1Outline of the Report on Cardiovascular Disease in China,2010显示文摘Major and profound changes have taken place in China over the past 30 years.Rapid socioeconomic progress has exerted a great impact on lifestyle,ranging from food,clothing,working and living conditions,and means of transportation to leisure activities and entertainment.At the same time,new health problems have emerged,and health services are facing new challenges.Presently,cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the top health problems of the Chinese people,and pose a serious challenge to all engaged in the prevention and control of these diseases.An epidemic of CVD in China is emerging as a result of lifestyle changes,urbanization and longevity.Both national policy decision-making and medical practice urgently need an authoritative report which comprehensively reflects the trends in the epidemic of CVD and current preventive measures.Since 2005,guided by the Bureau of Disease Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China and the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases of China,nationwide experts in the fields of epidemiology,clinical medicine and health economics in the realms of CVD,cerebrovascular disease,diabetes and chronic kidney disease,completed the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China every year.The report aims to provide a timely review of the trend of the epidemic and to assess the progress of prevention and control of CVD.In addition,as the report is authoritative,representative and readable,it will become an information platform in the CVD field and an important reference book for government,academic institutes,medical organizations and clinical physicians.This publication is expected to play a positive role in the prevention and control of CVD in China.We present an abstract from the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China (2010),including trends in CVD,morbidity and mortality of major CVDs,up-to-date assessment of risk factors,as well as health resources for CVD,and a profile of medical expenditure,with the aim of providing evidence for decision-making in CVD prevention and control programs in China,and of delivering the most authoritative information on CVD prevention and control for all citizens.HUSheng Shou KONG Ling Zhi GAO Run Lin ZHU Man Lu WANG Wen WANG Yong Jun WU Zhao Su CHEN Wei Wei LIU Ming Bo For the editorial board 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,3:93

3Night Sleep Duration and Risk of Cognitive Impairment in a Chinese Population: A Cross-sectional Study显示文摘Objective Although sleep is one of the most important health-related behavioral factors,the association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment has not been fully understood.A cross-sectional study was conducted with a random sample of 2,514 participants(≥40 years of age;46.6% women) in China to examine the association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment.Methods Night sleep duration was categorized as ≤ 5,6,7,8,or ≥9 h per night.Cognitive function was measured using the Mini-Mental State Examination.A multivariate regression analysis was used to analyze the association of night sleep duration with cognitive impairment.A total of 122 participants were diagnosed with cognitive impairment.Results A U-shaped association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment was found.The odds ratios(95% confidence intervals) of cognitive impairment(with 7 h of daily sleep being considered as the reference) for individuals reporting ≤ 5,6,8,and ≥9 h were 2.14(1.20-3.83),1.13(0.67-1.89),1.51(0.82-2.79),and 5.37(1.62-17.80),respectively(P≤0.01).Conclusion Short or long night sleep duration was an important sleep-related factor independently associated with cognitive impairment and may be a useful marker for increased risk of cognitive impairment.SONG Qiao Feng LIU Xiao Xue HU Wan Ning HAN Xiao Chen ZHOU Wen Hua LU Ai Dong WANG Xi Zhu WU Shou Ling 2017Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2017,30,10:5
4High Physical Activity is Associated with an Improved Lipid Profile and Resting Heart Rate among Healthy Middle-aged Chinese People显示文摘Objective To investigate the effects of physical activity(PA) on dyslipidemia and elevated resting heart rate(RHR) in a large-scale cross-sectional study in China. Methods We recruited community-based individuals who were 40-60 years old using a cluster sampling method. The PA levels of the participants were classified as low, moderate, or high, using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Dyslipidemia was defined as the detection of abnormalities in lipid indicators, and 4 lipid parameters were evaluated using fasting blood samples. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations of PA with dyslipidemia and RHR. Results A total of 10,321 participants(38.88% men) were included in this study. The percentages of individuals with high, moderate, and low PA levels were 46.5%, 43.9%, and 9.6%, respectively. In both men and women, high PA provided odds ratios of 0.88 [95% confidence interval(CI): 0.83, 0.94] for dyslipidemia and 0.82(95% CI: 0.73, 0.92) for elevated RHR, compared to participants with low PA. 5Effects of Blast Wave-induced Biomechanical Changes on Lung Injury in Rats显示文摘Objective To observe the dynamic impacts of shock waves on the severity of lung injury in rats with different injury distances.Methods Simulate open-field shock waves;detect the biomechanical effects of explosion sources at distances of 40,44,and 48 cm from rats;and examine the changes in the gross anatomy of the lungs,lung wet/dry weight ratio,hemoglobin concentration,blood gas analysis,and pathology.Results Biomechanical parameters such as the overpressure peak and impulse were gradually attenuated with an increase in the injury distance.The lung tissue hemorrhage,edema,oxygenation index,and pathology changed more significantly for the 40 cm group than for the 44 and 48 cm groups.The overpressure peak and impulse were significantly higher for the 40 cm group than for the 44 and 48 cm groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The animal mortality was significantly higher for the 40 cm group than for the other two groups(41.2%vs.17.8%and 10.0%,P<0.05).The healing time of injured lung tissues for the 40 cm group was longer than those for the 44 and 48 cm groups.Conclusions The effects of simulated open-field shock waves on the severity of lung injuries in rats were correlated with the injury distances,the peak overpressure,and the overpressure impulse.LIU Wei CHAI Jia Ke QIN Bin HAN Shao Fang WANG Xiao Teng JIANG Shuai BAI Hai Liang LIU Ling Ying CHANG Yang YUE Xiao Tong WU Yu Shou ZHANG Zi Hao TANG Lang 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,5:2
6The Influence of Diabetes, Hypertension, and Hyperlipidemia on the Onset of Age-Related Macular Degeneration in North China: The Kailuan Eye Study显示文摘Objective To analyze the prevalence of dry and wet age-related macular degeneration(AMD)in patients with diabetes,hypertension and hyperlipidemia,and to analyze the risk factors for AMD.Methods A population-based cross-sectional epidemiologic study was conducted involving 14,440 individuals.We assessed the prevalence of dry and wet AMD in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects and analyzed the risk factors for AMD.Results The prevalence of wet AMD in diabetic and non-diabetic patients was 0.3%and 0.5%,respectively,and the prevalence of dry AMD was 17%and 16.4%,respectively.The prevalence of wet AMD in healthy,hypertensive,hyperlipidemic,and hypertensive/hyperlipidemic populations was 0.5%,0.3%,0.2%,and 0.7%,respectively.The prevalence of dry AMD in healthy,hypertensive,hyperlipidemic,and hypertensive/hyperlipidemic populations was 16.6%,16.2%,15.2%,and 17.2%,respectively.Age,sex,body mass index,and use of hypoglycemic drugs or lowering blood pressure drugs were corrected in the risk factor analysis of AMD.Diabetes,diabetes/hypertension,diabetes/hyperlipidemia,and diabetes/hypertension/hyperlipidemia were analyzed.None of the factors analyzed in the current study increased the risk for the onset of AMD.Conclusion There was no significant difference in the prevalence of wet and dry AMD among diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.Similarly,there was no significant difference in the prevalence of wet and dry AMD among subjects with hypertension and hyperlipidemia.Diabetes co-existing with hypertension and hyperlipidemia were not shown to be risk factors for the onset of dry AMD.ZHANG Yong Peng WANG Ya Xing ZHOU Jin Qiong WANG Qian YAN Yan Ni YANG Xuan YANG Jing Yan ZHOU Wen Jia WANG Ping SHEN Chang YANG Ming LUAN Ya Nan WANG Jin Yuan WU Shou Ling CHEN Shuo Hua WANG Hai Wei FANG Li Jian WAN Qian Qian ZHU Jing Yuan NIE Zi Han CHEN Yu Ning XIE Ying JONAS JB WEI Wen Bin 2022Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2022,35,7:2
7Relationship of Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness and Retinal Vessel Calibers with Cognitive Impairment in the Asymptomatic Polyvascular Abnormalities Population显示文摘Objective Cognitive impairment(CI)in older individuals has a high morbidity rate worldwide,with poor diagnostic methods and susceptible population identification.This study aimed to investigate the relationship between different retinal metrics and CI in a particular population,emphasizing polyvascular status.Methods We collected information from the Asymptomatic Polyvascular Abnormalities Community Study on retinal vessel calibers,retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness,and cognitive function of 3,785participants,aged 40 years or older.Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between retinal metrics and cognitive function.Subgroups stratified by different vascular statuses were also analyzed.Results RNFL thickness was significantly thinner in the CI group(odds ratio:0.973,95%confidence interval:0.953–0.994).In the subgroup analysis,the difference still existed in the non-intracranial arterial stenosis,non-extracranial carotid arterial stenosis,and peripheral arterial disease subgroups(P<0.05).Conclusion A thin RNFL is associated with CI,especially in people with non-large vessel stenosis.The underlying small vessel change in RNFL and CI should be investigated in the future.WANG Dan Dan WANG An Xin ZHANG Xiao Li WEI Wen Bin WU Shou Ling ZHAO Xing Quan 2024Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2024,37,2:0
