1Clinical application of specific antibody against glypican-3 for hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis显示文摘Glypican-3(GPC3) is a promising tumor marker for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) diagnosis with high sensitivity and specificity.The aim of this study was to establish an immunohistochemical detection method for GPC3 using the 7D11 monoclonal antibody(7D11 mAb) and evaluate its application for HCC diagnosis.The feasibility of the 7D11 mAb was evaluated by immunohistochemistry performed on adjacent normal liver and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC) samples,Furthermore,the serum GPC3 levels were evaluated in 40 HCC patients,7 ICC patients and 50 healthy donors.The results showed that GPC3 was expressed in 85% of HCC tissues(34/40),but was undetectable in ICC tissues and adjacent normal tissues.GPC3 was significantly increased in the serum of HCC patients(17/40,42.5%) but was undetectable in the serum of ICC patients(0/7,0%) and healthy donors(0/50,0%).This prospective study evaluated the clinical usefulness of 7D11 mAb for GPC3 detection in HCC patients.In conclusion,the use of 7D11 mAb might be good for GPC3 large-scale applications for clinical diagnosis of HCC.YU JuanPing MA Qiang ZHANG Bin MA RuiJuan XU XiGuang LI MingSong XU WeiWen LI Ming 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,3:18
2Double-stream-pouring technique for production of gradient materials by continuous casting显示文摘A novel method for producing gradient materials by continuous casting is introduced. By using many-stream-pouring technique, samples with gradient distribution of alloy composition along the cross section have been prepared. The main difference of this method from the conventional continuous casting is the pouring system equipped with two sets of tundishes for liquid metals of different alloy compositions. Special consideration is given to the promotion and control of the cross-sectional mass transport. The steady heat transfer and mass flow ensure a partial mixing of two metals and yield a continously varying composition distribution. By adjusting the processing parameters, composition profile with different shapes can be achieved. First experiments have been carried out in Al-Si system and Al-Cu system for three series of Al/AlSi, AlSi/Al and AlCu/Al. It is shown that the alloy composition, the microstructure and the mechanical property change smoothly from the centre to the surface of the samples. 3Comparison of Clinical Efficacy of Three Surgical Methods in the Treatment of Pterygium显示文摘Purpose:To investigate and compare the efficacy of amniotic membrane transplantation,corneal limbus stem cell conjunctival transplantation and pedicle conjunctival flap transposition in the treatment of pterygium.Methods:.A total of 155 patients with pterygium were retrospectively analyted:.53 cases who received amniotic membrane transplantation,.41 who underwent corneal limbus stem cells conjunctival transplantation,and 61 patients who had pedicle conjunctival flap transposition.Results:Patients in the three groups had no significant differences in terms of age,times since surgery,or extent of pterygium extension onto the cornea (F:1.194,0.639,0.140 respectively;all P>0.05)..A total of 137 out of 155 patients (88.4%) completed 6 months of follow up.The recurrence rates of pterygium for the three surgeries (amniotic membrane transplantation,.corneal limbus stem cells conjunctival transplantation and pedicle conjunctival flap transposition) were 14.6%,13.9% and 7.7%,respectively.No significant difference was identified when comparing the recurrence rate between any two groups(X2:.0.008,1.211 and 0.890;P:0.593,0.218 and 0.276)..Five patients presented with postoperative complications,.including 3 cases of sub-conjunctival hemorrhage,1 case of amniotic membrane dissolution,and 1 case of conjunctival cyst,accounting for 3.64% of all participants.Conclusion:These three surgical methods are equally effective in preventing the recurrence of pterygium after excision.Chaoming Yu Weiliang Liang Yongyu Huang Weiwen Guan 2011Eye Science2011,26,4:14
4New evidence for human occupation of the northern Tibetan Plateau,China during the Late Pleistocene显示文摘The described stone artifacts are recovered from the 70 m-high terrace (4600 m a.s.l.) at the southeastern shore of the Siling Co on the northern Tibetan Plateau. The terrace was formed during the Interstadial period before the LGM, ca. 40-30 ka B.P. based on paleoenvironmental research. The Paleoliths from the Siling Co provide evidence for early human occupation of the northern Tibetan Plateau. 5Synthetic biology:Recent progress,biosafety and biosecurity concerns,and possible solutions显示文摘Synthetic biology is a new interdisciplinary research area that uses engineering principles as guidelines for biological investigation.With research goals to modify existing biological systems or to create new ones,the recent applications of synthetic biology have expanded approaches and tools for conventional biological research.In this article,we first briefly review the development and progress of synthetic biology over the past decade.Although the contributions of synthetic biology to basic life science research,human health,environmental protection,and even economic growth have been widely observed,potential biosafety,biosecurity,and ethical risks related to synthetic biology have also emerged in recent years as technology becomes less expensive,more mature,and more accessible.We provide a brief assessment of the risks associated with the possible misuse or abuse of this technology in various areas and discuss concerns from three points of view:biosafety,biosecurity risks,and ethics.Finally,to address challenges arising from the rapid progress of synthetic biology,technical,ethical,and regulatory measures were developed or discussed in recent years,including laboratory level precautionary measures for biosafety and biosecurity related to synthetic biology(such as genetic safeguards and firewalls),ethical codes of conduct for biological scientists,and regulations or oversight rules from personal,national,and international perspectives.A brief summary of these efforts is provided.Fangzhong Wang Weiwen Zhang 2019Journal of Biosafety and Biosecurity2019,1,1:8

7Early Pleistocene hominid teeth recovered in Mohui cave in Bubing Basin, Guangxi, South China显示文摘Two hominid teeth recovered in Mohui cave are morphologically distinguished from Australopithecus in Af-rica, but close to Homo erectus in China. These teeth are therefore provisionally assigned to Homo erectus. The associ-ated mammalian fauna include Gigantopithecus blacki, Nes-toritherium sp., Sus xiaozhu, Sus peii and Ailuropoda microta, which are typical early Pleistocene taxa in South China. The general characteristics of the Mohui faunal assemblage are similar to the Longgupo site, which is dated to 2 Ma, imply-ing a contemporaneity for the two sites. To date, compared with the discoveries in Africa, far fewer early Pleistocene hominid fossils have been recovered in Asia, and there are intensive controversies concerning their stratigraphic prove-nience and typological and temporal positions. 8Deep-learning-powered photonic analogto-digital conversion显示文摘Analog-to-digital converters(ADCs)must be high speed,broadband,and accurate for the development of modern information systems,such as radar,imaging,and communications systems;photonic technologies are regarded as promising technologies for realizing these advanced requirements.Here,we present a deep-learning-powered photonic ADC architecture that simultaneously exploits the advantages of electronics and photonics and overcomes the bottlenecks of the two technologies,thereby overcoming the ADC tradeoff among speed,bandwidth,and accuracy.Via supervised training,the adopted deep neural networks learn the patterns of photonic system defects and recover the distorted data,thereby maintaining the high quality of the electronic quantized data succinctly and adaptively.The numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture outperforms state-ofthe-art ADCs with developable high throughput;hence,deep learning performs well in photonic ADC systems.We anticipate that the proposed architecture will inspire future high-performance photonic ADC design and provide opportunities for substantial performance enhancement for the next-generation information systems.Shaofu Xu Xiuting Zou Bowen Ma Jianping Chen Lei Yu Weiwen Zou 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:8

10Comparison of ground truth location of earthquake from InSAR and from ambient seismic noise: A case study of the 1998 Zhangbei earthquake显示文摘Because ambient seismic noise provides estimated Green's function (EGF) between two sites with high accuracy, Rayleigh wave propagation along the path connecting the two sites is well resolved. Therefore, earthquakes which are close to one seismic station can be well located with calibration extracting from EGF. We test two algorithms in locating the 1998 Zhangbei earthquake, one algorithm is waveform-based, and the other is traveltime-based. We first compute EGF between station ZHB (a station about 40 km away from the epicenter) and five IC/IRIS stations. With the waveform-based approach, we calculate 1D synthetic single-force Green's functions between ZHB and other four stations, and obtain traveltime corrections by correlating synthetic Green's functions with EGFs in period band of 10-30 s. Then we locate the earthquake by minimizing the differential travel times between observed earthquake waveform and the 1D synthetic earthquake waveforms computed with focal mechanism provided by Global CMT after traveltime correction from EGFs. This waveform-based approach yields a location which error is about 13 km away from the location observed with InSAR. With the traveltime-based approach, we begin with measuring group velocity from EGFs as well as group arrival time on observed earthquake waveforms, and then locate the earthquake by minimizing the difference between observed group arrival time and arrival time measured on EGFs. This traveltime-based approach yields accuracy of 3 km, Therefore it is feasible to achieve GT5 (ground truth location with accuracy 5 km) with ambient seismic noises. 12Roles of fishing and climate change in long-term fish species succession and population dynamics in the outer Beibu Gulf,South China Sea显示文摘A prevailing,controversial hypothesis is that fishing pressure has played a greater role than climatic and environmental drivers,in changing fish species succession and biomass fluctuation in the South China Sea(SCS).Based on otter trawl survey data from 1959 to 2010 in the outer Beibu Gulf(OBG),northern SCS,large seasonal and interannual variation is reported for fish species composition,the proportional abundances of dominant taxa,and fish biomass.Generalized additive models are developed to quantify relationships between fish biomass and the external factors of fishing pressure and climate change.Fishing pressure proved to be the main driver of sharp declines in demersal fish stocks,with high-value species being replaced by low-value ones over time.Abrupt decreases in fish biomass during the years of 1993 and 1998 correspond to El Nino events,with climate change possibly the main driver of proportional representation of pelagic species in fisheries trawl catch.The need to differentiate impacts of fishing and environmental drivers on fish species with different life history strategies is stressed to better understand fish community dynamics.Xuehui Wang Yongsong Qiu Feiyan Du Weida Liu Dianrong Sun Xiao Chen Weiwen Yuan Yong Chen 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,10:6
13FoxO directly regulates the expression of TOR/S6K and vitellogenin to modulate the fecundity of the brown planthopper显示文摘As a conserved transcription factor,FoxO plays a crucial role in multiple physiological processes in vivo,including stress resistance,longevity,growth and reproduction.Previous studies on FoxO have focused on human,mouse,Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans,while there are few reports on agricultural pests and little is known about how FoxO modulates insect fecundity.In Asia,the brown planthopper(BPH)Nilaparvata lugens(St?l)is one of the most serious pests in rice production and high fecundity is the basis of the outbreak of BPH.Here,using the genome-wide ChIP-seq of NlFoxO in BPH,we found that NlFoxO binds to the promoters of ribosomal protein S6 kinase(NlS6K)and serine/threonine-protein kinase mTOR(NlTOR)and increases their expression levels.We also found that NlFoxO directly binds to the exon of vitellogenin(NlVg)and has a specific inhibitory effect on its expression.In addition,the number of eggs laid and their hatching rate decreased significantly after injection of NlFoxO double-stranded RNA into BPH adults.Our findings provide direct evidence that FoxO modulates insect fecundity through binding to the promoters of NlS6K,NlTOR and the exon of NlVg and affecting their gene expression in the Vg network.Yi Dong Weiwen Chen Kui Kang Rui Pang Yipei Dong Kai Liu Wenqing Zhang 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,1:6

15A study on the uncertainties of the centroid depth of the 2013 Lushan earthquake from teleseimic body wave data显示文摘Centroid depth of earthquakes is essential for seismic hazard mitigation.But,various studies provided different solutions for the centroid depth of the damaging2013 Lushan earthquake,thus hindering further studies of the earthquake processes.To resolve its centroid depth and assess the uncertainties,we apply the teleseismic cut and paste method to invert for centroid depth with teleseismic body waves in the epicentral distance of 30°–90°.We performed the inversion for P waves only as well the case of both P and SH waves and found that both cases lead to depth solutions with difference less than 0.5 km.We also investigated the effects on depth inversion from azimuth gap of seismic stations,source duration,and corner frequency of filter.These various tests show that even azimuthal distribution of seismic stations is helpful for accurate depth inversion.It is also found that estimate of centroid depth is sensitive to source duration.Moreover,the depth is biased to larger values when corner frequency of low-pass filter is very low.The uncertainty in the velocity model can also generate some error in the depth estimation(*1.0 km).With all the above factors considered,the centroid depth of Lushan earthquake is proposed to be around 12 km,with uncertainty about 2 km.Weiwen Chen Decai Wang Shengji Wei 2013Earthquake Science2013,26,3:6
16Effect of microstructure on the mechanical and corrosion behaviors of a hot-extruded nickel aluminum bronze显示文摘In this paper,the influence of microstructure on the corrosion behavior of a hotextruded nickel aluminum bronze was studied.Three kinds of samples subjected to the hot-extrusion,annealing and quenching conditions were prepared and immersion tests in 3.5% NaCl solution were carried out.Microstructures and corrosion surface morphologies of the samples were observed by SEM.It was found that the retained β martensite and(α+κⅢ) lamella eutectoid in the as hot-extruded material were eliminated after annealing,and corrosion resistance of the alloy was improved.As to the as-quenched material,its corrosion rate was higher than that of the as hotextruded material since the volume fraction of β phase which was anodic to α phase increased after quenching.As regards the mechanical properties,the as-quenched sample possesses the highest hardness and tensile strength among the three kinds of samples,while the as-annealed sample possesses the highest elongation.That is to say,heat treatment plays different roles in the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the experimental alloy.Datong ZHANG Ruiping CHEN Weiwen ZHANG Zongqiang LUO Yuanyuan LI 2010Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2010,23,2:5
17Differential expression of immune-related genes between healthy volunteers and type 2 diabetic patients with spleen-deficiency pattern显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical differentiation of spleen-deficiency pattern(SDP), a group of symptoms and signs defined in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine for its clinical practice.METHODS: Peripheral venous blood(> 3 m L) was collected from each of six type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)-SDP patients and six healthy volunteers. After the isolation of peripheral white blood cells(PWBCs), total RNA was extracted, and quality control was performed on all RNA samples. Microarray experiments were conducted using the Agilent human whole genome gene chip, and genes demonstrating differential expression were screened. Bioinformatics analysis was conducted on these genes using several online databases.RESULTS: We screened a total of 175 differentially expressed genes(DEGs), of which 111(63%) were down-regulated and 64(37%) were up-regulated in T2DM-SDP patients compared with healthy controls. Among the 175 genes, 158 had biological function annotations: 46(29%) were directly related to an individual's immune regulation or response, 25(16%) were associated with substance and energy metabolism of PWBCs which could also indirectly influence immunity, and the remaining87(55%) were involved in a variety of PWBC biological processes that might eventually influence the immune function. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the DEGs were predominantly enriched in seven immune-related pathways. Hierarchical cluster analysis identified gene expression patterns that were distinguishable between the two study groups.CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that T2DM-SDP patients experience significant hypoimmunity and/or immune dysfunctions, and possess a specific gene expression profile. 19Treatment of exfoliative cheilitis with Traditional Chinese Medicine:a systematic review显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To systematically review treatments of exfoliative cheilitis based on symptom patterns in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine.METHODS:Pub Med, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Wanfang data were screened for case reports, case series or clinical trials that were published in English or Chinese from January,1973 to September, 2015.The keyword of 'exfoliative cheilitis or scaling cheilitis or factitious cheilitis' was used.Effectiveness or ineffectiveness was investigated as outcome for Meta analysis, which is based on effective index in each study.Response to treatment was described for case reports or case series.RESULTS:From 38 screened studies, 17 were randomized controlled trials(RCTs), 5 were single-arm trials, and 16 were case reports or case series.Three RCTs were eligible for Meta analysis and all of them compared managements between Traditional Chinese Medicine and corticosteroids for exfoliative cheilitis, which involved 223 participants.Interestingly, data of Meta analysis showed similar effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine and corticosteroids for patients with exfoliative cheilitis [relative risk ratio:1.10; 95% CI(1.00-1.21), P = 0.06].CONCLUSION:Traditional Chinese Medicine might be a substitute for corticosteroids on exfoliative cheilitis.However, the evidence and recommendation of exfoliative cheilitis managements need to be taken with caution because of the low quality of evidence in the studies obtained.Sun Kai Liu Lijun Chen Xiaojie Jiang Weiwen 2017Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,2:4
20Analysis of deformation and internal flow patterns for rising single bubbles in different liquids显示文摘Gas–liquid multiphase flow is a significant phenomenon in chemical processes. The rising behaviors of single bubbles in the quiescent liquids have been investigated but the internal flow patterns and deformation rules of bubbles, which influence the mass transfer efficiency to a large extent, have received much less attention. In this paper, the volume of fluid method was used to calculate the bubble shapes, pressure, velocity distributions,and the flow patterns inside the bubbles. The rising behavior of the bubbles with four different initial diameters,i.e., 3 mm, 5 mm, 7 mm and 9 mm was investigated in four various liquids including water, 61.23% glycerol,86.73% glycerol and 100% glycerol. The results show that the liquid properties and bubble initial diameters have great impacts on bubble shapes. Moreover, flow patterns inside the bubbles with different initial diameters were analyzed and classified into three types under the condition of different bubble shapes. Three correlations for predicting the maximum internal circulation inside the bubbles in 86.73% glycerol were presented and the R-square values were all bigger than 0.98.
