1Oral health status in Sichuan Province: findings from the oral health survey of Sichuan, 2015–2016显示文摘To investigate oral health status in the residents of Sichuan Province, southwest China, a cross-sectional study was performed using the latest Oral Health Survey Basic Methods recommended by the World Health Organization. A multistage stratified random cluster-sampling method was used to enroll participants from the following three groups: children aged 3–5 years,adolescents aged 12 years, and people aged 65–74 years. In these three groups, the mean numbers of teeth that were affected by caries were 3.28, 0.86 and 5.13, respectively, resulting in a prevalence of 63.47%, 37.20% and 83.20%, respectively.Relative to the high rate of decayed teeth, the prevalence of fillings was very low in all age groups(0.97%, 7.24% and 5.43%,respectively). In the 12-year-old adolescent group, only 3.61% had good pit and fissure sealing. In addition, the rate of dental fluorosis was 24.80%, and the Community Fluorosis Index value was 0.39. In the elder group, the community periodontal index was2.92. The prevalence in the elderly of having lost at least one tooth was 75.54%. Additionally, 4.44% of these participants were edentulous. The incidence of dental prosthesis was 51.75%, the proportion with a removable partial denture, a fixed denture, full dentures, dental implants and an informal fixed bridge was 21.59%, 11.45%, 4.64%, 0 and 16.67%, respectively. In this study,8.2% of the elderly participants were affected by different types of oral mucosal lesions. Among such lesions, recurrent aphthous ulcers were most prevalent(2.69%) and oral lichen planuses were second(1.6%). The conclusion presented in this survey is that oral diseases, especially dental caries and periodontal disease, are frequent and common in Sichuan province, China. 2Roasting and leaching behaviors of vanadium and chromium in calcification roasting–acid leaching of high-chromium vanadium slag显示文摘Calcification roasting–acid leaching of high-chromium vanadium slag(HCVS)was conducted to elucidate the roasting and leaching behaviors of vanadium and chromium.The effects of the purity of Ca O,molar ratio between Ca O and V_2O_5(n(Ca O)/n(V_2O_5)),roasting temperature,holding time,and the heating rate used in the oxidation–calcification processes were investigated.The roasting process and mechanism were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and thermogravimetry–differential scanning calorimetry(TG–DSC).The results show that most of vanadium reacted with Ca O to generate calcium vanadates and transferred into the leaching liquid,whereas almost all of the chromium remained in the leaching residue in the form of(Fe_(0.6)Cr_(0.4))_2O_3.Variation trends of the vanadium and chromium leaching ratios were always opposite because of the competitive reactions of oxidation and calcification between vanadium and chromium with Ca O.Moreover,Ca O was more likely to combine with vanadium,as further confirmed by thermodynamic analysis.When the HCVS with Ca O added in an n(Ca O)/n(V_2O_5)ratio of 0.5 was roasted in an air atmosphere at a heating rate of 10°C/min from room temperature to 950°C and maintained at this temperature for 60 min,the leaching ratios of vanadium and chromium reached91.14%and 0.49%,respectively;thus,efficient extraction of vanadium from HCVS was achieved and the leaching residue could be used as a new raw material for the extraction of chromium.Furthermore,the oxidation and calcification reactions of the spinel phases occurred at 592and 630°C for n(Ca O)/n(V_2O_5)ratios of 0.5 and 5,respectively.Jing Wen Tao Jiang Mi Zhou Hui-yang Gao Jia-yi Liu Xiang-xin Xue 2018International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2018,25,5:14
3Cerebral metastasis from hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach显示文摘We first report a rare case of metastasis from gastric hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) to cerebral parenchyma, in a 50-year-old Chinese patient. He complained of a one-month history of a paroxysm of headache in the left temple and pars parietalis accompanied with binocular caligation caligo, insensible feeling of limbs and transient anepia. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed a spherical occupying lesion in the left posterior-temple lobe which was clinically diagnosed as a metastatic tumor. Three years ago, the patient accepted total gastrectomy as he was pathologically diagnosed at gastroscopy having an adenocarcinoma. Eight months after gastrectomy, the occupying lesion in liver was detected by ultrasound and CT, and he accepted transcatheter arterial embolization. Before operation of the brain metastasis, no obvious abnormality was found in liver by ultrasound. Histopathological characteristics of the brain tumor were identical to those of stomach tumor. The growth pattern of both tumors showed solid cell nests. The tumor cells were polygonal, and had abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and round nuclei with obvious nucleoli. Sinusoid-like blood spaces were located between nodular tumor cells. Immunohistochemistry-stained tumor cells were positive for AFP and negative for Hep-Par-1. According to these histopathological findings, both tumors were diagnosed as HAC and metastatic HAC. The patient remained alive 16 mo after tumorectomy of the cerebral metastasis. The differential diagnosis of brain metastasis from metastatic tumors should use a panel of antibodies to avoid confusing with the brain metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). 5Sintering behaviors and consolidation mechanism of high-chromium vanadium and titanium magnetite fines显示文摘To achieve high efficiency utilization of high-chromium vanadium–titanium magnetite(V–Ti–Cr) fines, an investigation of V–Ti–Cr fines was conducted using a sinter pot. The chemical composition, particle parameters, and granulation of V–Ti–Cr mixtures were analyzed, and the effects of sintering parameters on the sintering behaviors were investigated. The results indicated that the optimum quicklime dosage, mixture moisture, wetting time, and granulation time for V–Ti–Cr fines are 5wt%, 7.5wt%, 10 min, and 5–8 min, respectively. Meanwhile, the vertical sintering speed, yield, tumbler strength, and productivity gains were shown to be 21.28 mm/min, 60.50wt%, 58.26wt%, and 1.36 t·m-2·h-1, respectively. Furthermore, the consolidation mechanism of V–Ti–Cr fines was clarified, revealing that the consolidation of a V–Ti–Cr sinter requires an approximately 14vol% calcium ferrite liquid-state, an approximately 15vol% silicate liquid-state, a solid-state reaction, and the recrystallization of magnetite. 6A novel heterogeneous Co(Ⅱ)-Fenton-like catalyst for efficient photodegradation by visible light over extended pH显示文摘A novel Co^Ⅱ-Fenton-like heterogeneous catalyst,(H3O)2[Co^Ⅱ(phen)(H2O)2]2[Mo^Ⅵ5O15(PO4)2]·4H2O (phen=1,10-phenanthroline,C12N2H8)(1),is synthesized and utilized for photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes and antibiotic in a wide range of pH.The experimental results show that 1 acting as the Fenton-like catalyst with H2O2 exhibits remarkable activity at pH 3–9 under vis-light irradiation and is merited with excellent recyclability and reusability.A variety of analytical methods,including in-situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations,are applied to study the mechanism on generation of·OH and O2^·-radicals for photocatalytic degradation.It suggests that,unlike the classical Fenton process involving the redox transformation of the central cations,the generation of·OH and O2^·-radicals is associated with the substitution of the coordinating water molecules at Co(Ⅱ) by H2O2 and/or OOH^-,followed by the light-driven O–O bond cleavage and dissociation.The outcomes of this study are striking which overcome the obstacles in the classical Fe^Ⅱ-Fenton process,including the slow redox transformation between Fe(Ⅱ) and Fe(Ⅲ) and the production of massive iron precipitates especially at elevated pH.It opens up new avenues for the development of the high-performance Fenton(-like) catalysts for photocatalytic degradation over extended pH and provides new insight into the related process.Wu-Hua Chen Jin-Hua Xiong Xue Teng Jin-Xiao Mi Zhi-Biao Hu Haifeng Wang Zuofeng Chen 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,12:5

8Exosomal PD-L1 induces osteogenic differentiation and promotes fracture healing by acting as an immunosuppressant显示文摘A moderate inflammatory response at the early stages of fracture healing is necessary for callus formation.Over-active and continuous inflammation,however,impairs fracture healing and leads to excessive tissue damage.Adequate fracture healing could be promoted through suppression of local over-active immune cells in the fracture site.In the present study,we achieved an enriched concentration of PD-L1 from exosomes(Exos)of a genetically engineered Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell(HUVECs),and demonstrated that exosomes overexpressing PD-L1 specifically bind to PD-1 on the T cell surface,suppressing the activation of T cells.Furthermore,exosomal PD-L1 induced Mesenchymal Stem Cells(MSCs)towards osteogenic differentiation when pre-cultured with T cells.Moreover,embedding of Exos into an injectable hydrogel allowed Exos delivery to the surrounding microenvironment in a time-released manner.Additionally,exosomal PD-L1,embedded in a hydrogel,markedly promoted callus formation and fracture healing in a murine model at the early over-active inflammation phase.Importantly,our results suggested that activation of T cells in the peripheral lymphatic tissues was inhibited after local administration of PD-L1-enriched Exos to the fracture sites,while T cells in distant immune organs such as the spleen were not affected.In summary,this study provides the first example of using PD-L1-enriched Exos for bone fracture repair,and highlights the potential of Hydrogel@Exos systems for bone fracture therapy through immune inhibitory effects.Ze Lin Yuan Xiong Weilin Meng Yiqiang Hu Lili Chen Lang Chen Hang Xue Adriana CPanayi Wu Zhou Yun Sun Faqi Cao Guodong Liu Liangcong Hu Chenchen Yan Xudong Xie Chuanchuan Lin Kaiyong Cai Qian Feng Bobin Mi Guohui Liu 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,7:4

10Conductive photo-thermal responsive bifunctional hydrogel system with self-actuating and self-monitoring abilities显示文摘Despite enormous efforts in actuators,most researches are only limited to various actuation behaviors and demonstrations of soft materials.It has not yet been reported to capture and monitor its movement status in an invisible environment.Therefore,it is of great significance to develop a self-sensing and self-actuating dual-function hydrogel actuator system to realize real-time monitoring.Here,we report a bifunctional hydrogel system with self-actuating and self-monitoring abilities,which combines the functions of photothermal actuation and electrical resistance sensing into a single material.The bilayer tough conductive hydrogel synthesized by unconventional complementary concentration recombination and cryogenic freezing technique presents a dense conductive network and high-porosity structure,achieving high toughness at 190.3 kPa of tensile strength,high stretchability(164.3%strain),and the toughness dramatically(1,471.4 kJ·m^(−3)).The working mechanism of the monitoring and self-sensing system is accomplished through the integrated monitoring device of surface temperature–bending angle–electron current,to solve the problem of not apperceiving actuator motion state when encountering obstacles in an invisible environment.We demonstrated for the first time a photothermal actuator’s motion of a football player and goalkeeper to finish the penalty and a soft actuator hand,which can achieve the action of sticking to grab and release under photo-thermal actuation.When connected to the control closed circuit,the actuator realized closed-loop monitoring and sensing feedback.The development of bifunctional hydrogel systems may bring new opportunities and ideas in the fields of material science,circuit technology,sensors,and mechanical engineering.Neng Chen Yang Zhou Yinping Liu Yuanyuan Mi Sisi Zhao Wang Yang Sai Che Hongchen liu FengJiang Chen Chong Xu Guang Ma Xue Peng Yongfeng Li 2022Nano Research2022,15,8:3

13Abdominal Obesity and Its Attribution to All-cause Mortality in the General Population with 14 Years Follow-up:Findings from Shanxi Cohort in China显示文摘Objective This study aimed to assess the association of waist circumference(WC)with all-cause mortality among Chinese adults.Methods The baseline data were from Shanxi Province of 2002 China Nutrition and Health Survey.The death investigation and follow-up visit were conducted from December 2015 to March 2016.The visits covered up to 5,360 of 7,007 participants,representing a response rate of 76.5%.The Cox regression model and floating absolute risk were used to estimate hazard ratio and 95%floating CI of death by gender and age groups(≥60 and<60 years old).Sensitivity analysis was performed by excluding current smokers;participants with stroke,hypertension,and diabetes;participants who accidentally died;and participants who died during the first 2 years of follow-up.Results This study followed 67,129 person-years for 12.5 years on average,including 615 deaths.The mortality density was 916 per 100,000 person-years.Low WC was associated with all-cause mortality among men.Multifactor-adjusted hazard ratios(HR)were 1.60(1.35–1.90)for WC<75.0 cm and 1.40(1.11–1.76)for WC ranging from 75.0 cm to 79.9 cm.Low WC(<70.0 cm and 70.0–74.9 cm)and high WC(≥95.0 cm)groups had a high risk of mortality among women.The adjusted HRs of death were 1.43(1.11–1.83),1.39(1.05–1.84),and 1.91(1.13–3.22).Conclusion WC was an important predictor of death independent of body mass index(BMI).WC should be used as a simple rapid screening and predictive indicator of the risk of death.ZHAI Yi REN Ze Ping ZHANG Mei ZHANG Jian JIANG Yong MI Sheng Quan WANG Zhuo Qun ZHAO Yan Fang SONG Peng Kun YIN Zhao Xue ZHAO Wen Hua 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,4:2
14Treated dentin matrix induces odontogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells via regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling显示文摘Treated dentin matrix(TDM)is an ideal scaffold material containing multiple extracellular matrix factors.The canonical Wnt signaling pathway is necessary for tooth regeneration.Thus,this study investigated whether the TDM can promote the odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells(hDPSCs)and determined the potential role of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in this process.Different concentrations of TDM promoted the dental differentiation of the hDPSCs and meanwhile,the expression of GSK3βwas decreased.Of note,the expression of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway-related genes changed significantly in the context of TDM induction,as per RNA sequencing(RNA seq)data.In addition,the experiment showed that new dentin was visible in rat mandible cultured with TDM,and the thickness was significantly thicker than that of the control group.In addition,immunohistochemical staining showed lower GSK3βexpression in new dentin.Consistently,the GSK3βknockdown hDPSCs performed enhanced odotogenesis compared with the control groups.However,GSK3βoverexpressing could decrease odotogenesis of TDM-induced hDPSCs.These results were confirmed in immunodeficient mice and Wistar rats.These suggest that TDM promotes odontogenic differentiation of hDPSCs by directly targeting GSK3βand activating the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and provide a theoretical basis for tooth regeneration engineering.Sirui Liu Jingjing Sun Shuai Yuan Yanyu Yang Yuping Gong Ying Wang Runying Guo Xue Zhang Yiming Liu Hongyan Mi Meiyue Wang Mengzhe Liu Rui Li 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,1:2
15Effects of converting natural grasslands into planted grasslands on ecosystem respiration: a case study in Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘With increasingly intensifying degradation of natural grasslands and rapidly increasing demand of high quality forages, natural grasslands in China have been converted into planted grasslands at an unprecedented rate and the magnitude of the conversion in Inner Mongolia is among the national highest where the areal extent of planted grasslands ranks the second in China. Such land-use changes(i.e., converting natural grasslands into planted grasslands) can significantly affect carbon stocks and carbon emissions in grassland ecosystems. In this study, we analyzed the effects of converting natural grasslands into planted grasslands(including Medicago sativa, Elymus cylindricus, and M. sativa+E. cylindricus) on ecosystem respiration(F_(eco)) in Inner Mongolia of China. Diurnal F_(eco) and its components(i.e., total soil respiration(F_(ts)), soil heterotrophic respiration(F_(sh)) and vegetation autotrophic respiration(F_(va))) were measured in 2012(27 July to 5 August) and 2013(18 July to 25 July) in the natural and planted grasslands. Meteorological data, aboveground vegetation data and soil data were simultaneously collected to analyze the relationships between respiration fluxes and environmental factors in those grasslands. In 2012, the daily mean F_(eco) in the M. sativa grassland was higher than that in the natural grassland, and the daily mean F_(va) was higher in all planted grasslands(i.e., M. sativa, E. cylindricus, and M. sativa+E. cylindricus) than in the natural grassland. In contrast, the daily mean F_(ts) and F_(sh) were lower in all planted grasslands than in the natural grassland. In 2013, the daily mean F_(eco), F_(ts) and F_(va) in all planted grasslands were higher than those in the natural grassland, and the daily mean F_(sh) in the M. sativa+E. cylindricus grassland was higher than that in the natural grassland. The two-year experimental results suggested that the conversion of natural grasslands into planted grasslands can generally increase the F_(eco) and the increase in F_(eco) is more pronounced when the plantation becomes more mature. The results also indicated that F_(sh) contributed more to F_(eco) in the natural grassland whereas F_(va) contributed more to F_(eco) in the planted grasslands. The regression analyses show that climate factors(air temperature and relative humidity) and soil properties(soil organic matter, soil temperature, and soil moisture) strongly affected respiration fluxes in all grasslands. However, our observation period was admittedly too short. 16Application of a water cooling treatment and its effect on coal-based reduction of high-chromium vanadium and titanium iron ore显示文摘A water cooling treatment was applied in the coal-based reduction of high-chromium vanadium and titanium(V–Ti–Cr) iron ore from the Hongge region of Panzhihua, China. Its effects on the metallization ratio(η), S removal ratio(R_S), and P removal ratio(R_P) were studied and analyzed on the basis of chemical composition determined via inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. The metallic iron particle size and the element distribution of Fe, V, Cr, and Ti in a reduced briquette after water cooling treatment at 1350°C were determined and observed via scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the water cooling treatment improved the η, R_S, and R_P in the coal-based reduction of V–Ti–Cr iron ore compared to those obtained with a furnace cooling treatment. Meanwhile, the particle size of metallic iron obtained via the water cooling treatment was smaller than that of metallic iron obtained via the furnace cooling treatment; however, the particle size reached 70 μm at 1350°C, which is substantially larger than the minimum particle size required(20 μm) for magnetic separation. 17Isothermal reduction kinetics and mineral phase of chromium-bearing vanadium–titanium sinter reduced with CO gas at 873–1273 K显示文摘Reduction of chromium-bearing vanadium–titanium sinter(CVTS) was studied under simulated conditions of a blast furnace, and thermodynamics and kinetics were theoretically analyzed. Reduction kinetics of CVTS at different temperatures was evaluated using a shrinking unreacted core model. The microstructure, mineral phase, and variation of the sinter during reduction were observed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and metallographic microscopy. Results indicate that porosity of CVTS increased with temperature. Meanwhile, the reduction degree of the sinter improved with the reduction rate. Reduction of the sinter was controlled by a chemical reaction at the initial stage and inner diffusion at the final stage. Activation energies measured 29.22–99.69 k J/mol. 18Next-generation Sequencing Study of Pathogens in Serum from Patients with Febrile Jaundice in Sierra Leone显示文摘Objective People in Western Africa suffer greatly from febrile jaundice, which is caused by a variety of pathogens. However, yellow fever virus(YFV) is the only pathogen under surveillance in Sierra Leone owing to the undeveloped medical and public health system there. Most of the results of YFV identification are negative. Elucidation of the pathogen spectrum is required to reduce the prevalence of febrile jaundice. Methods In the present study, we used Ion Torrent semiconductor sequencing to profile the pathogen spectrum in archived YFV‐negative sera from 96 patients in Sierra Leone who presented with unexplained febrile jaundice. Results The most frequently identified sequencing reads belonged to the following pathogens: cytomegalovirus(89.58%), Epstein‐Barr virus(55.21%), hepatitis C virus(34.38%), rhinovirus(28.13%), hepatitis A virus(20.83%), coxsackievirus(10.42%), Ebola virus(8.33%), hepatitis E virus(8.33%), lyssavirus(4.17%), leptospirosis(4.17%), chikungunya virus(2.08%), Crimean‐Congo hemorrhagic fever virus(1.04%), and hepatitis B virus(1.04%). 20Effect of midazolam on the proliferation of neural stem cells isolated from rat hippocampus显示文摘In many recent studies,the inhibitory transmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid has been shown to modulate the proliferation,differentiation and survival of neural stem cells.Most general anesthetics are partial or allosteric gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor agonists,suggesting that general anesthetics could alter the behavior of neural stem cells.The neuroprotective efficacy of general anesthetics has been recognized for decades,but their effects on the proliferation of neural stem cells have received little attention.This study investigated the potential effect of midazolam,an extensively used general anesthetic and allosteric gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor agonist,on the proliferation of neural stem cells in vitro and preliminarily explored the underlying mechanism.The proliferation of neural stem cells was tested using both Cell Counting Kit 8 and bromodeoxyuridine incorporation experiments.Cell distribution analysis was performed to describe changes in the cell cycle distribution in response to midazolam.Calcium imaging was employed to explore the molecular signaling pathways activated by midazolam.Midazolam(30-90 μM) decreased the proliferation of neural stem cells in vitro.Pretreatment with the gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor antagonist bicuculline or Na-K-2Cl cotransport inhibitor furosemide partially rescued this inhibition.In addition,midazolam triggered a calcium influx into neural stem cells.The suppressive effect of midazolam on the proliferation of neural stem cells can be partly attributed to the activation of gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor.The calcium influx triggered by midazolam may be a trigger factor leading to further downstream events.Sanjun Zhao Yajing Zhu Rui Xue Yunfeng Li Hui Lu Weidong Mi 2012Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,19:1
