Stability Limitation and Analytical Evaluation of Voltage Droop Controllers for VSC MTDC显示文摘This paper presents a systematic analysis of DC voltage stability of a multi-terminal VSC-HVDC(MTDC)system,with the emphasis on a comparative study of the most ubiquitous droop control configurations. The paper introduces a general framework for the analysis of various droop control configurations employed in MTDC systems. This framework is then used to compare leading droop control configurations in terms of their impact on the relative stability, performance and robustness of the overall MTDC system.A generalized analytical MTDC model that contains detailed models of AC and DC system components is derived.Limitations imposed by DC power flow,DC inductor, cable modeling and AC network impedance on DC system stability are identified.Classical and multivariable frequency response analysis and eigenvalue analysis are applied to open-loop and closed-loop models to compare the stability and robustness of five leading droop controllers, with the focus on feedback signal selection and controller parameterization. This paper also proposes an active stabilizing controller, which takes the form of a modified constant power control,to enhance the controllability and robustness of the DC voltage control.Wenyuan Wang Mike Barnes Ognjen Marjanovic 2018CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2018,4,2:34

Changing Forestry Policy by Integrating Water Aspects into Forest/Vegetation Restoration in Dryland Areas in China显示文摘Restoration forestry (forest rehabilitation) or re-vegetation is one effective measure to solve environmental problems, notably soil erosion. It may be further stimulated by the Clean Development Mechanism for carbon sequestration. However, there is an intensive and on-going debate about the adverse effects arising from afforestation in dryland areas, such as soil drying up which may cause further damage to the success of forest restoration, and the water yield reduction from watershed which may harm the regional development. On other hand, some preliminary studies showed a possibility that these adverse effects may be diminished more or less by properly designing the system structure and spatial distribution of forest/vegetation in a watershed. However, it is urgent to develop an evidence-based and sustainable new forestry policy for harmonizing forest-water interrelation. As a leading country in afforestation, China is beginning to develop a more trans-disciplinary and cross-sectoral forestry policy for harmonizing forestry development with water management. The main points of the changing new forestry policy should include: (1) Establishing a regional development strategy focusing on harmonized forest-water relations; (2) Taking forest-water interactions as an important part of evaluation; (3) Reducing the 'eco-water' quota of forests through technical advancement; (4) Developing and extending water-adaptive forest management practices; (5) Strengthening forest ecohydrological research and decision support ability.WANG Yanhui Mike Bonell Karl-Heinz Feger YU Pengtao XIONG Wei XU Lihong 2012Bulletin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences2012,26,1:9

Short-term Exposure to Fine Particles and Risk of Cause-Specific Mortality--China,2013-2018显示文摘What is already known about this topic?Short-term exposure to PM2.5 has been associated with population excess death. This issue is of critical concern in China given its high level of exposure to PM2.5 compared to that of the rest of the world. What is added by this report?Existing studies were conducted from 2013-2015 and have failed to capture the full effects of China’s actions towards cleaner air in recent years, such as the first Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control issued in 2013.This study uses the longest time series data to date from 2013-2018,provides the latest evidence on PM2.5 and cause-specific death nationwide, and identifies regional patterns of PM2.5-related effects as well as PM2.5-related susceptible populations. What are the implications for public health practice? This study suggests that the development of standards and the implementation of actions to clean the air and protect public health should be tailored to PM2.5-related sensitive diseases, susceptible populations, and regional patterns.Chen Chen Tiantian Li Lijun Wang Jinlei Qi Wangying Shi Mike Z He Qinghua Sun Jiaonan Wang Huanhuan Zhu Xiaoming Shi 2019China CDC weekly2019,1,1:5
cffdrs: an R package for the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System显示文摘Introduction:The Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System(CFFDRS)is a globally known wildland fire risk assessment system, and two major components, the fire weather index system and the fire behavior prediction system, have been extensively used both nationally and internationally to aid operational wildland fire decision making. Methods:In this paper,we present an overview of an R package cffdrs, which is developed to calculate components of the CFFDRS,and highlight some of its functionality. In particular,we demonstrate how these functions could be used for large data analysis. Results and Discussion:With this cffdrs package,we provide a portal for not only a collection of R functions dealing with all available components in CFFDRS but also a platform for various additional developments that are useful for the understanding of fire occurrence and behavior. This is the first time that all relevant CFFDRS methods are incorporated into the same platform, which can be accessed by both the management and research communities.Xianli Wang B.Mike Wotton Alan S.Cantin Marc-AndréParisien Kerry Anderson Brett Moore Mike D.Flannigan 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:4

Chinese Antarctic Magnetometer Chain at the Cusp Latitude显示文摘A Chinese Antarctic Magnetometer(CAM) chain from Zhongshan Station(ZHS) to Dome-A(DMA) has been established since February 2009.A regular magnetometer is operated at ZHS,and four low power magnetometers are operated along the interior route from ZHS to DMA in the cusp latitude, extending over a distance of 1260 km.These stations fill an important void in the Antarctic magnetometer network.Furthermore, the CAM chain is magnetically conjugated with the Arctic region reaching from the Svalbard archipelago to Daneborg,on the east coast of Greenland.Conjugate measurements using the Arctic and Antarctic magnetometers provide excellent opportunities to investigate phenomena related to the coupling of the solar wind to the magnetosphere and ionosphere, such as magnetic impulse events, flux transfer events, traveling convection vortices and ultra-low frequency waves.LIU Yonghua HU Hongqiao YANG Huigen ZHANG Beichen SUN Bo WEI Fuhai LIU Yang LIU Jianjun WANG Rui CHEN Zhuotian HU Zejun HAN Desheng SHI Guitao HU Zhengyi WANG Tao AN Chunlei Mike Rose 2016Advances in Polar Science2016,27,2:2
Spatiotemporal variation in forest fire danger from 1996 to 2010 in Jilin Province,China显示文摘We evaluated the spatial and temporal patterns of forest fires in two fire seasons(March to June and September to November) from 1996 to 2010 in Jilin Province,China, using the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index System.Fire data were obtained from the Provincial Fire Agency, and historical climate records of daily weather observations were collected from 36 weather stations in Jilin and its neighboring provinces.A linear regression model was used to analyze linear trends between climate and fire weather indices with time treated as an independent variable.Correlation analysis was used to detect correlations between fire frequency, areas burned, and fire weather indices.A thin-plate smooth spline model was used to interpolate the point data of 36 weather stations to generate a surface covering the whole province. Our analyses indicated fire frequency and areas burned were significantly correlated with fire weather indices.Overall, the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index System appeared to be work well for determining the fire danger rating in Jilin Province. Also, our analyses indicated that in the forthcoming decades, the overall fire danger in March and April should decrease across the province, but the chance of a large fire in these months would increase. The fire danger in the fall fire season would increase in the future, and the chance of large fire would also increase.Historically, because most fires have occurred in the spring in Jilin Province, such a shift in the future fire danger between the two fire seasons would be beneficial for the province's fire management.Yanlong Shan Yonghe Wang Mike Flannigan Shuyuan Tang Pingyan Sun Fengguo Du 2017Journal of Forestry Research2017,28,5:2
Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Area Coverage and Observation Geometry of the MISR Land-surface BRF Product: A Case Study of the Central Part of Northeast Asia显示文摘The Multi-angle imaging spectroradiometer(MISR) land-surface(LS) bidirectional reflectance factor(BRF) product(MILS_BRF) has unique semi-simultaneous multi-angle sampling and global coverage. However, unlike on-satellite observations, the spatio-temporal characteristics of MILS_BRF data have rarely been explicitly and comprehensively analysed. Results from 5-yr(2011–2015) of MILS_BRF dataset from a typical region in central Northeast Asia as the study area showed that the monthly area coverage as well as MILS_BRF data quantity varies significantly, from the highest in October(99.05%) through median in June/July(78.09%/75.21%) to lowest in January(18.97%), and a large data-vacant area exists in the study area during four consecutive winter months(December through March). The data-vacant area is mainly composed of crop lands and cropland/natural vegetation mosaic. The amount of data within the principal plane(PP)±30°(nPP) or cross PP ±30°(nCP), varies intra-annually with significant differences from different view zeniths or forward/backward scattering directions. For example, multiple off-nadir cameras have nPP but no nCP data for up to six months(September through February), with the opposite occurring in June and July. This study provides explicit and comprehensive information about the spatio-temporal characteristics of product coverage and observation geometry of MILS_BRF in the study area. Results provide required user reference information for MILS_BRF to evaluate performance of BRDF models or to compare with other satellite-derived BRF or albedo products. Comparing this final product to on-satellite observations, what was found here reveals a new perspective on product spatial coverage and observation geometry for multi-angle remote sensing.LI Jian CHEN Shengbo QIN Wenhan Mike MUREFU WANG Yufei YU Yan ZHEN Zhijun 2019Chinese Geographical Science2019,29,4:1
