| 1 | Extracellular vesicles in the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system diseases显示文摘Extracellular vesicles,including exosomes and microvesicles,play a fundamental role in the activity of the nervous system,participating in signal transmission between neurons and providing the interaction of central nervous system with all body systems.In many neurodegenerative diseases,neurons pack toxic substances into vesicles and release them into the extracellular space,which leads to the spread of misfolded neurotoxic proteins.The contents of neuron-derived extracellular vesicles may indicate pathological changes in the central nervous system,and the analysis of extracellular vesicle molecular content contributes to the development of non-invasive methods for the diagnosis of many central nervous system diseases.Extracellular vesicles of neuronal origin can be isolated from various biological fluids due to their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.Today,the diagnostic potential of almost all toxic proteins involved in nervous system disease pathogenesis,specificallyα-synuclein,tau protein,superoxide dismutase 1,FUS,leucine-rich repeat kinase 2,as well as some synaptic proteins,has been well evidenced.Special attention is paid to extracellular RNAs mostly associated with extracellular vesicles,which are important in the onset and development of many neurodegenerative diseases.Depending on parental cell type,extracellular vesicles may have different therapeutic properties,including neuroprotective,regenerative,and anti-inflammatory.Due to nano size,biosafety,ability to cross the blood-brain barrier,possibility of targeted delivery and the lack of an immune response,extracellular vesicles are a promising vehicle for the delivery of therapeutic substances for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and drug delivery to the brain.This review describes modern approaches of diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system diseases using extracellular vesicles. | Alisa A.Shaimardanova Valeriya V.Solovyeva Daria S.Chulpanova Victoria James Kristina V.Kitaeva Albert A.Rizvanov | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,4: | 7 |
| 2 | The evolution of integrative medical education: the influence of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine显示文摘The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine(Az CIM) was founded in 1994 with a primary focus of educating physicians in integrative medicine(IM). Twenty years later, IM has become an internationally recognized movement in medicine. With 40% of United States' medical schools having membership in the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health it is foreseeable that all medical students and residents will soon receive training in the principles and practices of IM. The Az CIM has the broadest range and depth of IM educational programs and has had a major infl uence on integrative medical education in the United States. This review describes the fellowship, residency and medical student programs at Az CIM as well as other signifi cant national drivers of IM education; it also points out the challenges faced in developing IM initiatives. The fi eld of IM has matured with new national board certifi cation in IM requiring fellowship training. Allied health professional IM educational courses, as well as integrative health coaching, assure that all members of the health care team can receive training. | 17 | Interaction between climatic, environmental, and demographic factors on cholera outbreaks in Kenya显示文摘Background:Cholera remains an important public health concern in developing countries including Kenya where 11,769 cases and 274 deaths were reported in 2009 according to the World Health Organization(WHO).This ecological study investigates the impact of various climatic,environmental,and demographic variables on the spatial distribution of cholera cases in Kenya.Methods:District-level data was gathered from Kenya’s Division of Disease Surveillance and Response,the Meteorological Department,and the National Bureau of Statistics.The data included the entire population of Kenya from 1999 to 2009.Results:Multivariate analyses showed that districts had an increased risk of cholera outbreaks when a greater proportion of the population lived more than five kilometers from a health facility(RR:1.025 per 1%increase;95%CI:1.010,1.039),bordered a body of water(RR:5.5;95%CI:2.472,12.404),experienced increased rainfall from October to December(RR:1.003 per 1 mm increase;95%CI:1.001,1.005),and experienced decreased rainfall from April to June(RR:0.996 per 1 mm increase;95%CI:0.992,0.999).There was no detectable association between cholera and population density,poverty,availability of piped water,waste disposal methods,rainfall from January to March,or rainfall from July to September.Conclusion:Bordering a large body of water,lack of health facilities nearby,and changes in rainfall were significantly associated with an increased risk of cholera in Kenya. | James D Stoltzfus Jane Y Carter Muge Akpinar-Elci Martin Matu Victoria Kimotho Mark J Giganti Daniel Langat Omur Cinar Elci | 2014 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2014,3,1: | 1 |
