12Organo-silane compounds in medium density fiberboard:physical and mechanical properties显示文摘We studied the effects of nanoparticles of organo-silane(NOS) compounds in the size range of20–80 nm on physical and mechanical properties in medium density fiberboard, and used NOS at four consumption levels of 0,50,100,and 150 g kg-1dry wood fibers.Density of all treatments was kept constant at 0.67 g cm-3.The water-repellent property of organo-silane significantly reduced water absorption(WA) and thickness swelling but mechanical properties declined due to the reduced proportion of wood-fiber as organo-silane was added to the matrix:the compression ratio of MDF panels and the integrity among wood-fibers both declined, resulting in reduced mechanical properties. We recommend use of 50 g of NOS/kg wood-fiber to improve WA and thickness swelling while retaining acceptable mechanical properties.Hamid Reza Taghiyari Ali Karimi Paridah Md.Tahir 2015Journal of Forestry Research2015,26,2:1

15Effect of Ratio of Face to Core Particles on Mechanical and Physical Properties of Particleboard Manufactured from Ethiopian Highland Bamboo显示文摘The study was conducted to evaluate effect of ratio of face to core particles on mechanical and physical properties of oriented strand board produced from Ethiopian highland bamboo.Three-layered oriented particleboards were manufactured with 4 proportions of face to core particles at 750 kg/m^3 target density.Ten percent urea formaldehyde resin was used as a binder.Strength and dimensional stability performances of all boards were assessed based on ISO standards. The results showed that modulus of rupture...SEYOUM Kelemwork PARIDAH Md.Tahi WONG Ee Ding RAHIM Sudin 2009Chinese Forestry Science and Technology2009,8,1:0
16The Role of Bamboo Nanoparticles in Kenaf Fiber Reinforced Unsaturated Polyester Composites显示文摘In this study, bamboo nanoparticles in concentration ranges from 0-5%were incorporated along with woven/nonwoven kenaf fiber mat into unsaturated polyester and the developed composites were further characterized.Bamboo chips were subjected to ball milling process for the synthesis of nanoparticles with a particle size of 52.92 nm.The effect that the incorporation of nanoparticles had on various properties of reinforced composites was further observed.Due to the high surface area of nanoparticles, incorporation of 3%of nanofillers contributed towards strong bonding and better wettability with matrix, thus resulting in excellent mechanical properties and thermal characteristics in reinforced unsaturated polyester composites.Furthermore, mechanical characteristics of reinforced composites were deteriorated by the addition of a higher percentage of nanoparticles(>3%)due to agglomeration,as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, ordered structural arrangement of woven kenaf textile fiber showed enhancement in interfacial adhesion and promoted superior mechanical strength in reinforced composites as compared with nonwoven composites.Enih Rosamah Abdul Khalil HPS SWYap Chaturbhuj KSaurabh Paridah MTahir Rudi Dungani Abdulwahab FOwolabi 2018Journal of Renewable Materials2018,6,1:0
17Effects of Planting Density of Rubber Tree Clone(RRIM 2020 Clone and RRIM 2025 Clone)Wood to Particleboard Properties显示文摘The depletion of log resources encourages research into alternative ways to sustain the wood supply. Therefore, the 4-year-old Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia(RRIM)clones series,RRIM 2020 and RRIM 2025,were chosen as potential raw materials for particleboard in this study. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of planting density and rubber tree clones on the mechanical and physical properties of single-layer particleboard. The planting densities used were low,moderate-low,moderate-high,and high, representing 500,1000,1500,and 2000 trees/ha,respectively.Prior to manufacturing, the RRIM 2000 series clone trees were harvested, cut, chipped, flaked, and screened. The mechanical and physical properties were evaluated in accordance with the Japanese Industrial Standard(JIS A 5908-2003).The findings revealed that both planting density and clone had a significant impact on the mechanical and physical properties of particleboard with a thickness of 10 mm and a density of 700 kg/m3.RRIM 2020 specimens with low planting density had superior modulus of elasticity(MOE),modulus of rupture(MOR),and internal bonding(IB)values of 2415,19,and 1.7 MPa,respectively.Furthermore,moderate-low planting density demonstrated the lowest thickness swelling(TS)and water absorption(WA)values and was comparable to control particleboard from commercial clone Prang Besar(PB),PB260.In terms of rubber clones,RRIM 2020 particleboard met the minimum requirements of the JIS standard for mechanical properties and outperformed RRIM 2025.This study recommended a low planting density of 500 trees/ha and the RRIM 2020 clone as a suitable raw material for particleboard manufacturing with a ten percent urea formaldehyde resin content.Juliana Abdul Halip Syeed SaifulAzry Osman Al-Edrus Seng Hua Lee Paridah Md Tahir Nor Yuziah Mohd Yunus Mohd Sapuan Salit Ahmad Ilyas Rushdan 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,7:0
