Multi-omics analyses of 398 foxtail millet accessions reveal genomic regions associated with domestication, metabolite traits, and antiinflammatory effects显示文摘Foxtail millet(Setaria italica),which was domesticatedfromthewild speciesgreenfoxtail(Setaria viridis),isa richsource of phytonutrientsfor humans. To evaluate how breeding changed themetabolome offoxtail millet grains,we generated and analyzed the datasets encompassing the genomes, transcriptomes, metabolomes, and anti-inflammatory indices from 398 foxtail millet accessions. We identified hundreds of common variants that influence numerous secondary metabolites. We observed tremendous differences in natural variations of the metabolites and their underlying genetic architectures between distinct sub-groups of foxtail millet.Furthermore,we found that the selection of the gene alleles associated with yellow grains led to altered profiles of metabolites such as carotenoids and endogenous phytohormones.Using CRiSPR-mediated genome editing wevalidated the function of PHYTOENE SYNTHASE1(PSY1)gene in affecting milletgrain colorand quality.Interestingly, our in vitro cell inflammation assays showed that 83 metabolites in millet grains have anti-inflammatory effects.Taken together,ourmulti-omics study illustrates how the breeding history of foxtail millet has shaped its metabolite profile. The datasets we generated in this study also provide important resources for further understanding how millet grain quality is affected by different metabolites, laying the foundations for future millet genetic research and metabolome-assisted improvement. | Xukai Li Jianhua Gao Jingyi Song Kai Guo Siyu Hou Xingchun Wang Qiang He Yanyan Zhang Yakun Zhang Yulu Yang Jiaoyan Tang Hailang Wang Staffan Persson Mingquan Huang Lishuai Xu Linlin Zhong Dongqin Li Yongming Liu Hua Wu Xianmin Diao Peng Chen Xiaowen Wang Yuanhuai Han | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,8: | 8
Durability of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell response post SARS-CoV-2 infection显示文摘The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 19(COVID-19)is caused by a newly discoveredβcoronavirus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).How long the adaptive immunity triggered by SARS-CoV-2 can last is of critical clinical relevance in assessing the probability of second infection and efficacy of vaccination. Here we examined, using ELISA,the IgG antibodies in serum specimens collected from 17 COVID-19 patients at 6–7 months after diagnosis and the results were compared to those from cases investigated 2 weeks to 2 months post-infection.All samples were positive for IgGs against the S-and N-proteins of SARS-CoV-2.Notably,14 samples available at 6–7 months post-infection all showed significant neutralizing activities in a pseudovirus assay, with no difference in blocking the cell-entry of the 614D and 614G variants of SARS-CoV-2.Furthermore,in 10 blood samples from cases at 6–7 months post-infection used for memory T-cell tests,we found that interferonγ-producing CD4+and CD8+cells were increased upon SARS-CoV-2 antigen stimulation.Together, these results indicate that durable anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunity is common in convalescent population, and vaccines developed from 614D variant may offer protection from the currently predominant 614D variant of SARS-CoV-2. | Yun Tan Feng Liu Xiaoguang Xu Yun Ling Weijin Huang Zhaoqin Zhu Mingquan Guo Yixiao Lin Ziyu Fu Dongguo Liang Tengfei Zhang Jian Fan Miao Xu Hongzhou Lu Saijuan Chen | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6: | 6
Water resources utilization and eco-environmental safety in Northwest China显示文摘Northwest China includes Xinjiang Ugyur Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Shaanxi Province, covering 308×104 km2. It is located in the warm-temperate zone and the climate is arid or semi-arid. Precipitation is very scarce but evaporation is extremely high. The climate is dry, the water resources are deficient, the eco-environment is fragile, and the distribution of water resources is uneven. In this region, precipitation is the only input, and evaporation is the only output in the inland rivers, and precipitation, surface water and groundwater change with each other for many times, which benefits the storage and utilization of water resources. The average precipitation in this region is 232 mm, the total precipitation amount is 7003×108 m3/a, the surface water resources are 1891×108 m3/a, the total natural groundwater resources are 1150×108 m3/a, the total available water resources are 438×108 m3/a, and the total water resources are 1996×108 m3/a and per capita water resources are 2278 m3/a. The water resources of the whole area are 5.94×104 m3/(a.km2), being only one-fifth of the mean value in China. Now, the available water resources are 876×108 m3/a, among which groundwater is proximate 130×108 m3/a. | ZHANG Jishi XU Jinxiang ZHANG Yongqiu WANG Mingquan CHENG Zhongshan | 2006 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2006,16,3: | 6
An electrodeposition approach to metal/metal oxide heterostructures for active hydrogen evolution catalysts in near-neutral electrolytes显示文摘Neutral water splitting is attractive for its use of non-corrosive and environmentally friendly electrolytes. However, catalyst development for hydrogen and oxygen evolution remains a challenge under neutral conditions. Here we report a simple electrodeposition and reductive annealing procedure to produce a highly active Ni-Co-Cr metal/metal oxide heterostructured catalyst directly on Ni foam. The resulting electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) requires only 198 mV of overpotential to reach 100 mNcm2 in 1 M potassium phosphate (pH =7.4) and can operate for at least two days without significant performance decay.Scanning transmission electron microscopy coupled with electron energy loss spectroscopy (STEM-EELS) imaging reveals a Ni-Co alloy core decorated with blended oxides layers of NiO,CoO and Cr2O3.The metal/metal oxide interfaces are suggested to be responsible for the high HER activity. | Michael J.Kenney Jianan Erick Huang Yong Zhu Yongtao Meng Mingquan Xu Guanzhou Zhu Wei-Hsuan Hung Yun Kuang Mengchang Lin Xiaoming Sun Wu Zhou Hongjie Dai | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,6: | 4

Selective electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide at zigzag edges of exfoliated molybdenum telluride nanoflakes显示文摘The two-electron reduction of molecular oxygen represents an effective strategy to enable the green, mild and on-demand synthesis of hydrogen peroxide. Its practical viability, however, hinges on the development of advanced electrocatalysts, preferably composed of non-precious elements,to selectively expedite this reaction, particularly in acidic medium. Our study here introduces 2H-MoTe2 for the first time as the efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalyst for the electrochemical production ofhydrogen peroxide in acids. We show that exfoliated 2H-MoTe2 nanoflakes have high activity(onset overpotential〜140 mV and large mass activity of 27 A g^-1 at 0.4 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode),great selectivity(H2O2 percentage up to 93%)and decent stability in 0.5 M H2SO4.Theoretical simulations evidence that the high activity and selectivity of 2H-MoTe2 arise from the proper binding energies of HOO*and O*at its zigzag edges that jointly favor the two-electron reduction instead of the four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen. | Xuan Zhao Yu Wang Yunli Da Xinxia Wang Tingting Wang Mingquan Xu Xiaoyun He Wu Zhou Yafei Li Jonathan NColeman Yanguang Li | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,8: | 3
Femtosecond laser-induced periodic structures:mechanisms, techniques, and applications显示文摘Over the past two decades, femtosecond laser-induced periodic structures(femtosecond-LIPSs)have become ubiquitous in a variety of materials, including metals, semiconductors, dielectrics, and polymers.Femtosecond-LIPSs have become a useful laser processing method, with broad prospects in adjusting material properties such as structural color, data storage, light absorption, and luminescence. This review discusses the formation mechanism of LIPSs,specifically the LIPS formation processes based on the pump-probe imaging method. The pulse shaping of a femtosecond laser in terms of the time/frequency,polarization,and spatial distribution is an efficient method for fabricating high-quality LIPSs.Various LIPS applications are also briefly introduced. The last part of this paper discusses the LIPS formation mechanism,as well as the high-efficiency and high-quality processing of LIPSs using shaped ultrafast lasers and their applications. | Yuchan Zhang Qilin Jiang Mingquan Long Ruozhong Han Kaiqiang Cao Shian Zhang Donghai Feng Tianqing Jia Zhenrong Sun Jianrong Qiu Hongxing Xu | 2022 | Opto-Electronic Science2022,1,6: | 3

Intrusions of Kuroshio and Shelf Waters on Northern Slope of South China Sea in Summer 2015显示文摘The northern slope region of the South China Sea(SCS) is a biological hot spot characterized by high primary productivity and biomasses transported by cross-shelf currents, which support the spawning and growth of commercially and ecologically important fish species. To understand the physical and biogeochemical processes that promote the high primary production of this region, we conducted a cruise from June 10 and July 2, 2015. In this study, we used fuzzy cluster analysis and optimum multiparameter analysis methods to analyze the hydrographic data collected during the cruise to determine the compositions of the upper 55-m water masses on the SCS northern slope and thereby elucidate the cross-slope transport of shelf water(SHW) and the intrusions of Kuroshio water(KW). We also analyzed the geostrophic currents derived from acoustic Doppler current profiler measurements and satellite data. The results reveal the surface waters on the northern slope of the SCS to be primarily composed of waters originating from South China Sea water(SCSW), KW, and SHW. The SCSW dominated a majority of the study region at percentages ranging between 60% and 100%. We found a strong cross-slope current with speeds greater than 50 cms^(-1) to have carried SHW into and through the surveyed slope area, and KW to have intruded onto the slope via mesoscale eddies, thereby dominating the southwestern section of the study area. | LI Denghui ZHOU Meng ZHANG Zhaoru ZHONG Yisen ZHU Yiwu YANG Chenghao XU Mingquan XU Dongfeng HU Ziyuan | 2018 | Journal of Ocean University of China2018,17,3: | 2
Effects of Power Inversion Spatial Only Adaptive Array on GNSS Receiver Measurements显示文摘The Spatial Only Processing Power Inversion(SOP-PI) algorithm is frequently used in Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) adaptive array receivers for interference mitigation because of its simplicity of implementation. This study investigates the effects of SOP-PI on receiver measurements for high-precision applications. Mathematical deductions show that if an array with a centro-symmetrical geometry is used, ideally,SOP-PI is naturally bias-free; however, this no longer stands when non-ideal factors, including array perturbations and finite-sample effect, are added. Simulations are performed herein to investigate how exactly the array perturbations affect the carrier phase biases, while diagonal loading and forward-backward averaging are proposed to counter the finite-sample effect. In conclusion, whether SOP-PI with a centro-symmetrical array geometry will satisfy the high precision demands mainly depends on the array perturbation degree of the element amplitude and the phase center. | Hailong Xu Xiaowei Cui Mingquan Lu | 2018 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2018,23,2: | 1
Host protection against Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages by prior vaccination in spring 2022 COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai显示文摘The Omicron family of SARS-CoV-2 variants are currently driving the COVID-19 pandemic. Here we analyzed the clinical laboratory test results of 9911 Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages-infected symptomatic patients without earlier infection histories during a SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Shanghai in spring 2022.Compared to an earlier patient cohort infected by SARS-CoV-2 prototype strains in 2020,BA.2.2 infection led to distinct fluctuations of pathophysiological markers in the peripheral blood. In particular,severe/critical cases of COVID19 post BA.2.2 infection were associated with less pro-inflammatory macrophage activation and stronger interferon alpha response in the bronchoalveolar microenvironment.Importantly, the abnormal biomarkers were significantly subdued in individuals who had been immunized by 2 or 3 doses of SARS-CoV-2 prototypeinactivated vaccines, supporting the estimation of an overall 96.02% of protection rate against severe/critical disease in the 4854 cases in our BA.2.2 patient cohort with traceable vaccination records.Furthermore, even though age was a critical risk factor of the severity of COVID-19 post BA.2.2 infection,vaccination-elicited protection against severe/critical COVID-19 reached 90.15% in patients aged≥60 years old.Together, our study delineates the pathophysiological features of Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages and demonstrates significant protection conferred by prior prototype-based inactivated vaccines. | Ziyu Fu Dongguo Liang Wei Zhang Dongling Shi Yuhua Ma Dong Wei Junxiang Xi Sizhe Yang Xiaoguang Xu Di Tian Zhaoqing Zhu Mingquan Guo Lu Jiang Shuting Yu Shuai Wang Fangyin Jiang Yun Ling Shengyue Wang Saijuan Chen Feng Liu Yun Tan Xiaohong Fan | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,3: | 1
ANALYSIS ON PECULIARITIES OF '92.8'FLOOD EVENTIN THE LOWER YELLOW RIVER显示文摘From 7~th through 13~th, August, 1992, a series of heavy rainstorms took place in Shaanxi province. The rainfall moved from the north to the south in sequence, resulting in flood events in tributaries of the Middle Yelow River, such as Huangfuchuan, Kuye, Wuding, Yanhe, Beiluo, Jinhe and Weihe rivers. These floods, converged from various tributaries, propagated downstream and formed four continuing flood crests at Huayuankou Hydrometric Station in the Lower Yellow River with a max. peak discharge of 6260m^3/s, which is referred as '92.8' flood. Although the peak discharge of 6260m^3/s is a frequent one for the Lower Yelow Rived, the water stage reached 94.33m, the second record of the station, even 0.34m higher than that in 1982 when the peak discharge was 15300 m^3/s. The '92.8' flood brought about a lot of damages, including inundation of 40000 ha of farmland on the floodplain of the Lower Yellow Rived The extremely high water stage, occurred in Huayuankou Hydrometric Station was caused directly by the previous deposition in main channel and unfavorable combination of incoming flow and sediment regime. But the primary cause is the change in incoming runoff and sediment load in the Lower Yellow River. Since the middle of 1980’s remarkable reduction has taken place both in runoff and sediment load, and to some extent becomes definitely a tendency in furture. As some unforeseen troubles in flood control in Lower Yellow River might occur, more attention should be paid for it. | WANG Gang XU Mingquan (1,2 International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES), P.O. | 13 | The Effect of Different Freeze-Thaw Cycles on Mortar Gas Permeability and Pore Structure显示文摘Two different freeze-thaw cycles(FTC)are considered in this study to assess the related impact on gas permeability and micro-pore structure of a mortar. These are the water-freezing/water-thawing(WF-WT)and the air-freezing/air-thawing(AF-AT)cycles.The problem is addressed experimentally through an advanced nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)technique able to provide meaningful information on the relationships among gas permeability, pore structure, mechanical properties, and the number of cycles. It is shown that the mortar gas permeability increases with the number of FTCs,the increase factor being 20 and 12.83 after 40 cycles for the WF-WT and AF-AT,respectively.The results also confirm that gas permeability hysteresis phenomena occur during the confining pressure loading and unloading process. | Wei Chen Ao Xu Hejun Zhang Mingquan Sheng Yue Liang Frederic Skoczylas | 2023 | Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2023,19,6: | 0
Efficient Signal Separation Method Based on Antenna Arrays for GNSS Meaconing显示文摘As an effective deceptive interference technique for military navigation signals, meaconing can be divided into two main types: those that replay directly and those that replay after signal separation. The latter can add different delays to each satellite signal and mislead the victim receiver with respect to any designated position, thus has better controllability and concealment capability. A previous study showed there to be two main spatial processing techniques for separating military signals, whereby either multiple large-caliber antennas or antenna arrays are used to form multiple beams that align with all visible satellites. To ensure sufficient spatial resolution, the main lobe width of the antenna or beam must be sufficiently narrow, which requires the use of a large antenna aperture or a large number of array elements. In this paper, we propose a convenient and effective signal separation method, which is based on an antenna array with fewer elements. While the beam of the array is pointing to a specified satellite, the other satellite signals are regarded as interference and their power is suppressed to a level below the receiver's sensitivity. With this method, the number of array elements depends only on the number of visible satellites, thus greatly reducing the hardware cost and required processing capacity. | Jiaqi Zhang Xiaowei Cui Hailong Xu Sihao Zhao Mingquan Lu | 2019 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2019,24,2: | 0
Integrated analysis of gut microbiome and host immune responses in COVID-19显示文摘Emerging evidence indicates that the gut microbiome contributes to the host immune response to infectious diseases. Here,to explore the role of the gut microbiome in the host immune responses in COVID-19,we conducted shotgun metagenomic sequencing and immune profiling of 14 severe/critical and 24 mild/moderate COVID-19 cases as well as 31 healthy control samples. We found that the diversity of the gut microbiome was reduced in severe/critical COVID-19 cases compared to mild/moderate ones.We identified the abundance of some gut microbes altered post-SARS-CoV-2 infection and related to disease severity, such as Enterococcus faecium,Coprococcus comes,Roseburia intestinalis,Akkermansia ntuciniphila,Bacteroides cellulosilyticus and Blautia obeum. We further analyzed the correlation between the abundance of gut microbes and host responses, and obtained a correlation map between clinical features of COVID-19 and 16 severity-related gut microbe, including Coprococcus comes that was positively correlated with CD3^(+)/CD4^(+)/CD8^(+)lymphocyte counts. In addition,an integrative analysis of gut microbiome and the transcriptome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)showed that genes related to viral transcription and apoptosis were up-regulated in Coprococcus comes low samples. Moreover,a number of metabolic pathways in gut microbes were also found to be differentially enriched in severe/critical or mild/moderate COVID-19 cases, including the superpathways of polyamine biosynthesis II and sulfur oxidation that were suppressed in severe/critical COVID-19.Together,our study highlighted a potential regulatory role of severity related gut microbes in the immune response of host. | Xiaoguang Xu Wei Zhang Mingquan Guo Chenlu Xiao Ziyu Fu Shuting Yu Lu Jiang Shengyue Wang Yun Ling Feng Liu Yun Tan Saijuan Chen | 2022 | Frontiers of Medicine2022,16,2: | 0

Evaluation of the submarine debris-flow hazard risks to planned subsea pipeline systems: a case study in the Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea显示文摘The ever-increasing deepwater oil and gas development in the Qiongdongnan Basin,South China Sea has initiated the need to evaluate submarine debris-flow hazard risks to seafloor infrastructures. This paper presents a case study on evaluating the debris-flow hazard risks to the planned pipeline systems in this region. We used a numerical model to perform simulations to support this quantitative evaluation.First, one relict failure interpreted across the development site was simulated. The back-analysis modeling was used to validate the applicability of the rheological parameters. Then, this model was applied to forecast the runout behaviors of future debris flows originating from the unstable upslope regions considered to be the most critical to the pipeline systems surrounding the Manifolds A and B.The model results showed that the potential debris-flow hazard risks rely on the location of structures and the selection of rheological parameters. For the Manifold B and connected pipeline systems, because of their remote distances away from unstable canyon flanks, the potential debris flows impose few risks. However, the pipeline systems around the Manifold A are exposed to significant hazard risks from future debris flows with selected rheological parameters. These results are beneficial for the design of a more resilient pipeline route in consideration of future debris-flow hazard risks. | Mingquan Huang Xuesheng Qian Jingping Xu Xuecheng Li | 2023 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2023,42,5: | 0
Bandgap opening in MoTe2 thin flakes induced by surface oxidation显示文摘Recently, the layered transition metal dichalcogenide 1T′-MoTe2 has generated considerable interest due to their superconducting and non-trivial topological properties. Here,we present a systematic study on 1T′-MoTe2 single-crystal and exfoliated thin-flakes by means of electrical transport, scanning tunnelling microscope(STM)measurements and band structure calculations. For a bulk sample,it exhibits large magneto-resistance(MR)and Shubnikov–de Hass oscillations inρxx and a series of Hall plateaus inρxy at low temperatures.Meanwhile, the MoTe2 thin films were intensively investigated with thickness dependence. For samples, without encapsulation,an apparent transition from the intrinsic metallic to insulating state is observed by reducing thickness. In such thin films,we also observed a suppression of the MR and weak anti-localization(WAL)effects.We attributed these effects to disorders originated from the extrinsic surface chemical reaction, which is consistent with the density functional theory(DFT)calculations and in-situ STM results. In contrast to samples without encapsulated protection,we discovered an interesting superconducting transition for those samples with hexagonal Boron Nitride(h-BN)film protection. Our results indicate that the metallic or superconducting behavior is its intrinsic state, and the insulating behavior is likely caused by surface oxidation in few layer 1T’-MoTe2 flakes. | Yuan Gan Jiyuan Liang Chang-woo Cho Si Li Yanping Guo Xiaoming Ma Xuefeng Wu Jinsheng Wen Xu Du Mingquan He Chang Liu Shengyuan A.Yang Kedong Wang Liyuan Zhang | 2020 | Frontiers of physics2020,15,3: | 0
Atomically dispersed lr/α-MoC catalyst with high metal loading and thermal stability for water-promoted hydrogenation reaction显示文摘Synthesis of atomically dispersed catalysts with high metal loading and thermal stability is challenging but particularly valuable for industrial application in heterogeneous catalysis. Here,we report a facile synthesis of a thermally stable atomically dispersed Ir/α-MoC catalyst with metal loading as high as 4 wt%,an unusually high value for carbide supported metal catalysts. The strong interaction between Ir and theα-MoC substrate enables high dispersion of Ir on the α-MoC surface, and modulates the electronic structure of the supported Ir species.Using quinoline hydrogenation as a model reaction,we demonstrate that this atomically dispersed Ir/α-MoC catalyst exhibits remarkable reactivity, selectivity and stability, for which the presence of high-density isolated Ir atoms is the key to achieving high metal-normalized activity and mass-specific activity. We also show that the water-promoted quinoline hydrogenation mechanism is preferred over the Ir/α-MoC,and contributes to high sele ctivity towards 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline.The present work demonstrates a new strategy in constructing a high-loading atomically dispersed catalyst for the hydrogenation reaction. | Siwei Li Ruochen Cao Mingquan Xu Yuchen Deng Lili Lin Siyu Yao Xuan Liang Mi Peng Zirui Gao Yuzhen Ge Jin-Xun Liu Wei-Xue Li Wu Zhou Ding Ma | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,1: | 0
