Insulin sources and types: a review of insulin in terms of its mode on diabetes mellitus显示文摘Insulin is involved in regulation of glucose utilization in the body. Inability of the body to synthesize insulin or human cells resistance to insulin leads to a condition called Diabetes mellitus which is characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia. There are two types of diabetes; type 1 and type 2. Exogenous supply of insulin is needed consistently for type 1diabetes treatment and type 2 diabetes also needs to be cured by the exogenous supply of insulin in advance stages of the disease. These sources have been proved very useful to meet the needs of the patients. However, these insulin types are expensive for the large population of patients in the developing countries. Furthermore, the incidence of diabetes is advancing at an alarming rate. Hence production systems with even higher capabilities of production are desired. Therefore, currently plants are being investigated as alternative production systems. Based on the mode of action of insulin various formulations of insulin have been developed that have different onset of action, peak effect and duration of action according to the needs of the patients. | Kafeel Ahmad | 2014 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2014,34,2: | 8
Synergistic antibacterial effect of honey and Herba Ocimi Basilici against some bacterial pathogens显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the combination of different honey brands and methanolic fraction of Herba Ocimi Basilici using agar well diffusion assay. METHODS: The antibacterial activity was determined against thirteen pathogenic bacterial clinical isolates including six gram negative(Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimirium, Xanthomonas campestris) and six gram positive strains(Enterococcus faecalis faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens type C, Clostridium perfringens type D, Clostridium chauvoei). Agar well diffusion method was used while zones of inhibition were measured with vernier scale. RESULTS: At higher concentration, all the honey brands showed good to significant activity. The highest activity was observed for Hamdard brand honey(27.60±0.40) against Enterococcus faecalis. CONCLUSION: These results revealed that combinations of plant extracts of Herba Ocimi Basilici with honey can be used for the development of potent and novel antibacterial agents. | Ali Talha Khalil Imran Khan Kafeel Ahmad Yusra Ali Khan Momin Khan Muhammad Jaseem Khan | 2013 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,6: | 4

A Review on Primary and Secondary Controls of Inverter-interfaced Microgrid显示文摘The demand of electricity and environmental issues associated with conventional power generation plants are increasing significantly.Modern technology has transformed the conventional power system through the integration of distributed generation(DG).With the help of modern power electronic technology, the conventional power system is able to support the integration of DGs based on renewable energy sources(RESs).The systematic combination of DGs with energy storage system forms a microgrid(MG),which can operate in islanded mode or grid-connected mode. The intermittent nature of RES and varying load pose substantial obstacles such as voltage and frequency instability, and the unreliability of RES.Unequal feeder impedances and non-linear loads are considered as present challenges in MG control.Hierarchical control has been useful in undertaking solutions to these issues. This paper covers the deep insight of different control methods applied at the primary and secondary control levels in hierarchical control. In primary control, the classification based on droop and non-droop controls is discussed. The virtual synchronization machine(VSM)based control method is reviewed.Voltage and frequency restoration control and economical operations at decentralized and centralized secondary control are analyzed in detail.Based on the existing literature, critical discussion on MG control and future trends are also presented to provide future research perspectives. | Kafeel Ahmed Mehdi Seyedmahmoudian Saad Mekhilef N.M.Mubarak Alex Stojcevski | 2021 | Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2021,9,5: | 2

Antifungal, phytotoxic and hemagglutination activity of methanolic extracts of Ocimum basilicum显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To report some of the pharmacological features of the medicinal plant Ocimum basilicum.METHODS: In the current studies, Antifungal activity of crude methanolic fraction of Ocimum basilicum was determined against eight pathogenic fungal strains using tube dilution assay. The methanolic fraction was also investigated for phytotoxic and hemagglutination activity.RESULTS: Of the eight strains investigated only Candida albicans and Curvilaria lunata were found to be least affected by plant extract while the rest were significantly inhibited. Moderate phytotoxic activity was observed against lemna minor. Hemagglutination activity showed absence of phytolectins and hence no agglutination of erythrocytes.CONCLUSION: The crude extract of Ocimum basilicum has significant properties against fungi and phytotoxic substances. | Kafeel Ahmad Ali talha Khalil Yusra Ramla Somayya | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,6: | 0

No hemagglutination activity was observed. Both the ethanolic and aqueous extracts showed dose-dependent phytotoxic activity toward Lemna minor.CONCLUSION: The crude ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Seriphidium kurramense possess good antimicrobial and phytotoxic activities, but no hemagglutination activity. | Kafeel Ahmad Amjad Ali Waqar Ahmed Afridi Ramla Somayya Muhammad Jawad Ullah | 2018 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2018,38,3: | 0 |
Isolation of DNA from Saliva and Cheek Cells Using Household Chemicals显示文摘Saliva is a feasible specimen used in sample collection for research purposes. It is reported that saliva typically contains^430,000 epithelial cells per mL.There are various cost-effective methods and commercial kits available which are used to extract DNA from saliva. However, this study aims to explore a simple,time-saving and cheap method of DNA extraction using daily life household chemicals without the help of any electronic equipment. This protocol utilizes pineapple juice which contains bromelain enzyme as a proteolytic agent and dishwashing liquid as a detergent to rupture the cell membrane and remove the contamination. It takes approximately 10-15 min for the completion of extraction procedure. Results have indicated the good quality of DNA by gel electrophoresis and good yield with purity of 1.7-1.8 optical density. Thus, this method serves as a simple,convenient,easy-to-handle,time-saving,cheap and less laborious way for the extraction of DNA in daily routine practices with a good precision of quality and quantity that could be used for diagnostic purposes. | Sanober Kafeel | 2020 | Journal of Life Sciences2020,14,1: | 0
