2Building a sequence map of the pig pan-genome from multiple de novo assemblies and Hi-C data显示文摘Pigs were domesticated independently in the Near East and China,indicating that a single reference genome from one individual is unable to represent the full spectrum of divergent sequences in pigs worldwide.Therefore,12 de novo pig assemblies from Eurasia were compared in this study to identify the missing sequences from the reference genome.As a result,72.5 Mb of nonredundant sequences(~3% of the genome)were found to be absent from the reference genome(Sscrofa11.1)and were defined as pan-sequences.Of the pan-sequences,9.0 Mb were dominant in Chinese pigs,in contrast with their low frequency in European pigs.One sequence dominant in Chinese pigs contained the complete genic region of the tazarotene-induced gene 3(TIG3)gene which is involved in fatty acid metabolism.Using flanking sequences and Hi-C based methods,27.7% of the sequences could be anchored to the reference genome.The supplementation of these sequences could contribute to the accurate interpretation of the 3D chromatin structure.A web-based pan-genome database was further provided to serve as a primary resource for exploration of genetic diversity and promote pig breeding and biomedical research.Xiaomeng Tian Ran Li Weiwei Fu Yan Li Xihong Wang Ming Li Duo Du Qianzi Tang Yudong Cai Yiming Long Yue Zhao Mingzhou Li Yu Jiang 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,5:7
3Characterization particulate matter from several Chinese cooking dishes and implications in health effects显示文摘Cooking fume produced by oil and food at a high temperature releases large amount of fine particulate matter(PM) which have a potential hazard to human health. This chamber study investigated particle emission characteristics originated from using four types of oil(soybean oil, olive oil, peanut oil and lard) and different kinds of food materials(meat and vegetable). The corresponding emission factors(EFs) of number, mass, surface area and volume for particles were discussed. Temporal variation of size-fractionated particle concentration showed that olive oil produced the highest number PM concentration for the entire cooking process. Multiple path particle dosimetry(MPPD) model was performed to predict deposition in the human respiratory tract. Results showed that the pulmonary airway deposition fraction was the largest. It was also found that particles produced from olive oil led to the highest deposition. 4An analytical solution for the population balance equation using a moment method显示文摘Brownian coagulation is the most important inter-particle mechanism affecting the size distribution of aerosols.Analytical solutions to the governing population balance equation(PBE) remain a challenging issue.In this work,we develop an analytical model to solve the PBE under Brownian coagulation based on the Taylor-expansion method of moments.The proposed model has a clear advantage over conventional asymptotic models in both precision and efficiency.We first analyze the geometric standard deviation(GSD) of aerosol size distribution.The new model is then implemented to determine two analytic solutions,one with a varying GSD and the other with a constant GSD.The varying solution traces the evolution of the size distribution,whereas the constant case admits a decoupled solution for the zero and second moments.Both solutions are confirmed to have the same precision as the highly reliable numerical model,implemented by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm,and the analytic model requires significantly less computational time than the numerical approach.Our results suggest that the proposed model has great potential to replace the existing numerical model,and is thus recommended for the study of physical aerosol characteristics,especially for rapid predictions of haze formation and evolution.Mingzhou Yu Jianzhong Lin Junji Cao Martin Seipenbusch 2015Particuology2015,13,1:4

6Asymptotic behavior of the Taylor-expansion method of moments for solving a coagulation equation for Brownian particles显示文摘The evolution equations of moments for the Brownian coagulation of nanoparticles in both continuum and free molecule regimes are analytically studied.These equations are derived using a Taylor-expansion technique.The self-preserving size distribution is investigated using a newly defined dimensionless parameter,and the asymptotic values for this parameter are theoretically determined.The dimensionless time required for an initial size distribution to achieve self-preservation is also derived in both regimes.Once the size distribution becomes self-preserving,the time evolution of the zeroth and second moments can be theoretically obtained,and it is found that the second moment varies linearly with time in the continuum regime.Equivalent equations,rather than the original ones from which they are derived,can be employed to improve the accuracy of the results and reduce the computational cost for Brownian coagulation in the continuum regime as well as the free molecule regime.Zhongli Chen Jianzhong Lin Mingzhou Yu 2014Particuology2014,12,3:2
7Rice FLOURY ENDOSPERM 18 encodes a pentatricopeptide repeat protein required for 5′ processing of mitochondrial nad5 messenger RNA and endosperm development显示文摘Pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) proteins, composing one of the largest protein families in plants,are involved in RNA binding and regulation of organelle RNA metabolism at the posttranscriptional level. Although several PPR proteins have been implicated in endosperm development in rice(Oryza sativa), the molecular functions of many PPRs remain obscure. Here, we identified a rice endosperm mutant named floury endosperm 18(flo18) with pleiotropic defects in both reproductive and vegetative development.Map-based cloning and complementation tests showed that FLO18 encodes a mitochondriontargeted P-type PPR protein with 15 PPR motifs.Mitochondrial function was disrupted in the flo18 mutant, as evidenced by decreased assembly of Complex I in the mitochondrial electron transport chain and altered mitochondrial morphology. Loss of FLO18 function resulted in defective 5′-end processing of mitochondrial nad5 transcripts encoding subunit 5 of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogenase. 18Large Eddy Simulation of the Particle Coagulation in High Concentration Particle-Laden Planar Jet Flow显示文摘Particle coagulation by Brownian motion is an important but difficult research topic.When particle volume concentration is larger than 0.1%,the classic SMOLUCHOWSKI equation is not applicative anymore.The high concentration coagulation,with HEINE's correction,source terms for the Taylor-series expansion method of moments(TEMOM) are firstly driven in this paper.Ultra-fine particle(d0?100 mm) with initial volume fraction f?1% coagulation in a planar jet turbulence flow is simulated via the large eddy simulation(LES).The instantaneous and time-averaged particle distributions and the high concentration enhancement are given out.The particle number concentration distribution results show that the coagulation is more intense comparing to dilute case in previous research,especially near the nozzle exit.After jet flow is fully developed,the effect is much more obvious at the region between vortexes.The time-averaged γ(the high concentration enhance factor) distributes sharply and symmetrically about the jet centerline at the upstream,but becomes broad and flat at downstream where the cross-stream averaged γ fluctuates drastically.As a new attempt,this paper shows Brownian coagulation with high concentration also can be calculated via TEMOM appropriately,and the coagulation at the region between vortexes is about 1.38 times intensive of the dilute result calculated by the classic Smoluchowski theory.LIN Peifeng WU Dichong YU Mingzhou WANG Chao ZHANG Lite ZHU Zefei 2011Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2011,24,6:0
19Interannual variability and climatic sensitivity of global wildfire activity显示文摘Understanding historical wildfire variations and their environmental driving mechanisms is key to predicting and mitigating wildfires. However, current knowledge of climatic responses and regional contributions to the interannual variability (IAV) of global burned area remains limited. Using recent satellite-derived wildfire products and simulations from version v1.0 of the land component of the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM land model [ELM] v1) driven by three different climate forcings, we investigated the burned area IAV and its climatic sensitivity globally and across nine biomes from 1997 to 2018. We found that 1) the ELM simulations generally agreed with the satellite observations in terms of the burned area IAV magnitudes, regional contributions, and covariations with climate factors, confirming the robustness of the ELM to the usage of different climate forcing sources;2) tropical savannas, tropical forests, and semi-arid grasslands near deserts were primary contributors to the global burned area IAV, collectively accounting for 71.7%–99.7% of the global wildfire IAV estimated by both the satellite observations and ELM simulations;3) precipitation was a major fire suppressing factor and dominated the global and regional burned area IAVs, and temperature and shortwave solar radiation were mostly positively related with burned area IAVs;and 4) noticeable local discrepancies between the ELM and remote-sensing results occurred in semi-arid grasslands, croplands, boreal forests, and wetlands, likely caused by uncertainties in the current ELM fire scheme and the imperfectly derived satellite observations.
