| 1 | Pattern and timing of late Cenozoic rapid exhumation and uplift of the Helan Mountain,China显示文摘The Helan Mountain, an intraplate deformation belt in the North China Craton, is located in the northern portion of the China North-South seismic belt, and at the northwestern margin of the Ordos Block. The Cenozoic deformation history of the Helan Mountain is characterized by extension along the eastern Helan Mountain fault (EHSF), resulting in the exhumation and uplift of the Helan Mountain, relative to the rifting of the adjacent Yinchuan Basin. Here we present new apatite fission track (AFT) data from several transects adjacent to the EHSF in the central and northern Helan Mountain. AFT ages from the northern Helan Mountain (Dawukou and Zhengyiguan transects) range from 10 Ma to 89 Ma, whereas AFT ages from the southern Helan Mountain (Suyukou transect) are greater than 71 Ma. The AFT data analysis reveals initiation of rapid uplift and exhumation of the Helan Mountain at 10–12 Ma. Additionally, a plot of the AFT ages versus their mean track length shows a distinctive 'boomerang' pattern indicating that the Helan Mountain experienced a discrete phase of accelerated exhumation beginning at 10-12 Ma. Spatially, AFT samples systematically increase in age away from the EHSF and are consistent with late Cenozoic exhumation that was slow in the southwestern Helan Mountain and rapid in the northeastern Helan Mountain, as well more rapid adjacent to the EHSF and slower away from the EHSF. Obviously, the spatial distribution of late Cenozoic exhumation indicates that normal faulting of the EHSF is related to southwestward tilting and rapid exhumation of the Helan Mountain beginning at 10–12 Ma. | 6 | Measures for controlling large deformations of underground caverns under high in-situ stress condition--A case study of JinpingⅠhydropower station显示文摘The Jinping Ⅰ hydropower station is a huge water conservancy project consisting of the highest concrete arch dam to date in the world and a highly complex and large underground powerhouse cavern.It is located on the right bank with extremely high in-situ stress and a few discontinuities observed in surrounding rock masses.The problems of rock mass deformation and failure result in considerable challenges related to project design and construction and have raised a wide range of concerns in the fields of rock mechanics and engineering.During the excavation of underground caverns,high in-situ stress and relatively low rock mass strength in combination with large excavation dimensions lead to large deformation of the surrounding rock mass and support.Existing experiences in excavation and support cannot deal with the large deformation of rock mass effectively,and further studies are needed.In this paper,the geological conditions,layout of caverns,and design of excavation and support are first introduced,and then detailed analyses of deformation and failure characteristics of rocks are presented.Based on this,the mechanisms of deformation and failure are discussed,and the support adjustments for controlling rock large deformation and subsequent excavation procedures are proposed.Finally,the effectiveness of support and excavation adjustments to maintain the stability of the rock mass is verified.The measures for controlling the large deformation of surrounding rocks enrich the practical experiences related to the design and construction of large underground openings,and the construction of caverns in the Jinping Ⅰ hydropower station provides a good case study of large-scale excavation in highly stressed ground with complex geological structures,as well as a reference case for research on rock mechanics. | Shengwu Song Xuemin Feng Chenggang Liao Dewen Cai Zhongxu Liu Yunhao Yang | 2016 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,5: | 5 |
| 7 | Terrestrial flux in sediments from the Okinawa Trough estimated using geochemical compositional data and its response to climate changes over the past 35000 a显示文摘Terrestrial supply to marginal seas is a function of interaction between land and ocean in response to climate changes.Terrestrial flux in sediments,therefore,is potential not only to reflect the paleoceanographic evolution of sedimentary basin,but also to reveal the paleoclimatic changes in source regions.Sediments from the Okinawa Trough were quantitatively partitioned into terrestrial,volcanic and biogenitic end members using constrained least-squares technique for geochemical compositional data.Combined with the density of bulk sediments and sedimentation rate,the terrestrial flux in sediments from the Okinawa Trough since the last 35 000 a was estimated.Based on surface seawater temperature(SST) and sea level changes over the past 35 000 a,the response of terrestrial flux to the climate changes was discussed.It is demonstrated that the terrestrial supply to the Okinawa Trough mainly derived from Chinese landmass via the Changjiang(Yangtze) River and controlled by sea level changes.During the post-glaciation,the terrestrial flux was the lowest in response to the highest sea level stand.During the last glacial maximum(LGM),the terrestrial flux was not so high as previously expected,indicating the arid climatic condition in source region was responsible for lowering the Changjiang River's runoff during that time.During the deglaciation,the terrestrial flux increased in response to a quick rising of the sea level,probably implicating occurrence of down-slope transport.The four events characterized by slight increase in terrestrial flux exactly correspond to the LGM,Heinrich events(H1,H2,H3),respectively. | MENG Xianwei LIU Yanguang DU Dewen SHI Xuefa | 2009 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2009,28,1: | 5 |
| 8 | Effect of variety and drying method on the nutritive value of corn for growing pigs显示文摘Background:This experiment was conducted to determine the nutritive value of corn from the north of China for growing pigs.The experiment examined corn variety(LS1,LS2,LS3 and LS4)grown in one location,drying method(sun dried and artificially dried)and different drying temperatures.Corn harvested at 20-25%moisture was dried to about 12%moisture by sun drying and artificially drying at 80,100,or 120℃ in a fluidized bed dryer.Ninety-six barrows(average BW of 33.4 ± 2.7 kg)were housed in individual metabolism crates to facilitate separate collection of feces and urine.A five-day collection period followed a seven-day diet acclimation period.Results:The results indicated that variety significantly influenced(P<0.01)the 1,000 kernel weight of corn but not the bulk weight.Variety also influenced the available energy content(digestible energy of dry matter,P<0.01;metabolisable energy of dry matter,P<0.01)and digestibility of organic matter(P<0.01),as well as dry matter(P<0.01)and gross energy(GE)content(P<0.02).The drying method of corn significantly influenced the 1,000 kernel weight(P<0.01),bulk weight(P<0.01)and digestibility of ether extract(EE)(P<0.01).No effect of drying temperature on the digestibility of organic matter,dry matter(DM),crude protein(CP),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),acid detergent fiber(ADF)and gross energy was observed,but gelatinization(P<0.05)and test weight(P<0.01)decreased with an increase in temperature.Conclusions:Variety has a significant impact on the nutritive value of corn for growing pigs,and greater attention needs to be paid to these influences in the assignment of the nutritive value of corn given to growing pigs. | Quanfeng Li Meng Shi Chuanxin Shi Dewen Liu Xiangshu Piao Defa Li Changhua Lai | 2014 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,4: | 5 |
| 9 | Holocene tephra deposits in the northern Okinawa Trough显示文摘The mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of sediments of Core CSH1, which was collected from the northern Okinawa Trough, indicate that large amounts of volcanic materials have deposited in the northern Okinawa Trough during the Holocene. On the basis of down-core variations in mineral and element contents of sediments, two layers in the uppermost section of Core CSH1 charac- terized by high quartz, Na2O, MnO, K2O, uranium contents and low contents of clay minerals, volatiles, Fe2O3, MgO, CaO and stron- tium, have been identified as the tephra deposits. Systematic grain-size measurements also suggest that sediments from the northern Okinawa Trough are made up of terrigenous materials and volcanic ashes with different proportion during the Holocene. The sedi- ments of tephra layers in Core CSH1 show bi-modal patterns in grain-size distribution with modal grain-sizes of 74.3 and 7.81 μm, respectively. | 11 | Anti-rutting performance evaluation of modified asphalt binders: A review显示文摘Asphalt pavement inevitably suffers rutting distress induced by repeated loads under high temperatures, which can be effectively alleviated by the modification of asphalt binders.This paper summarized the asphalt modifiers for enhancing the performance of asphalt pavement at high temperatures in terms of the modifier type, additive amount and improving effect. Then, the anti-rutting performance evaluation methods of asphalt binder were introduced with details, including the ring and ball(R&B) test, the dynamic viscosity test, the zero/low shear viscosity(ZSV/LSV) test, the dynamic shear rheometer(DSR) test,the repeated creep and recovery(RCR) test, and the multiple stress creep and recovery(MSCR) test. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the evaluation method to asphalt modifier was analyzed using the normalization method. It was found that the indicators from the MSCR test could clearly reveal the influence of asphalt modifiers on high temperature performance of asphalt binder. But it still had some limitations affecting the accuracy of evaluation results, such as the number of creep-recovery cycles, the stress level and the recovery time. | 14 | Predicting corn digestible and metabolizable energy content from its chemical composition in growing pigs显示文摘Background:The nutrient composition of corn is variable.To prevent unforeseen reductions in growth performance,grading and analytical methods are used to minimize nutrient variability between calculated and analyzed values.This experiment was carried out to define the sources of variation in the energy content of com and to develop a practical method to accurately estimate the digestible energy(DE) and metabolisable energy(ME)content of individual com samples for growing pigs.Twenty samples were taken from each of five provinces in China(Jilin,Hebei,Shandong,Liaoning,and Henan) to obtain a range of quality.Results:The DE and ME contents of the 100 corn samples were measured in 35.3 ± 1.92 kg growing pigs(six pigs per corn sample).Sixty corn samples were used to build the prediction model;the remaining forty samples were used to test the suitability of these models.The chemical composition of each corn sample was determined,and the results were used to establish prediction equations for DE or ME content from chemical characteristics.The mean DE and ME content of the 100 samples were 4,053 and 3,923 kcal/kg(dry matter basis),respectively.The physical characteristics were determined,as well,and the results indicated that the bulk weight and 1,000-kernel weight were not associated with energy content.The DE and ME values could be accurately predicted from chemical characteristics.The best fit equations were as follows:DE,kcal/kg of DM = 1062.68 +(49.72 x EE) +(0.54 x GE) +(9.11 x starch),with R^2 = 0.62,residual standard deviation(RSD) = 48 kcal/kg,and P< 0.01;ME,kcal/kg of dry matter basis(DM) = 671.54 +(0.89 x DE)-(5.57 x NDF)-(191.39 x ash),with R2 = 0.87,RSD = 18 kcal/kg,and P<0,01.Conclusion:This experiment confirms the large variation in the energy content of corn,describes the factors that influence this variation,and presents equations based on chemical measurements that may be used to predict the DE and ME content of individual corn samples. | Quanfeng Li Jianjun Zang Dewen Liu Xiangshu Piao Chanqhua Lai Defa Li | 2014 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,3: | 2 |
| 15 | Right anterior cingulate gyrus in encephalic region associated with integrating and processing Chinese words information in working memory: A functional magnetic resonance imaging study显示文摘BACKGROUND: Many experimental results have been found in previous studies on whether laterality of brain cingulate gyrus exists in processing Chinese words information. OBJECTIVE: To observe the function of right anterior cingulate gyrus and activation showed by MRI in processing Chinese words in a visual working memory judgment tasks, and evaluate the laterality of activated brain regions. DESIGN: Observation experiment. SETTING: The Medical Psychological Research Center, Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. PARTICIPANTS: Thirteen healthy volunteers (7 males and 6 females), aged (29±7)years ranging from 23 to 36 years old, participated in this fMRI study during August 2003 to Febuary 2004. They gave informed consent in accordance with guidelines set by Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. All subjects were native Chinese speakers and strongly right handed. METHODS: In this study, Chinese numeral words were used as test materials and test mode of Sternberg was used in cognitive task, it was aimed to investigate the encephalic region involved in the storage and processing of Chinese numerical information. ①The head of subject was fixed with dense foam pad. Visual working task was performed according to the requests. Verbal working task was that the subject saw target items for four numerals written in Chinese, presenting for 1.5 s and then, after a short time by blank for 3.0 s. The subject saw one numeral presenting for 1.5 s and had to press one button if it was one of the shown numbers and another button if it did not belong to the presented numbers. There were two visual working memory stimuli in each stimulation block. The experiment was conducted in a single run, which consisted of seven blocks of visual working memory tasks. Different Chinese numerals were displayed in each block to avoid any practice effect (The response rate of the whole working memory task was 50%). ②The activation of brain was scanned with a 1.5T MRI scanner (GE Signa Twinspeed) (slice thickness 5 mm, slice gap 1.5 mm, slice parallel to line between pars geniculate and splenium in corpus callosum from corona capitis to superior part of cerebellum, totally 16 to 18 layers). ③The obtained images were pre-processed and statistically analysed with SPM 99 software. The procedure included timeslice adjusted, realigned, nomalized and smoothed. According to experimental task, data from each subject were analysed to obtain t value of each voxel. Brain activation image was got by Student’s t test and statistic was presented by pseudo-color. Statistical parameter image was formed by overlapping brain activation image on three-dimensional structure image, and the threshold value was set at P < 0.05 with ten or more continous voxels (T ≥ 4.64, K ≥ 10 voxels). The brain activation images of all the subjects were calculated and overlapped into mean brain activation images. The regions with different activation density were found out. The activation voxels in regions-of-interest were checked to calculate a laterality index for each condition. The negative value indicated right hemisphere dominance. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: fMRI activation and laterality coefficient of Chinese numerial working task. RESULTS: Thirteen healthy subjects participated in the result analysis. ①fMRI activation of Chinese numerial working task: The results showed that the working memory task with Chinese words not only activated left cerebral cortex including left superior frontal gyrus (BA6/10), left middle frontal gyrus (BA9), left inferior frontal gyrus (BA45/9/47), but also activated right cerebral cortex including right middle frontal gyrus (BA10/46/8), right inferior frontal lobe (BA47). Specially, peak activation was located in right anterior cingulate gyrus (BA32) with an activation volume of 879 (voxels). It indicated that superior, middle and inferior frontal gyrus, bilateral Broca regions and anterior cingutate involved in the working memory of Chinese words. ②Asymmertry index : The asymmetry index was -0.47 for frontal lobe, +0.42 for temporal lobe, +0.14 for parietal lobe and -1.00 for occipital lobe. It indicated that the right frontal lobe, left temporal lobe, left parietal lobe and right occipital lobe were more involved in the Chinese numerial working task. CONCLUSION: Brain activation in processing Chinese words in the visual working memory task broadly involves both the left and right hemisphere cortex.
