| 1 | The HuangZaoSi Maize Genome Provides Insights into Genomic Variation and Improvement History of Maize显示文摘Maize is a globally important crop that was a classic model plant for genetic studies. Here, we report a 2.2 Gb draft genome sequence of an elite maize line, HuangZaoSi (HZS). Hybrids bred from HZS-improved lines (HILs) are planted in more than 60% of maize fields in China. Proteome clustering of six completed sequeneed maize genomes show that 638 proteins fall into 264 HZS-specific gene families with the majority of contributions from tandem duplication events. Resequencing and comparative analysis of 40 HZSrelated lines reveals the breeding history of HILs. More than 60% of identified selective sweeps were clustered in identity.by.descent conserved regions, and yield-related genes/QTLs were enriched in HZS characteristic selected regions. Furthermore, we dem on strated that HZS-specific family genes were not uniformly distributed in the genome but enriched in improvement/function.related genomic regions. | 5 | Maintaining the balance of TDP-43,mitochondria,and autophagy:a promising therapeutic strategy for neurodegenerative diseases显示文摘Mitochondria are the energy center of cell operations and are involved in physiological functions and maintenance of metabolic balance and homeostasis in the body.Alterations of mitochondrial function are associated with a variety of degenerative and acute diseases.As mitochondria age in cells,they gradually become inefficient and potentially toxic Acute injury can trigger the permeability of mitochondrial membranes,which can lead to apoptosis or necrosis.Transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 kDa(TDP-43)is a protein widely present in cells.It can bind to RNA,regulate a variety of RNA processes,and play a role in the formation of multi-protein/RNA complexes.Thus,the normal physiological functions of TDP-43 are particularly important for cell survival.Normal TDP-43 is located in various subcellular structures including mitochondria,mitochondrial-associated membrane,RNA particles and stress granules to regulate the endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondrial binding,mitochondrial protein translation,and mRNA transport and translation.Importantly,TDP-43 is associated with a variety of neurodegenerative diseases,including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease,which are characterized by abnormal phosphorylation,ubiquitination,lysis or nuclear depletion of TDP-43 in neurons and glial cells.Although the pathogenesis of TDP-43 proteinopathy remains unknown,the presence of pathological TDP-43 inside or outside of mitochondria and the functional involvement of TDP-43 in the regulation of mitochondrial morphology,transport,and function suggest that mitochondria are associated with TDP-43-related diseases.Autophagy is a basic physiological process that maintains the homeostasis of cells,including targeted clearance of abnormally aggregated proteins and damaged organelles in the cytoplasm;therefore,it is considered protective against neurodegenerative diseases.However,the combination of abnormal TDP-43 aggregation,mitochondrial dysfunction,and insufficient autophagy can lead to a variety of aging-related pathologies.In this review,we describe the current knowledge on the associations of mitochondria with TDP-43 and the role of autophagy in the clearance of abnormally aggregated TDP-43 and dysfunctional mitochondria.Finally,we discuss a novel approach for neurodegenerative treatment based on the knowledge. | Chunhui Huang Sen Yan Zaijun Zhang | 2020 | Translational Neurodegeneration2020,9,4: | 5 |
| 6 | Sedimentary Conditions of Evaporites in the Late Jurassic Xiali Formation,Qiangtang Basin:Evidence from Geochemistry Records显示文摘The Qiangtang Basin(QB), located in the central Tibetan Plateau, is a Jurassic marine basin and one of the most important prospective salt resource belts in China. In recent decades, many outcrops of gypsiferous bed have been found in the Jurassic marine strata in the basin. Salt springs with abnormally high sodium(Na^+) contents had been identified in the Late Jurassic Xiali Formation(Fm.) in the basin in the last years. However, to date, no potash or halite deposits have been identified in the QB. Gypsum outcrops and salt springs are very important signs in the investigation of halite and potash deposits. Therefore, the Xiali Fm. is a potentially valuable layer to evaluate for the possible presence of halite and potash deposits in the basin. However, few studies have explored the formation conditions of evaporites in the unit. Here, we present detailed geochemical records from the Yanshiping section related to the study of the formation conditions of evaporites in the Xiali Fm. of the QB. Climate proxies based on the obviously increased anion concentrations of SO_4(2-) and Cl^- and the significant correlation coefficients of Ca2+-SO42-(R = 0.985) and Na^+-Cl^-(R = 0.8974) reveal that the upper member of the Xiali Fm.(the upper Xiali Fm.) formed under an arid climate and evolved into the sulfate phase or early chloride phase. Provenance proxies based on the obviously increased K^+ and Na^+ ion concentrations and the significant correlation coefficient of Na^+-Cl^-(R = 0.8974) suggest that the upper Xiali Fm. featured optimal provenance conditions for the possible formation of halite deposits. The regression and the semi-closed tidal flat environment in the upper Xiali Fm. were favorable for the formation of potash and halite deposits. The low Mg^(2+) /Ca^(2+) values(mean value = 1.82) and significant Na^+-Cl^- correlation coefficient(R = 0.8974) also suggest that the upper Xiali Fm. is the layer most likely to contain potential halite deposits. In addition, the macroscopic correlations of tectonism, provenance, paleoclimate, saliferous strata and sedimentary environment between the QB and the adjoining Amu Darya Basin in Central Asia reveal that the two basins shared similar geologic settings that were favorable for the formation of evaporites during the Late Jurassic. | 9 | Influence of Cr^(3+) concentration on the electrochemical behavior of the anolyte for vanadium redox flow batteries显示文摘The composition of electrolyte affects to a great extent the electrochemical performance of vanadium redox flow batteries(VRB).The effects of Cr3+ concentration in the anolyte on the electrode process of V(V)/V(IV) couple have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).It was found that Cr3+ causes no side reactions,but affects the electrochemical performance of V(V)/V(IV) redox reaction,including the reaction activity,the reversibility of electrode reaction,the diffusivity of vanadium ions,the interface film impedance,and the electrode reaction impedance.The experimental results show that Cr3+ within a certain concentration range can improve the reversibility of electrode reaction and the diffusion of vanadium ions.With the Cr3+ concentration increasing from 0 to 0.30 g L-1,the reversibility of V(V)/V(IV) reaction increases,while the diffusion resistance decreases.Correspondingly,the diffusion coefficient of vanadium ions increases from(5.48-6.77) × 10-7 to(6.82-8.44) × 10-7 cm2 s-1,an increase of ~24%.However,the diffusion resistance increases and the diffusion coefficient decreases when Cr3+ concentration is over 0.30 g L-1,while the impedances of the interface,the film as well as the charge transfer increase continuously.As a result,Cr3+ with a certain concentration improves the diffusion and mass transfer process,but the resistances of the film,the interface,and the charge transfer rise.Furthermore,Cr3+ concentration of no more than 0.10 g L-1 has few effect on the electrode reaction process,and that of no more than 0.30 g L-1 is favorable to the diffusion of vanadium ions. | HUANG Fei ZHAO Qiang LUO ChunHui WANG GuiXin YAN KangPing LUO DongMei | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,32: | 4 |

| 16 | Structure of aqueous sodium sulfate solutions derived from X-ray diffraction显示文摘A rapid liquid X-ray diffractometer was used to study the time-averaged and space-averaged structure of aqueous sodium sulfate solutions at 298 and 323 K. Difference radial distribution functions of the solutions were obtained from accurate diffraction data. The interaction distances of Na+-OH2 and S-H2O in solutions were found to be 0.235 and 0.385 nm, respectively, after deconvolution of superposition peaks by Gaussian multi-peak fitting program. The characteristic distance of the NaSO4-contact ion pairs in higher concentration solutions was determined to be 0.345 nm, suggesting that the Na+ ions coordinated with SO42- ions in the mono-dentate form. Effects of concentration and temperature on the hydration structure of the solutions were discussed in the present paper. With a decrease in concentration, the contributions of the H2O to the diffraction pattern increase, the average coordination number of the Na+ ions hardly changes, while the hydration number of SO42-ions increases slightly. The formation of NaSO4-contact ion pairs becomes easier at higher temperature. To evaluate the ameliorating effect of camellia oil on constipation,two slowtransit costive mice models were established by water deprivation or sucralfate gavage. Administration of camellia oil( 4. 0 and 8. 0 mL/kg/day) significantly shortened the defecation time,increased defecation mass and fecal water content,with efficacies comparable to that of hemp seed oil. Intestinal propulsion test showed that camellia oil significantly enhanced the propelling rates of the charcoal powder in the intestine. Meanwhile,camellia oil also significantly decreased the serum levels of nitric oxide( NO),nitric oxide synthase( NOS) and vasoactive intestinal peptide( VIP) and increased serum substance P in costive animals.
