| 2 | High-density mapping suggests cytoplasmic male sterility with two restorer genes in almond×peach progenies显示文摘Peach(Prunus persica)and almond(Prunus dulcis)are two sexually compatible species that produce fertile offspring.Almond,a highly polymorphic species,is a potential source of new genes for peach that has a strongly eroded gene pool.Here we describe the genetics of a male sterile phenotype that segregated in two almond(‘Texas’)×peach(‘Earlygold’)progenies:an F2(T×E)and a backcross one(T1E)to the‘Earlygold’parent.High-density maps were developed using a 9k peach SNP chip and 135 simple-sequence repeats.Three highly syntenic and collinear maps were obtained:one for the F2(T×E)and two for the backcross,T1E(for the hybrid)and E(for‘Earlygold’).A major reduction of recombination was observed in the interspecific maps(T×E and T1E)compared to the intraspecific parent(E).The E map also had extensive monomorphic genomic regions suggesting the presence of large DNA fragments identical by descent.Our data for the male sterility character were consistent with the existence of cytoplasmic male sterility,where individuals having the almond cytoplasm required the almond allele in at least one of two independent restorer genes,Rf1 and Rf2,to be fertile.The restorer genes were located in a 3.4 Mbp fragment of linkage group 2(Rf1)and 1.4 Mbp of linkage group 6(Rf2).Both fragments contained several genes coding for pentatricopeptide proteins,demonstrated to be responsible for restoring fertility in other species.The implications of these results for using almond as a source of novel variability in peach are discussed. | JoséManuel Donoso Iban Eduardo Roger Picañol Ignasi Batlle Werner Howad María JoséAranzana Pere Arús | 2015 | Horticulture Research2015,2,1: | 1 |

| 14 | Community‑based screening of Chagas disease among Latin American migrants in a non‑endemic country: an observational study显示文摘Background:Chagas disease is a parasitic disease endemic to Latin America,but it has become a disease of global concern due to migration fows.Asymptomatic carriers may host the parasite for years,without knowing they are infected.The aim of this study is to assess prevalence of Chagas disease and evaluate the participants’level of knowl‑edge between Latin American migrants attending a community-based screening campaign.Methods:Three community-based campaigns were performed in Alicante(Spain)in 2016,2017 and 2018,including educational chats and blood tests for Trypanosoma cruzi serology.Participants completed a questionnaire assessing knowledge about the mechanisms of transmission,disease presentation,diagnosis,and treatment.People seroposi‑tive for T.cruzi underwent diagnostic confrmation by two diferent tests.Results were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression and expressed as adjusted odds ratios(aORs),adjusting for age,sex,and time in Spain.Results:A total of 596 participants were included in the study;17%were aged under 18 years.Prevalence in adults was 11%[54/496;95%confdence interval(CI):8.3–14.5%]versus 0%among children.All but one case were in Bolivians.Diagnosis was independently associated with having been born in Bolivia(aOR:102,95%CI:13–781)and a primary school-level education(aOR:2.40,95%CI:1.14–5.06).Of 54 people diagnosed with Chagas disease(most of whom were asymptomatic),42(77.7%)returned to the clinic at least once,and 24(44.4%)received treatment.Multivariable analysis showed that coming from Argentina(aOR:13,95%CI:1.61–1188)or Bolivia(aOR:1.90,95%CI:1.19–3.39)and having received information about Chagas disease in Spain(aOR:4.63,95%CI:2.54–8.97)were associ‑ated with a good level of knowledge on the disease.Having primary level studies(aOR:0.59,95%CI:0.34–0.98)and coming from Ecuador(aOR:4.63,95%CI:2.52–847)were independently associated with a lower level of knowledge.Conclusions:Community-based interventions are a good strategy for diagnosing neglected diseases such as Chagas disease in non-endemic countries and for identifying and treating infected,asymptomatic individuals. | Violeta Ramos‑Sesma Miriam Navarro Jara Llenas‑García Concepción Gil‑Anguita Diego Torrus‑Tendero Philip Wikman‑Jorgensen María García‑López Concepción Amador‑Prous María‑Paz Ventero‑Martín Pedro Guevara‑Hernández Ana Garijo‑Saiz Ares Sanchez‑Sanchez Cristina Bernal‑Alcaraz Ana‑Isabel Pujades‑Tarraga Roser Muñoz‑Perez María Flores‑Chávez José‑Manuel Ramos‑Rincón | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,5: | 0 |

Prolonged episodes of AF promote AF persistence mainly due to electrical remodelling that alters ion-channel expression and/or function. Micro RNAs(mi RNAs), a new class of noncoding mR NAs of around 22 nucleotides in length, have recently emerged as one of the key players in the geneexpression regulatory networks. The potential roles of miR NAs in controlling AF have recently been investigated. Several recent studies have provided promising results for a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of AF. | 16 | Selection and Analysis of Polymorphisms in Somaclonal Variants of Agave americana Resistant to Fusarium oxysporum via an Ethyl Methanesulphonate Treatment显示文摘Agave americana L.callus were exposed to different concentrations of ethyl methanesulphonate(EMS)0,15,30,45 and 60 mM and to different times of exposure(2 and 4 h).The viability and capacity of shoot formation were shown to be affected when the callus were exposed to high concentrations(30–60 mM).Only the callus exposed to 15 mM EMS presented shoot formation;the exposure time of two hours produced the largest quantity of shoots regenerated per callus(21 shoots/callus).In order to generate somaclonal variants resistant to Fusarium oxysporum,a selection pressure was applied through of a culture filtrate(CF)of 100 ppm of the fungus.This was made in callus obtained in the treatment with 15 mM EMS during 2 h of exposure.The CF caused oxidation and necrosis in 71.25%of the callus;however,they were capable of generating shoots(3.5 shoots/callus).Molecular markers type RAPD,ISSR and DAMD were used to evaluate the genetic variation arising from the mutations caused by EMS on control plants and 16-month-old somaclonal variants.The polymorphic information content(PIC)for each one of the initiating groups was:0.28(DAMD),0.09(ISSR)and 0.14(RAPD).DAMD revealed a greater percentage of polymorphism than RAPD and ISSR.Polymorphic bands were detected in the somaclonal variants.This indicated that the EMS caused genetic variation in the regenerated plants conferring resistance to them against Fusarium oxysporum. | Sheila Jazmín Reyes-Zambrano Carlos Alberto Lecona-Guzmán Federico Antonio Gutiérrez-Miceli Víctor Manuel Ruiz-Valdiviezo Arely Anayansi Vargas-Díaz | 2021 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,6: | 0 |
