| 1 | Puerarin protects brain tissue against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by inhibiting the inflammatory response显示文摘Puerarin, a traditional Chinese medicine, exerts a powerful neuroprotective effect in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, but its mechanism is unknown. Here, we established rat models of middle cerebral artery ischemia/reperfusion injury using the suture method. Puerarin(100 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes before middle cerebral artery occlusion and 8 hours after reperfusion. Twenty-four hours after reperfusion, we found that puerarin significantly improved neurological deficit, reduced infarct size and brain water content, and notably diminished the expression of Toll-like receptor-4, myeloid differentiation factor 88, nuclear factor kappa B and tumor necrosis factor-α in the ischemic region. | 2 | Rocky Desertification Risk Zone Delineation in Karst Plateau Area:A Case Study in Puding County,Guizhou Province显示文摘Karst rocky desertification is a geo-ecological problem in Southwest China.The rocky desertification risk zone delineation could be used as a guide for the regional and hierarchical rocky desertification management and prevention.We chose the middle and lower reaches of the Houzhai underground basin on the karst plateau in Puding County, Guizhou Province, China as the study area and selected land use type, elevation, slope, aspect, lithology and settlement buffer as the main driving factors of the rocky desertification.The potential risk of rocky desertification was quantified with the factor-weights union method and statistical analysis method.Five grades of rocky desertification risk were delineated based on Geographic Information System.The extremely low, low, moderate, high and extremely high rocky desertification risk zones accounted for 5.01%, 44.17%, 33.92%, 15.59% and 1.30%, respectively.As a whole, the rocky desertification risk level was moderate because the area of low and moderate rocky desertification risk zones occupied 78.09% of the study area.However, more than half of the area(about 50.81%) was predicted to have moderate rocky desertification risk and above, indicating that the study area was subject to rocky desertification.Rocky desertification risk was higher in the southeast and lower in the northwest of the study area.Distinct differences in the distribution of rocky desertification risk zones corresponding to different factors have been found. | ZHANG Panpan HU Yuanman XIAO Duning LI Xiuzhen YIN Jie HE Hong S | 2010 | Chinese Geographical Science2010,20,1: | 15 |
| 3 | Increased leptin by hypoxic-preconditioning promotes autophagy of mesenchymal stem cells and protects them from apoptosis显示文摘Autophagy is the basic catabolic progress involved in cell degradation of unnecessary or dysfunctional cellular components.It has been proven that autophagy could be utilized for cell survival under stresses.Hypoxic-preconditioning(HPC)could reduce apoptosis induced by ischemia and hypoxia/serum deprivation(H/SD)in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs).Previous studies have shown that both leptin signaling and autophagy activation were involved in the protection against apoptosis induced by various stress,including ischemia-reperfusion.However,it has never been fully understood how leptin was involved in the protective effects conferred by autophagy.In the present study,we demonstrated that HPC can induce autophagy in BMSCs by increased LC3-II/LC3-I ratio and autophagosome formation.Interestingly,similar effects were also observed when BMSCs were pretreated with rapamycin.The beneficial effects offered by HPC were absent when BMSCs were incubated with autophagy inhibitor,3-methyladenine(3-MA).In addition,down-regulated leptin expression by leptin-shRNA also attenuated HPC-induced autophagy in BMSCs,which in turn was associated with increased apoptosis after exposed to sustained H/SD.Furthermore,increased AMP-activated protein kinase phosphorylation and decreased mammalian target of rapamycin phosphorylation that were observed in HPC-treated BMSCs can also be attenuated by down-regulation of leptin expression.Our data suggests that leptin has impact on HPC-induced autophagy in BMSCs which confers protection against apoptosis under H/SD,possibly through modulating both AMPK and mTOR pathway. | WANG LiHan HU XinYang ZHU Wei JIANG Zhi ZHOU Yu CHEN PanPan WANG JianAn | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,2: | 8 |
| 4 | Characterization of 500 Chinese patients with cervical esophageal cancer by clinicopathological and treatment outcomes显示文摘Objective: There are no comprehensive studies on survival outcomes and optimal treatment protocols for cervical esophageal cancer(CEC), due to its rare clinical prevalence. Our objective was to determine the relationship between pathological characteristics, treatment protocols, and survival outcomes in Chinese CEC patients.Methods: A total of 500 Chinese CEC patients were selected from our 500,000 esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma database(1973–2018). There were two main groups: patients treated with surgery, and patients receiving non-surgical treatments(radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy, and chemotherapy). The Chi-square test and Kaplan–Meier method were used to compare the continuous variables and survival.Results: Among the 500 CEC patients, 278(55.6%) were male, and the median age was 60.9 ± 9.4 years. A total of 496 patients(99.2%) were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. In 171(34.2%) patients who received surgery, 22(12.9%) had undergone laryngectomy. In 322(64.4%) patients who received non-surgical treatments, 245(76.1%) received radiotherapy. Stratified survival analysis showed that only T stage was related with survival outcomes for CEC patients in the surgical group, and the outcomes between laryngectomy and non-laryngectomy patients were similar. It was noteworthy that the 5-year survival rate was similar in CEC patients among the different groups treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiochemotherapy(P = 0.244). Conclusions: The CEC patients had similar survival outcomes after curative esophagectomy and radiotherapy, including those with or without total laryngectomy. | 6 | Purification of starch and phosphorus wastewater using core-shell magnetic seeds prepared by sulfated roasting显示文摘Core-shell magnetic seeds with certain adsorption capacity that were prepared by sulfated roasting, served as the core of a magnetic separation technology for purification of starch wastewater. XRD and SEM results indicate that magnetite's surface transformed to be porous α-Fe_2O_3 structure. Compared with magnetite particles, the specific surface area was significantly improved to be 8.361 from 2.591 m^2/g, with little decrease in specific susceptibility. Zeta potential, FT-IR and XPS experiments indicate that both phosphate and starch adsorbed on the surface of the core-shell magnetic seeds by chemical adsorption, which fits well with the Langmuir adsorption model. | 7 | Flow characteristics of tangential leakage in a scroll compressor for automobile heat pump with CO_(2)显示文摘Tangential leakage loss reduction has great significance on improving the performance of scroll compressors.In this study,the flow field of a scroll compressor working with CO_(2) was numerically investigated.The development characteristics of the tangential leakage flow in different working chambers were carried out,which was obtained by analyzing the field quantities distributions.The impacts of the radial clearances and sidewall roughness on the tangential leakage were also taken into consideration,in order to explore the feasible method of the flow control for the tangential leakage in scroll compressors.Results showed that the tangential leakage flow had various characteristics in the suction and compression chambers due to the different interactions between the tangential leakage flow and mainstream.Owing to little reverse pressure gradient,the tangential leakage flow maintained the typical jet form in the suction chambers.By contrast,the mixing of the tangential leakage flow and mainstream induced the passage vortex and secondary flows in the compression chamber.The secondary flow was the primary factor that results in the occurrence of localized high temperature region rather than the tangential leakage.With the increase of the radial clearance,the volumetric efficiency declined and the discharge temperature increased rapidly.In terms of flow control of the tangential leakage,the increase of sidewall roughness by 2μm could achieve the same effect as the decrease of the radial clearance by 4μm,while the volumetric efficiency increased by almost 5%and average discharge temperature decreased by 5K. | ZHENG SiYu WEI MingShan HU ChenXing SONG PanPan TIAN Ran | 2021 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,5: | 4 |
| 8 | Mendelian randomization studies on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: evidence and limitations显示文摘Epidemiological research has revealed a galaxy of biomarkers, such as genes, molecules or traits, which are associated with increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases(ASCVD). However, the etiological basis remains poorly characterized.Mendelian randomization(MR) involves the use of observational genetic data to ascertain the roles of disease-associated risk factors and, in particular, differentiate those reflecting the presence or severity of a disease from those contributing causally to a disease. Over the past decade, MR has evolved into a fruitful approach to clarifying the causal relation of a biomarker with ASCVD and to verifying potential therapeutic targets for ASCVD. In this review, we selected high-quality MR studies on ASCVD, examined the causal relationship of a series of biomarkers with ASCVD, and elucidated the role of MR in validating biomarkers as a therapeutic target by comparing the results from MR studies and randomized clinical trials(RCTs) for the treatment of ASCVD. The good agreement between the results derived by MR and RCTs suggests that MR could be performed as a screening process before novel drug development. However, when designing and interpreting a MR study, the assumptions and limitations inherent in this approach should be taken into account. | 9 | Experimental study of a micro-scale solar organic Rankine cycle system based on compound cylindrical Fresnel lens solar concentrator显示文摘In the present study, a micro-scale solar organic Rankine cycle power generation system was developed. The system comprises of a solar collection system based on compound cylindrical Fresnel lens concentrator and an organic Rankine cycle power generation system integrated with a scroll expander. YD320 and R245 fa were used as the heat transfer fluid and the working fluid, respectively. The effects of the evaporation pressure, the degree of superheat, and the mass flow rate of the working fluid were analyzed to evaluate the solar collection efficiency, the electric power output, the thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency of the system. The results illustrate that both the increasing evaporation pressure and decreasing superheat degree have positive impacts on solar collection efficiency. The electric power increases as the evaporation pressure increases, while the thermal efficiency and the exergy efficiency decrease. However, the system overall efficiency decreases slowly due to the increase of solar collection efficiency. The electric power increases with the increment of the working fluid mass flow rate. The increasing mass flow rate has no visible impact on the thermal and exergy efficiencies of organic Rankine cycle subsystem, whereas a slightly increase of the thermal and exergy efficiencies of the integrated system. The electric power decreases with the increase of the superheat degree, whereas the thermal and the exergy efficiencies of the system increase. The results indicated that the alkali metal Na and alkaline earth metals Ca, Mg in coal have different effects on inherent nitrogen transformation to NH3, HCN and char-N during the lignite steam gasification. Specifically during the steam gasification of Shengli lignite, Na and Ca, Mg not only catalyze the inherent nitrogen conversions to NH3, but also promote the secondary reactions of the nascent char-N as well as the generation of NH3 from the generated HCN, meanwhile they also inhibited the inherent nitrogen conversion to HCN and char-N. | 11 | An oncolytic adenovirus delivering TSLC1 inhibits Wnt signaling pathway and tumor growth in SMMC-7721 xenograft mice model显示文摘Tumor suppressor in lung cancer-1(TSLC1)was first identified as a tumor suppressor for lung cancer,and frequently downregulated in various types of cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).The Wnt pathway plays a critical role in tumorigenesis,migration,and invasion in HCC.However,the function of TSLC1 in modulating Wnt signaling in HCC is unclear.In this study,we evaluated the effect of TSLC1-armed oncolytic adenovirus(S24-TSLC1)on the Wnt/β-catenin pathway,cell viability,invasion and migration abilities of HCC in vitro and the growth of SMMC-7721-xenografted tumor in mice model.We detected the expression of TSLC1 in tumor samples and HCC cell lines.The results showed that TSLC1 expression was low in HCC,but high in pericarcinomatous tissue and normal cells,which implied that TSLC1 is a tumor suppressor of liver cancer.S24-TSLC1 exhibited an antitumor effect on HCC cell growth in vitro,but did little damage to normal liver cells.Overexpression of TSLC1 downregulated the transcriptional activity of TCF4/β-catenin and inhibited the mRNA or protein expression of Wnt target genes cyclinD1 and c-myc.S24-TSLC1 also inhibited the invasion and migration of HCC cells.Animal experiments further confirmed that S24-TSLC1 significantly inhibited tumor growth of the SMMC-7721-xenografted tumor.In conclusion,TSLC1 could downregulate the Wnt signal pathway and suppress HCC cell growth,migration and invasion,suggesting that S24-TSLC1 may be a potent antitumor agent for future clinical trials in liver cancer treatment. | Yigang Wang Panpan Huang Yanping Hu Keni Guo Xiaoyuan Jia Biao Huang Xinyuan Liu Xianglei He Fang Huang | 2021 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,6: | 2 |

| 19 | Microtopographic modification conserves urban wetland water quality by increasing the dissolved oxygen in the wet season显示文摘Microtopography affects hydrological processes and forms different microhabitats.Our previous study uncovered that riparian zone microtopography created various microhabitats with different soil environments and runoff-infiltration patterns.However,how riparian microtopography and microtopography within the water area(waterfall and tributary)affects downstream water quality remains unclear.Therefore,water samples were taken almost monthly in both the main stream and the tributary,before and after waterfalls,and near the bottom of three microtopographic types from June 2016 to March 2017.Compared with the dry season,the fact that water quality worsened in the wet season and that there were positive correlations for nitrate(NO3-)between water and the corresponding soil samples suggested that the riparian-soil environment affected the adjacent water quality mainly in the wet season.Nevertheless,riparian microtopography did not influence water quality downstream because of the low rainfall frequency and the weak leaching process due to plant interception.In the wet season,both the tributary and the waterfall increased the dissolved oxygen in the water body and,therefore,lowered the risk of eutrophication.The tributary has two pathways for improving the water quality,by increased disturbance and flow velocity,while the waterfall only has the former.However,such effects were not significant in the dry season.We conclude that the application of microtopographic modification is useful in maintaining urban wetland water quality in wet seasons. | Yali Liu Jianqing Du Panpan Hu Mingzhu Ma Dan Hu | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1: | 1 |
