1Increased proliferation activity measured by immunoreactive Ki67 is associated with survival improvement in rectal/recto sigmoid cancer显示文摘AIM: To assess the expression of Ki67 as prognosticator in rectal/recto sigmoid cancer.METHODS: Samples from 146 patients with rectal and recto sigmoid cancer were studied for expression of Ki67 and its prognostic significance in comparison with clinicopathological predictors of survival. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from 6 (4.1%) patients with T1, 26 (17.8%) with T2, 94 (64.4%) with T3, and 20 (13.7%) with T4 tumors were studied. Ki67 expression was determined immunohistochemically. Samples were divided according to mean value into high (>40%) and low (≤40%) expression. Areas of extensive proliferation (>50%) were defined as 'hot spot' areas. RESULTS: Hot spot areas were present in samples regardless of histopathological grade. Lower TNM and Dukes stage and higher expression of Ki67 and presence of Ki67 hot spot areas in histopathological samples were associated with better survival, whereas no association was observed with histopathological grade (P = 0.78). In Cox multivariate regression analysis, significant prognostic factors were Dukes stage (P<0.001), presence of lymph node metastases (P = 0.015), age (P = 0.035) andpresence of Ki67 hot spot areas (P = 0.044). CONCLUSION: Proliferative activity as measured by Ki67 in rectal cancer is associated with survival improvement compared with patients with low Ki67. 2Compression-related EMIC waves drive relativistic electron precipitation显示文摘With coordinated observations of the NOAA 15 satellite and OUL magnetometer station in Finland, we report that the electromagnetic ion cyclotron(EMIC) waves which were stimulated by the compression of the magnetosphere drive relativistic electron precipitation in geoquiescence on 1 Jan 2007. After an enhancement of solar wind dynamic pressure(SWDP), a dayside Pc1 pulsation was observed by the OUL station. Such a Pc1 pulsation is caused by an EMIC wave which propagates from the generation source to lower altitudes. Simultaneously, the NOAA 15 satellite registered an enhancement of precipitating electron count rates with energies >3 Me V within the anisotropic zone of protons. This phenomenon is coincident with the quasi-linear theoretical calculation presented in this paper. 3Explaining the influence of dopant concentration and excitation power density on the luminescence and brightness of β-NaYF4:Yb^3+,Er^3+ nanoparticles:Measurements and simulations显示文摘We assessed the influence of Yb^3+ and Er34 dopant concentration on the relative spectral distribution, quantum yield (Фuc), and decay kinetics of the upconversion luminescence (UCL) and particle brightness (BUC) for similarly sized (33 nm) oleate-capped p-NaYF4:Yb3t,Er^3+ upconversion (UC) nanoparticles (UCNPs) in toluene at broadly varied excitation power densities (F). This included an Yb^3+ series where the Yb^3+ concentration was varied between 11%—21% for a constant Er^3+ concentration of 3%, and an Er^3+ series, where the Er^3+ concentration was varied between 1%-4% for a constant Yb^3+ concentration of 14%. The results were fitted with a coupled rate equation model utilizing the UCL data and decay kinetics of the green and red Er34 emission and the Yb34 luminescence at 980 nm. An increasing Yb34 concentration favors a pronounced triphotonic population of 4F9/2 at high P by an enhanced back energy transfer (BET) from the 4G11/2 level. Simultaneously, the Yb^3+-controlled UCNPs absorption cross section overcompensates for the reduction in Фuc with increasing Yb^3+ concentration at high P, resulting in an increase in Sue. Additionally, our results show that an increase in Yb34 and a decrease in Er^3+ concentration enhance the color tuning range by P.
