| 1 | Assessment of antidiabetic activity and acute toxicity of leaf extracts from Physalis peruviana L.in guinea-pig显示文摘Objective:To verify the antidiabetic activity of leaf extracts from Physalis peruviana L.popularly used in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to point out the possible toxicity.Method:Aqueous decoctions prepared from dried leaves powder were administrated to guinea pigs at the dose range of 100 mg/kg to 3.2 g/kg of body weight.The hypoglycemic activity was evaluated by glucose tolerance test,loading animals with glucose 4 g/kg and measuring blood glucose concentrations at various times.The effect was compared to the control and glibenclamide as antidiabetic reference drug.Acute toxicity was evaluated by recording mortality rate,changes on blood biomarkers and damage caused to vital organs.Results:At a dose of 100 mg/kg,the aqueous extract induced a significant reduction of peak concentration at 30 min after glucose loading as compared with control or reference(P<0.05).At doses greater than 400 mg,some alterations on blood,kidney and liver markers were observed.Upper 800 mg/kg,mortality was observed with LD_(50)estimated at about 1280 mg/kg.At the autopsy,vital organs were in haemorrhage and swelling state.Conclusion:The crude aqueous extracts from the leaves of Physalis peruviana L.present hypoglycemic aclivily in animal model,but at high doses the plant may cause severe intoxication. | Felicien Mushagalusa Kasali Justin Ntokamunda Kadima Pius Tshimankinda Mpiana Koto-te-Nyiwa Ngbolua Damien Sha-Tshibey Tshibangu | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,11: | 2 |

| 3 | Chemo-type of essential oil of Ocimum basilicum L.from DR Congo and relative in vitro antioxidant potential to the polarity of crude extracts显示文摘Objective:To carry out a phyto-chemical characterization of essential oil from Ocimum basilicum L.(O.basilicum) harvested in DR Congo and to assess the antioxidant potential of crude extracts with respect to the polarity for comparison reason.Methods:The phyto-chemical characterization of essential oil produced by hydrodistillation was performed by coupled gas chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis and the antioxidant potential evaluation by in vitro 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity method.Results:A previously weighed amount of fresh leaves of O.basilicum produced 0.65%of essential oil that led to the identification of a set of 84.44%out of 99.98%as major compounds(> 1.5%).The chemo-type of this essential oil was linalool-methyl chavicol.Chemical components of oil were characterized by oxygenated aromatic hydrocarbons(46.00%) and oxygenated monoterpenes(26.75%).With respect to the amount of components,methyl chavicol also known as estragole(35.72%) constituted the very large quantity afterward linalool(21.25%) and then epi-α-cadinol(8.02%),α-bergamotene(6.56%),eugenol(4.60%),1,8-cineole(4.04%),germacrene D(2.06%),thymol(1.64%),and(E)-citral(1.55%),respectively.Essential oil exhibited antioxidant potential and IC_(50) =(1.180 ± 0.015) mg/mL.Non-polar crude extracts yields were low compared to the one of polar extracts.Only methanol and ethyl acetate had considerably manifested antioxidant potential with IC_(50) values equal to(0.025 ± 0.013) mg/mL and(0.085 ± 0.012) mg/mL,respectively.As concerns to IC50 values,essential oil was less active than methanol and ethyl acetate extracts.The methanol crude extract exhibited the highest activity.Non-polar extracts showed insignificant radical scavenging ability that did not allow assessing IC50 values.These results highlighted the occurrence of antioxidant potential compounds in polar media.Conclusions:Essential oil and crude extracts of O.basilicum growing in DR Congo can be advocated as natural sources of antioxidant potential compounds not only in food but also in pharmaceutical industries.The high antioxidant potential of polar crude extracts highlights antioxidant character of its composition particularly butyl stearate and rosmarinic acid we isolated and identified,respectively in the methanol crude extract. | Dorothee Dinangayi Tshilanda Philippe Bila Babady Damase Nguwo Vele Onyamboko Christian Muamba Tshilolo Tshiongo Damien Sha-Tshibey Tshibangu Koto-te-Nyiwa Ngbolua Philippe Vuka Tsalu Pius Tshimankinda Mpiana | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,12: | 0 |

| 5 | Binding Reaction of Hemin with Chloroquine, Quinine and Quinidine in Water-propylene Glycol Mixture显示文摘The interaction of hemin with chloroquine, quinine and quinidine was investigated in 50% water propylene glycol mixture at pH=9, 8 1, 7 4 and 6 8 using a spectrophotometric method. The data could be well fitted into a model consistent with the formation of a 1∶1 complex between the reacting partners. In addition, the results indicated that hemin complexed more strongly with quinidine than with chloroquine and quinine, and the binding constants were pH dependent. | 6 | Ethno-medical Profiling of Myrianthus arboreus P.Beauv:A Phyto-resource Food of Chimpanzees(Pan troglodytes Blumenbach,1799)in the Ubangi Eco-region of Democratic Republic of the Congo显示文摘The aim of this study was to evaluate the ethnomedical knowledge of the population of South Ubangi on Myrianthus arboreus,a plant consumed by chimpanzees,with the assumption that this bio-resource is also used by the population in African Traditional Medicine to treat common diseases.The results revealed that M.arboreus treats 23 diseases in the province of South Ubangi in Democratic Republic of the Congo.Of these diseases,six(anaemia,bronchitis,tooth decay,gastritis,hypertension,and spleen)are the most cited.Anaemia and spleen are treated by all socio-cultural groups.The leaf is the most used organ(48%)followed by sap,roots,stems,bark,flowers,and seeds.Expression(61.5%)is the most used method of preparation followed by decoction,maceration,and mastication.Oral(94.5%)is the most used method of administration followed by body bath,massage,anal and auricular route.M.arboreus is a vulnerable species(Iv≥2.5)in the study area.The diseases treated are influenced by the level of education and the profession of the respondents(p<0.05).While the mode of preparation of recipes is influenced by the family situation,also the composition of recipes is influenced by gender,age and occupation(p<0.05).The search for new sources of bio-inspired drugs through zoopharmacognosy may thus allow the development of effective phytomedicines for the health care of humans or non-human primates ex situ.Thus the need for advanced phytochemical and pharmacological studies and the domestication of M.arboreus for its multiple food and pharmacological uses is necessary. | Pascal Bobuya Koto-Te-Nyiwa Ngbolua Antoine Mumba Masengo Ashande Lemmy Lassa Willy Lusasi Monizi Mawunu Damien Tshibangu Pius Mpiana Virima Mudogo | 2023 | Journal of Botanical Research2023,5,2: | 0 |
