1Predictability of sediment transport in the Yellow River using selected transport formulas显示文摘This paper evaluates the applicability of the sediment transport methods developed by Engelund and Hansen, Ackers and White, Yang et al., and van Rijn, together with the Wuhan methods developed in China, to the Yellow River, which has highly concentrated and fine-grained sediment. The sediment data includes over 1000 observations from the Yellow River, 32 sets of data from a canal, and 266 sets of data from laboratory flumes. The best predictions were obtained by the Yang 1996 method, the Wuhan method, and the modified Wuhan method by Wu and Long, while reasonably good predictions were also provided by the van Rijn 2004 method. The Engelund and Hansen, the Ackers and White, and the van Rijn 1984 methods in their original forms are not applicable to the Yellow River. The predicted results for total load concentrations were as good as for bed-material concentrations, even though the total load includes a large portion of wash load.Baosheng WU D. 2Regulation of natural killer cell activity by glucocorticoids,serotonin,dopamine,and epinephrine显示文摘The immune system and the nervous system are highly complex organs composed of various different cells that must interact with each other for proper function of the system.This communication can be mediated by soluble factors.The factors released by the nervous system(neurotransmitters)differ from those released by the immune system(cytokines).Nevertheless,the nervous and immune systems can influence each other’s activity because immune cells express neurotransmitter receptors,and neurons express cytokine receptors.Moreover,immune cells can synthesize and release neurotransmitters themselves,thus using neurotransmittermediated pathways via autocrine and paracrine mechanisms.Natural killer(NK)cells are innate lymphocytes that are important for early and effective immune reactions against infections and cancer.Many studies have shown the strong influence of stress and the nervous system on NK cell activity.This phenomenon may be one reason why chronic stress leads to a higher incidence of infections and cancer.Here,we review the effects of neuroendocrine factors on the different activities of NK cells.Understanding the effects of neuroendocrine factors on NK cell activities during physiological and pathophysiological conditions may result in novel therapeutic strategies to enhance NK cell functions against tumors.Silvia Capellino Maren Claus Carsten Watzl 2020Cellular & Molecular Immunology2020,17,7:5
3Establishing minimum clinically important difference values for the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Physical Function, hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score for joint reconstruction, and knee injury and osteoarthritis out显示文摘AIM To establish minimum clinically important difference(MCID) for measurements in an orthopaedic patient population with joint disorders.METHODS Adult patients aged 18 years and older seeking care for joint conditions at an orthopaedic clinic took the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Physical Function(PROMIS~? PF) computerized adaptive test(CAT), hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score for joint reconstruction(HOOS JR), and the knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score for joint reconstruction(KOOS JR) from February 2014 to April 2017. MCIDs were calculated using anchorbased and distribution-based methods. Patient reports of meaningful change in function since their first clinic encounter were used as an anchor.RESULTS There were 2226 patients who participated with a mean age of 61.16(SD = 12.84) years, 41.6% male, and 89.7% Caucasian. Mean change ranged from 7.29 to 8.41 for the PROMIS~? PF CAT, from 14.81 to 19.68 for the HOOS JR, and from 14.51 to 18.85 for the KOOS JR. ROC cut-offs ranged from 1.97-8.18 for the PF CAT, 6.33-43.36 for the HOOS JR, and 2.21-8.16 for the KOOS JR. Distribution-based methods estimated MCID values ranging from 2.45 to 21.55 for the PROMIS~? PF CAT; from 3.90 to 43.61 for the HOOS JR, and from 3.98 to 40.67 for the KOOS JR. The median MCID value in the range was similar to the mean change score for each measure and was 7.9 for the PF CAT, 18.0 for the HOOS JR, and 15.1 for the KOOS JR.CONCLUSION This is the first comprehensive study providing a wide range of MCIDs for the PROMIS? 4Improved guided bone regeneration by combined application of unmodified, fresh autologous adipose derived regenerative cells and plasma rich in growth factors:A first-in-human case report and literature review显示文摘BACKGROUND Novel strategies are needed for improving guided bone regeneration(GBR) in oral surgery prior to implant placement, particularly in maxillary sinus augmentation(GBR-MSA) and in lateral alveolar ridge augmentation(LRA). This study tested the hypothesis that the combination of freshly isolated, unmodified autologous adipose-derived regenerative cells(UA-ADRCs), fraction 2 of plasma rich in growth factors(PRGF-2) and an osteoinductive scaffold(OIS)(UAADRC/PRGF-2/OIS) is superior to the combination of PRGF-2 and the same OIS alone(PRGF-2/OIS) in GBR-MSA/LRA.CASE SUMMARY A 79-year-old patient was treated with a bilateral external sinus lift procedure as well as a bilateral lateral alveolar ridge augmentation. GBR-MSA/LRA was performed with UA-ADRC/PRGF-2/OIS on the right side, and with PRGF-2/OIS on the left side. Biopsies were collected at 6 wk and 34 wk after GBRMSA/LRA. At the latter time point implants were placed. Radiographs(32 mo follow-up time) demonstrated excellent bone healing. No radiological or histological signs of inflammation were observed. 7Robotic surgery and liver transplantation:A single-center experience of 501 robotic donor hepatectomies显示文摘Background:Over the past two decades robotic surgery has been introduced to many areas including liver surgery.Laparoscopic liver surgery is an alternative minimally invasive approach.However,moving on to the complexity of living donor hepatectomies,the advantages of robotic versus laparoscopic approach have convinced us to establish the robotic platform as a standard for living donor hepatectomy.Methods:From November 2018 to January 2022,501 fully robotic donor hepatectomies,including 177 left lateral donor lobes,112 full left lobes and 212 full right lobes were performed.Grafts were donated to 296 adult recipients and 205 pediatric recipients.Donor age,sex,body weight,body mass index(BMI),graft weight,graft to body weight ratio(GBWR),operative time,blood loss,first warm ischemic time,pain score,length of intensive care unit(ICU)stay and hospital stay,and complications were retrospectively analyzed based on a prospectively kept database.Recipients were evaluated for graft and patient survival,age,sex,BMI,body weight,model of end-stage liver disease score,blood loss,transfusions,operative time,cold ischemic time,length of hospital stay and complications.Results:There was no donor mortality.Two cases needed to be converted to open surgery.The median blood loss was 60 mL(range 20-800),median donor operative time was 6.77 h(range 2.93-11.53),median length of hospital stay was 4 days(range 2-22).Complication rate in donors classified following ClavienDindo was 6.4%(n=32)with one grade Ⅲ complication.Three-year actual recipient overall survival was 91.4%;87.5% for adult recipients and 97.1% for pediatric recipients.Three-year actual graft overall survival was 90.6%;87.5% for adult recipients and 95.1% for pediatric recipients.In-hospital mortality was 6%,9.1%(27/296)for adult recipients and 1.4%(3/205)for pediatric recipients.The recipients’morbidity was 19.8%(n=99).Twenty-eight recipients(5.6%)had biliary and 22(4.4%)vascular complications.Six(12.0%)recipients needed to be re-transplanted.Conclusions:With growing experience it is nowadays possible to perform any donor hepatectomy by robotic approach regardless of anatomical variations and graft size.Donor morbidity and quality for life results are encouraging and should motivate other transplant centers with interest in minimally invasive donor surgery to adopt this robotic technique.Maren Schulze Yasser Elsheikh Markus Ulrich Boehnert Yasir Alnemary Saleh Alabbad Dieter Clemens Broering 2022Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2022,21,4:2
8Gene therapeutic approaches to inhibit hepatitis B virus replication显示文摘Acute and chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infections remain to present a major global health problem. The infection can be associated with acute symptomatic or asymptomatic hepatitis which can cause chronic inflammation of the liver and over years this can lead to cirrhosis and the development of hepatocellularcarcinomas. Currently available therapeutics for chronically infected individuals aim at reducing viral replication and to slow down or stop the progression of the disease. Therefore, novel treatment options are needed to efficiently combat and eradicate this disease. Here we provide a state of the art overview of gene therapeutic approaches to inhibit HBV replication. We discuss non-viral and viral approaches which were explored to deliver therapeutic nucleic acids aiming at reducing HBV replication. Types of delivered therapeutic nucleic acids which were studied since many years include antisense oligodeoxynucleotides and antisense RNA, ribozymes and DNAzymes, RNA interference, and external guide sequences. More recently designer nucleases gained increased attention and were exploited to destroy the HBV genome. In addition we mention other strategies to reduce HBV replication based on delivery of DNA encoding dominant negative mutants and DNA vaccination. In combination with available cell culture and animal models for HBV infection, in vitro and in vivo studies can be performed to test efficacy of gene therapeutic approaches. Recent progress but also challenges will be specified and future perspectives will be discussed. 9Leaves of Field-Grown Mastic Trees Suffer Oxidative Stress at the Two Extremes of their Lifespan显示文摘Leaf senescence is a complex phenomenon occurring in all plant species, but it is still poorly understood in plants grown in Mediterranean field conditions and well-adapted to harsh climatic conditions. To better understand the physiological processes underlying leaf senescence in mastic trees (Pistacia lentiscus L.), we evaluated leaf growth, water and N content, photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry, lipid peroxidation and levels of photosynthetic pigments, antioxidants, abscisic acid, and salicylic acid and jasmonic acid during the complete leaf lifespan, from early expansion to late senescence in relation to natural climatic conditions in the field. While mature leaves suffered from water and N deficit during late spring and summer, both young (emerging) and old (senescing) leaves were most sensitive to photo-oxidative stress, as indicated by reductions in the F v/F m ratio and enhanced lipid peroxidation during late autumn and winter. Reductions in the F v/F m ratio were associated with low α-tocopherol (vitamin E) levels, while very old, senescing leaves additionally showed severe anthocyanin losses.
