1The internalization pathway,metabolic fate and biological effect of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in the macrophage-like RAW264.7 cell显示文摘The potential applications of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) in several nanomedical fields have attracted intense interest based on the cell-nano interaction. However, the mechanisms underlying cell uptake, the intracellular trail, final fate and the biological effects of SPIONs have not yet been clearly elucidated. Here, we showed that multiple endocytic pathways were involved in the internalization process of SPIONs in the RAW264.7 macrophage. The internalized SPIONs were biocompatible and used three different metabolic pathways: The SPIONs were distributed to daughter cells during mitosis; they were degraded in the lysosome and free iron was released into the intracellular iron metabolic pool; and, the intact SPIONs were potentially exocytosed out of the cells. The internalized SPIONs did not induce cell damage but affected iron metabolism, inducing the upregulation of ferritin light chain at both the mRNA and protein levels and ferroportin 1 at the mRNA level. 2Study on the Estimation of Groundwater Withdrawals Based on Groundwater Flow Modeling and Its Application in the North China Plain显示文摘The amount of water withdrawn by wells is one of the quantitative variables that can be applied to estimate groundwater resources and further evaluate the human influence on groundwater systems. The accuracy for the calculation of the amount of water withdrawal significantly influences the regional groundwater resource evaluation and management. However, the decentralized groundwater pumping, inefficient management, measurement errors and uncertainties have resulted in considerable errors in the groundwater withdrawal estimation. In this study, to improve the estimation of the groundwater withdrawal, an innovative approach was proposed using an inversion method based on a regional groundwater flow numerical model, and this method was then applied in the North China Plain. The principle of the method was matching the simulated water levels with the observation ones by adjusting the amount of groundwater withdrawal. In addition, uncertainty analysis of hydraulic conductivity and specific yield for the estimation of the groundwater withdrawal was conducted. By using the proposed inversion method, the estimated annual average groundwater withdrawal was approximately 24.92×109 m3 in the North China Plain from 2002 to 2008. The inversion method also significantly improved the simulation results for both hydrograph and the flow field. 3Characterization of 500 Chinese patients with cervical esophageal cancer by clinicopathological and treatment outcomes显示文摘Objective: There are no comprehensive studies on survival outcomes and optimal treatment protocols for cervical esophageal cancer(CEC), due to its rare clinical prevalence. Our objective was to determine the relationship between pathological characteristics, treatment protocols, and survival outcomes in Chinese CEC patients.Methods: A total of 500 Chinese CEC patients were selected from our 500,000 esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma database(1973–2018). There were two main groups: patients treated with surgery, and patients receiving non-surgical treatments(radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy, and chemotherapy). The Chi-square test and Kaplan–Meier method were used to compare the continuous variables and survival.Results: Among the 500 CEC patients, 278(55.6%) were male, and the median age was 60.9 ± 9.4 years. A total of 496 patients(99.2%) were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. In 171(34.2%) patients who received surgery, 22(12.9%) had undergone laryngectomy. In 322(64.4%) patients who received non-surgical treatments, 245(76.1%) received radiotherapy. Stratified survival analysis showed that only T stage was related with survival outcomes for CEC patients in the surgical group, and the outcomes between laryngectomy and non-laryngectomy patients were similar. It was noteworthy that the 5-year survival rate was similar in CEC patients among the different groups treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiochemotherapy(P = 0.244). Conclusions: The CEC patients had similar survival outcomes after curative esophagectomy and radiotherapy, including those with or without total laryngectomy. 4Parameterization of COSMO-RS model for ionic liquids显示文摘The adjustable parameters in the popular conductor-like screening model for real solvents(COSMO-RS)within the Amsterdam density functional(ADF)framework have been re-optimized to fit for the systems containing ionic liquids(ILs).To get the optimal values of misfit energy constant a^0,hydrogen bond coefficient c_(hb)and effective contact surface area of a segment a_(eff),2283 activity coefficient data points at infinite dilution and 1433 CO_2 solubility data points exhaustively collected from references were used as training set.The average relative deviations(ARDs)of activity coefficients at infinite dilution and CO_2 solubility between experimental data and predicted values are 32.22%and17.61%,respectively,both of which are significantly lower than the original COSMO-RS versions.Predictions for other activity coefficients of solutes in ILs,solubility data of CO_2 in pure ILs and the binary mixtures of ILs at either high or low temperatures,and vapor–liquid equilibrium(VLE)for binary systems involving ILs have also been performed to demonstrate the validity of the parameterization of COSMO-RS model for ILs.The results showed that the predicted results by COSMO-RS model with the new optimized parameters are in much better agreement with experimental data than those by the original versions over a wide temperature and pressure range.The COSMO-RS model for ILs presented in this work improves the prediction accuracy of thermodynamic properties for the systems containing ILs,which is always highly desirable for general chemical engineers.Jingli Han Chengna Dai Gangqiang Yu Zhigang Lei 2018Green Energy & Environment2018,3,3:6
5Quantifying the characteristics of particulate matters captured by urban plants using an automatic approach显示文摘It is widely accepted that urban plant leaves can capture airborne particles. Previous studies on the particle capture capacity of plant leaves have mostly focused on particle mass and/or size distribution. Fewer studies, however, have examined the particle density, and the size and shape characteristics of particles, which may have important implications for evaluating the particle capture efficiency of plants, and identifying the particle sources. In addition, the role of different vegetation types is as yet unclear. Here, we chose three species of different vegetation types, and firstly applied an object-based classification approach to automatically identify the particles from scanning electron microscope(SEM)micrographs. We then quantified the particle capture efficiency, and the major sources of particles were identified. We found(1) Rosa xanthina Lindl(shrub species) had greater retention efficiency than Broussonetia papyrifera(broadleaf species) and Pinus bungeana Zucc.(coniferous species), in terms of particle number and particle area cover.(2) 97.9% of the identified particles had diameter ≤10 μm, and 67.1% of them had diameter ≤2.5 μm. 89.8% of the particles had smooth boundaries, with 23.4% of them being nearly spherical.(3) 32.4%–74.1% of the particles were generated from bare soil and construction activities, and 15.5%–23.0% were mainly from vehicle exhaust and cooking fumes.Jingli Yan Lin Lin Weiqi Zhou Lijian Han Keming Ma 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,1:3
6The roles of active species in photo-decomposition of organic compounds by microwave powered electrodeless discharge lamps显示文摘Knowledge of the effective radiation spectrum irradiating substrates from microwave powered electrodeless discharge lamps(MEDLs), and the active species that directly oxidize substrates in the photolytic process, is fragmentary and unclear. In this work, we conducted a comparative study using MEDLs made with quartz envelopes(MEDL-quartz) and with borosilicate Pyrex envelopes(MEDL-Pyrex) targeting the degradation of Rhodamine B(Rh B)via radical-extinguishing tests. We found that UVC/UVB radiation is essential to generate·OH and H2O2 in the MEDL-quartz system. The degradation of Rh B mostly originates from·OH species, which account for a contribution of 53.8%, while the remaining contribution is attributed to oxidation by H2O2 and direct photolysis. This degradation is influenced by several parameters. Acidic and neutral p Hs, but not extreme alkaline p H, benefit the degradation. To ensure a high intensity of UVC/UVB, the optimum ratio of the MEDL volume to the aqueous solution volume(VL/VS) is 0.4. Concentrations of 0.15–0.20 mmol/L of Rh B are suitable to obtain an effective quantum absorbance in the MEDL-quartz system,showing a high decomposition rate of 5.6 × 10-3(mmol/L)min-1. 10Parallel Simulation of Groundwater Flow in the North China Plain显示文摘Numerical modeling is of crucial importance in understanding the behavior of regional groundwater system. However, the demand on modeling capability is intensive when performing high-resolution simulation over long time span. This paper presents the application of a parallel program to speed up the detailed modeling of the groundwater flow system in the North China Plain. The parallel program is implemented by rebuilding the well-known MODFLOW program on our parallelcomputing framework, which is achieved by designing patch-based parallel data structures and algorithms but maintaining the compute flow and functionalities of MODFLOW. The detailed model with more than one million grids and a decade of time has been solved. The parallel simulation results were examined against the field observed data and these two data are generally in good agreement. For the comparison on solution time, the parallel program running on 32 cores is 6 times faster than the fastest MICCG-based MODFLOW program and 11 times faster than the GMG-based MODFLOW program. 14In vitro genotoxicity evaluation and metabolic study of residual glutaraldehyde in animal-derived biomaterials显示文摘Glutaraldehyde(GA)is an important additive that is mainly used in animal-derived biomaterials to improve their mechanical and antimicrobial capacities.However,GA chemical toxicity and the metabolic mechanism remain relatively unknown.Therefore,residual GA has always been a major health risk consideration for animal-derived medical devices.In this study,extracts of three biopatches were tested via the GA determination test and mouse lymphoma assay(MLA).The results showed that dissolved GA was a potential mutagen,which could induce significant cytotoxic and mutagenic effects in mouse lymphoma cells.These toxic reactions were relieved by the S9 metabolic activation(MA)system.Furthermore,we confirmed that GA concentration decreased and glutaric acid was generated during the catalytic process.We revealed GA could be oxidized via cytochrome P450 which was the main metabolic factor of S9.We found that even though GA was possibly responsible for positive reactions of animal-derived biomaterials’biocompatibility evaluation,it may not represent the real situation occurring in human bodies,owing to the presence of various detoxification mechanisms including the S9 system.Overall,in order to achieve a general balance between risk management and practical application,rational decisions based on comprehensive analyses must be considered.Jianfeng Shi Huan Lian Yuanli Huang Danmei Zhao Han Wang Chunren Wang Jingli Li Linnan Ke 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,6:1

17Correlation between jerky flow and jerky dynamics in a nanoscratch on a metallic glass film显示文摘Chaos has been well understood in dynamic system, however, how the chaotic behavior occur in jerky flow in material, is still not clear, and is lack of specific chaotic attractor. Here the jerky evolution of lateral force and the stair-like fluctuation of lateral displacement are observed for Ni62 Nb38(at.%) metallic glass film during nanoscratch process. This jerky flow is investigated by using the largest Lyapunov exponent, Kolmogorov entropy and fractal dimension, and chaotic behavior of lateral force-time and normal displacement-lateral displacement sequences is verified. In addition to time series analysis, it is found that jerk equation can be used to describe the jerky flow of the metallic-glass film during nanoscratch. More importantly, unambiguous chaotic attractor is presented by jerky dynamics using 'jerk'-singularities, namely the total change rate of lateral force relative to scratch time. 18Long-range Pt-Ni dual sites boost hydrogen evolution through optimizing the adsorption configuration显示文摘Elaborated design of catalytic systems with a specifically tailored site distance to match the intermediates could substantially improve reaction kinetics and boost catalytic activity under unfavorable reaction conditions.Considering the lower energy barriers of water splitting upon the synergy of dual sites,constructing synergistic Pt-M(M:transition metal)dual sites is an effective way to boost Pt with highly catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)performance.An unconventional“Ni(OH)_(2)-coated high-index Pt facets”was constructed to obtain long-range Pt-Ni dual sites,in which Ni composition as a water dissociation synergistic site can protect Pt from electrolyte corrosion and ensure efficient proton donation to Pt sites.The obtained long-range Pt-Ni dual sites present 3.84 mA·cm^(-1) of current density,which is 7.5 times specific activity higher than that of commercial Pt/C towards alkaline HER.The enhanced HER performance is attributed to synergistic catalysis on Pt-Ni dual sites accompanied by unconventional electron coupling.This work illustrates a new strategy to construct the long-range dual sites by unconventional strategy for fundamental electrocatalytic study of alkaline HER.Cong Liu Pengfang Zhang Bing Liu Qian Meng Xuzhao Yang Yakun Li Jingli Han Yao Wang 2024Nano Research2024,17,5:0
19Estimation of chlorophyll content in pepper leaves using spectral transmittance red-edge parameters显示文摘The objective of this work was to monitor the growth status of pepper and provide precise guidance on fertilization through non-destructive detection methods for chlorophyll content based on spectral transmittance.The analysis of the narrower red-edge spectral region(680-760 nm)reduced the requirements for light sources and light detection sensors,and provided a simpler and more accurate method of data acquisition for the process of developing instruments for estimating chlorophyll content in leaves.The red-edge region of spectral transmittance was demonstrated to be closely related to chlorophyll content.Regression models for estimating chlorophyll content with seven different methods were developed using the four red-edge parameters extracted from the red-edge region.The problems of multicollinearity of red-edge parameters and errors in model coefficients were solved by the ridge regression method in the process of building a multivariate regression model.The results indicated that the ridge regression method reduces the errors of the model coefficients and constant terms while improving the detection accuracy,thus the ridge regression model could estimate the leaf chlorophyll content more accurately and repeatedly.Shuai Huang You Wu Qinglan Wang Jingli Liu Qingyan Han Jianfeng Wang 2022International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2022,15,5:0
20PuHox52 promotes coordinated uptake of nitrate,phosphate, and iron under nitrogen deficiency in Populus ussuriensis显示文摘It is of great importance to better understand how trees regulate nitrogen(N) uptake under N deficiency conditions which severely challenge afforestation practices, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms have not been well elucidated. Here,we functionally characterized PuHox52, a Populus ussuriensis HD-ZIP transcription factor, whose overexpression greatly enhanced nutrient uptake and plant growth under N deficiency. We first conducted an RNA sequencing experiment to obtain root transcriptome using PuHox52-overexpression lines of P. ussuriensis under low N treatment. We then performed multiple genetic and phenotypic analyses to identify key target genes of PuHox52 and validated how they acted against N deficiency under PuHox52 regulation.PuHox52 was specifically induced in roots by N deficiency, and overexpression of PuHox52promoted N uptake, plant growth, and root development. We demonstrated that several nitrate-responsive genes(PuNRT1.1, PuNRT2.4,PuCLC-b, PuNIA2, PuNIR1, and PuNLP1),phosphate-responsive genes(PuPHL1A and PuPHL1B), and an iron transporter gene(PuIRT1) were substantiated to be direct targets of PuHox52. Among them, PuNRT1.1, PuPHL1A/B, and PuIRT1 were upregulated to relatively higher levels during PuHox52-mediated responses against N deficiency in PuHox52-overexpression lines compared to WT.
