1Nestin-positive progenitor cells isolated from human fetal pancreas have phenotypic markers identical to mesenchymal stem cells显示文摘AIM: To isolate nestin-positive progenitor cells from human fetal pancreas and to detect their surface markers and their capability of proliferation and differentiation into pancreatic islet endocrine cells in vitro.METHODS: Islet-like cell clusters (ICCs) were isolated from human fetal pancreas by using collagenase digestion. The free-floating ICCs were handpicked and cultured in a new dish. After the ICCs developed into monolayer epithelium-like cells, they were passaged and induced for differentiation. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunofluorescence stain, fluorescenceactivated cell sorting (FACS) and radioimmunoassay (RIA)were used to detect the expression of cell markers. RESULTS: (1) The monolayer epithelium-like cells had highly proliferative potential and could be passaged more than 16 timesin vitro; (2) RT-PCR analysis and immunofluorescence stain showed that these cells expressed both nestin and ABCG2, two of stem cellmarkers; (3) FACS analysis revealed that CD44, CD90and CD147 were positive, whereas CD34, CD38, CD45, CD71, CD117, CD133 and HLA-DR were negative on the nestin-positive cells; (4) RT-PCR analysis showed that the mRNA expression of insulin, glucagon and pancreaticduodenal homeobox gene-1 was detected, whereas the expression of nestin and neurogenin 3 disappeared in these cells treated with serum-free media supplemented with the cocktail of growth factors. Furthermore, the intracellular insulin content was detected by RIA after the induction culture.CONCLUSION: Nestin-positive cells isolated from human fetal pancreas possess the characteristics of pancreatic progenitor cells since they have highly proliferative potential and the capability of differentiation into insulinproducing cells in vitro. 2A large carbon pool in lake sediments over the arid/semiarid region, NW China显示文摘Carbon burial in lake sediments is an important component of the global carbon cycle. However, little is known about the magnitude of carbon sequestered in lake sediments over the arid/semiarid region of China(ASAC).In this study, we estimate both organic and inorganic carbon burial since *AD 1800 based on nine lakes in ASAC,and discuss the most plausible factors controlling carbon burial. Our estimates show that the annual organic carbon burial rate(OCBR) ranges from 5.3 to 129.8 g cm-2year-1(weighted mean of 49.9 g cm-2year-1), leading to a standing stock of 1.1–24.0 kg cm-2(weighted mean of 8.6 kg cm-2)and a regional sum of *108 Tg organic carbon sequestered since *AD 1800. The annual inorganic carbon burial rate(ICBR) ranges from 11.4 to 124.0 g cm-2year-1(weighted mean of 48.3 g cm-2year-1), which is slightly lower than OCBR. The inorganic carbon standing stock ranges from2.4 to 26.0 kg cm-2(weighted mean of 8.1 kg cm-2),resulting in a sum of *101 Tg regional inorganic carbon burial since *AD 1800, which is slightly lower than the organic carbon sequestration. OCBR in ASAC shows a continuously increasing trend since *AD 1950, which is possibly due to the high autochthonous and allochthonous primary production and subsequently high sedimentation rate in the lakes. This increasing carbon burial is possibly related to both climatic changes and enhanced anthropogenic activities, such as land use change, deforestation, and eutrophication in the lake. 6Late Holocene hydroclimatic variations and possible forcing mechanisms over the eastern Central Asia显示文摘Hydroclimatic variations over the eastern Central Asia are highly sensitive to changes in hemispheric-scale atmospheric circulation systems. To fully understand the long-term variability and relationship between hydroclimate and atmospheric circulation system, we present a high-resolution lascustrine record of late Holocene hydroclimate from Lake Sayram, Central Tianshan Mountains, China, based on the total organic carbon, total nitrogen, and carbonate contents, carbon/nitrogen ratios, and grain size. Our results reveal four periods of substantially increased precipitation at the interval of 4000–3780, 3590–3210, 2800–2160, and 890–280 cal yr BP, and one period of slightly increased precipitation from 1700–1370 cal yr BP. These wetter periods broadly coincide with those identified in other records from the mid-latitude Westerlies-dominated eastern Central Asia, including the northern Tibetan Plateau. As such, a similar hydroclimatic pattern existed over this entire region during the late Holocene. Based on a close similarity of our record with reconstruction of North Atlantic Oscillation indices and solar irradiance, we propose that decreased solar irradiance and southern migration of the entire circum-North Atlantic circulation system, particularly the main pathway of the mid-latitude Westerlies, significantly influenced hydroclimate in eastern Central Asia during the late Holocene. 7BSA-seq-based identification of a major additive plant height QTL with an effect equivalent to that of Semi-dwarf 1 in a large rice F_(2) population显示文摘Bulked-segregant analysis is a time-and cost-saving strategy for identifying major quantitative trait loci(QTL) in a mapping population. Bulked-segregant analysis combined with whole-genome sequencing(BSA-seq) was performed to rapidly identify QTL for heading date, plant height, and panicle length in a large F_(2) population derived from two landraces: Chuan 7(C7) and Haoboka(HBK). Twenty plants with extremely low or high phenotypic values for the target traits were selected from an F_(2) population of 940 plants to construct low-and high-value bulks. Three pairs of bulks for the three traits were constructed, resulting in six DNA pools. BSA-seq revealed nine QTL: four for heading date, three for plant height, and two for panicle length. These QTL were validated in a random F_(2) population or BC_(4)F_(2) populations. The major novel plant height QTL, qPH8, acting additively with an effect equivalent to that of semi-dwarf 1(sd1), is potentially valuable for hybrid rice breeding. qPH8 controls mainly the elongation of basal internodes. 11Fixation of hybrid sterility genes and favorable alleles of key yield-related genes with dominance contribute to the high yield of the Yongyou series of intersubspecific hybrid rice显示文摘In rice,the Yongyou series of Xian-Geng intersubspecific hybrids have excellent production performance,as shown by their extremely high yield.However,the mechanisms underlying the success of these rice hybrids are unclear.In this study,three F2 populations are generated from three Yongyou hybrids to determine the genetic basis of the extremely high yield of intersubspecific hybrids.Genome constitution analysis reveals that the female and male parental lines belong to the Geng and Xian subspecies,respectively,although introgression of 20%of the Xian ancestry and 14%of the Geng ancestry are observed.Twenty-five percent of the hybrid genomes carries homozygous Xian or Geng fragments,which harbors hybrid sterility genes such as Sd,Sc,f5,and q S12 and favorable alleles of key yield-related genes,including NAL1,Ghd7,and Ghd8.None of the parents carries the S5+killer of the S5 killer-protector system.Compatible allele combinations of hybrid sterility genes ensure the fertility of these intersubspecific hybrids and overcome the bottleneck in applying intersubspecific hybrids.Additive effects of favorable alleles of yield-related genes fixed in both parents enhances midparent values.Many QTLs for yield and its key component spikelets per panicle shows dominance and the net positive dominant effects lead to heterosis.These factors result in an extremely high yield of the hybrids.These findings will aid in the development of new intersubspecific rice hybrids with diverse genetic backgrounds.Pengfei Wang Feixiang Qi Honglin Yao Xingbing Xu Wenjun Li Jianghu Meng Qinglu Zhang Weibo Xie Yongzhong Xing 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,5:1

13A multiple-proxy stalagmite record reveals historical deforestation in central Shandong, northern China显示文摘Evaluating anthropogenic impacts on regional vegetation changes during historical time is not only important for a better understanding of the Anthropocene but also valuable in improving the vegetation-climate models.In this study,we analyzed stable isotopes(δ^18O,δ^13C)and trace elements(Mg/Ca,Sr/Ca)of a stalagmite from Huangchao Cave in central Shandong,northern China.230Th and AMS14C dating results indicate the stalagmite deposited during 174BC and AD1810,with a hiatus between AD638 and 1102.Broad similarities of theδ^18O and trace elements in the stalagmite suggest they are reliable precipitation indexes.Theδ^13C of the stalagmite,a proxy of vegetation change,was generally consistent with local precipitation and temperature variations on a centennial-scale before the 15th century.It typically varied from–9.6‰to–6.3‰,indicating climate controlled C3 type vegetation during this period.However,a persistent and marked increasing trend in theδ^13C record was observed since the 15th century,resulting inδ^13C values from–7.7‰to–1.6‰in the next four centuries.This unprecedentedδ^13C change caused by vegetation deterioration cannot be explained by climate change but is fairly consistent with the dramatically increasing population and farmland in Shandong.We suggest that the increasing deforestation and reclamation in central Shandong began to affect vegetation in the mountain region of central Shandong since the 15th century and severely destroyed or even cleared the forest during the 16th–18th century.Liangcheng TAN Wen LIU Tianli WANG Peng CHENG Jingjie ZANG Xiqian WANG Le MA Dong LI Jianghu LAN R.Lawrence EDWARDS Hai CHENG Hai XU Li AI Yongli GAO Yanjun CAI 2020Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,10:1
14The multifractal spectrum of a sea clutter using a random walk model显示文摘The radar echo signal of a sea clutter is nonlinear, nonstationary and time varying. A multifractal measure analysis can describe the local singularity of a physics system. The random walk model of a sea clutter scattering is analysed to disclose the intrinsic physical characteristics and laws of the sea clutter. Stochastic differential equations are given for the physical quality of the sea clutter. A diffusion process model is established using It o formula. The singularity of the random walk model is tested by a multifractal spectroscopy, and the accuracy of this model is proven by the multifractal spectroscopy of a real-life IPIX radar data set. 15Ice-volume and insolation influences on hydroclimate changes in central eastern China during the antepenultimate glacial period显示文摘The rainfall changes in East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)regions on the orbital timescale remain controversial due to the lack of reliable rainfall records.Here,we present new multiproxy records(δ^(18)O,δ^(13)C,Sr/Ca and Mg/Ca)of a230Thdated stalagmite from Hulu Cave in central eastern China.Multiproxy records reconstruct a regional hydroclimate history from 340 to 261 kyr BP(thousand years before present),approximately covering the antepenultimate glacial period.Theδ^(18)O record is dominated by the precessional cycles,suggesting that EASM responds to changes in Northern Hemisphere summer insolation(NHSI)on the orbital timescale.Significant correlations amongst theδ^(13)C,Sr/Ca and Mg/Ca suggest that a common factor,i.e.,the local hydrological cycle,controlled their variability,and their leading principal component can be used as a proxy linked to regional rainfall.This composite record bears a good similarity to those from the Chinese Loess Plateau,showing a gradually decreasing rainfall during the antepenultimate glacial period,consistent with changes in global ice volume.Superimposed on the long-term trend,three relative wetter intervals were responding to the higher NHSI periods,suggesting that EASM rainfall variability was induced by integrated effects of global ice volume and NHSI.The increased ice sheets and lower NHSI resulted in an increased meridional temperature gradient and southward shift of the westerlies,which shortened the duration of Meiyu and midsummer rainfall.The differences between the rainfall record and the stalagmiteδ^(18)O record indicate that the latter represents the overall EASM intensity linked to monsoon circulation,but does not directly reflect the rainfall changes at the cave sites.Quan WANG Shayue YUAN Yijia LIANG Kan ZHAO Qingfeng SHAO Zhenqiu ZHANG Junji ZHU Xinggong KONG Yongjin WANG Jianghu LAN Hai CHENG Chengwei XIA Yi LI 2023Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,1:0
16Nonvolatile resistive memory and synaptic learning using hybrid flexible memristor based on combustion synthesized Mn-ZnO显示文摘Memristors have been seen as promising candidates for next-generation nonvolatile memory and neuromorphic computing.Solution-processed memristors can offer many advantages,such as low-cost fabrication,large-area uniformity,and high versatility.However,the high annealing temperature of the solution process and unsatisfactory performance are impeding the advancement of flexible memristors.In this work,the combustion method was proposed to fabricate the Mn-ZnO-based memristor without a hightemperature process on the flexible substrate.The device demonstrates stable bipolar resistive switching behavior with ultralow switching voltage(-0.6 V/0.71 V),high on/off ratio(>2×10~3),multilevel storage capability,and uniform resistance distribution(σ/μ=18%/16%).The flexible device with a bend radius of 10 mm shows no obvious performance degeneration compared with the device in the flat state.Furthermore,tunable repetitively synaptic weight was achieved by the memristor.Synaptic plasticity functions,such as excitatory postsynaptic current,paired-pulse facilitation,and learning/forgetting behaviors,have been emulated.This work provides a simple and feasible strategy for fabricating the flexible highperformance memristor,with the expectation to facilitate the development of flexible electronics.Qi Xue Tao Hang Jianghu Liang Chun-Chao Chen Yunwen Wu Huiqin Ling Ming Li 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,24:0
17Resolving Mixed Intermediate Phases in Methylammonium-Free Sn-Pb Alloyed Perovskites for High-Performance Solar Cells显示文摘The complete elimination of methylammonium(MA)cations in Sn-Pb composites can extend their light and thermal stabilities.Unfortunately,MA-free Sn-Pb alloyed perovskite thin films suffer from wrinkled surfaces and poor crystallization,due to the coexistence of mixed intermediate phases.Here,we report an additive strategy for finely regulating the impurities in the intermediate phase of Cs_(0.25)FA_(0.75)Pb_(0.6)Sn_(0.4)I_(3)and,thereby,obtaining high-performance solar cells.We introduced d-homoserine lactone hydrochloride(D-HLH)to form hydrogen bonds and strong Pb-O/Sn-O bonds with perovskite precursors,thereby weakening the incomplete complexation effect between polar aprotic solvents(e.g.,DMSO)and organic(FAI)or inorganic(CsI,PbI_(2),and SnI_(2))components,and balancing their nucleation processes.This treatment completely transformed mixed intermediate phases into pure preformed perovskite nuclei prior to thermal anneal-ing.Besides,this D-HLH substantially inhibited the oxidation of Sn^(2+) species.This strategy generated a record efficiency of 21.61%,with a Voc of 0.88 V for an MA-free Sn-Pb device,and an efficiency of 23.82%for its tandem device.The unencapsulated devices displayed impressive thermal stability at 85℃ for 300 h and much improved continuous operation stability at MPP for 120 h.Zhanfei Zhang Jianghu Liang Jianli Wang Yiting Zheng Xueyun Wu Congcong Tian Anxin Sun Zhenhua Chen Chun-Chao Chen 2022Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,10:0
18Variations in monsoon precipitation over southwest China during the last 1500 years and possible driving forces显示文摘Understanding hydroclimatic patterns and their possible driving mechanisms during distinct climate periods over the last 1500 years—such as the Medieval Warm Period(MWP),the Little Ice Age(LIA),and the Current Warm Period—is crucial for predicting future changes to monsoon precipitation in southwest China under global warming scenarios.In this study,based on ^(210)Pb and ^(137)Cs dating of surface sediments and AMS ^(14)C dating of terrestrial plant residues,we establish a robust age model that covers the last~1500 years(AD 439–2012)at Lake Yihai in southwest China.We use analyses of multiple geochemical proxy indices,including loss on ignition at 550℃,total organic carbon,total nitrogen,C/N ratios,and stable carbon isotopes of organic matter to reconstruct changes in summer monsoon precipitation at Lake Yihai during the last~1500 years.The results show that,over southwest China,warm and dry climate conditions prevailed during the MWP(AD 1000–1400)and the past 200 years,whereas conditions during the LIA(AD 1400–1800)were cold and wet.This is consistent with evidence from other geological records over southwest China,such as stalagmite and lake sediment data.Similar hydroclimatic patterns have occurred over the last 1500 years in adjacent tropical/subtropical monsoon regions where the climate is similarly dominated by the Indian summer monsoon(e.g.,South China,the South China Sea,Southeast Asia,Northeast India).We suggest that the meridional migration of the mean position of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone,and El Niño/Southern Oscillation conditions which are linked to tropical Pacific sea surface temperature,are responsible for centennial-scale hydroclimatic patterns over southwest China and adjacent areas during the last 1500 years.Bin LIU Enguo SHENG Keke YU Kang’en ZHOU Jianghu LAN 2022Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,5:0
