| 1 | The HEPD particle detector of the CSES satellite mission for investigating seismo-associated perturbations of the Van Allen belts显示文摘CSES(China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite) is a mission developed by CNSA(Chinese National Space Administration) and ASI(Italian Space Agency), to investigate the near-Earth electromagnetic, plasma and particle environment, for studying the seismo-associated disturbances in the ionosphere-magnetosphere transition zone. The anthropogenic and electromagnetic noise,as well as the natural non-seismic electromagnetic emissions is mainly due to tropospheric activity. In particular, the mission aims to confirming the existence of possible temporal correlations between the occurrence of earthquakes for medium and strong magnitude and the observation in space of electromagnetic perturbations, plasma variations and precipitation of bursts with highenergy charged particles from the inner Van Allen belt. In this framework, the high energy particle detector(HEPD) of the CSES mission has been developed by the Italian LIMADOU Collaboration. HEPD is an advanced detector based on a tower of scintillators and a silicon tracker that provides good energy and angular resolution and a wide angular acceptance, for electrons of 3–100 Me V, protons of 30–200 Me V and light nuclei up to the oxygen. | 5 | Application of machine learning techniques to simulate the evaporative fraction and its relationship with environmental variables in corn crops显示文摘Background:The evaporative fraction(EF)represents an important biophysical parameter reflecting the distribution of surface available energy.In this study,we investigated the daily and seasonal patterns of EF in a multi-year corn cultivation located in southern Italy and evaluated the performance of five machine learning(ML)classes of algorithms:the linear regression(LR),regression tree(RT),support vector machine(SVM),ensembles of tree(ETs)and Gaussian process regression(GPR)to predict the EF at daily time step.The adopted methodology consisted of three main steps that include:(i)selection of the EF predictors;(ii)comparison of the different classes of ML;(iii)application,cross-validation of the selected ML algorithms and comparison with the observed data.Results:Our results indicate that SVM and GPR were the best classes of ML at predicting the EF,with a total of four different algorithms:cubic SVM,medium Gaussian SVM,the Matern 5/2 GPR,and the rational quadratic GPR.The com-parison between observed and predicted EF in all four algorithms,during the training phase,were within the 95%confidence interval:the R^(2)value between observed and predicted EF was 0.76(RMSE 0.05)for the medium Gaussian SVM,0.99(RMSE 0.01)for the rational quadratic GPR,0.94(RMSE 0.02)for the Matern 5/2 GPR,and 0.83(RMSE 0.05)for the cubic SVM algorithms.Similar results were obtained during the testing phase.The results of the cross-validation analysis indicate that the R^(2)values obtained between all iterations for each of the four adopted ML algorithms were basically constant,confirming the ability of ML as a tool to predict EF.Conclusion:ML algorithms represent a valid alternative able to predict the EF especially when remote sensing data are not available,or the sky conditions are not suitable.The application to different geographical areas,or crops,requires further development of the model based on different data sources of soils,climate,and cropping systems. | Terenzio Zenone Luca Vitale Daniela Famulari Vincenzo Magliulo | 2022 | Ecological Processes2022,11,1: | 1 |

| 8 | Microfabricated intracortical extracellular matrix-microelectrodes for improving neural interfaces显示文摘Intracortical neural microelectrodes,which can directly interface with local neural microcircuits with high spatial and temporal resolution,are critical for neuroscience research,emerging clinical applications,and brain computer interfaces(BCI).However,clinical applications of these devices remain limited mostly by their inability to mitigate inflammatory reactions and support dense neuronal survival at their interfaces.Herein we report the development of microelectrodes primarily composed of extracellular matrix(ECM)proteins,which act as a bio-compatible and an electrochemical interface between the microelectrodes and physiological solution.These ECM-microelectrodes are batch fabricated using a novel combination of micro-transfer-molding and excimer laser micromachining to exhibit final dimensions comparable to those of commercial silicon-based microelectrodes.These are further integrated with a removable insertion stent which aids in intracortical implantation.Results from electrochemical models and in vivo recordings from the rat’s cortex indicate that ECM encapsulations have no significant effect on the electrochemical impedance characteristics of ECM-microelectrodes at neurologically relevant frequencies.ECM-microelectrodes are found to support a dense layer of neuronal somata and neurites on the electrode surface with high neuronal viability and exhibited markedly diminished neuroinflammation and glial scarring in early chronic experiments in rats. | Wen Shen Suradip Das Flavia Vitale Andrew Richardson Akshay Ananthakrishnan Laura A.Struzyna Daniel P.Brown Naixin Song Murari Ramkumar Timothy Lucas DKacy Cullen Brian Litt Mark G.Allen | 2018 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1: | 1 |
