| 1 | Transcutaneous electroacupuncture alleviates postoperative ileus after gastrectomy: A randomized clinical trial显示文摘AIM To investigate the efficacy and safety of transcutaneouselectroacupuncture(TEA) to alleviate postoperative ileus(POI) after gastrectomy.METHODS From April 2014 to February 2017, 63 gastric cancer patients were recruited from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China. After gastrectomy, the patients were randomly allocated to the TEA(n = 33) or control(n = 30) group. The patients in the TEA group received 1 h TEA on Neiguan(ST36) and Zusanli(PC6) twice daily in the morning and afternoon until they passed flatus. The main outcomes were hours to the first flatus or bowel movement, time to nasogastric tube removal, time to liquid and semi-liquid diet, and hospital stay. The secondary outcomes included postoperative symptom assessment and complications.RESULTS Time to first flatus in the TEA group was significantly shorter than in the control group(73.19 ± 15.61 vs 82.82 ± 20.25 h, P = 0.038), especially for open gastrectomy(76.53 ± 14.29 vs 87.23 ± 20.75 h, P = 0.048). Bowel sounds on day 2 in the TEA group were significantly greater than in the control group(2.30 ± 2.61/min vs 1.05 ± 1.26/min, P = 0.017). Time to nasogastric tube removal in the TEA group was earlier than in the control group(4.22 ± 1.01 vs 4.97 ± 1.67 d, P = 0.049), as well as the time to liquid diet(5.0 ± 1.34 vs 5.83 ± 2.10 d, P = 0.039). Hospital stay in the TEA group was significantly shorter than in the control group(8.06 ± 1.75 vs 9.40 ± 3.09 d, P = 0.041). No significant differences in postoperative symptom assessment and complications were found between the groups. | 2 | The preoperative serum cystatin-C as an independent prognostic factor for survival in upper tract urothelial carcinoma显示文摘Cystatin-C(Cys-C)has been reported as a valuable prognostic biomarker in various malignancies.However,its effect on upper tract urothelial carci noma(UTUC)patie nts has not bee n investigated before.Thus,to explore the impact of Cys-C on survival outcomes in patients undergoing radical nephroureterectomy(RNU),a total of 538 patients with UTUC who underwent RNU between 2005 and 2014 in our center(West China Hospital,Chengdu,China)were included in this study.Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regressi on an a lyses were performed to assess the relationship betwee n Cys-C and survival outcomes using SPSS versi on 22.0.The cutoff value of Cys-C was set as 1.4 mg I1 using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves and Youden index.The mean age of patients included was 66.1±11.1 years,and the media n follow-up durati on was 38(interquartile ran ge:19-56)mon ths.Overall,162(30.1%)patients had elevated Cys-C,and they were much older and had worse renal function than those with Cys-C<1.4 mg I^-1(both P<0.001).Meanwhile,Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the group with elevated Cys-C had worse cancer-specific survival(CSS,P=0.001),disease recurrence-free survival(RFS,P=0.003),and overall survival(OS,P<0.001).Multivariable Cox analysis suggested that the elevated Cys-C was identified as an independent prognostic predictor of CSS(hazard ratio[HR]:1.997,95%confidential interval[CI]:1.331-2.996),RFS(HR:1.429,95%CI:1.009-2.023),and OS(HR:1.989,95%CI:1.366-2.896).In conclusion,our result revealed that the elevated preoperative serum Cys-C was significantly associated with worse outcomes in UTUC patients undergoing RNU. | Ping Tan Ming Shi Jie Chen Hang Xu Nan Xie Huan Xu Yong Jiang Jian-Zhong Ai Liang-Ren Liu Lu Yang Qiang Wei | 2019 | Asian Journal of Andrology2019,21,2: | 7 |
| 3 | Effectiveness of ozonated saline in the treatment of VX2 tumors in rabbits显示文摘Objective To investigate the efficacy, safety, and associated mechanisms of injected ozonated saline in the treatment of VX2 tumors. Methods A total of 90 rabbits bearing VX2 tumors on their left hind legs were randomly divided into three groups. The control group(A) received normal saline, while groups B and C received 20 μg/mL and 40 μg/mL O_3/O_2 ozonated saline, respectively. Rabbits were anesthetized and 2 mL of blood was drawn directly from the heart to measure serum concentrations of interleukin(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α). The skin covering the VX2 tumor was cut in each rabbit and the maximum and vertical diameters of the tumors were measured under direct visualization. Several milliliters of saline, saline pre-treated with 20 μg/mL O_3/O_2, or saline pre-treated with 40 μg/mL O_3/O_2 were directly injected into the tumors of groups A, B, and C, respectively(injection volume(milliliter) =1/2 volume of the tumor, V = 1/2ab^2). On days 4, 8 and 12 following treatment, 10 rabbits were randomly selected from each group for blood sample collection, and serum IL-6 and TNF-α were measured. The tumor growth rate was calculated by measuring the maximum and vertical diameters of the VX2 tumors under direct visualization. All selected rabbits were euthanized and the tumors, livers, and lungs were removed for pathological examination. The tumor necrosis rate was calculated by cutting the tumors into half along the longitudinal axis and measuring the maximum diameters of the intratumoral necrotic regions. Results The average tumor volume in the three groups increased to different degrees at each time point; however, the average tumor growth rates in groups B and C were substantially lower than that in group A, exhibiting a statistically significant difference. The difference in the tumor growth rate between group B and group C was not statistically significant. The serum concentrations of IL-6 and TNF-α increased in the three groups at each time point, with larger increases occurring in groups B and C; however, the greater increases did not reach statistical significance. Although the diameters of the necrotic areas were larger in both groups B and C than that in group A, significant differences in necrotic area diameters were only found when comparing groups A and C on days 4 and 12 following treatment. Conclusion Direct injection of different concentrations of ozonated saline into VX2 tumors significantly increased intratumoral necrosis and reduced the tumor growth rate. | 4 | Phase 1 studies comparing safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of HLX01(a rituximab biosimilar) to reference rituximab in Chinese patients with CD20-positive B-cell lymphoma显示文摘Objective: This study aimed to compare the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and safety profiles of HLX01(a rituximab biosimilar) and reference rituximab sourced from China(Mab Thera?;rituximab-CN).Methods: Here we report the results of two phase 1 studies. In the phase 1 a, open-label, dose-escalation study(NCT03218072, CTR20140400), eligible patients received 250, 375 and 500 mg/m^(2) HLX01 sequentially at 7-day intervals, after confirming no dose-limiting toxicity(DLT). In the phase 1 b, double-blind study(NCT02584920,CTR20140764), eligible patients were given a single dose of 375 mg/m^(2) HLX01 or rituximab-CN. The primary endpoints included safety and tolerability parameters for the phase 1 a and the area under the plasma concentrationtime curve from time zero to day 91(AUC0-91 d) for the phase 1 b study. Equivalence was concluded if 90%confidence interval(90% CI) for the geometric least squares mean ratio(GLSMR) fell in the pre-specified equivalence criteria(80%-125%).Results: Between June 20, 2014 and January 5, 2015, 12 patients were enrolled in the phase 1 a study. The pharmacokinetics of HLX01 showed dose proportionality and accumulation to steady state. HLX01 was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events(AEs), discontinuations or DLTs. Between November 8, 2014 and August13, 2015, 87 eligible patients were enrolled in the phase 1 b study, including 43 who received HLX01 and 44 who were treated with rituximab-CN. The equivalence endpoint was met with GLSMR for AUC0-91 d being 89.6%(90% CI: 80.4%-99.8%). | 5 | Association of gestational anemia with pregnancy conditions and outcomes: A nested case-control study显示文摘BACKGROUND Gestational anemia is a serious public health problem that affects pregnant women worldwide.Pregnancy conditions and outcomes might be associated with the presence of gestational anemia.This study investigated the association of pregnancy characteristics with anemia,exploring the potential etiology of the disease.AIM To assess the association of pregnancy parameters with gestational anemia.METHODS A nested case-control study was conducted based on the Chinese Pregnant Women Cohort Study-Peking Union Medical College Project(CPWCS-PUMC).A total of 3172 women were included.Patient characteristics and gestational anemia occurrence were extracted,and univariable and multivariable logistic regression models were used to analyze the association of pregnancy parameters with gestational anemia.RESULTS Among the 3172 women,14.0% were anemic,46.4% were 25-30 years of age,21.9%resided in eastern,15.7%in middle,12.4%in western 18.0% in southern and 32.0%in northern regions of China.Most women(65.0%)had a normal prepregnancy body mass index.Multivariable analysis found that the occurrence of gestational anemia was lower in the middle and western regions than that in the eastern region[odds ratio(OR)=0.406,95%confidence interval(CI):0.309-0.533,P<0.001],higher in the northern than in the southern region(OR=7.169,95% CI:5.139-10.003,P<0.001),lower in full-term than in premature births(OR=0.491,95% CI:0.316-0.763,P=0.002),and higher in cases with premature membrane rupture(OR=1.404,95% CI:1.051-1.876,P=0.02).CONCLUSION Gestational anemia continues to be a health problem in China,and geographical factors may contribute to the situation.Premature birth and premature membrane rupture may be associated with gestational anemia.Therefore,we should vigorously promote local policy reformation to adapt to the demographic characteristics of at-risk pregnant women,which would potentially reduce the occurrence of gestational anemia. | Yin Sun Zhong-Zhou Shen Fei-Ling Huang Yu Jiang Ya-Wen Wang Su-Han Zhang Shuai Ma Jun-Tao Liu Yong-Le Zhan Hang Lin Yun-Li Chen Ying-Jie Shi Liang-Kun Ma | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,27: | 5 |

| 8 | Quantum engineering of non-equilibrium efficient p-doping in ultra-wide band-gap nitrides显示文摘Ultra-wide band-gap nitrides have huge potential in micro-and optoelectronics due to their tunable wide band-gap,high breakdown field and energy density,excellent chemical and thermal stability.However,their application has been severely hindered by the low p-doping efficiency,which is ascribed to the ultrahigh acceptor activation energy originated from the low valance band maximum.Here,a valance band modulation mode is proposed and a quantum engineering doping method is conducted to achieve high-efficient p-type ultra-wide band-gap nitrides,in which GaN quantum-dots are buried in nitride matrix to produce a new band edge and thus to tune the dopant activation energy.By non-equilibrium doping techniques,quantum engineering doped AIGaN:Mg with Al content of 60%is successfully fabricated.The Mg activation energy has been reduced to about 21 meV,and the hole concentration reaches higher than 10^(18)cm^(-3)at room temperature.Also,similar activation energies are obtained in AIGaN with other Al contents such as 50%and 70%;indicating the universality of the quantum engineering doping method.Moreover,deep-ultraviolet light-emission diodes are fabricated and the improved performance further demonstrates the validity and merit of the method.With the quantum material growth techniques developing,this method would be prevalently available and tremendously stimulate the promotion of ultra-wide band-gap semiconductor-based devices. | Ke Jiang Xiaojuan Sun Zhiming Shi Hang Zang Jianwei Ben Hui-Xiong Deng Dabing Li | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4: | 3 |
| 9 | Massive hemorrhagic ascites: A rare presentation of eosinophilic gastroenteritis显示文摘According to Klein's classification system, the symp-tomatology of eosinophilic gastroenteritis(EG), a rare disease, differs based on the affected tissue layer. Pati-ents with subserosal EG often have peritoneal effusion. Hemorrhagic ascites due to EG is extremely rare and has not been reported in the literature. Here, we report a 57-year-old woman with EG and massive hemorrhagic ascites. Laboratory investigations showed elevated per-ipheral eosinophils with significant eosinophilia(65.6%). Ultrasonography showed massive abdominal ascites. Ab-dominal paracentesis revealed hemorrhagic peritoneal fluid and microscopy showed predominant eosinophils. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed erosions, ex-udates, and mucosal rings in the duodenal mucosa; hist-ological examination indicated eosinophilic infiltration. EG presenting with hemorrhagic ascites was diagnosed by histologic examination of eosinophilic infiltration. She was empirically treated with ketotifen 1 mg bid po with rapid resolution of ascites and a remarkable decline in peripheral eosinophil counts. | 10 | Microstructure and corrosion behavior of electroless deposited Ni-P/CeO_2 coating显示文摘Electroless Ni-P/nano-CeO_2 composite coating was prepared in acidic condition,and its microstructure and corrosive property were compared with its CeO_2-free counterpart.Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrometer were used to examine surface morphology and structure of the as-plated coating.Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) were used to study the coating's phase change at high temperature.The coating's corrosive behavior in 3%NaCl+5%H_2SO_4 solution was also investigated.The results showed that Ni-P coating had partial amorphous structure mixed with nano-crystals,while the Ni-P/CeO_2 coating had perfect amorphous structure.In high-temperature condition,Ni_3P precipitation and Ni crystallization took place in both coatings but at different temperatures,while the Ni-P/CeO_2 coating had sintered phase of NiCe_2O_4 spinels.The anti-corrosion property was better in the CeO_2-containing coating,and this was due to its less liability to undergo local-cell corrosion than its CeO_2-free counterpart.Ni-P/CeO_2 coating's pure amorphous structure was the result of Ni's hindered crystal-typed deposition and P's promoted deposition. | Hui Ming Jin Shi Hang Jiang Lin Nan Zhang | 2008 | Chinese Chemical Letters2008,19,11: | 2 |
| 11 | The transcription factors TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density and artemisinin levels in Artemisia annua显示文摘The important antimalarial drug artemisinin is biosynthesized and stored in Artemisia annua glandular trichomes and the artemisinin content correlates with trichome density;however,the factors affecting trichome development are largely unknown.Here,we demonstrate that the A.annua R2R3 MYB transcription factor TrichomeLess Regulator 1(TLR1)negatively regulates trichome development.In A.annua,TLR1 overexpression lines had 44.7%–64.0%lower trichome density and 11.5%–49.4%lower artemisinin contents and TLR1-RNAi lines had 33%–93.3%higher trichome density and 32.2%–84.0%higher artemisinin contents compared with non-transgenic controls.TLR1 also negatively regulates the expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway genes in A.annua.When heterologously expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana,TLR1 interacts with GLABROUS3a,positive regulator of trichome development,and represses trichome development.Yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays indicated that TLR1 interacts with the WUSCHEL homeobox(WOX)protein AaWOX1,which interacts with the LEAFY-like transcription factor TLR2.TLR2 overexpression in Arabidopsis and A.annua showed that TLR2 reduces trichome development by reducing gibberellin levels.Furthermore,artemisinin contents were 19%–43%lower in TLR2-overexpressing A.annua plants compared to controls.These data indicate that TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density by lowering gibberellin levels and may enable approaches to enhance artemisinin yields. | Zongyou Lv JinXing Li Shi Qiu Fei Qi Hang Su Qitao Bu Rui Jiang Kexuan Tang Lei Zhang Wansheng Chen | 2022 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,6: | 2 |

| 13 | Intercellular mitochondrial transfer as a means of revitalizing injured glomerular endothelial cells显示文摘BACKGROUND Recent studies have demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)can rescue injured target cells via mitochondrial transfer.However,it has not been fully understood how bone marrow-derived MSCs repair glomeruli in diabetic kidney disease(DKD).AIM To explore the mitochondrial transfer involved in the rescue of injured glomerular endothelial cells(GECs)by MSCs,both in vitro and in vivo.METHODS In vitro experiments were performed to investigate the effect of co-culture with MSCs on high glucose-induced GECs.The transfer of mitochondria was visualized using fluorescent microscopy.GECs were freshly sorted and ultimately tested for apoptosis,viability,mRNA expression by real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction,protein expression by western blot,and mitochondrial function.Moreover,streptozotocin-induced DKD rats were infused with MSCs,and renal function and oxidative stress were detected with an automatic biochemical analyzer and related-detection kits after 2 wk.Kidney histology was analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin,periodic acid-Schiff,and immunohistochemical staining.RESULTS Fluorescence imaging confirmed that MSCs transferred mitochondria to injured GECs when cocultured in vitro.We found that the apoptosis,proliferation,and mitochondrial function of injured GECs were improved following co-culture.Additionally,MSCs decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines[interleukin(IL)-6,IL-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-α]and pro-apoptotic factors(caspase 3 and Bax).Mitochondrial transfer also enhanced the expression of superoxide dismutase 2,B cell lymphoma-2,glutathione peroxidase(GPx)3,and mitofusin 2 and inhibited reactive oxygen species(ROS)and dynamin-related protein 1 expression.Furthermore,MSCs significantly ameliorated functional parameters(blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine)and decreased the production of malondialdehyde,advanced glycation end products,and ROS,whereas they increased the levels of GPx and superoxide dismutase in vivo.In addition,significant reductions in the glomerular basement membrane and renal interstitial fibrosis were observed following MSC treatment.CONCLUSION MSCs can rejuvenate damaged GECs via mitochondrial transfer.Additionally,the improvement of renal function and pathological changes in DKD by MSCs may be related to the mechanism of mitochondrial transfer. | Li-Xia Tang Bing Wei Lu-Yao Jiang You-You Ying Ke Li Tian-Xi Chen Ruo-Fei Huang Miao-Jun Shi Hang Xu | 2022 | World Journal of Stem Cells2022,14,9: | 2 |

| 16 | Ultrahigh-energy and-power aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion microbatteries based on highly cation-compatible vanadium oxides显示文摘Aqueous multivalent-metal-ion intercalation chemistries hold genuine promise to develop safe and powerful microbatteries for potential use in many miniaturized electronics.However,their development is beset by state-of-the-art electrode materials having practical capacities far below their theoretical values.Here we demonstrate that high compatibility between layered transition-metal oxide hosts and hydrated cation guests substantially boost their multi-electron-redox reactions to offer higher capacities and rate capability,based on typical bipolar vanadium oxides preintercalated with hydrated cations(M_(x)V_(2)O_(5)).When seamlessly integrated on Au current microcollectors with a three-dimensional bicontinuous nanoporous architecture that offers high pathways of electron transfer and ion transport,the constituent Zn_(x)V_(2)O_(5) exhibits specific capacity of as high as∼527 mAh g^(−1) at 5 mV s^(−1) and retains∼300 mAh g^(−1) at 200 mV s^(−1) in 1 M ZnSO_(4) aqueous electrolyte,outperforming the M_(x)V_(2)O_(5)(M=Li,Na,K,Mg).This allows aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion microbatteries constructed with symmetric nanoporous Zn_(x)V_(2)O_(5)/Au interdigital microelectrodes as anode and cathode to show high-density energy of∼358 mWh cm^(−3)(a value that is forty-fold higher than that of 4 V/500μAh Li thin film battery)at high levels of power delivery. | Sheng-Bo Wang Qing Ran Wu-Bin Wan Hang Shi Shu-Pei Zeng Zi Wen Xing-You Lang Qing Jiang | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,25: | 1 |
