3Natural astaxanthin enhanced antioxidant capacity and improved semen quality through the MAPK/Nrf2 pathway in aging layer breeder roosters显示文摘Background:Natural astaxanthin(ASTA)has strong antioxidant properties and has been widely used as a health product to improve human health.However,the effects of ASTA on the reproductive performance of aging roosters have been poorly studied.We aimed to investigate the effects of dietary ASTA on semen quality and antioxidant capacity in aging roosters and to explore the potential mechanism of semen quality change via antioxidation defense system.Methods:In the present study,9653-week-old Jinghong No.1 layer breeder roosters were fed a corn-soybean meal basal diet containing 0,25,50,or 100 mg/kg ASTA for 6 weeks.Results:Semen quality in the ASTA groups remarkably improved than that in the control group,and antioxidant activities,the abilities to scavenge hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anions,increased gradually with ASTA addition(P<0.05).In addition,the mRNA levels of antioxidant enzymes as well as the mRNA and protein levels of the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)were markedly increased in the 50-100 mg/kg ASTA group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Collectively,these results demonstrate that dietary ASTA may improve semen quality by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and the ability to scavenge hydroxyl radicals,which may be related to upregulation of the MAPK/Nrf2 pathway.Shan Gao Nuo Heng Fang Liu Yong Guo Yu Chen Liang Wang Hemin Ni Xihui Sheng Xiangguo Wang Kai Xing Longfei Xiao Xiaolong Qi 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,2:2

5A non-human primate derived anti-P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 antibody curtails acute pancreatitis by alleviating the inflammatory responses显示文摘Acute pancreatitis(AP)is a devastating disease characterized by an inflammatory disorder of the pancreas.P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1(PSGL-1)plays a crucial role in the initial steps of the adhesive at process to inflammatory sites,blockade of PSGL-1 might confer potent anti-inflammatory effects.In this study,we generated two non-human primate derived monoclonal antibodies capable of efficiently targeting human PSGL-1,RH001-6 and RH001-22,which were screened from immunized rhesus macaques.We found that RH001-6,can effectively block the binding of P-selectin to PSGL-1,and abolish the adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells in vitro.In vivo,we verified that RH001-6 relieved inflammatory responses and pancreatic injury in both caerulein and L-arginine induced AP models.We also evaluated the safety profile after RH001-6 treatment in mice,and verified that RH001-6 did not cause any significant pathological damages in vivo.Taken together,we developed a novel non-human primate derived PSGL-1 blocking antibody with high-specificity,named RH001-6,which can interrupt the binding of PSGL-1 and P-selectin and attenuate inflammatory responses during AP.Therefore,RH001-6 is highly potential to be further developed into therapeutics against acute inflammatory diseases,such as AP.Yuhan Li Xiangqing Ding Xianxian Wu Longfei Ding Yuhui Yang Xiaoliang Jiang Xing Liu Xu Zhang Jianrong Su Jianqing Xu Zhiwei Yang 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,11:0
6Improved Yield Prediction of Ratoon Rice Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Based Multi-Temporal Feature Method显示文摘Pre-harvest yield prediction of ratoon rice is critical for guiding crop interventions in precision agriculture.However,the unique agronomic practice(i.e.,varied stubble height treatment)in rice ratooning could lead to inconsistent rice phenology,which had a significant impact on yield prediction of ratoon rice.Multi-temporal unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)-based remote sensing can likely monitor ratoon rice productivity and reflect maximum yield potential across growing seasons for improving the yield prediction compared with previous methods.Thus,in this study,we explored the performance of combination of agronomic practice information(API)and single-phase,multi-spectral features[vegetation indices(VIs)and texture(Tex)features]in predicting ratoon rice yield,and developed a new UAV-based method to retrieve yield formation process by using multi-temporal features which were effective in improving yield forecasting accuracy of ratoon rice.The results showed that the integrated use of VIs,Tex and API(VIs&Tex+API)improved the accuracy of yield prediction than single-phase UAV imagery-based feature,with the panicle initiation stage being the best period for yield prediction(R^(2) as 0.732,RMSE as 0.406,RRMSE as 0.101).More importantly,compared with previous multi-temporal UAV-based methods,our proposed multi-temporal method(multi-temporal model VIs&Tex:R^(2) as 0.795,RMSE as 0.298,RRMSE as 0.072)can increase R^(2) by 0.020-0.111 and decrease RMSE by 0.020-0.080 in crop yield forecasting.This study provides an effective method for accurate pre-harvest yield prediction of ratoon rice in precision agriculture,which is of great significance to take timely means for ensuring ratoon rice production and food security.ZHOU Longfei MENG Ran YU Xing LIAO Yigui HUANG Zehua LÜZhengang XU Binyuan YANG Guodong PENG Shaobing XU Le 2023Rice science2023,30,3:0
7Membrane bioreactors for hospital wastewater treatment: recent advancements in membranes and processes显示文摘Discharged hospital wastewater contains various pathogenic microorganisms,antibiotic groups,toxic organic compounds,radioactive elements,and ionic pollutants.These contaminants harm the environment and human health causing the spread of disease.Thus,effective treatment of hospital wastewater is an urgent task for sustainable development.Membranes,with controllable porous and nonporous structures,have been rapidly developed for molecular separations.In particular,membrane bioreactor(MBR)technology demonstrated high removal efficiency toward organic compounds and low waste sludge production.To further enhance the separation efficiency and achieve material recovery from hospital waste streams,novel concepts of MBRs and their applications are rapidly evolved through hybridizing novel membranes(non hydrophilic ultrafiltration/microfiltration)into the MBR units(hybrid MBRs)or the MBR as a pretreatment step and integrating other membrane processes as subsequent secondary purification step(integrated MBR-membrane systems).However,there is a lack of reviews on the latest advancement in MBR technologies for hospital wastewater treatment,and analysis on its major challenges and future trends.This review started with an overview of main pollutants in common hospital wastewater,followed by an understanding on the key performance indicators/criteria in MBR membranes(i.e.,solute selectivity)and processes(e.g.,fouling).Then,an in-depth analysis was provided into the recent development of hybrid MBR and integrated MBR-membrane system concepts,and applications correlated with wastewater sources,with a particular focus on hospital wastewaters.It is anticipated that this review will shed light on the knowledge gaps in the field,highlighting the potential contribution of hybrid MBRs and integrated MBRmembrane systems toward global epidemic prevention.Yan Zhao Yangbo Qiu Natalie Mamrol Longfei Ren Xin Li Jiahui Shao Xing Yang Bart van der Bruggen 2022Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2022,16,5:0
8Comparative analysis of DNA-SIP and magnetic-nanoparticle mediated isolation (MMI) on unraveling dimethoate degraders显示文摘Microorganisms are crucial in the bioremediation of organophosphorus pesticides. However, most functional microorganisms (> 99%) are yet to be cultivated. This study applied two cultivation-independent approaches, DNA-SIP and magnetic-nanoparticle mediated isolation (MMI), to identify the functional microorganisms in degrading dimethoate in agricultural soils. MMI identified five dimethoate degraders: Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Ramlibacter, Arthrobacter, and Rhodococcus, whereas DNA-SIP identified three dimethoate degraders: Ramlibacter, Arthrobacter, and Rhodococcus. Also, MMI showed higher resolution than DNA-SIP in identifying functional microorganisms. Two organic phosphohydrolase (OPH) genes: ophC2 and ophB, were involved in dimethoate metabolism, as revealed by DNA-SIP and MMI. The degradation products of dimethoate include omethoate, O,O,S-trimethyl thiophosphorothioate, N-methyl-2-sulfanylacetamide, O,O-diethyl S-hydrogen phosphorodithioate, O,O,O-trimethyl thiophosphate, O,O,S-trimethyl thiophosphorodithioate, and O,O,O-trimethyl phosphoric. 9Effects of acupotomy on the activity of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in the subchondral bone of rabbits with early and mid-stage knee osteoarthritis models显示文摘Objective:To investigate whether acupotomy could inhibit subchondral bone remodeling in knee osteoarthritis(KOA)rabbits by regulating the activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts.Methods:KOA rabbits were prepared by immobilization for 6 and 9 weeks by Videman method.Nine groups of rabbits(control,6 weeks and 9 weeks model,6 weeks and 9 weeks acupotomy,6 weeks and 9 weeks electroacupuncture,and 6 weeks and 9 weeks drug groups)received acupotomy,electroacupuncture and risedronate sodium intervention,respectively,for 3 weeks.Results:Acupotomy can inhibit the activity of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in subchondral bone by reducing the proteins expression of cathepsin K(CK)and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)and decreasing the proteins expression of osteocalcin(OCN)and alkaline phosphatase(ALP),to intercept the abnormal bone resorption and bone formation of subchondral bone in 6-week and 9-week immobilization-induced KOA rabbits.Conclusion:These findings indicated that acupotomy may be more advantageous than risedronate sodium intervention in modulating subchondral bone remodeling in KOA rabbits,especially in 9-week immobilization-induced KOA rabbits.Mira Lee Yan Guo Xilin Chen Longfei Xing Wei Zhang Lia Chang Changqing Guo 2023Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2023,10,3:0
