1Chitosan as A Preservative for Fruits and Vegetables:A Review on Chemistry and Antimicrobial Properties显示文摘Chitosan,derived from chitin,a major constituent(in quantity)of crustaceans,is a unique aminopolysaccharide with emerging commercial potential in agriculture,food,pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals due to its nontoxic,biodegradable and biocompatable properties.Chitosan coating on fruits and vegetables has been found to be effective for the reduction of a variety of harmful micro-organims and extend the shelf-life of these products.In this review,our focus is on the antimicrobial properties of chitosan and its application as a natural preservative for fresh products.We detailed the key properties that are related to food preservation,the molecular mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of chitosan on fungi,gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria,coating methods for using chitosan and its formulation for preserving fruits and vegetables,as well as the radiation method of producing chitosan from chitin.Understanding the economic and scientific factors of chitosan’s production and efficiency as a preservative will open its practical application for fruits and vegetable preservation.Chao DUAN Xin MENG Jingru MENG MdIqbal Hassan KHAN Lei DAI Avik KHAN Xingye AN Junhua ZHANG Tanzina HUQ Yonghao NI 2019Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2019,4,1:1

4Strategies to assemble therapeutic and imaging molecules into inorganic nanocarriers显示文摘Inorganic nanocarriers are potent candidates for delivering conventional anticancer drugs,nucleic acid-based therapeutics,and imaging agents,influencing their blood half-lives,tumor targetability,and bioactivity.In addition to the high surface area-to-volume ratio,they exhibit excellent scalability in synthesis,controllable shape and size,facile surface modification,inertness,stability,and unique optical and magnetic properties.However,only a limited number of inorganic nanocarriers have been so far approved for clinical applications due to burst drug release,poor target specificity,and toxicity.To overcome these barriers,understanding the principles involved in loading therapeutic and imaging molecules into these nanoparticles(NPs)and the strategies employed in enhancing sustainability and targetability of the resultant complexes and ensuring the release of the payloads in extracellular and intracellular compartments of the target site is of paramount importance.Therefore,we will shed light on various loading mechanisms harnessed for different inorganic NPs,particularly involving physical entrapment into porous/hollow nanostructures,ionic interactions with native and surface-modified NPs,covalent bonding to surface-functionalized nanomaterials,hydrophobic binding,affinity-based interactions,and intercalation through co-precipitation or anion exchange reaction.Sheikh Tanzina HAQUE Mark M.BANASZAK HOLL Ezharul Hoque CHOWDHURY 2022Frontiers of Materials Science2022,16,3:0
5Sources,production and commercial applications of fungal chitosan:A review显示文摘Chitosan is a type of biopolymer that can be obtained from animal/marine sources,and it can also be extracted or produced from agriculture waste products like mushroom or different fungal sources after the chitin deacetylation.Depending on the size of mushroom farm,the amount of waste ranges between 5%and 20%of the production volume.The cell wall of the filamentous fungi,a good source of chitin,offers an easy way to extract chitin.The physicochemical character-istics such as molecular weight and degree of deacetylation of fungal chitosan can be controlled compared to chitosan obtained from crustacean sources.Fungal sourced chitosan can be used in food,pharmaceutical or biomedical applications for different applications,for example,as an antimicrobial agent,coating material,water purification or bio-pesticide.This review mainly fo-cused on the extraction of chitin from mushroom or different fungal sources and also showed some applications of commercial chitosan products.Tanzina Huq Avik Khan David Brown Natasha Dhayagude Zhibin He Yonghao Ni 2022Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2022,7,2:0
6Impact of Commercial Floodplain Aquaculture on Common-pool Resource Dependent Community显示文摘Aquaculture in pond and floodplain was accelerated in Bangladesh in the 1990s as a means of better production and income which was backed by the donor agencies,NGOs,and the government.Currently,the commercial actors are involved in the aquaculture systems due to the availability of production technologies and inputs.This paper aims to explore how the commercialization and privatization of floodplain aquaculture become the cause of the sufferings of the natural resource-dependent people and biodiversity loss in the floodplains.Now,Influential people hold control of the common pool floodplains and restricted the access of the Small-Scale Fishers(SSF)to manage the aquaculture.Our findings suggest that the SSF,for whom the seasonal floodplains were an important source of livelihood,their livelihood has been destroyed and overall wellbeing have been negatively affected.Besides that,lending enough evidence to the increased inequality,a new group of poor has emerged.Because instead of ensuring the welfare of SSF,Bangladesh government has leased the floodplain lands to the powerful rich people.In addition to growing inequalities,natural resource degradation has welcomed social vulnerabilities.However,no development initiative will ever be sustainable and effective if the existing socio-ecological setting is not considered.Bangladesh government should take robust attempts to revisit fisheries policies to ensure livelihood resilience of fisheries resource-dependent community by managing the access rights of the common pool resources.Tanzina Nazia Afia Fahmida Daizy 2021Journal of Fisheries Science2021,3,2:0
