An Improved Dynamic Core for a Non-hydrostatic Model System on the Yin-Yang Grid显示文摘A 3D dynamic core of the non-hydrostatic model GRAPES(Global/Regional Assimilation and Prediction System) is developed on the Yin-Yang grid to address the polar problem and to enhance the computational efficiency. Three-dimensional Coriolis forcing is introduced to the new core, and full representation of the Coriolis forcing makes it straightforward to share code between the Yin and Yang subdomains. Similar to that in the original GRAPES model, a semi-implicit semi-Lagrangian scheme is adopted for temporal integration and advection with additional arrangement for cross-boundary transport. Under a non-centered second-order temporal and spatial discretization, the dry nonhydrostatic frame is summarized as the solution of an elliptical problem. The resulting Helmholtz equation is solved with the Generalized Conjugate Residual solver in cooperation with the classic Schwarz method. Even though the coefficients of the equation are quite different from those in the original model, the computational procedure of the new core is just the same. The bi-cubic Lagrangian interpolation serves to provide Dirichlet-type boundary conditions with data transfer between the subdomains. The dry core is evaluated with several benchmark test cases, and all the tests display reasonable numerical stability and computing performance. Persistency of the balanced flow and development of both the mountain-induced Rossby wave and Rossby–Haurwitz wave confirms the appropriate installation of the 3D Coriolis terms in the semi-implicit semi-Lagrangian dynamic core on the Yin-Yang grid. | LI Xiaohan PENG Xindong LI Xingliang | 2015 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,5: | 11
Process and challenges of stainless steel based bipolar plates for proton exchange membrane fuel cells显示文摘Proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)powered automobiles have been recognized to be the ultimate solution to replace traditional fuel automobiles because of their advantages of PEMFCs such as no pollution, low temperature start-up,high energy density, and low noise. As one of the core components, the bipolar plates(BPs)play an important role in the PEMFC stack.Traditional graphite BPs and composite BPs have been criticized for their shortcomings such as low strength, high brittleness, and high processing cost.In contrast, stainless steel BPs(SSBPs)have recently attracted much attention of domestic and foreign researchers because of their excellent comprehensive performance, low cost, and diverse options for automobile applications. However, the SSBPs are prone to corrosion and passivation in the PEMFC working environment, which lead to reduced output power or premature failure. This review is aimed to summarize the corrosion and passivation mechanisms, characterizations and evaluation, and the surface modification technologies in the current SSBPs research. The non-coating and coating technical routes of SSBPs are demonstrated, such as substrate component regulation, thermal nitriding, electroplating, ion plating, chemical vapor deposition, and physical vapor deposition, etc.Alternative coating materials for SSBPs are metal coatings, metal nitride coatings, conductive polymer coatings, and polymer/carbon coatings, etc. Both the surface modification technologies can solve the corrosion resistance problem of stainless steel without affecting the contact resistance, however still facing restraints such as long-time stability, feasibility of low-cost,and mass production process. This paper is believed to enrich the knowledge of high-performance and long-life BPs applied for PEMFC automobiles. | Gaoyang Liu Faguo Hou Shanlong Peng Xindong Wang Baizeng Fang | 2022 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,5: | 4

Long-Term Integration of a Global Non-Hydrostatic Atmospheric Model on an Aqua Planet显示文摘A global non-hydrostatic atmospheric model, i.e., GRAPES_YY(Global/Regional Assimilation and Prediction System on the Yin–Yang grid), with a semi-implicit semi-Lagrangian(SISL) dynamical core developed on the Yin–Yang grid was coupled with the physical parameterization package of the operational version of GRAPES. A3.5-yr integration was carried out on an aqua planet to assess the numerical performance of this non-hydrostatic model relative to other models. Specific aspects of precipitation and general circulation under two different sea surface temperature(SST) conditions(CONTROL and FLAT) were analyzed. The CONTROL SST peaked at the equator. The FLAT SST had its maximum gradient at about 20° latitude, giving a broad equatorial SST maximum in the tropics and flat profile approaching the equator. The tropical precipitation showed different propagation features in the CONTROL and FLAT simulations. The CONTROL showed tropical precipitation bands moving eastward with some envelopes of westward convective-scale disturbance. Less organized westward-propagating rainfall cells and bands were seen in the FLAT and the propagation of the tropical wave varied with the SST gradient. The Inter Tropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ), Hadley cell, and westerly jet core were weaker and more poleward as the SST profile flattened from the CONTROL to FLAT. The climatological structures simulated by GRAPES_YY, such as the distribution of precipitation and the large-scale circulation, fell within the bounds from other models. The stronger ITCZ precipitation, accompanied with stronger Hadley cells and convective heating in the CONTROL simulation, may be summed up as a result of stronger parameterized convection and the non-hydrostatic effects in GRAPES_YY. In addition, mechanism of the zonal mean circulation maintaining is analyzed for the different SST patterns referring the transient eddy flux. | Xiaohan LI Xindong PENG | 2018 | Journal of Meteorological Research2018,32,4: | 4
Novel Au nanoparticles-inlaid titanium paper for PEM water electrolysis with enhanced interfacial electrical conductivity显示文摘Proton-exchange membrane water electrolysis(PEM WE)is a particularly promising technology for renewable hydrogen produc-tion.However,the excessive passivation of the gas diffusion layer(GDL)will seriously affect the high surface-contact resistance and result in energy losses. Thus,a mechanism for improving the conductivity and interface stability of the GDL is an urgent issue. In this work,we have prepared a hydrophilic and corrosion resistant conductive composite protective coating. The polydopamine(PDA)film on the Ti surface, which was obtained via the solution oxidation method, ensured that neither micropores nor pinholes existed in the final hybrid coatings.In-situ reduced gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)improved the conductivity to achieve the desired interfacial contact resistance and further enhanced the corrosion resistance. The surface composition of the treated samples was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmis-sion electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The results indicated that the optimized reaction conditions included a pH value of 3 of HAuCl_(4) solution with PDA deposition(48 h)on papers and revealed the lowest con-tact resistance(0.5 mΩ·cm^(2))and corrosion resistance(0.001μA·cm^(−2))in a 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4)+2 ppm F−solution(1.7 V vs.RHE)among all the modified specimens, where RHE represents reversible hydrogen electrode. These findings indicated that the Au-PDA coating is very appropriate for the modification of Ti GDLs in PEM WE systems. | Yue Liu Shaobo Huang Shanlong Peng Heng Zhang Lifan Wang Xindong Wang | 2022 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,5: | 2

Sustainable preparation and characterization of thermally stable and functional cellulose nanocrystals and nanofibrils via formic acid hydrolysis显示文摘In this work,a sustainable method to prepare functional cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs)and cellulose nanofibrils(CNFs)using formic acid(FA)(a recoverable organic acid)was established. After FA hydrolysis, the obtained CNCs could be well dispersed in DMAC.Thus, the CNC products and fibrous cellulosic solid residue(FCSR)in DMAC could be easily separated by a conventional centrifugal process, and the collected FCSR could be further fibrillated to CNFs with relatively low-intensity mechanical fibrillation process. The isolated CNC products showed high crystallinity index(about 75%)and excellent thermal stability(with onset thermal degradation temperature of 325℃).Both the resultant CNCs and CNFs showed better dispersibility in DMSO,DMF and DMAC respectively because of the introduction of ester groups on the surface of the products. The presence of surface ester groups could increase the interface compatibility of nanocelluloses with polymeric matrices and enable their applications in reinforcing polymeric matrix materials(e.g.the composite films like PHVB+CNFs). | Haishun Du Chao Liu Dong Wang Yuedong Zhang Guang Yu Chuanling Si Bin Li Xindong Mu Hui Peng | 2017 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2017,2,1: | 1

Fourth-Order Conservative Transport on Overset Grids Using Multi-Moment Constrained Finite Volume Scheme for Oceanic Modeling显示文摘With an increase in model resolution, compact high-order numerical advection scheme can improve its effectiveness and competitiveness in oceanic modeling due to its high accuracy and scalability on massive-processor computers. To provide high-quality numerical ocean simulation on overset grids,we tried a novel formulation of the fourth-order multi-moment constrained finite volume scheme to simulate continuous and discontinuous problems in the Cartesian coordinate.Utilizing some degrees of freedom over each cell and derivatives at the cell center,we obtained a two-dimensional(2D)cubic polynomial from which point values on the extended overlap can achieve fourth-order accuracy. However, this interpolation causes a lack of conservation because the flux between the regions are no longer equal;thus,a flux correction is implemented to ensure conservation.A couple of numerical experiments are presented to evaluate the numerical scheme, which confirms its approximately fourth-order accuracy in conservative transportation on overset grid. The test cases reveal that the scheme is effective to suppress numerical oscillation in discontinuous problems, which may be powerful for salinity advection computing with a sharp gradient. | GU Juan PENG Xindong DAI Yongjiu CHE Yuzhang | 2020 | Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,4: | 0

Biomimetic three-dimensional multilevel nanoarray electrodes with superaerophobicity as efficient bifunctional catalysts for electrochemical water splitting显示文摘The design and preparation of cost-effective and durable catalysts for electrochemical water splitting are significant for the development and application of hydrogen production.Herein, inspired by the underwater superaerophobicity of fish scales,a three-dimensional multilevel nanoarray electrode with superaerophobicity was designed and fabricated by the hydrothermal method to solve the bubble shielding effect in electrochemical reactions.Benefiting from the high specific surface area, superaerophobic properties,Al doping, the Al-CoS_(2)nanosheets(NSs)/nickel foam(NF)-30 exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic activity and superior durability for electrochemical water splitting in 1 M KOH.Significantly, the Al-CoS_(2)NSs/NF-30 only required extremely low overpotential of 176 mV for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)to reach a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2).Al-CoS_(2)NSs/NF-30 was employed as bifunctional electrode for electrochemical water splitting with a cell voltage of 1.58 V at 10 mA·cm^(-2).Meanwhile,Al-CoS_(2) NSs/NF-30 exhibited excellent durability(250 h@10 mA·cm^(-2)and 50 h@100 mA·cm^(-2)).The cobalt-based catalyst(Al-CoS_(2) NSs/NF-30)with superaerophobicity exhibits excellent performance in activity and durability, therefore is a promising electrochemical water splitting catalyst. | Dongdong Wang Yue Liu Lili Liu Dongfang Shan Guixin Shen Shanlong Peng Heng Zhang Xindong Wang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,5: | 0
Impact of Revised Trigger and Closure of the Double-Plume Convective Parameterization on Precipitation Simulations over East Asia显示文摘A double-plume convective parameterization scheme is revised to improve the precipitation simulation of a global model(Global-to-Regional Integrated Forecast System;GRIST).The improvement is achieved by considering the effects of large-scale dynamic processes on the trigger of deep convection. The closure, based on dynamic CAPE,is improved accordingly to allow other processes to consume CAPE under the more restricted convective trigger condition. The revised convective parameterization is evaluated with a variable-resolution model setup(110–35 km,refined over East Asia). The Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project(AMIP)simulations demonstrate that the revised convective parameterization substantially delays the daytime precipitation peaks over most land areas, leading to an improved simulated diurnal cycle, evidenced by delayed and less frequent afternoon precipitation.Meanwhile, changes to the threshold of the trigger function yield a small impact on the diurnal amplitude of precipitation because of the consistent setting of dCAPE-based trigger and closure. The simulated mean precipitation remains reasonable, with some improvements evident along the southern slopes of the Tibetan Plateau. The revised scheme increases convective precipitation at the lower levels of the windward slope and reduces the large-scale precipitation over the upper slope, ultimately shifting the rainfall peak southward, which is in better agreement with the observations. | Xiaohan LI Yi ZHANG Yanluan LIN Xindong PENG Baiquan ZHOU Panmao ZHAI Jian LI | 2023 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2023,40,7: | 0
