Soo Kim Bong Kil Song Ji Sun Oh Seung Seok Woo | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,30: | 19 |
