| 1 | Upregulation of Chemokine CXCL12 in the Dorsal Root Ganglia and Spinal Cord Contributes to the Development and Maintenance of Neuropathic Pain Following Spared Nerve Injury in Rats显示文摘Emerging evidence indicates that CXCL12/CXCR4 signaling is involved in chronic pain. However, few studies have systemically assessed its role in direct nerve injury-induced neuropathic pain and the underlying mechanism. Here, we determined that spared nerve injury(SNI)increased the expression of CXCL12 and its cognate receptor CXCR4 in lumbar 5 dorsal root ganglia(DRG)neurons and satellite glial cells. SNI also induced longlasting upregulation of CXCL12 and CXCR4 in the ipsilateral L4–5 spinal cord dorsal horn, characterized by CXCL12 expression in neurons and microglia, and CXCR4 expression in neurons and astrocytes. Moreover, SNIinduced a sustained increase in TNF-a expression in the DRG and spinal cord. Intraperitoneal injection(i.p.) of the TNF-a synthesis inhibitor thalidomide reduced the SNI-induced mechanical hypersensitivity and inhibited the expression of CXCL12 in the DRG and spinal cord.Intrathecal injection(i.t.) of the CXCR4 antagonist AMD3100, both 30 min before and 7 days after SNI,reduced the behavioral signs of allodynia. Rats given an i.t.or i.p. bolus of AMD3100 on day 8 of SNI exhibited attenuated abnormal pain behaviors. The neuropathic pain established following SNI was also impaired by i.t. administration of a CXCL12-neutralizing antibody. Moreover,repetitive i.t. AMD3100 administration prevented the activation of ERK in the spinal cord. The mechanical hypersensitivity induced in na?¨ve rats by i.t. CXCL12 was alleviated by pretreatment with the MEK inhibitor PD98059. | 5 | Analysis of factors affecting the prognosis of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization for hepatitis B-related hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Objectives:The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic factors for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)for hepatitis B-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Materials and methods:The variables that may affect overall survival(OS),such as age,gender,AFP,Child Pugh classification,body mass index,HBV-DNA,Hbe Ag,tumor number,tumor diameter,BCLC stage,embolization method,ablation therapy,and targeted therapy,were analyzed by single factor and many factor COX regression.In addition,predictive factors of OS were stratified and a Kaplan-Meier survival curve was drawn.Results:Among the 136 patients,the median follow-up time was 14.5 months(range:2–72 months).HCC patients with the tumor diameter<3 cm had the highest survival rate,followed by patients with a tumor diameter of 3–5 cm;the survival rate of patients with the tumor diameter(greater than 5 cm)was the lowest.Among the BCLC stages,stage A patients had the highest survival rate,followed by stage B and stage C patients,which had the lowest survival rate.The survival rate of Child Pugh grade A patients was higher than those with Child Pugh grade B.Compared with patients who did not undergo ablation treatment,the survival rate of patients with combined ablation treatment was relatively high.The survival rate of patients receiving drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization(DEB-TACE)treatment was higher than those receiving conventional transarterial chemoembolization(c TACE)treatment.Additionally,repeated TACE treatment improved the OS rate of patients.These six factors were related to patient prognosis and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:Tumor diameter,BCLC stage,TACE repetition,and TACE combined with ablation were independent prognostic factors of OS. | Jiangping Cun Yonghui Xu Weidong Li Xingxiang Zhao | 2021 | Journal of Interventional Medicine2021,4,2: | 7 |
| 6 | Correlation between the cumulative analgesic effect of electroacupuncture intervention and synaptic plasticity of hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus neurons in rats with sciatica显示文摘In the present study, a rat model of chronic neuropathic pain was established by ligation of the sciatic nerve and a model of learning and memory impairment was established by ovariectomy to investigate the analgesic effect of repeated electroacupuncture stimulation at bilateral Zusanli (ST36) and Yanglingquan (GB34). In addition, associated synaptic changes in neurons in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus were examined. Results indicate that the thermal pain threshold (paw withdrawal latency) was significantly increased in rats subjected to 2-week electroacupuncture intervention compared with 2-day electroacupuncture, but the analgesic effect was weakened remarkably in ovariectomized rats with chronic constrictive injury. 2-week electroacupuncture intervention substantially reversed the chronic constrictive injury-induced increase in the synaptic cleft width and thinning of the postsynaptic density. | 10 | Acute carbon monoxide poisoning in Shandong, China: an observational study显示文摘Background: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning remains a major cause of accidental injuries and multiple studies have indicated that CO is also associated with significantly severe or long-term toxicity to the central nervous system. Given that CO poisoning causes serious morbidity and mortality, a better understanding of epidemiological features and clinical characteristics of acute CO poisoning in China is crucial.Methods: We collected the clinical data of acute CO poisoning in patients between November 2019 and April 2020 across Shandong province, China and analyzed its characteristics focusing on the weekly amount and the severity of the confirmed cases.Results: A total number of 21,088 acute CO poisoning cases were diagnosed. The overall incidence of acute CO poisoning was approximately 0.021%. On severity rankings, 63% of confirmed cases (n=13,378) were mild, 27%(n=5635) were moderate, and 10% (n=2075) were severe. Interestingly, the coastal cities had more confirmed cases than the inland/suburban areas in Shandong. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases was negatively correlated with the local mean daily temperature (P=0.0167).Conclusions: Mild acute CO poisoning cases accounted for the majority of all confirmed cases during the winter of 2019. In ovariectomized rats with chronic constriction injury, the analgesic effect was significantly reduced. Electroacupuncture for 2 weeks significantly diminished the injury-induced increase in synaptic cleft width and thinning of the postsynaptic density, and it significantly suppressed the down-regulation of intracellular calcium/ calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II expression in the hippocampal CA3 region. | 13 | Phosphate recovery from anaerobic digester effluents using CaMg(OH)_4显示文摘Dolomite lime(DL)(CaMg(OH)_4) was used as an economical source of Mg^(2+)for the removal and recovery of phosphate from an anaerobic digester effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant(MWWTP) wastewater. Batch precipitation results determined that phosphate was effectively reduced from 87 to less than 4 mg-P/L when the effluent water was mixed with 0.3 g/L of DL. The competitive precipitation mechanisms of different solids in the treatment system consisting of Ca^(2+)–Mg^(2+)–NH_4^+–PO_4^(3-)CO_3^(2-)were determined by comparing model predictions with experimental results. Thermodynamic model calculations indicated that hydroxyapatite(Ca_(10)(PO_4)_6(OH)_2), Ca_4H(PO_4)_3?3H_2O, Ca_3(PO_4)_2(beta), and Ca_3(PO_4)_2(am2)were more stable than struvite(MgNH_4PO_3?6H_2O) and calcite(CaCO_3). However, X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis determined the formation of struvite and calcite minerals in the treated effluent. Kinetic experimental results showed that most of the phosphate was removed from synthetic effluent containing NH_4^+within 2 hr, while only 20% of the PO_4^(3-)was removed in the absence of NH_4^+after 24 hr of treatment. The formation of struvite in the DL-treated effluent was due to the rapid precipitation rate of the mineral. The final pH of the DL-treated effluent significantly influenced the mass ratio of struvite to calcite in the precipitates. Because more calcite was formed when the p H increased from 8.4 to 9.6, a p H range of 8.0–8.5 should be used to produce solid with high PO_4^(3-)content. | 14 | The progress on antifouling organic coating: From biocide to biomimetic surface显示文摘The advancement in material science and engineering technology has led to the development of antifouling(AF) coatings which are cheaper, durable, less toxic, and safe to the environment. The use of AF coatings containing tributyltin compounds was prohibited at the beginning of 2003, this necessitated the development of environmentally friendly coatings. The fouling release coating(FRC) lacks biocides and has low surface energy, low elastic modulus with smooth surface properties, hence a better release effect to fouling organisms. Several functional coatings have been recently developed based on fouling release(FR) technology to combat the effects of biofouling. Here, we provide a brief overview of innovative technologies and recent developments based on FRCs, including silicone, modified fluorinated polymer,cross-linked coatings, amphiphilic copolymer coating, hydrogel coatings, and biomimetic coatings. We also highlight the key issues and shortcomings of innovative technologies based on FRCs. | 15 | In Vivo Study on Degradation Behavior and Histologic Response of Pure Magnesium in Muscles显示文摘When an orthopedics device is implanted into bone injury site, it will contact the soft tissue(skeletal muscle, fascia, ligament etc.) except for bone. Magnesium based biodegradable metals are becoming an important research object in orthopedics due to their bioactivity to promote bone healing. In this study,pure Mg rods with and without chemical conversion coating were implanted into the muscle tissue of rabbits. Implants and their surrounding tissues were taken out for weight loss measurement, crosssectional scanning electron microscopy observation, elemental distribution analysis and histological examination. The results showed that the chemical conversion coating would increase the in vivo corrosion resistance of pure Mg and decrease the accumulation of calcium(Ca) and phosphorus(P) elements around the implants. For the bare magnesium implant, both Ca and P contents in the surrounding tissues increased at the initial stage of implantation and then decreased at 12 weeks implantation, while for the magnesium with chemical conversion coating, Ca and P contents in the surrounding tissues decreased with the implantation time, but were not significant. The histological results demonstrated that there was no calcification in the muscle tissue with implantation of magnesium for up to 12 weeks.
