1Optimization and kinetic studies for enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation of colocynthis vulgaris Shrad seeds shell for bioethanol production显示文摘The key process parameters for the hydrolysis and fermentation of Colocynthis vulgaris Shrad seeds shell(CVSSS)were optimized using the Box-Behnken Design(BBD)of Response Surface Methodology(RSM).Kinetic study was also carried out.The proximate analysis of the CVSSS was done by the method of the Association of Organic and Applied Chemistry(AOAC).Enzymatic hydrolysis was experimented by using Aspergillus Niger as a crude enzyme isolated from soil at sawdust dump site and screened for cellulosic activities.Factors that affected the hydrolysis of the CVSSS were screened by using the Greco-Latin square design of experiment.However,for Saccharomyces cerevisiae,factors that affected the fermentation of the CVSSS were screened by using the same Greco-Latin square design of experiment.Meanwhile,the result of the proximate analysis revealed that the CVSSS had 73.54%cellulose which could be converted to bioethanol.It was established that temperature,pH and time had significant effect on hydrolysis,while the optimum results were obtained at 46.8℃,3.32 d,5.68 and 59.87%for temperature,time,pH and glucose yield,respectively.Temperature,yeast dosage,pH and time had significant effect on fermentation,while the optimum results from optimization were found to be 33.58℃,7.0,3.55 d,1.65 g per 50 mL and 25.6%for temperature,pH,time,yeast dosage and ethanol yield,respectively.The kinetics of both the enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation agreed with the Michealis-Menten kinetic model with the correlation coefficients(R^(2))of 0.9708 and 0.8773,respectively.However,from the error analysis,the experimental and predicted values had a very good relationship as described by Michaelis-Menten model.Igwilo Christopher Nnaemeka Egbuna Samuel O Onoh Maxwell I Asadu OChristain Onyekwulu Chinelo S 2021Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2021,6,1:3

4Accessibility and utilization of healthcare services among diabetic patients:Is diabetes a poor man’s ailment?显示文摘Diabetes is a non-communicable ailment that has adverse effects on the individual’s overall well-being and productivity in society.The main objective of this study was to examine the empirical literature concerning the association between diabetes and poverty and the accessibility and utilization of medical care services among diabetic patients.The diabetes literature was explored using a literature review approach.This review revealed that diabetes is an ailment that affects all individuals irrespective of socioeconomic status;however,its prevalence is high in low-income countries.Hence,despite the higher prevalence of diabetes in developing countries compared with developed countries,diabetes is not a poor man’s ailment because it affects individuals of all incomes.While the number of diabetic patients that access and utilize diabetes medical care services has increased over the years,some personal and institutional factors still limit patients’access to the use of diabetes care.Also,there is a lacuna in the diabetes literature concerning the extent of utilization of available healthcare services by diabetic patients.Chiedu Eseadi Amos Nnaemeka Amedu Leonard Chidi Ilechukwu Millicent O Ngwu Osita Victor Ossai 2023World Journal of Diabetes2023,14,10:1

6Influence of automobile industrial wastewater on soil quality显示文摘Reuse of industrial wastewater(effluent)for irrigation purpose is a common practice.However,lack of adequate treatment of the effluent can cause soil deterioration,vegetation destruction and contamination of the aquatic environment.These adverse effects necessitated the study of wastewater irrigation in Emene Industrial Layout,Enugu State,Nigeria.Wastewater and soil samples were collected,analyzed and subjected to Analysis of Variance(ANOVA)for Completely Randomized Design(CRD)at 5% probability level using GENSTAT software.The results obtained from the study were compared with FAO soil and water standards.The wastewater analysis suggested that contamination at the untreated stage was very high and results at the treatment level were within the FAO reuse range.The study also found wide variation in chemical status of industrial wastewater treated soil.Almost all the values for the wastewater treated soil were not within the FAO irrigated soil chemical properties standards.This suggests high re-contamination along the open channel(from non-point sources)before reuse.This calls for proper monitoring and treatment of the industrial effluent prior to irrigation application.Ugwu Samson Nnaemeka Anyadike Chinenye Chukwuemeka Echiegu Emmanuel Nwoke Oji Achuka Ugwuishiwu Boniface 2014International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,6:1

8Dietary Fibre and Fatty Acid Evaluation of Boiled, Roasted, Germinated and Fermented Breadnut (Ukwa bekee) Seed Flours显示文摘Evaluation of dietary fiber and fatty acid composition of boiled, roasted, fermented and germinated breadnut seed flour was investigated. The seeds were dehulled and washed. It was divided into four equal parts for different processing techniques: boiled, roasted, germinated and fermented. They were analyzed for dietary fibre and fatty acid composition using standard methods. Data were subjected to statistical analysis using Statistical Product for Service Solution (SPSS) version 23.0. Values were expressed as means and standard deviation, Duncan multiple range test was used in separating the means at 95% confidence interval. Dietary fibre composition showed that breadnut seed flours range from 4.94%(fermented breadnut seed flour) to 5.42%(roasted breadnut seed flour). Fatty acid profile showed that breadnut seed flours contain a greater amount of non-essential fatty acids which were highly significant (p < 0.05) in oleic acid (57.93%) for roasted breadnut seed flour followed by linoleic acid (25.76%) in fermented breadnut flour. Stearic acid was the only prominent non-essential fatty acid in the breadnut seed flour and ranged from 4.40%(fermented breadnut seed flour) to 6.27%(germinated breadnut seed flour). The study revealed that all the processed breadnut seed flours have appreciable quantities of dietary fibre and essential fatty acids than non-essential fatty acids. Breadnut seed should be recommended in wheat substitution in bakery industry and culinary uses. It is also recommended for weight loss program.Joy Adaku. C. 9Index model equation analysis:A case study of the risk and source of inorganic contaminants in roadside uncontaminated soil of the Egi oil producing area,Niger Delta显示文摘This study examined the sources,health risk and pollution status of selected inorganic contaminants such as iron(Fe),nickel(Ni),cadmium(Cd),cobalt(Co),arsenic(As),manganese(Mn),lead(Pb),copper(Cu),zinc(Zn),and chromium(Cr)in representative roadside uncontaminated soil(n?72)from the Egi crude oil mining areas(Oboburu,Obagi,and Ogbogu),Niger Delta,Nigeria,using a combination of multiple models(Principle component analysis(PCA),correlation analysis,geo-accumulation index(Igeo),contamination factor(CF),enrichment factor(EF),pollution load index(PLI),cancer risk(CR),hazard quotient(HQ),and metal daily intake(MDIm)).A random sampling method was applied in the sampling and analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy.The result revealed that the mean(mg/kg)for Oboburu,was the highest for Fe(89.95±28.83)and Mn(26.12±7.642),whereas Obagi,had less Fe(28.90±7.601)and Mn(16.80±5.021),and Ogbogu,Fe(44.67±28.15)and Pb(19.38±8.731)was the second highest heavy metal.The order of contaminationwas F>Mn>Zn>Pb>Cu>Cr>Ni>Cd>Co.The Igeo and CF had cadmium as a metal of concern.The contamination level was low from the PLI estimation.The EF revealed anthropogenic sources for all the metals except for Ni,which was biogenic.The correlations at p<0.05 and p<0.01 showed much positive significance amongst the metals.Variations of the cumulative percentages,loading percentages,and eigenvalues from the regression plot gave a coefficients of determination(r^(2))of 0.9936,0.9995,and 0.9994,respectively.The PCA indicated that Cd and Ni were of anthropogenic origin;Mn,Fe,and Co were biogenic or natural,and Zn and Pb were of mixed origins.The CR assessment indicated a possible cancer risk due to Cr,Cd,and Ni,and the rest of elements have no carcinogenic risk.These findings suggest there should be regular monitoring,source control,and integrated environmental management of the study area.Elechi Owhoeke Asmat Ali Okorondu Justin Nnaemeka Kingsley John Orie Julius Nkeonyeasua Ehiwario Abdur Rashid 2023International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,6:0
10Quality of life and depression among patients with high myopia in Nigeria:a cross sectional study显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the quality of life(QOL)and level of depression among participants with high myopia in Nigeria and the demographic factors associated with these outcomes.METHODS:This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 adult participants with high myopia(defined as refractive error≤-5.00 D or worse,and uncorrected visual acuity worse than 6/18 in the better seeing eye)attending ophthalmology centres in Nigeria from 2 October 2021 to 30 August 2022.The means and standard deviations were calculated for each of the four domains of World Health Organization Quality of life scale(WHOQOL-BREF)using the transformed scores.The Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)scale was used to assess the level of depression.RESULTS:The highest and the lowest mean scores of WHOQOL-BREF domains were found for the psychological and physical health domains(mean percentage scores were 67.0[95% confidence intervals(CI)64.1-68.9]and 55.3(95%CI 51.8-58.8,P<0.001),respectively.One-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)revealed significant differences in physical health with educational status(higher among those with tertiary education:mean difference 0.9,95%CI-0.2-2.1;P=0.049),differences in psychological health with working status(higher among those who were working 1.2,95%CI 0.3-2.1;P=0.012).Also,the result showed a statistically significant association between environmental health and marital status(higher among non-married:1.7,95%CI-0.9-2.3;P=0.012)while overall health was associated with place of residence(higher in urban areas:2.3,95%CI 1.2-3.5;P=0.024).For depression,one in every nine participants reported major depressive symptom,mostly younger people(aged 16-29 vs 30-49y:17.0%vs 0,P=0.019),and slightly more women than men(14.3%vs 0,P=0.064).There were significant negative correlations between the depression scores and psychological health(r=-0.48,P<0.001),physical health(r=-0.29,P=0.002),social and relationship(r=-0.49,P<0.001),environmental(r=-0.48,P<0.001)and overall health(r=-0.49,P<0.001)CONCLUSION:People with high myopia have a relatively moderate QOL,but poor physical health,particularly the younger age group,and women who are more likely to experience clinically relevant depression.Eye care professionals should consider possible referrals for counselling for people with high myopia.Uchechukwu Levi Osuagwu Kelechukwu Enyinnaya Ahaiwe Nnaemeka Meribe ElizabethDennis Nkanga Bernadine Nsa Ekpenyong Affiong Andem Ibanga Piwuna ChristopherGoson Dennis George Nkanga 2023International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2023,16,12:0

12Potential impact of music interventions in managing diabetic conditions显示文摘Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases,characterized by an insufficiency in insulin secretion as well as chronic hyperglycemia and disturbances in carbohydrate,lipid,and protein metabolism.The major aim of this study was to conduct a literature review on the impact of music intervention on the management of diabetic conditions among patients.Available studies on the impact of music interventions on the management of diabetic conditions were reviewed and analysed using descriptive literature review approach.This review showed that music intervention plays a dual role in managing patients'diabetic conditions.First,music intervention is impactful in managing the health condition of diabetic patients through enhancing the patient’s compliance with exercise,improving lower limb blood circulation,and enhancing health parameters that increase autonomous balance among diabetic patients.Second,music therapy is impactful in the management of diabetic conditions through lowering blood sugar,heart rate,glucose levels,and stress among patients.However,with the number of empirical studies available in this regard,the impact of music intervention is still growing,and longer-term studies and randomised controlled trials with robust sample size are recommended to reach a more valid conclusion.Chiedu Eseadi Amos Nnaemeka Amedu 2023World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,13:0
13Geoelectrical Investigation of Groundwater Potentials of Northern Paiko,Niger State,North Central Nigeria显示文摘Vertical electrical sounding(VES) was carried out in northern part of Paiko, North Central Nigeria, using Abem terrameter model SAS 4000 to determine the subsurface layer parameters(resistivities, depths and thickness) employed in delineating the groundwater potential of the area. A total of six transverses with ten VES stations along each traverse, at intervals of 50 m were investigated. It has a maximum current electrode separation(AB/2) of 100 m. Three to four distinct geoelectric layers were observed, namely, the top layer, the weathered layer, the fractured/fresh layer, and the fresh basement layer. The observed frequencies in curve types include 21% of H, 4.2% of HA, 2.4% of K, 4.2% of A, 1.67% of KH and 3% of HK. Eight VES stations were delineated as ground water potentials of the area, with third and fourth layer resistivities ranging from 191 to 398 ?·m. Depths range from 13.60 to 36.60 m and thickness varies from 9.23 to 30.51 m. A correlation of the borehole log with the VES lithology is in agreement. 14Electrical geophysical evaluation of susceptibility to flooding in University of Nigeria, Nsukka main campus and its environs, Southeastern Nigeria显示文摘Flooding occurs when rainfall exceeds the absorption capacity of soil and causes significant environmental consequences.In this study,electrical resistivity techniques were employed to assess the flood susceptibility of the study area by examining variations in electrical properties.Prior to flooding,Vertical Electrical Sounding(VES)and Electrical Resistivity Tomography(ERT)profiles were conducted to determine the variations in resistivity within subsurface lithologies exposed to the injected current.The injected current penetrated the subsurface units characterised by resistivity ranging from 190.5Ω·m to 6,775.7Ω·m,42.3Ω·m to 7,297.4Ω·m,and 320.2Ω·m to 24,433.3Ω·m in the first,second and third layers,respectively.These layers were identified as lateritic topsoil,medium-coarse brownish grained sand,and coarse pebbly blackish sand,respectively.The calculated reflection coefficients between layers 1,2,and 3 reveal alternation in layers with values ranging from−0.04 to 0.66 and 0.36 to 0.95 for and,respectively.The transverse resistivity,longitudinal resistivity and anisotropy ranged from 243.59Ω·m to 24,115.42Ω·m,199.61Ω·m to 14,950.76Ω·m,and 1.02 to 2.14.Models derived from the ERT profiles reveal variations in resistivity,pinpointing areas of low resistivity which correspond to waterlogged and impermeable layers.The result of this study underscores the importance of integrated resistivity techniques in the study of floods,as it provides valuable insights into flood behaviour,and subsurface dynamics.Daniel Nnaemeka Obiora Johnson Cletus Ibuot 2023Journal of Groundwater Science and Engineering2023,11,4:0
15The Study on the Corrosion Behaviour of Welded and Unwelded Medium Carbon Steel in Sodium Chloride(Nacl)Solutions显示文摘The research work was based on the study of the corrosion behaviour of the welded and un-welded medium carbon steel in sodium chloride solutions.The Sodium chloride solutions used are 1ml,2ml,3ml and 4ml for both welded and un-welded medium carbon steel in NaCl.The experiments were conducted in two ways,the weight loss analyses of measurements and using the electrochemical analyzer workstation to determine the potential dynamic of the samples.The samples for the weight loss measurements were prepared from rolled products obtained at the foundry shop.Two medium carbon steel materials were sourced with different chemical compositions as sample A and B.The materials were prepared to accommodate the experiments for the determination of welded and un-welded medium carbon steel.A total of sixty-eight(68)samples were produced,prepared and used for the weight loss measurements/analyses the experiments.Thirty-four of the samples each were prepared for both the welded and un-welded experiments.All the samples were produced and prepared through the use of various machining processes with the use of a lathe machine for planning,milling.Thirty-four(34)of the sample preparation were further welded in readiness of the experiments.Sixty-eight breakers were sourced for and used.Ten(10)other samples were used for the determination with the use of the electrochemical analyzer.The chemical compositions of the medium carbon steel were determined with the use of SPECTRO Analytical Instruments.A metallurgical inverted optical microscope was used to determine the microstructures of the materials.The Scanning Electron Microscopy with EDS was used to determine the morphologies of the materials.The thirty-four of the samples were welded this process was performed to determine the effects of welding on the material surrounding the weldments.These materials were made into sizes with the use of power hacksaw(i.e.2cm by 2cm).Other materials were prepared to 1cm x 1cm thickness from the same materials.The Tafel plot experiments and that of the open Circuit Potential Time(OCPT)were carried out with the use of Electrochemical Analyzer/Workstation.The Medium carbon steel materials were exposed for fifty-four(54)days,with an interval of 3days.The corrosion rates analyses were determined and the graphs of the corrosion rates(mm/yr.)and other parameters were used plotted against No of days exposed.Cyril Ocheri Hebert A.Obiorah Romanus Egwuonwu Njoku Nnaemeka Anthony Urama Joseph Babalola Agboola Christopher Nwankwo Mbah Johnson NwaemezieEzeanyanwu Chikezie Walter Onyia 2020Journal of Metallic Material Research2020,3,2:0

17Transition to cleaner cooking energy in Ghana显示文摘Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal 7 and other related goals hinges on increased access to clean energy alternatives for all people irrespective of where they live.However,most developing countries including Ghana still rely largely on traditional biomass as the main source of household energy as a result of a myriad of challenges.From the foregoing,the present study uses the Ghana Living Standard Survey 7(GLSS 7)household data and the multinomial logit regression model to analyse the factors that determine the transition to cleaner cooking energy in Ghana.The analysis shows that the main determinants of household energy choice in Ghana are education,household dwelling type,household size,employment and income group.Whereas education,modern housing,paid employment and higher income increase the adoption of cleaner energy,a higher dependency ratio and employment in the informal sector increase the likelihood of using unclean energy.Increased access to education and the adoption of policies to improve housing conditions,employment and incomes are recommended to encourage the adoption of cleaner energy alternatives.Richard Osei Bofah Paul Appiah-Konadu Franklin Nnaemeka Ngwu 2022Clean Energy2022,6,1:0
18陆地棉GhrbcMT基因克隆、表达与功能初步分析显示文摘植物的rbcMT基因编码核酮糖1,5-二磷酸羧化酶/加氧酶大亚基N-甲基转移酶(ribulose1,5 bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase large subunitε-N-methyltransferase, rbcMT),可能催化双功能酶核酮糖1,5-二磷酸羧化酶/加氧酶大亚基14位赖氨酸的ε-氨基的甲基化过程,目前在豌豆、小麦、烟草等中被鉴定出,可能参与调控植物生长发育,但有关GhrbcMT基因生物学功能研究尚未报道。该研究以陆地棉(Gossypium hirsutum L.)为材料,提取叶片总RNA,反转录合成cDNA,利用PCR技术克隆棉花核酮糖1,5-二磷酸加氧酶/羧化酶大亚基甲基转移酶基因(GhrbcMT)全长cDNA,对该基因进行生物信息学分析,采用荧光定量PCR(qRT-PCR)对GhrbcMT基因进行组织特异性表达分析,并用病毒诱导的基因沉默(virus-induced gene silencing, VIGS)技术降低GhrbcMT在植株中的表达水平,同时用乙醇浸泡法提取野生型与GhrbcMT干涉株系的叶片叶绿素进行含量分析。结果显示, GhrbcMT蛋白质序列存在多个潜在磷酸化与糖基化位点, Loop结构占56.94%,构象灵活。GhrbcMT基因在棉花叶片中特异性表达, GhrbcMT干涉株系的GhrbcMT表达水平显著降低,棉花出现明显的生长缓慢、节间距缩短、植株矮小、花药败育等表型, GhrbcMT基因表达水平的降低对棉花植株的营养生长和育性具有显著影响。该研究通过对1,5-二磷酸核酮糖加氧酶/羧化酶大亚基甲基转移酶功能初步探究,为进一步探究植株生长发育和育性调控机理提供参考。张梦娜 沈丽 Nnaemeka Ekene Vitalis 孙玉强 柯丽萍 2019中国细胞生物学学报2019,41,7:0
19Significance of fostering the mental health of patients with diabetes through critical time intervention显示文摘BACKGROUND Critical time intervention(CTI)is an evidence-based model of practice that is time-limited and aims to provide support for most susceptible individuals during a transition period.AIM To examine the significance of fostering the mental health of diabetes patients through CTI using the scoping review methodology.METHODS As part of the scoping review process,we followed the guidelines established by the Joanna Briggs Institute.The search databases were Google Scholar,PubMed,Scopus,PsycINFO,Reference Citation Analysis(https://www.referencecitation-analysis.com/),and Cochrane Library.From these databases,77 articles were retrieved with the aid of carefully selected search terms.However,19 studies were selected after two reviewers appraised the full texts to ensure that they are all eligible for inclusion,while 54 papers were excluded.RESULTS This study revealed that diabetic patients who had experienced homelessness were at higher risk of being diagnosed with mental illness and that social support services are impactful in the management of the comorbidity of diabetes and mental health problems.In addition,this review reveals that CTI is impactful in enhancing the mental health of homeless patients during the transitional period from the hospital through social support services.CONCLUSION CTI is a promising intervention for alleviating mental health symptoms in homeless patients.Empirical studies are needed across the globe,involving both hospitalized and community-based patients,to determine how clinically effectively CTI is in managing the mental health of diabetics.Chiedu Eseadi Amos Nnaemeka Amedu Henry Egi Aloh 2023World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,36:0
