Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare:Review and Prediction Case Studies显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)has been developing rapidly in recent years in terms of software algorithms, hardware implementation, and applications in a vast number of areas. In this review,we summarize the latest developments of applications of AI in biomedicine, including disease diagnostics, living assistance, biomedical information processing, and biomedical research. The aim of this review is to keep track of new scientific accomplishments,to understand the availability of technologies,to appreciate the tremendous potential of AI in biomedicine, and to provide researchers in related fields with inspiration. It can be asserted that, just like AI itself, the application of AI in biomedicine is still in its early stage.New progress and breakthroughs will continue to push the frontier and widen the scope of AI application, and fast developments are envisioned in the near future. Two case studies are provided to illustrate the prediction of epileptic seizure occurrences and the filling of a dysfunctional urinary bladder. | Guoguang Rong Arnaldo Mendez Elie Bou Assi Bo Zhao Mohamad Sawan | 2020 | Engineering2020,6,3: | 7

Enhanced trimeric ACE2 exhibits potent prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy against the SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron variants in vivo显示文摘Dear Editor,The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has resulted in a severe global pandemic that has lasted for more than two years.1 Several vaccines were developed at an unprecedented speed to protect billions of people.2 Many monoclonal antibodies have also been discovered, several of which are in the clinical stages.3 However, limited vaccine availability and vaccine hesitancy compromise the impact of vaccines. The continuous evolution of SARS-CoV-2 has also resulted in many variants that can escape immunity, reducing the effects of vaccines and antibodies.4 With more than 30 mutations in the spike protein, the Omicron variant escapes the majority of existing antibodies and extensively evades vaccine-induced immunity.5,6 Thus, therapeutics that are broadly effective against current and future emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants are still highly desirable. | Mengjiao Li Zi-Wei Ye Kaiming Tang Liang Guo Wenwen Bi Yuyuan Zhang Yan-dong Tang Guoguang Rong Mohamad Sawan Xin Yin Ren Sun Shuofeng Yuan Bobo Dang | 2022 | Cell Research2022,32,6: | 1

Towards wearable and implantable continuous drug monitoring:A review显示文摘Continuous drug monitoring is a promising alternative to current therapeutic drug monitoring strategies and has a strong potential to reshape our understanding of pharmacokinetic variability and to improve individualised therapy. This review highlights recent advances in biosensing technologies that support continuous drug monitoring in real time.We focus primarily on aptamer-based biosensors, wearable and implantable devices.Emphasis is given to the approaches employed in constructing biosensors. We pay attention to sensors’biocompatibility, calibration performance,long-term characteristics stability and measurement quality.Last,we discuss the current challenges and issues to be addressed in continuous drug monitoring to make it a promising, future tool for individualised therapy. The ongoing efforts are expected to result in fully integrated implantable drug biosensing technology. Thus,we may anticipate an era of advanced healthcare in which wearable and implantable biochips will automatically adjust drug dosing in response to patient health conditions, thus enabling the management of diseases and enhancing individualised therapy. | Sumin Bian Bowen Zhu Guoguang Rong Mohamad Sawan | 2021 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2021,11,1: | 0
Biosensors for waterborne virus detection: Challenges and strategies显示文摘Waterborne viruses that can be harmful to human health pose significant challenges globally, affecting health care systems and the economy.Identifying these waterborne pathogens is essential for preventing diseases and protecting public health. However, handling complex samples such as human and wastewater can be challenging due to their dynamic and complex composition and the ultralow concentration of target analytes. This review presents a comprehensive overview of the latest breakthroughs in waterborne virus biosensors. It begins by highlighting several promising strategies that enhance the sensing performance of optical and electrochemical biosensors in human samples. These strategies include optimizing bioreceptor selection, transduction elements, signal amplification, and integrated sensing systems.Furthermore, the insights gained from biosensing waterborne viruses in human samples are applied to improve biosensing in wastewater, with a particular focus on sampling and sample pretreatment due to the dispersion characteristics of waterborne viruses in wastewater. This review suggests that implementing a comprehensive system that integrates the entire waterborne virus detection process with high-accuracy analysis could enhance virus monitoring. These findings provide valuable insights for improving the effectiveness of waterborne virus detection, which could have significant implications for public health and environmental management. | Xixi Song Zina Fredj Yuqiao Zheng Hongyong Zhang Guoguang Rong Sumin Bian Mohamad Sawan | 2023 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2023,13,11: | 0
Emerging trends of integrated-mixed-signal chips in ISSCC 2023显示文摘In February 2023,the annual‘Olympic’of the chip industry,ISSCC,returned to in-person meetings in San Francisco. As shown in Fig.1,from the ISSCC 2023,we can see that the trend in IC design has shifted from pure digital to mixed-signal design, particularly in areas such as AI accelerator chips and quantum computing.Chips have also evolved from integrated circuits to integrated chips through modulelevel,function-level,and chip-level fusion, with compute-inmemory being the best embodiment of module-level and function-level fusion. Moreover, quantum computing was one of the major focuses of this ISSCC edition, with a separate paper session dedicated to cryo-CMOS for quantum computing. | Jinbo Chen Jie Yang Mohamad Sawan | 2023 | Journal of Semiconductors2023,44,5: | 0
