| 1 | Press-pack IGBTs for HVDC and FACTS显示文摘The popularity of insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs)for use in high-voltage direct current(HVDC)transmission and flexible AC transmission systems(FACTS)is increasing.Unfortunately,for these applications wire-bond IGBT technology has a number of shortcomings,such as insufficient current ratings for the most powerful schemes,and inability to fail to short-circuit.Press-pack IGBT technology,conversely,offers increased current ratings,and an inherent short-circuit failure mode,making it a more attractive choice for HVDC and FACTS.However,the design and manufacture of these devices requires a comprehensive understanding of the unique technical challenges,which differ markedly from those for wirebond modules or traditional pressure contact devices.Specific challenges include providing a high degree of mechanical protection for the IGBT chip against normal operating stresses.Furthermore,it is essential to achieve uniform contact pressure across each chip surface to ensure optimum performance.To achieve this,manufacturers have designed products that use rigid copper electrodes manufactured to tighter tolerances than for other pressure contact devices,such as thyristors,and products that use compliant electrodes,incorporating spring assemblies.Dynex is in the advanced stages of development of press-pack IGBT technology with demonstrated robust solutions for the technical challenges outlined in this paper.Design success has been achieved through the use of state-of-the-art simulations in conjunction with a long history of manufacturing expertise for bipolar and IGBT products.Finally,multiple press-pack IGBT variants are currently undergoing evaluation tests prior to product release. | Robin Simpson Ashley Plumpton Michael Varley Charles Tonner Paul Taylor Xiaoping Dai | 2017 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2017,3,3: | 10 |
| 2 | Intratidal and neap-spring variations of suspended sediment concentrations and sediment transport processes in the North Branch of the Changjiang Estuary显示文摘Profiles of tidal current and suspended sediment concentration(SSC) were measured in the North Branch of the Changjiang Estuary from neap tide to spring tide in April 2010. The measurement data were analyzed to determine the characteristics of intratidal and neap-spring variations of SSC and suspended sediment transport. Modulated by tidal range and current speed, the tidal mean SSC increased from 0.5 kg/m3 in neap tide to 3.5 kg/m3 in spring tide. The intratidal variation of the depth-mean SSC can be summarized into three types: V-shape variation in neap tide, M-shape and mixed M-V shape variation in medium and spring tides. The occurrence of these variation types is controlled by the relative intensity and interaction of resuspension, settling and impact of water exchange from the rise and fall of tide. In neap tide the V-shape variation is mainly due to the dominant effect of the water exchange from the rise and fall of tide. During medium and spring tides, resuspension and settling processes become dominant. The interactions of these processes, together with the sustained high ebb current and shorter duration of low-tide slack, are responsible for the M-shape and M-V shape SSC variation. Weakly consolidated mud and high current speed cause significant resuspension and remarkable flood and ebb SSC peaks. Settling occurs at the slack water periods to cause SSC troughs and formation of a thin fluff layer on the bed. | 4 | Optical observations of LIGO source GW 170817 by the Antarctic Survey Telescopes at Dome A,Antarctica显示文摘The LIGO detection of gravitational waves(GW) from merging black holes in 2015 marked the beginning of a new era in observational astronomy. The detection of an electromagnetic signal from a GW source is the critical next step to explore in detail the physics involved. The Antarctic Survey Telescopes(AST3),located at Dome A, Antarctica, is uniquely situated for rapid response time-domain astronomy with its continuous night-time coverage during the austral winter. We report optical observations of the GW source(GW 170817) in the nearby galaxy NGC 4993 using AST3. The data show a rapidly fading transient at around 1 day after the GW trigger, with the i-band magnitude declining from 17:23 ± 0:13 magnitude to 17:72 ± 0:09 magnitude in ~1:8 h. The brightness and time evolution of the optical transient associated with GW 170817 are broadly consistent with the predictions of models involving merging binary neutron stars. | 9 | Four-sample lactose hydrogen breath test for diagnosis of lactose malabsorption in irritable bowel syndrome patients with diarrhea显示文摘AIM: To validate 4-sample lactose hydrogen breath testing(4SLHBT) compared to standard 13-sample LHBT in the clinical setting.METHODS: Irritable bowel syndrome patients with diarrhea(IBS-D) and healthy volunteers(HVs) were enrolled and received a 10 g, 20 g, or 40 g doselactose hydrogen breath test(LHBT) in a randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial. The lactase gene promoter region was sequenced. Breath samples and symptoms were acquired at baseline and every 15 min for 3 h(13 measurements). The detection rates of lactose malabsorption(LM) and lactose intolerance(LI) for a 4SLHBT that acquired four measurements at 0, 90, 120, and 180 min from the same data set were compared with the results of standard LHBT.RESULTS: Sixty IBS-D patients and 60 HVs were studied. The genotype in all participants was C/C-13910. LM and LI detection rates increased with lactose dose from 10 g, 20 g to 40 g in both groups(P < 0.001). 4SLHBT showed excellent diagnostic concordance with standard LHBT(97%-100%, Kappa 0.815-0.942) with high sensitivity(90%-100%) and specificity(100%) at all three lactose doses in both groups.CONCLUSION: Reducing the number of measurements from 13 to 4 samples did not significantly impact on the accuracy of LHBT in health and IBS-D. 4SLHBT is a valid test for assessment of LM and LI in clinical practice. | Jian-Feng Yang Mark Fox Hua Chu Xia Zheng Yan-Qin Long Daniel Pohl Michael Fried Ning Dai | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,24: | 4 |

| 12 | Implantation of trabecular micro-bypass stent using a novel “landing strip” technique显示文摘AIM:To describe a novel technique of creating a landing strip within the trabecular meshwork to guide trabecular micro-bypass stent(iStent) implantation in patients who underwent phacoemulsification.METHODS:Thirty-four eyes from 30 patients who underwent i Stent implantation after phacoemulsification from May 2014 to February 2015 were included in our retrospective study. All iStents were implanted via the 'landing strip' technique. A 25-gauge microvitreoretinal blade was used to bisect the trabecular meshwork to less than 1 clock-hour, effectively creating a landing strip. The iStent applicator was pressed along the landing strip and then the stent was released into the trabecular meshwork. RESULTS:Of the 34 eyes with iStent implantation, 27(79.4%) eyes had primary open-angle glaucoma, 6(17.6%) eyes had pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, and 1(2.9%) eye had ocular hypertension. At 6-month follow-up(n=17), the mean number of hypotensive medications decreased from 2.2±1.2 at baseline to 0.8±1.3(P=0.05) and mean intraocular pressure decreased from 19.7±4.1 mm Hg at baseline to 16.7±2.1 mm Hg(P=0.58). Two eyes(5.9%) required subsequent trabeculectomy.
