1Black carbon aerosols and their radiative properties in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘The climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosols are a hot topic in global science community, and radiative properties of the aerosols are one of the important parameters in assessing climatic change. Here we studied the black carbon concentration and absorption coefficient measured with aethalometers, scattering coefficient measured with nephelometers, and single scattering albedo derived at an atmospheric composition watch station in Guangzhou from 2004 to 2007. Our main results are as follows. The data of black carbon concentration and absorption coefficients measured with instruments cannot be directly used until they are measured in parallel with internationally accepted instruments for comparison, calibration, and reduction. After evaluation of the data, the result shows that the monthly mean of BC concentration varies 3.1―14.8 μg·m-3 and the concentration decreases by about 1 μg·m-3 in average over the four years; It is higher in the dry season with a multi-year mean of 8.9 μg/m3 and lower in the rainy season with a multi-year mean of 8.0 μg·m-3; The extreme maximum of monthly mean concentration occurred in December 2004 and extreme minimum in July 2007, and a 4-year mean is 8.4 μg·m-3. It is also shown that monthly mean scattering coefficient derived varies 129 -565 Mm-1, monthly mean absorption coefficient 32-139 Mm-1, and monthly mean single scattering albedo 0.71-0.91, with annual mean values of 0.80, 0.82, 0.79 and 0.84 for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Three instruments were used to take simultaneous measurements of BC in PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 and the results showed that PM2.5 took up about 90% of PM10 and PM1 accounted for about 68% of PM2.5, and BC aerosols are mainly present in fine particulates. The variability of BC concentrations is quite consistent between the Nancun station (141 m above sea level) and the Panyu station (13 m above sea level), which are 8 km apart from each other. 3Genome analysis of Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin provides new insights into rubber biosynthesis显示文摘The Russian dandelion Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin(TKS), a member of the Composite family and a potential alternative source of natural rubber(NR) and inulin, is an ideal model system for studying rubber biosynthesis. Here we present the draft genome of TKS, the first assembled NR-producing weed plant. The draft TKS genome assembly has a length of 1.29 Gb, containing 46 731 predicted protein-coding genes and68.56% repeats, in which the LTR-RT elements predominantly contribute to the genome enlargement. We analyzed the heterozygous regions/genes, suggesting its possible involvement in inbreeding depression.Through comparative studies between rubber-producing and non-rubber-producing plants, we found that enzymes of the mevalonate(MVA) pathway and rubber elongation might be critical for rubber biosynthesis, and several key isoforms have been isolated and shown to be predominantly expressed in the latex, indicating their crucial functions in rubber biosynthesis. Moreover, for two important families in rubber elongation, the CPT/CPTL and REF/SRPP families, diverse evolutionary tracks have been revealed. 4Baicalin induces ferroptosis in bladder cancer cells by downregulating FTH1显示文摘Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulated cell death caused by iron accumulation and subsequent lipid peroxidation.Currently,the therapeutic role of ferroptosis on cancer is gaining increasing interest.Baicalin an active component in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi with anticancer potential various cancer types;however,the effects of baicalein on bladder cancer and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown.In the study,we investigated the effect of baicalin on bladder cancer cells5637 and KU-19-19.As a result,we show baicalin exerted its anticancer activity by inducing apoptosis and cell death in bladder cancer cells.Subsequently,we for the first time demonstrate baicalin-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo,accompanied by reactive oxygen species(ROS) accumulation and intracellular chelate iron enrichment.The ferroptosis inhibitor deferoxamine but not necrostatin-1,chloroquine(CQ),N-acetyl-L-cysteine,L-glutathione reduced,or carbobenzoxy-valyl-alanyl-aspartyl-[O-methyl]-fluoromethylketone(Z-VAD-FMK) rescued baicalin-induced cell death,indicating ferroptosis contributed to baicalin-induced cell death.Mechanistically,we show that ferritin heavy chain1(FTH1) was a key determinant for baicalin-induced ferroptosis.Overexpression of FTH1 abrogated the anticancer effects of baicalin in both 5637 and KU19-19 cells.Taken together,our data for the first time suggest that the natural product baicalin exerts its anticancer activity by inducing FTH1-dependent ferroptosis,which will hopefully provide a prospective compound for bladder cancer treatment.Na Kong Xiaying Chen Jiao Feng Ting Duan Shuiping Liu Xueni Sun Peng Chen Ting Pan Lili Yan Ting Jin Yu Xiang Quan Gao Chengyong Wen Weirui Ma Wencheng Liu Mingming Zhang Zuyi Yang Wengang Wang Ruonan Zhang Bi Chen Tian Xie Xinbing Sui Wei Tao 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,12:23
5Adsorption removal of thiocyanate from aqueous solution by calcined hydrotalcite显示文摘A hydrotalcite with Mg/Al molar ratio 2 was prepared by co-precipitation method and was characterized by XRD, TG/DTA, Zeta potential and BET surface area. The hydrotalcite was calcined at 500℃, with the dehydration from interlayer, the dehydroxilation from the brucite-like layer and the decomposition of carbonate successively, transformed into the mixed oxide type. The removal of thiocyanate from aqueous solution by using the original hydrotalcite and calcined hydrotalcite(HTC-500) was investigated. The results showed that the thiocyanate adsorption capacity of calcined hydrotalcite was much higher than that of the original form. Calcined hydrotalcite was particularly effective at removing thiocyanate, and that the effective range of pH for the thiocyanate removal are between 5.5—10.0. The experimental data of thiocyanate removal fit nicely with Langmuir isotherm, and the saturated adsorption uptake was 96.2 mg SCN-/g HTC-500. The adsorption of thiocyanate by calcined hydrotalcite follows first-order kinetics. And the intercalation to the structure recovery for calcined hydrotalcite. 8Clinical characteristics and effectiveness of antiviral agents in hospitalized children with infectious mononucleosis in China:A multicenter retrospective study显示文摘Importance:The clinical characteristics of infectious mononucleosis(IM)in Chinese children have not been evaluated in multicenter studies,and the effectiveness of antiviral treatment are controversial.Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics of Chinese children with IM and current status of antiviral therapy for affected patients.Methods:Hospitalized patients with IM were enrolled between 2018 and 2020 in five children’s hospitals in China.The clinical characteristics were compared among four age groups:<3 years,3-<6 years,6-<10 years,and≥10 years.The clinical characteristics of IM and effectiveness of antiviral therapy were compared among patients receiving acyclovir(ACV),ganciclovir(GCV),and no antiviral therapy(i.e.,non-antiviral group).Results:In total,499 patients were analyzed;most patients were 3-<6 years of age.The most common symptoms and signs included fever(100%),lymphadenopathy(98.6%),pharyngitis(86.4%),eyelid edema(76.8%),and snoring(72.9%).There were significant differences in rash,hepatomegaly,and liver dysfunction among the four age groups.Patients aged<3 years had a lower incidence of liver dysfunction and a higher incidence of rash.Among the 499 patients,50.1%were treated with GCV,26.3%were treated with ACV,and 23.6%received no antiviral therapy.Compared with the non-antiviral group,patients in the ACV and GCV groups had longer durations of fever(P<0.001).There were no significant differences in the incidences of complications among the three treatment groups.Interpretation:The incidence of IM in Chinese children peaked at 3-<6 years of age.Clinical features of IM varied according to age.Patients receiving antiviral therapy exhibited more serious clinical manifestations than did patients without antiviral therapy.The effectiveness of antiviral therapy for IM requires further analysis.Huili Hu Huiling Deng Jing Bi Yi Xu Shuangjie Li Yue Xie Xinrong Sun Dongmeng Wang Xufang Li Wenxian Ouyang Bing Hu Yufeng Zhang He Tang Chunxiao Fang Hui Zhang Lingyun Guo Chen Wang Tianyi Wang Fengxia Yang Tao Jiang Zhengde Xie Gang Liu 2021Pediatric Investigation2021,5,3:12
9Effect of atmospheric aerosol on surface ozone variation over the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘Our analysis of the surface aerosol and ultraviolet(UV) measurements in Pearl River Delta(PRD) region shows that the sur-face UV radiation is reduced by more than 50% due to high aerosol concentrations.This has important impacts on urban eco-system and photochemistry,especially on ozone photochemical production over the region.The quantitative effect of aerosols on surface ozone is evaluated by analyzing surface observations(including ozone,ultraviolet radiation,aerosol radiative pa-rameters) and by using radiative and chemical models.A case study shows that the aerosol concentrations and UV radiation are significantly correlated with ozone concentrations.The correlation coefficient between the aerosol optical depth(AOD) and the PM10 mass concentration is very high,with a maximum of 0.98,and the AOD and UV radiation/ozone is anti-correlated,with a correlation coefficient of -0.90.The analysis suggests that ozone productivity is significantly decreased due to the reduction of UV radiation.The noon-time ozone maximum is considerably depressed when AOD is 0.6,and is further decreased when AOD is up to 1.2 due to the reduction of ozone photochemical productivity.Because the occurring probability of aerosol optical depth for AOD550 nm≥0.6 and AOD340 nm≥1.0 is 47,and 55% respectively during the dry season(October,November,December,January),this heavy aerosol condition explains the low ozone maximum that often occurs in the dry season over the Guangzhou region.The analysis also suggests that the value of single scattering albedo(SSA) is very sensitive to the aerosol radiative effect when the radiative and chemical models are applied,implying that the value of SSA needs to be carefully studied when the models are used in calculating ozone production.DENG XueJiao ZHOU XiuJi WU Dui TIE XueXi TAN HaoBo LI Fei BI XueYan DENG Tao JIANG DeHai 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5:10
10Clinical Application of Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment Battery-Second Edition in Evaluating of Cognitive Function of Chinese Patients with Post-stroke Aphasia显示文摘Objective To investigate the clinical application value of Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment(LOTCA)battery in Chinese patients with post-stroke aphasia.Methods Cognitive functions of 59 Chinese patients with aphasia following a stroke were assessed with the Chinese version of the second edition of LOTCA battery and their linguistic functions were tested with the Western Aphasia Battery(WAB)Scale,respectively.The results of LOTCA were analyzed and compared across different groups,in the light of gender,age,educational background,the length of illness,and the degree of aphasia.Results Neither the score of subtests of the LOTCA nor the overall scores of LOTCA of aphasia patients with different gender and educational background differed(all P>0.05).In different age groups,apart from thinking operation(F=3.373,P=0.016),visuomotor organization(F=3.124,P=0.022),attention(F=3.729,P=0.009)and the total score(F=2.683,P=0.041),there was no difference in terms of the other subtest scores of LOTCA(all P>0.05).In the groups of different length of time with illness,apart from orientation(F=2.982,P=0.039)and attention(F=3.485,P=0.022),the score of other subtests and the total score of LOTCA were not different(all P>0.05).In the groups of different degree of aphasia,apart from attention(F=2.061,P=0.074),both the score of other subtests and the total score of LOTCA differed(all P<0.05).Conclusion LOTCA might be suitable to assessing the cognitive ability of post-stroke Chinese patients with aphasia.Zeng-zhi Yu Shu-jun Jiang Jun Li Sheng Bi Fei Li Tao Xie Rui Wang Xiao-tan Zhang 2013Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2013,28,3:9
11Organic photovoltaic cell with 17% efficiency and superior processability显示文摘The development of organic photoactive materials,especially the newly emerging non-fullerene electron acceptors(NFAs),has enabled rapid progress in organic photovoltaic(OPV)cells in recent years.Although the power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)of the top-performance OPV cells have surpassed 16%,the devices are usually fabricated via a spin-coating method and are not suitable for large-area production.Here,we demonstrate that the fine-modification of the flexible side chains of NFAs can yield 17%PCE for OPV cells.More crucially,as the optimal NFA has a suitable solubility and thus a desirable morphology,the high efficiencies of spin-coated devices can be maintained when using scalable blade-coating processing technology.Our results suggest that optimization of the chemical structures of the OPV materials can improve device performance.This has great significance in larger-area production technologies that provide important scientific insights for the commercialization of OPV cells.Yong Cui Huifeng Yao Ling Hong Tao Zhang Yabing Tang Baojun Lin Kaihu Xian Bowei Gao Cunbin An Pengqing Bi Wei Ma Jianhui Hou 2020National Science Review2020,7,7:7

15Radiotherapy combined with nimotuzumab for elderly esophageal cancer patients:A phaseⅡclinical trial显示文摘Objective:To investigate the safety and efficacy of nimotuzumab combined with radiotherapy for elderly patients with non-resectable esophageal carcinoma(EC).Methods:Eligible patients were aged 70 years or older and had treatment-naive,histologically proven inoperable locally advanced EC.Enrolled patients received radiotherapy with a total dose of 50-60 Gy in 25-30 fractions,concurrent with weekly infusion of nimotuzumab.The primary end point was the rate of more than grade 3 toxicities.Results:From June 2011 to July 2016,46 patients with stageⅡ-IV EC with a median age of 76.5 years were enrolled.There were 10,28 and 8 patients with stageⅡ,III and IV disease,respectively.The common acute toxicities included esophagitis(grade 1-2,75.4%;grade 3,8.7%),pneumonitis(grade 1,4.3%;grade 2,6.5%;grade3,2.2%),leukopenia(grade 1-2,60.9%;grade 3-4,4.4%),gastrointestinal reaction(grade 1-2,17.3%;grade 3,2.2%),thrombocytopenia(grade 1-2,21.7%;grade 3,2.2%),and radiothermitis(grade 1-2,39.2%).The incidence of grade 3-4 adverse effects was 17.4%.No grade 5 toxicities were observed.Clinical complete response,partial response,stable disease,and progressive disease were observed in 1(2.2%),31(67.4%),12(26.1%),and 2(4.3%)patients,respectively.The median overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)were 17 and 10 months,respectively.The 2-,3-,and 5-year OS and PFS rates were 30.4%,21.7%,19.6%,and 26.1%,19.6%,19.6%,respectively.Conclusions:Nimotuzumab combined with radiotherapy is a safe and effective therapy for elderly patients who are not surgical candidates.Further studies are warranted to confirm its therapeutic effects in elderly EC patients.Xu Yang Yirui Zhai Nan Bi Tao Zhang Lei Deng Wenqing Wang Xin Wang Dongfu Chen Zongmei Zhou Luhua Wang Jun Liang 2021Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,1:4

17Hybrid speciation via inheritance of alternate alleles of parental isolating genes显示文摘It is increasingly realized that homoploid hybrid speciation(HHS),which involves no change in chromosome number,is an important mechanism of speciation.HHS will likely increase in frequency as ecological and geographical barriers between species are continuing to be disrupted by human activities.HHS requires the establishment of reproductive isolation between a hybrid and its parents,but the underlying genes and genetic mechanisms remain largely unknown.In this study,we reveal by integrated approaches that reproductive isolation originates in one homoploid hybrid plant species through the inheritance of altemate alleles at genes that determine parental premating isolation.The parent species of this hybrid species are reproductively isolated by differences in flowering time and survivorship on soils containing high concentrations of iron.We found that the hybrid species inherits alleles of parental isolating major genes related to flowering time from one parent and alleles of major genes related to iron tolerance from the other parent.In this way,it became reproductively isolated from one parent by the difference in flowering time and from the other by habitat adaptation(iron tolerance).These findings and further modeling results suggest that HHS may occur relatively easily via the inheritance of alternate parental premating isolating genes and barriers.Zefu Wang Yuanzhong Jiang Hao Bi Zhiqiang Lu Yazhen Ma Xiaoyue Yang Ningning Chen Bin Tian Bingbing Liu Xingxing Mao Tao Ma Stephen P.DiFazio Quanjun Hu Richard J.Abbott Jianquan Liu 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,2:4

20Bioremediation of Hexavalent Chromium Pollution by Sporosarcina saromensis M52 Isolated from Offshore Sediments in Xiamen, China显示文摘Objective Cr(VI)removal from industrial effluents and sediments has attracted the attention of environmental researchers.In the present study,we aimed to isolate bacteria for Cr(VI)bioremediation from sediment samples and to optimize parameters of biodegradation.Methods Strains with the ability to tolerate Cr(VI)were obtained by serial dilution and spread plate methods and characterized by morphology,16S r DNA identification,and phylogenetic analysis.Cr(VI)was determined using the 1,5-diphenylcarbazide method,and the optimum p H and temperature for degradation were studied using a multiple-factor mixed experimental design.Statistical analysis methods were used to analyze the results.Results Fifty-five strains were obtained,and one strain(Sporosarcina saromensis M52;patent application number:201410819443.3)having the ability to tolerate 500 mg Cr(VI)/L was selected to optimize the degradation conditions.M52 was found be able to efficiently remove 50-200 mg Cr(VI)/L in24 h,achieving the highest removal efficiency at p H 7.0-8.5 and 35°C.Moreover,M52 could completely degrade 100 mg Cr(VI)/L at p H 8.0 and 35°C in 24 h.The mechanism involved in the reduction of Cr(VI)was considered to be bioreduction rather than absorption.Conclusion The strong degradation ability of S.saromensis M52 and its advantageous functional characteristics support the potential use of this organism for bioremediation of heavy metal pollution.ZHAO Ran WANG Bi CAI Qing Tao LI Xiao Xia LIU Min HU Dong GUO Dong Bei WANG Juan FAN Chun 2016Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,2:4
