3Therapeutic potential of natural compounds from Chinese medicine in acute and subacute phases of ischemic stroke显示文摘Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in adults worldwide,resulting in huge social and financial burdens.Extracts from herbs,especially those used in Chinese medicine,have emerged as new pharmaceuticals for stroke treatment.Here we review the evidence from preclinical studies investigating neuroprotective properties of Chinese medicinal compounds through their application in acute and subacute phases of ischemic stroke,and highlight potential mechanisms underlying their therapeutic effects.It is noteworthy that many herbal compounds have been shown to target multiple mechanisms and in combinations may exert synergistic effects on signaling pathways,thereby attenuating multiple aspects of ischemic pathology.We conclude the paper with a general discussion of the prospects for novel natural compound-based regimens against stroke.Bei Zhang Kathryn ESaatman Lei Chen 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,3:14
4Recent developments of large diameter X80 UOE line pipes显示文摘High-strength pipeline steel and large diameter line pipes are often used to increase the capacity of transportation and reduce the cost associated with the construction and operation of long-distance gas pipeline projects. China's initiatives to construct long-distance natural gas pipelines has brought in new opportunities for the development of X80 line pipes. Baosteel has designed the optimum chemical composition of X80 with high niobium and low molybdenum content. In addition,a welding experimental platform and a finite element model(FEM) have supported the development of X80 UOE pipes in an efficient and economical way. The application and recent development of X80 UOE pipes were introduced in this paper. To comply with the requirements of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project(2ndWEPP),X80 pipeline steel with low carbon bainite microstructure was developed by utilizing the optimized composition and TMCP process. The matching welding material,welding procedure and UOE forming processes for 1219mm outside diameter X80 UOE pipes were also developed. More than 340000 t of X80 UOE pipes were produced and applied in the 2ndWEPP. Furthermore,to meet the prospective demand for long-distance gas pipelines with an annual transportation capacity of over 40 billion m3,larger size X80UOE pipes with 1 422 mm OD × 30. 8 mm WT were trial produced recently. DWTT performance,the main technical challenge for heavier wall pipes,was improved by using optimized microstructural design. 5APOBEC:From mutator to editor显示文摘APOBECs(apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide-like) are a family of cytidine deaminases that prefer single-stranded nucleic acids as substrates. Besides their physiological functions,APOBEC family members have been found to cause hypermutations of cancer genomes, which could be correlated with cancer development and poor prognosis. Recently, APOBEC family members have been combined with the versatile CRISPR/Cas9 system to perform targeted base editing or induce hypermutagenesis. This combination improved the CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing at single-base precision, greatly enhancing its usefulness. Here, we review the physiological functions and structural characteristics of APOBEC family members and their roles as endogenous mutators that contribute to hypermutations during carcinogenesis. 6Regulation of non-classical immune parameters in immune thrombocytopenic purpura mice by a spleen-invigorating,qi-replenishing and blood-containing formula显示文摘Objective:This study investigated the regulatory effect of non-classical immune parameters on immune thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP)mice by a spleen-invigorating,qi-replenishing and blood-containing formula(SQBF).Method:A total of 80 BALB/c mice were randomly divided into four equal groups(20 mice each):control group,model group,prednisone group and spleen-invigorating,qi-replenishing and blood-containing(SQBF)group.Mice in the model group,prednisone group,and SQBF group were administered anti-platelet serum to induce ITP.The dynamic variations of platelet counts in ITP mice were measured with an automatic blood analyzer before modeling and 48 h,and 8,12 and 15 days following APS injection.Levels of b-endorphin(b-EP),vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)and salivary IgA(SIgA)were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)on 15th day of experiment.Results:SQBF enhanced peripheral blood platelet counts in ITP mice similar to that of prednisone,and both groups showed a statistically significant response compared with the model group(P<.01).The SQBF significantly decreased b-EP levels compared with the model and prednisone intervention groups(P<.05),significantly increased the levels of VIP and SIgA in ITP mice compared with the model group(P<.05)and had significant protective effects on the thymus of ITP mice compared with the model group(P<.01).Conclusions:The SQBF had a similar effect to prednisone with regards to enhancing peripheral blood platelet counts in ITP mice.Furthermore,it decreased b-EP levels and increased VIP and SIgA,and protected the thymus.This shows that,on base of the brain-gut axis functions,some non-classical immune vascular active factors or neurotransmitters are also involved in immune responses,and also have relationship with the onset of ITP and bleeding and/or hemostasis.It needs further study to determine whether a change in these active factors is related to immediate hemostasis.Tiantian Li Hao He Li Hou Yue Xu Xiaoyong Wu Yanping Sun Lei Zheng Zhixiong Chen Xinyi Chen Bei Qin 2015Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2015,2,2:6
7A noise removal algorithm for DR Images based on adaptive estimation of threshold显示文摘When DR (Digital Radiography) images are filtered, it is necessary to preserve the edges and key details. But the existing methods may inevitably take fine details mistaken for noise to remove. In order to solve the problem an improved anisotropic diffusion filtering model is proposed. Firstly, a novel diffusion function is introduced based on Perona and Malik model, which well overcomes the high rate of convergence. Secondly, the gradient threshold is modified to an adaptive estimation function, so it is better at adaptive threshold regulations according to the pixels and iteration times. Finally, the edges are extracted from the restored images and the results are evaluated quantificationally. 9Micronodular thymic tumor with lymphoid stroma: A case report and review of the literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Micronodular thymic tumors with lymphoid stroma include micronodular thymoma with lymphoid stroma(MNT)and micronodular thymic carcinoma with lymphoid hyperplasia(MNC),whose micromorphological features are lymphoid stromal hyperplasia and nodular arrangement of tumor epithelial cells.This type of tumor is rare;therefore,the corresponding clinical guidelines,histopathological diagnostic criteria,prognostic factors,and therapeutic regimens have not been established.CASE SUMMARY This study covers a novel presentation of MNC in a patient and summarizes the clinicopathological characteristics of this type of tumor by using pooled-analysis methods.Morphologically,this tumor type is a series of benign to malignant pedigrees.We establish the following criteria for the classification of micronodular thymic tumors with lymphoid stroma:(1)Tumor cells with moderate-to-severe dysplasia;(2)Tumor cell mitotic figures>2/10 high-power fields;(3)Appearance of neoplastic necrosis;(4)No terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-positive immature T lymphocytes within the tumor;(5)Tumor cells with a Ki-67 index≥10%;and(6)Tumor cells express CD5.Cases that fall into the borders of two categories in terms of morphology are attributed to atypical MNT.It is proposed that the diagnosis of MNT should be established on the diagnostic criteria mentioned above.CONCLUSION Our diagnostic algorithm can effectively distinguish malignant tumors from benign tumors and provides a potent basis for predicting a prognosis,which offers a practical reference for oncologists and pathologists.Bei Wang Kai Li Qing-Kun Song Xiu-Hong Wang Lei Yang Hong-Lei Zhang Ding-Rong Zhong 2019World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,23:4

12MicroRNA expression in the hippocampal CA1 region under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest显示文摘Using deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, thoracic aorta diseases and complex heart diseases can be subjected to corrective procedures. However, mechanisms underlying brain protection during deep hypothermic circulatory arrest are unclear. After piglet models underwent 60 minutes of deep hypothermic circulatory arrest at 14°C, expression of microRNAs(miRNAs) was analyzed in the hippocampus by microarray. Subsequently, TargetScan 6.2, RNA22 v2.0, miRWalk 2.0, and miRanda were used to predict potential targets, and gene ontology enrichment analysis was carried out to identify functional pathways involved. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was conducted to verify miRNA changes. Deep hypothermic circulatory arrest altered the expression of 35 miRNAs. Twenty-two miRNAs were significantly downregulated and thirteen miRNAs were significantly upregulated in the hippocampus after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest. Six out of eight targets among the differentially expressed miRNAs were enriched for neuronal projection(cyclin dependent kinase, CDK16 and SLC1 A2), central nervous system development(FOXO3, TYRO3, and SLC1 A2), ion transmembrane transporter activity(ATP2 B2 and SLC1 A2), and interleukin-6 receptor binding(IL6 R)– these are the key functional pathways involved in cerebral protection during deep hypothermic circulatory arrest. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction confirmed the results of microarray analysis. Our experimental results illustrate a new role for transcriptional regulation in deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, and provide significant insight for the development of miRNAs to treat brain injuries. 13Construction of Non-infectious SARS-CoV-2 Replicons and Their Application in Drug Evaluation显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has caused a devastating pandemic worldwide.Vaccines and antiviral drugs are the most promising candidates for combating this global epidemic,and scientists all over the world have made great efforts to this end.However,manipulation of the SARS-CoV-2 should be performed in the biosafety level3 laboratory.This makes experiments complicated and time-consuming.Therefore,a safer system for working with this virus is urgently needed.Here,we report the construction of plasmid-based,non-infectious SARS-CoV-2 replicons with turbo-green fluorescent protein and/or firefly luciferase reporters by reverse genetics using transformation-associated recombination cloning in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.Replication of these replicons was achieved simply by direct transfection of cells with the replicon plasmids as evident by the expression of reporter genes.Using SARS-CoV-2 replicons,the inhibitory effects of E64-D and remdesivir on SARS-CoV-2 replication were confirmed,and the halfmaximal effective concentration(EC50)value of remdesivir and E64-D was estimated by different quantification methods respectively,indicating that these SARS-CoV-2 replicons are useful tools for antiviral drug evaluation.Bei Wang Chongyang Zhang Xiaobo Lei Lili Ren He Huang Jianwei Wang Zhendong Zhao 2021Virologica Sinica2021,36,5:3
14The effect of transition metal ions (M^(2+)=Mn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+),Cu^(2+)) on the chemical synthesis polyaniline as counter electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells显示文摘The effect of transition metal ions(M^(2+)=Mn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+),Cu^(2+)) on the chemical synthesis of polyaniline(PANI) used as a platinum-free counter electrode(CE) in dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) was investigated.PANI was synthesized by co-polymerization of aniline in the presence of different transition metal ions by using potassium dichromate in acidic medium. It was found that the ion doping of PANI showed a certain catalytic activity for the regeneration of traditional iodide/triiodide(I^-/I_3^-) redox couples. The power conversion efficiency(η) of PANI CEs doped with Mn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+) (4.41%, 2.36% and 2.10%, respectively) were higher than 1.94%, the value measured for PANI CE without doping. Doping with Cu^(2+)decreased the power conversion efficiency of PANI CE(PANI-Cu^(2+) η = 1.41%). The electrical properties of the PANI, PANI-Ni^(2+), PANI-Co^(2+),PANI-Mn^(2+) and PANI-Cu^(2+) were studied by cyclic voltammetry(CV), impedance(EIS), and Tafel polarization curve. The experimental results confirmed that PANI was affected by the doping of different transition metal ions(M^(2+)=Mn^(2+),Ni^(2+),Co^(2+),Cu^(2+)). 16Identification of two novel mutations in the GALNT3 gene in a Chinese family with hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis显示文摘Hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis(HFTC) is a rare, autosomal recessive genetic disease.This disease is characterized by the progressive calcification of soft tissues leading to symptoms of pressure and hyperphosphatemia but normal concentrations of serum calcium with or without an elevation of1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 levels.HFTC is caused by loss-of-function mutations in the GALNT3, FGF23 or KL genes. 18Selected dark sides of biomass-derived biochars as environmental amendments显示文摘With the rapid increase in the application of biochars as amendments, studies are needed to clarify the possible environmental risks derived from biochars to use safely the biomass resources. This work reported selected dark sides of maize straw-and swine manurederived biochars pyrolyzed at 300 and 500°C. During the pyrolysis processes, total heavy metals in the biochars were enriched greatly accompanying with considerable emission of the heavy metals into atmosphere and the trends became increasingly obvious with pyrolysis temperature. Meanwhile, the biochars showed distinctly decreased available heavy metals compared with raw feedstocks, which could be mainly attributed to the sorption by the inorganics in the biochars. The water-and acid-washing treatments significantly increased the releasing risks of heavy metals from biochars into the environments. Electron paramagnetic resonance analysis indicated that persistent free radicals, emerged strongly in the biochars as a function of the aromatization of biomass feedstocks, were free from the influence of water-, acid-, or organic-washing of the biochars and could remain stable even after aged in soils for 30 days.
