Potential risks and challenges of climate change in the arid region of northwestern China显示文摘In the arid region of northwestern China(ARNC),water resources are the most critical factor restricting socioeconomic development and influencing the stability of the area’s ecological systems. The region’s complex water system and unique hydrological cycle show distinctive characteristics. Moreover, the intensified hydrological cycle and extreme climatic and hydrological events resulting from global warming have led to increased uncertainty around water resources as well as heightened conflict between water supply and water demand. All of these factors are exerting growing pressures on the socioeconomic development and vulnerable ecological environment in the region. This research evaluates the impacts of climate change on water resources, hydrological processes, agricultural system, and desert ecosystems in the ARNC,and addresses some associated risks and challenges specific to this area. The temperature is rising at a rate of 0.31C per decade during 1961–2017 and hydrological processes are being significantly influenced by changes in glaciers, snow cover, and precipitation form, especially in the rivers recharged primarily by melt water.Ecosystems are also largely influenced by climate change, with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)of natural vegetation exhibited an increasing trend prior to 1998,and then reversed in Xinjiang while the Hexi Corridor of Gansu showed the opposite trends.Furthermore, the desert-oasis transition zone showed a reduction in area due to the warming trend and the recent rapid expansion of irrigated area. Both the warming and intensified drought are threatening agriculture security. The present study could shed light on sustainable development in this region under climate change and provides scientific basis to the construction of the“Silk Road Economic Belt”. | Yaning Chen Xueqi Zhang Gonghuan Fang Zhi Li Fei Wang Jingxiu Qin Fan Sun | 2020 | Regional Sustainability2020,1,1: | 6
Solar activity studies:From a magnetohydrodynamics description to a plasma perspective显示文摘Solar activity,in which there is an explosive release of magnetic energy in the solar atmosphere,is one of the most spectacular manifestations of space plasma activity.Non-potential,free magnetic energy is accumulated by the interaction between plasma and magnetic fields in the photosphere and sub-photospheric layer. In the photosphere and lower solar atmosphere, plasma is only partially ionized and there is three-species(or three-fluid)plasma.Cowling conductivity should therefore be considered in explaining solar observations. On the other hand, the explosive release of magnetic energy is believed to be caused by magnetic reconnection in the corona, where plasma is fully ionized and essentially collisionless. However, for collisionless plasma,we seem to have no precise quantitative description or formulation of its conductivity. To physically understand magnetic reconnection in collisionless plasma is an important task in making further progress in solar activity studies. This article discusses the plasma perspective of solar activity studies. The discussion begins with solar observations, and then,an analysis of the plasma problems that we face and need to better understand. | WANG JingXiu | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,12: | 5
On the possibility of predicting flare index and CME velocity using vector magnetograms显示文摘In this paper,106 active regions(ARs)in the visible solar hemisphere in solar cycle 24 whose maximum sunspot groups’areas were larger than 400μh were selected. The association of their flare index(Iflare),largest flare magnitude(Mflare),and fastest coronal mass ejection(CME)velocity(VCME)with the vector magnetic field parameters were examined, and attempts were made to predict Iflare,Mflare, and VCME using the vector magnetograms.Iflare and Mflare were found to have a good correlation with the total photospheric free magnetic energy density(Efree),the length of the magnetic neutral line with a steep horizontal magnetic gradient(LNL),and the area with strong magnetic shear(Aψ).Iflare and Mflare were also found to have a best correlation with Efree. However,VCME displayed a moderate correlation with these three magnetic field parameters with a best correlation with Aψ.Thus,Efree and Aψappear to be the best parameters that can be used to predict Iflare(Mflare)and VCME,respectively.Hence, the multiple linear regression fit is proposed more suitable to predict Iflare and Mflare because of the stronger forecasts obtained than those by the linear fit with one magnetic field parameter for Iflare and Mflare. However, the VCME forecasts are better obtained through the linear fit with Aψ.The majority of the ARs without any CMEs never produced any flare larger than X1.0 while having a relatively lower Efree, shorter LNL,and smaller Aψ.This suggests that the larger the largest flare in an AR is,the faster the fastest CME produced by the AR will be. | AnQin Chen JingXiu Wang | 2020 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,6: | 5
Cluster of solar active regions and onset of coronal mass ejections显示文摘round-the-clock solar observations with full-disk coverage of vector magnetograms and multi-wavelength images demonstrate that solar active regions(ARs) are ultimately connected with magnetic field. Often two or more ARs are clustered, creating a favorable magnetic environment for the onset of coronal mass ejections(CMEs). In this work, we describe a new type of magnetic complex: cluster of solar ARs. An AR cluster is referred to as the close connection of two or more ARs which are located in nearly the same latitude and a narrow span of longitude. We illustrate three examples of AR clusters, each of which has two ARs connected and formed a common dome of magnetic flux system. They are clusters of NOAA(i.e., National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) ARs 11226 & 11227, 11429 & 11430, and 11525 & 11524. In these AR clusters, CME initiations were often tied to the instability of the magnetic structures connecting two partner ARs, in the form of inter-connecting loops and/or channeling filaments between the two ARs. We show the evidence that, at least, some of the flare/CMEs in an AR cluster are not a phenomenon of a single AR, but the result of magnetic interaction in the whole AR cluster. The observations shed new light on understanding the mechanism(s) of solar activity. Instead of the simple bipolar topology as suggested by the so-called standard flare model, a multi-bipolar magnetic topology is more common to host the violent solar activity in solar atmosphere. | WANG JingXiu ZHANG YuZong HE Han CHEN AnQin JIN ChunLan ZHOU GuiPing | 2015 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2015,58,9: | 4
Concept of the solar ring mission:An overview显示文摘The concept of the Solar Ring mission was gradually formed from L5/L4 mission concept, and the proposal of its pre-phase study was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in November 2018 and then by the Strategic Priority Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences in space sciences in May 2019. Solar Ring mission will be the first attempt to routinely monitor and study the Sun and inner heliosphere from a full 360-degree perspective in the ecliptic plane. The current preliminary design of the Solar Ring mission is to deploy six spacecraft, grouped in three pairs, on a sub-AU orbit around the Sun. The two spacecraft in each group are separated by about 30?and every two groups by about 120?. This configuration with necessary science payloads will allow us to establish three unprecedented capabilities:(1) determine the photospheric vector magnetic field with unambiguity,(2) provide 360-degree maps of the Sun and the inner heliosphere routinely, and(3) resolve the solar wind structures at multiple scales and multiple longitudes. With these capabilities, the Solar Ring mission aims to address the origin of solar cycle, the origin of solar eruptions, the origin of solar wind structures and the origin of severe space weather events. The successful accomplishment of the mission will advance our understanding of the star and the space environment that hold our life and enhance our capability of expanding the next new territory of human. | WANG YuMing JI HaiSheng WANG YaMin XIA LiDong SHEN ChengLong GUO JingNan ZHANG QuanHao HUANG ZhengHua LIU Kai LI XiaoLei LIU Rui WANG JingXiu WANG Shui | 2020 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,9: | 4
Recent studies in satellite observations of three-dimensional magnetic reconnection显示文摘Magnetic reconnection is a main process converting the magnetic energy into thermal and kinetic energy in plasmas. It is one of the fundamental problems of crucial importance not only to space plasmas physics and space weather studies, such as the solar flare, coronal mass ejections and magnetospheric substorms, but also to the stability analysis in magnetically confined fusion. In general, except for cases with periodical boundary conditions,three-dimensional(3D) magnetic re-connection occurs on magnetic separatrices generated by magnetic nulls. Here we briefly introduce/review the theories and some recent satellite observations of 3D magnetic reconnection. Topics to be further studied are also discussed. | XIAO ChiJie WANG XiaoGang PU ZuYin MA ZhiWei ZHAO Hui ZHOU GuiPing WANG JingXiu LIU ZhenXing | 2007 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2007,50,3: | 4
Uncertainty assessment of potential evapotranspiration in arid areas, as estimated by the Penman-Monteith method显示文摘The Penman-Monteith(PM)method is the most widely used technique to estimate potential worldwide evapotranspiration. However, current research shows that there may be significant errors in the application of this method in arid areas, although questions remain as to the degree of this estimation error and how different surface conditions may affect the estimation error. To address these issues,we evaluated the uncertainty of the PM method under different underlying conditions in an arid area of Northwest China by analyzing data from 84 meteorological stations and various Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)products, including land surface temperature and surface albedo.First,we found that when the PM method used air temperature to calculate the slope of the saturation vapor pressure curve,it significantly overestimated the potential evapotranspiration;the mean annual and July–August overestimation was 83.9 and 36.7 mm,respectively.Second, the PM method usually set the surface albedo to a fixed value, which led to the potential evapotranspiration being underestimated;the mean annual underestimation was 27.5 mm,while the overestimation for July to August was 5.3 mm.Third, the PM method significantly overestimated the potential evapotranspiration in the arid area. This difference in estimation was closely related to the underlying surface conditions. For the entire arid zone, the PM method overestimated the potential evapotranspiration by 33.7 mm per year, with an overestimation of 29.0 mm from July to August. The most significant overestimation was evident in the mountainous and plain nonvegetation areas,in which the annual mean overestimation reached 5%and 10%,respectively;during July, there was an estimation of 10%and 20%,respectively.Although the annual evapotranspiration of the plains with better vegetation coverage was slightly underestimated, overestimation still occurred in July and August, with a mean overestimation of approximately 5%.In order to estimate potential evapotranspiration in the arid zone,it is important that we identify a reasonable parameter with which to calibrate the PM formula, such as the slope of the saturation vapor pressure curve, and the surface albedo. We recommend that some parameters must be corrected when using PM in order to estimate potential evapotranspiration in arid regions. | HUA Ding HAO Xingming ZHANG Ying QIN Jingxiu | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,1: | 4
WORST SUBCARRIER AVOIDING WATER-FILLING SUBCARRIER ALLOCATION SCHEME FOR OFDM-BASED CRN显示文摘Efficient and reliable subcarrier power joint allocation is served as a promising problem in cognitive OFDM-based Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN). This paper focuses on optimal subcarrier allocation for OFDM-based CRN. We mainly propose subcarrier allocation scheme denoted as Worst Subcarrier Avoiding Water-filling (WSAW), which is based on Rate Adaptive (RA) criterion and three constraints are considered in CRN. The algorithm divides the assignment procedure into two phases. The first phase is an initial subcarrier allocation based on the idea of avoiding selecting the worst subcarrier in order to maximize the transmission rate; while the second phase is an iterative adjustment process which is realized by swapping pairs of subcarriers between arbitrary users. The proposed scheme could assign subcarriers in accordance with channel coherence time. Hence, real time subcarrier allocation could be implemented. Simulation results show that, comparing with the similar existing algorithms, the proposed scheme could achieve larger capacity and a near-optimal BER performance. | Zhang Jianwu Chi Jingxiu Xu Xiaorong | 2012 | Journal of Electronics(China)2012,29,3: | 3

Recent advances in solar storm studies in China显示文摘'Solar storm' has been commonly accepted by academic community and the public as a very popular scientific term. It is avivid description of violent ejections of a huge amount of magnetized plasma from the Sun as strong flare/CMEs, which sweepover into interplanetary space, develop, and affect our space environment. The solar storm could bring us disastrous spaceweather, destroy crucial technology, and cause a large-scale blackout. It is one of the natural disasters faced by modern humanbeings. Here we first briefly summarize the observational features of solar storms and introduce some key issues, and then wefocus on major advances in observational studies. We mainly introduce the efforts made by the Chinese scientists and comment on the challenges and opportunities that they are facing. In this era when scientific breakthroughs in solar storm studiescrucially depend on space-borne devices and large-aperture ground-based telescopes, the Chinese solar research communityneeds to develop its own major observational facilities and improve space weather forecasting abilities. | WANG JingXiu JI HaiSheng | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,7: | 2
A critical review of ferritin as a drug nanocarrier:Structure, properties, comparative advantages and challenges显示文摘Ferritin stores and releases iron ions in mammals. It is globally important as a drug nanocarrier. This is because of its unique hollow-spherical structure, desirable stability and biological properties.Novel drug-loading approaches plus various functionalization approaches have been developed to improve ferritin in response to differing demands in disease treatments. Here,we critically review ferritin drug delivery and evaluate its diverse drug-loading and functionalization approaches,we:(1)Introduce basic structural and property information related to ferritin as a drug nanocarrier;(2)Contrast in detail the different means to load drugs and the selection of drug loading means;(3)Discuss multiple ferritin functionalization approaches, together with related advantages and potential risks;and,(4)Compare ferritin with alternative,commonly-used drug nanocarriers. We conclude that despite that no drugs based on ferritin are commercially available, the market potential for it is significant, and evaluate future research directions.Findings from this work will be of immediate benefit and interest to a wide range of researchers and manufacturers for drug delivery using ferritin. | Shuang Yin Kenneth Davey Sheng Dai Yongdong Liu Jingxiu Bi | 2022 | Particuology2022,20,5: | 2
A Novel Sr_2CuInO_3S p-type semiconductor photocatalyst for hydrogen production under visible light irradiation显示文摘A novel Sr2CuInO3 S oxysulfide p-type semiconductor photocatalyst has been prepared by solid state reaction method and it exhibits intriguing visible light absorption properties with a bandgap of 2.3 eV. The p-type semiconductor character of the synthesized Sr2CuInO3 S was confirmed by Hall efficient measurement and Mott-Schottky plot analysis. First-principles density functional theory calculations(DFT) and electrochemical measurements were performed to elucidate the electronic structure and the energy band locations. It was found that the as-synthesized Sr2CuInO3 S photocatalyst has appreciate conduction and valence band positions for hydrogen and oxygen evolution, respectively. Photocatalytic hydrogen production experiments under a visible light irradiation(λ>420 nm) were carried out by loading different metal and metal-like cocatalysts on Sr2CuInO3 S and Rh was found to be the best one among the tested ones. | Yushuai Jia Jingxiu Yang Dan Zhao Hongxian Han Can Li | 2014 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2014,23,4: | 2
Systematic variation of the sodium/sulfur promoter content on carbon-supported iron catalysts for the Fischer–Tropsch to olefins reaction显示文摘The Fischer–Tropsch to olefins(FTO) process is a method for the direct conversion of synthesis gas to lower C_2–C_4olefins. Carbon-supported iron carbide nanoparticles are attractive catalysts for this reaction. The catalytic activity can be improved and undesired formation of alkanes can be suppressed by the addition of sodium and sulfur as promoters but the influence of their content and ratio remains poorly understood and the promoted catalysts often suffer from rapid deactivation due to particle growth. A series of carbon black-supported iron catalysts with similar iron content and nominal sodium/sulfur loadings of 1–30/0.5–5 wt% with respect to iron are prepared and characterized under FTO conditions at 1and 10 bar syngas pressure to illuminate the influence of the promoter level on the catalytic properties.Iron particles and promoters undergo significant reorganization during FTO operation under industrially relevant conditions. Low sodium content(1–3 wt%) leads to a delay in iron carbide formation. Sodium contents of 15–30 wt% lead to rapid loss of catalytic activity due to the covering of the iron surface with promoters during particle growth under FTO operation. Higher activity and slower loss of activity are observed at low promoter contents(1–3 wt% sodium and 0.5–1 wt% sulfur) but a minimum amount of alkali is required to effectively suppress methane and C_2–C_4paraffin formation. A reference catalyst support(carbide-derived carbon aerogel) shows that the optimum promoter level depends on iron particle size and support pore structure. | Martin Oschatz Nynke Krans Jingxiu Xie Krijn P.de Jong | 2016 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2016,25,6: | 2

Magnetohydrodynamic process in solar activity显示文摘Magnetohydrodynamics is one of the major disciplines in solar physics.Vigorous magnetohydrodynamic process is taking place in the solar convection zone and atmosphere. It controls the generating and structuring of the solar magnetic fields, causes the accumulation of magnetic non-potential energy in the solar atmosphere and triggers the explosive magnetic energy release, manifested as violent solar flares and coronal mass ejections. Nowadays detailed observations in solar astrophysics from space and on the ground urge a great need for the studies of magnetohydrodynamics and plasma physics to achieve better understanding of the mechanism or mechanisms of solar activity. On the other hand, the spectacular solar activity always serves as a great laboratory of magnetohydrodynamics. In this article, we reviewed a few key unresolved problems in solar activity studies and discussed the relevant issues in solar magnetohydrodynamics. | Jingxiu Wang Jie Jiang | 2014 | Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2014,4,5: | 1

A SPARSITY AND COMPRESSION RATIO JOINT ADJUSTMENT METHOD FOR COLLABORATIVE SPECTRUM SENSING显示文摘Spectrum sensing is the fundamental task for Cognitive Radio (CR). To overcome the challenge of high sampling rate in traditional spectral estimation methods, Compressed Sensing (CS) theory is developed. A sparsity and compression ratio joint adjustment algorithm for compressed spectrum sensing in CR network is investigated, with the hypothesis that the sparsity level is unknown as priori knowledge at CR terminals. As perfect spectrum reconstruction is not necessarily required during spectrum detection process, the proposed algorithm only performs a rough estimate of sparsity level. Meanwhile, in order to further reduce the sensing measurement, different compression ratios for CR terminals with varying Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) are considered. The proposed algorithm, which optimizes the compression ratio as well as the estimated sparsity level, can greatly reduce the sensing measurement without degrading the detection performance. It also requires less steps of iteration for convergence. Corroborating simulation results are presented to testify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for collaborative spectrum sensing. | Chi Jingxiu Zhang Jianwu Xu Xiaorong | 2012 | Journal of Electronics(China)2012,29,6: | 1
