1Synthesis and paste properties of octenyl succinic anhydride modified early Indica rice starch显示文摘Octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) modified early Indica rice starch was prepared in aqueous slurry systems using response surface methodology. The paste properties of the OSA starch were also investigated. Results indicated that the suitable parameters for the preparation of OSA starch from early Indica rice starch were as follows: reaction period 4 h, reaction tem- perature 33.4 °C, pH of reaction system 8.4, concentration of starch slurry 36.8% (in proportion to water, w/w), amount of OSA 3% (in proportion to starch, w/w). The degree of substitution was 0.0188 and the reaction efficiency was 81.0%. 3Inhibition of Excitatory Amino Acid Efflux Contributes to Protective Effects of Puerarin Against Cerebral Ischemia in Rats显示文摘Objective To investigate whether the protective effects of puerarine(Pur)against cerebral ischemia is associated with depressing the extracellular levels of amino acid transmitters in brain of rats.Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to transient middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)for 60 min followed by 24 h reperfusion.Pur(50,100 mg/kg,i.p.)was administered at the onset of MCAO.The infarct rate and edema rate were detected on TTC(2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride)-stained coronal sections.The extracellular levels of amino acid transmitters were monitored in striatum of rats with ischemic/reperfusion injury using in vivo microdialysis technique.Furthermore,the protective effects of Pur against glutamate-induced neurotoxicity were detected.Glutamate-induced apoptotic and necrotic cells in hippocampus were estimated by flow cytometric analysis of Annexin-V and PI labeling cells.Results Pur(100 mg/kg)significantly decreased infarct size by 31.6%(P<0.05),reduced edema volume(P<0.05),and improved neurological functions(P<0.05)following MCAO.In these rats,the ischemia-induced extracellular levels of aspartate(Asp),glutamate(Glu),γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA),and taurine(Tau)were significantly reduced in striatum of vehicle-treated animals by 54.7%,56.7%,75.8%,and 68.1%(P<0.01 and P<0.05).Pur reduced the peak values of Glu and Asp more obviously than those of GABA and Tau,and the rate of Glu/GABA during MCAO markedly decreased in Pur-treated MCAO rats,compared with the vehicle-treated MCAO rats.Meanwhile,apoptosis and necrosis induced by Glu in cultured hippocampal neurons were significantly reduced after Pur treatment.Conclusion Acute treatment with Pur at the onset of occlusion significantly depresses ischemia-induced efflux of amino acids,especially,excitotoxicity in the striatum,a mechanism underlying the neuroprotective effect on cellular survival.XIAO-HONG XU XIAO-XIANG ZHENG QIONG ZHOU HUI LI 2007Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2007,20,4:30
4Spin-decoupled metasurface for simultaneous detection of spin and orbital angular momenta via momentum transformation显示文摘With inherent orthogonality,both the spin angular momentum(SAM)and orbital angular momentum(OAM)of photons have been utilized to expand the dimensions of quantum information,optical communications,and information processing,wherein simultaneous detection of SAMs and OAMs with a single element and a single-shot measurement is highly anticipated.Here,a single azimuthal-quadratic phase metasurface-based photonic momentum transformation(PMT)is illustrated and utilized for vortex recognition.Since different vortices are converted into focusing patterns with distinct azimuthal coordinates on a transverse plane through PMT,OAMs within a large mode space can be determined through a single-shot measurement.Moreover,spin-controlled dual-functional PMTs are proposed for simultaneous SAM and OAM sorting,which is implemented by a single spin-decoupled metasurface that merges both the geometric phase and dynamic phase.Interestingly,our proposed method can detect vectorial vortices with both phase and polarization singularities,as well as superimposed vortices with a certain interval step.Experimental results obtained at several wavelengths in the visible band exhibit good agreement with the numerical modeling.With the merits of ultracompact device size,simple optical configuration,and prominent vortex recognition ability,our approach may underpin the development of integrated and high-dimensional optical and quantum systems.Yinghui Guo Shicong Zhang Mingbo Pu Qiong He Jinjin Jin Mingfeng Xu Yaxin Zhang Ping Gao Xiangang Luo 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4:14

7Double-balloon enteroscopy for mesenchymal tumors of small bowel:Nine years' experience显示文摘AIM:To assess the value of double-balloon enteroscopy(DBE) for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors(GIMTs) in the small bowel and clarify their clinical and endoscopic characteristics.METHODS:A retrospective review in a total of 783 patients who underwent a DBE procedure from January 2003 to December 2011 was conducted.Data from patients with pathologically confirmed GIMTs were analyzed at a single tertiary center with nine years' experience.The primary outcomes assessed included characteristics of patients with GIMTs,indications for DBE,overall diagnostic yield of GIMTs,endoscopic morphology,positive biopsy,comparison of diagnosis with capsule endoscopy,and subsequent interventional management.RESULTS:GIMTs were identified and analyzed in 77 patients.The mean age was 47.74 ± 14.14 years(range:20-77 years),with 63.6% being males.The majority of individuals presented with gastrointestinal bleeding,accounting for 81.8%,followed by abdominal pain,accounting for 10.4%.Small bowel pathologies were found in 71 patients,the detection rate was 92.2%.The diagnostic yield of DBE for GIMTs was 88.3%.DBE was superior to capsule endoscopy in the diagnosis of GIMTs(P = 0.006;McNemar's χ2 test).Gastrointestinal stromal tumor was the most frequent and leiomyoma was the second frequent GIMT.Single and focal lesions were typical of GIMTs,and masses with smooth or unsmooth surface were the most common in the small bowel.GIMTs were removed from all the patients surgically except one patient treated with endoscopic resection.CONCLUSION:DBE is a safe and valuable procedure for patients with suspected GIMTs,and it provides an accurate position for subsequent surgical intervention.Qiong He Yang Bai Fa-Chao Zhi Wei Gong Hong-Xiang Gu Zhi-Min Xu Jian-Qun Cai De-Shou Pan Bo Jiang 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,11:11
8Shrubs proliferated within a six-year exclosure in a temperate grassland—Spatiotemporal relationships between vegetation and soil variables显示文摘Overgrazing has been considered one of the major causes that trigger shrub encroachment of grassland.Proliferation of shrubs in grassland is recognized as an important indicator of grassland degradation and desertification.In China,various conservation measures,including enclosures to reduce livestock grazing,have been taken to reverse the trend of grassland desertification,yet shrubs have been reported to increase in the grasslands over the past decades.In late 2007,we set up a 400-m-by-50-m exclosure in a long-term overgrazed temperate grassland in Inner Mongolia,with the objective to quantify the spatiotemporal relationship between vegetation dynamics,soil variables,and grazing exclusion.Soil moisture was continuously monitored within the exclosure,and cover and aboveground biomass of the shrubs were measured inside the exclosure in 2007,2009,2010,2012,and 2013,and outside the exclosure in 2012 and 2013.We found the average shrub cover and biomass significantly increased in the six years by 103% and 120%,respectively.The result supported the hypothesis that releasing grazing pressure following long-term overgrazing tends to trigger shrub invasion into grassland.Our results,limited to a single gradient,suggest that any conservation measures with quick release of overgrazing pressure by enclosure or other similar means might do just the opposite to accelerate shrub encroachment in grassland.The changes in vegetation cover and biomass were regressed on the temporal average of the soil moisture content by means of the generalized least square technique to quantify the effect of the spatial autocorrelation.The result indicates that the grass cover and biomass significantly increased with the top,but decreased with the bottom layer soil moisture.The shrub cover and biomass,on the other hand,decreased with the top,but increased with bottom soil moisture,although the regression coefficients for the shrubs were not statistically significant.Hence this study supports the two-layered soil model which assumes grasses and shrubs use belowground resources in different depths.Yong Zhang Qiong Gao Li Xu Mei Yu YuQiang Tian 2014Research in Cold and Arid Regions2014,6,2:11
9Science Letters:IGFBP7 plays a potential tumor suppressor role against colorectal carcinogenesis with its expression associated with DNA hypomethylation of exon 1显示文摘Insulin-like growth factor binding-protein-7 (IGFBP7) was obtained from our previous colonic adenocarcinoma (CRC) and normal mucosa suppression subtraction hybridization (SSH) cDNA libraries. By RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry, we found that IGFBP7 was overexpressed in CRC tissue compared to normal tissue. However, our in vitro experiments performed in 10 CRC cell lines showed that IGFBP7 expressed only in SW480 and Caco2 cell lines, which implied an underlying reversible regulatory mechanism. Using methylation-specific PCR (MSP) and bisulfite sodium PCR (BSP), we found that its expression was associated with DNA hypomethylation of exon1. This was further supported by the in vitro study which showed restored IGFBP7 expression after demethylation agent 5-aza-2’-deoxycytidine treatment. Correlation analysis between IGFBP7 expression and prognosis indicated that overexpression of IGFBP7 in CRC tissue correlated with favourable survival. Investigation of the func-tional role of IGFBP7 through transfection studies showed that IGFBP7 protein could inhibit growth rate, decrease colony for-mation activity, and induce apoptosis in RKO and SW620 cells, suggesting it a potential tumor suppressor protein in colorectal carcinogenesis. 10Microstructure evolution of AZ91 alloy processed by a combination method of equal channel angular pressing and rolling显示文摘In the present work,AZ91 alloy was successfully processed by equal channel angular pressing(ECAP)for up to 16 passes and rolling(R)for multiple passes with a total reduction of 75%in addition to a combination method with ECAP plus rolling(ECAP+R).The effects of various processes(ECAP,R and ECAP+R)on microstructure evolution were analyzed and the influence of ECAP process on the rolling performance was examined.The result shows that ECAP contributed to a homogenous grain structure and formed a texture with higher Schmidt factors that was easy for rolling.A plate with smoother surface and reduced edge cracks was observed in the ECAP+R process than in the single R process.Although the microstructure of the alloy was similar after ECAP+R and R process,the sample of ECAP+R was more refined and had stronger second phase precipitation than the sample of R,which resulted in better rolling characteristics,along with the external surfaces.Qiong Xu Aibin Ma Yuhua Li Jiapeng Sun Yuchun Yuan Jinghua Jiang Chaoying Ni 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,1:10
11Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt combined with esophagogastric variceal embolization in the treatment of a large gastrorenal shunt显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) combined with stomach and esophageal variceal embolization(SEVE) in cirrhotic patients with a large gastrorenal vessel shunt(GRVS).METHODS: Eighty-one cirrhotic patients with gastric variceal bleeding(GVB) associated with a GRVS were enrolled in the study and accepted TIPS combined with SEVE(TIPS + SEVE), by which portosystemic pressuregradient(PPG), biochemical, TIPS-related complications, shunt dysfunction, rebleeding, and death were evaluated. RESULTS: The PPGs before TIPS were greater than 12 mmH g in 81 patients. TIPS + SEVE treatment caused a significant decrease in PPG(from 37.97 ± 6.36 mmH g to 28.15 ± 6.52 mm Hg, t = 19.22, P < 0.001). The percentage of reduction in PPG was greater than 20%from baseline. There were no significant differences in albumin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, bilirubin, prothrombin time, or Child-Pugh score before and after operation. In all patients, rebleeding rates were 3%, 6%, 12%, 18%, and 18% at 1,3, 6, 12, and 18 mo, respectively. Five patients(6.2%)were diagnosed as having hepatic encephalopathy. The rates of shunt dysfunction were 0%, 4%, 9%, 26%,and 26%, at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 mo, respectively. 12Involvement of phosphatase and tensin homolog-induced putative kinase 1–Parkin-mediated mitophagy in septic acute kidney injury显示文摘Background:Studies have reported mitophagy activation in renal tubular epithelial cells(RTECs)in acute kidney injury(AKI).Phosphatase and tensin homolog-induced putative kinase 1(PINK1)and E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase Parkin are involved in mitophagy regulation;however,little is known about the role of PINK1-Parkin mitophagy in septic AKI.Here we investigated whether the PINK1-Parkin mitophagy pathway is involved in septic AKI and its effects on cell apoptosis in vitro and on renal functions in vivo.Methods:Mitophagy-related gene expression was determined using Western blot assay in human RTEC cell line HK-2 stimulated with bacterial lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and in RTECs from septic AKI rats induced by cecal ligation and perforation(CLP).Autophagy-related ultrastructural features in rat RTECs were observed using electron microscopy.Gain-and loss-of-function approaches were performed to investigate the role of the PINK1-Parkin pathway in HK-2 cell mitophagy.Autophagy activators and inhibitors were used to assess the effects of mitophagy modulation on cell apoptosis in vitro and on renal functions in vivo.Results:LPS stimulation could significantly induce LC3-II and BECN-1 protein expression(LC3-II:1.72±0.05 vs.1.00±0.05,P<0.05;BECN-1:5.33±0.57 vs.1.00±0.14,P<0.05)at 4 h in vitro.Similarly,LC3-II,and BECN-1 protein levels were significantly increased and peaked at 2 h after CLP(LC3-II:3.33±0.12 vs.1.03±0.15,P<0.05;BECN-1:1.57±0.26 vs.1.02±0.11,P<0.05)in vivo compared with those after sham operation.Mitochondrial deformation and mitolysosome-mediated mitochondria clearance were observed in RTECs from septic rats.PINK1 knockdown significantly attenuated LC3-II protein expression(1.35±0.21 vs.2.38±0.22,P<0.05),whereas PINK1 overexpression markedly enhanced LC3-II protein expression(2.07±0.21 vs.1.29±0.19,P<0.05)compared with LPS-stimulated HK-2 cells.LPS-induced proapoptotic protein expression remained unchanged in autophagy activator-treated HK-2 cells and was significantly attenuated in PINK1-overexpressing cells,but was remarkably upregulated in autophagy inhibitor-treated and in PINK1-depleted cells.Consistent results were observed in flow cytometric apoptosis assay and in renal function indicators in rats.Conclusion:PINK1-Parkin-mediated mitophagy might play a protective role in septic AKI,serving as a potential therapeutic target for septic AKI.Xin-Gui Dai Wei Xu Tao Li Jia-Ying Lu Yang Yang Qiong Li Zhen-Hua Zeng Yu-Hang Ai 2019Chinese Medical Journal2019,,19:9
13Effect of intravariceal sclerotherapy combined with esophageal mucosal sclerotherapy using small-volume sclerosant for cirrhotic patients with high variceal pressure显示文摘AIM:To explore the effect of intravariceal-mucosal sclerotherapy using small dose of sclerosant on the recurrence of esophageal varices.METHODS:We randomly assigned 38 cirrhotic patients with previous variceal bleeding and high variceal pressure(> 15.2 mm Hg) to receive endoscopic variceal ligation(EVL) and combined intravariceal and esophageal mucosal sclerotherapy(combined group) using small-volume sclerosant.The end-points of the study were rebleeding and recurrence of esophageal varices.RESULTS:During a median follow-up period of 16 mo,varices recurred in 1 patient in the combined group as compared with 7 patients in the EVL group(P =0.045).Rebleeding occurred in 3 patients in the EVL group as compared with 1 patient in the combined group(P=0.687).No patient died in the two groups.No significant differences were observed between the two groups with respect to serious adverse events.CONCLUSION:Intravariceal-mucosal sclerotherapy using small dose of sclerosant is more effective than EVL in decreasing the incidence of variceal recurrence for cirrhotic patients.De-Run Kong Jin-Guang Wang Chen Chen Fang-Fang Yu Qiong Wu Jian-Ming Xu 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,9:9
14TET1 knockdown inhibits the odontogenic differentiation potential of human dental pulp cells显示文摘Human dental pulp cells(h DPCs) possess the capacity to differentiate into odontoblast-like cells and generate reparative dentin in response to exogenous stimuli or injury. Ten–eleven translocation 1(TET1) is a novel DNA methyldioxygenase that plays an important role in the promotion of DNA demethylation and transcriptional regulation in several cell lines. However, the role of TET1 in the biological functions of h DPCs is unknown. To investigate the effect of TET1 on the proliferation and odontogenic differentiation potential of h DPCs, a recombinant sh RNA lentiviral vector was used to knock down TET1 expression in h DPCs.Following TET1 knockdown, TET1 was significantly downregulated at both the m RNA and protein levels. Proliferation of the h DPCs was suppressed in the TET1 knockdown groups. Alkaline phosphatase activity, the formation of mineralized nodules,and the expression levels of DSPP and DMP1 were all reduced in the TET1-knockdown h DPCs undergoing odontogenic differentiation. 16Phytoavailability of Copper, Zinc and Cadmium in Sewage Sludge-Amended Calcareous Soils显示文摘The toxicity of trace elements (TEs), such as copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd), often restrict land application of sewage sludge (SS) and there was little information about soil-plant transfer of TEs in SS from field experiments in China. In this study pot and field experiments were carried out for 2 years to investigate the phytoavailability of TEs in calcareous soils amended with SS. The results of the pot experiment showed that the phytoavailability of Zn and Cu in the SS was equal to 53.4%-80.9% and 54.8%-91.1% of corresponding water-soluble metal salts, respectively. The results from the field experiment showed that the contents of total Zn, Cu, and Cd in the soils increased linearly with SS application rates. With increasing SS application rates, the contents of Zn and Cu in the wheat grains initially increased and then reached a plateau, while there was no significant change of Cd content in the maize grains. The bioconcentration factors of the metals in the grains of wheat and maize were found to be in the order of Zn > Cu > Cd, but for the straw the order was Cd > Cu > Zn. It was also found that wheat grains could accumulate more metals compared with maize grains. 17Combination of acoustic radiation force impulse imaging, serological indexes and contrast-enhanced ultrasound for diagnosis of liver lesions显示文摘AIM To assess the value of combined acoustic radiation force impulse(ARFI) imaging, serological indexes and contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) in distinguishing between benign and malignant liver lesions. METHODS Patients with liver lesions treated at our hospital were included in this study. The lesions were divided into either a malignant tumor group or a benign tumor group according to pathological or radiological findings. ARFI quantitative detection, serological testing and CEUS quantitative detection were performed and compared. A comparative analysis of the measured indexes was performed between these groups. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were constructed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of ARFI imaging, serological indexes and CEUS, alone or in different combinations, in identifying benign and malignant liver lesions. RESULTS A total of 112 liver lesions in 43 patients were included, of which 78 were malignant and 34 were benign. Shear wave velocity(SWV) value, serum alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) content and enhancement rate were significantly higher in the malignant tumor group than in the benign tumor group(2.39 ± 1.20 m/s vs 1.50 ± 0.49 m/s, 18.02 ± 5.01 ng/m L vs 15.96 ± 4.33 ng/m L, 2.14 ± 0.21 d B/s vs 2.01 ± 0.31 d B/s; P < 0.05). The ROC curve analysis revealed that the areas under the curves(AUCs) of SWV value alone, AFP content alone, enhancement rate alone, SWV value + AFP content, SWV value + enhancement rate, AFP content + enhancement rate and SWV value + AFP content + enhancement rate were 85.1%, 72.1%, 74.5%, 88.3%, 90.4%, 82.0% and 92.3%, respectively. The AUC of SWV value + AFP content + enhancement rate was higher than those of SWV value + AFP content and SWV value + enhancement rate, and significantly higher than those of any single parameter or the combination of any two of parameters.CONCLUSION The combination of SWV, AFP and enhancement rate had better diagnostic performance in distinguishing between benign and malignant liver lesions than the use of any single parameter or the combination of any two of parameters. 18Laboratory Evaluation of the Molluscicidal Activity of Pulsatilla Chinensis(Bunge)Regel Saponins against the Snail Oncomelania Hupensis显示文摘Objective To observe the toxicity of Pulsatilla chinensis(Bunge) Regel saponins(PRS) against Oncomelania hupensis(O.hupensis).Methods O.hupensis snails were exposed to 40% and 80% of 24 h LC50 of PRS for 24 h,and then choline esterase(CHE),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activities in cephalopodium and liver of snails were determined.Niclosamide(NIC) was used as the reference molluscicide.Zebra fish lethality test was evaluated to non-target aquatic species of PRS.Results The molluscicidal activity of PRS(LC50 at 24 h:0.48 mg/L) was similar to that of NIC(LC50 at 24 h:0.16 mg/L).Significant alterations about CHE,ALP,and ALT activities both in the cephalopodium and the liver of snails were observed when O.hupensis was exposed to 40% and 80% LC50 of PRS or NIC for 24 h.PRS and NIC could not affect LDH activity in the cephalopodium and the liver.Lower toxicity to fish of PRS was observed up to the highest concentration tested than NIC.Conclusion PRS,as compared with the reference molluscicide NIC,is thought to be used for the control of harmful vector snails safely.CHEN Yan Qin XU Qiong Ming LIU Yan Li LI Xiao Ran YANG Shi Lin ZHUGE Hong Xiang 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2:8

20Expression of p53, p16 and COX-2 in pancreatic cancer with tissue microarray显示文摘BACKGROUND: Pancreatic cancer development and progression is driven by the accumulation of genetic changes. In this study we constructed tissue microarray containing specimens from pancreatic cancer, adjacent non-cancer tissue and normal tissue to survey the expression of p53, p16 and cyclooxyganase-2 (COX-2). METHODS: Tissue microarray containing 337 specimens from different stages of pancreatic cancer, adjacent noncancer tissue and normal tissues was constructed, and the expression of p53, p16 and COX-2 was assayed by immunohistochemistry to consecutive formalin-fixed tissue microarray sections. RESULTS: The expression of p53, p16 and COX-2 was significantly higher in tumorous tissues than in non-tumorons ones. A significant relationship was observed between p53 and COX-2, or p16 and COX-2. But no obvious correlation was seen between p53 and p16 expressions. Logistic regression analysis showed p53 and COX-2 as dependent predictors in pancreatic carcinogenesis, and a reciprocal relationship to neoplastic progression between p53 and COX-2.
