| 1 | Application of several optimization techniques for estimating TBM advance rate in granitic rocks显示文摘This study aims to develop several optimization techniques for predicting advance rate of tunnel boring machine(TBM)in different weathered zones of granite.For this purpose,extensive field and laboratory studies have been conducted along the 12,649 m of the Pahang-Selangor raw water transfer tunnel in Malaysia.Rock properties consisting of uniaxial compressive strength(UCS),Brazilian tensile strength(BTS),rock mass rating(RMR),rock quality designation(RQD),quartz content(q)and weathered zone as well as machine specifications including thrust force and revolution per minute(RPM)were measured to establish comprehensive datasets for optimization.Accordingly,to estimate the advance rate of TBM,two new hybrid optimization techniques,i.e.an artificial neural network(ANN)combined with both imperialist competitive algorithm(ICA)and particle swarm optimization(PSO),were developed for mechanical tunneling in granitic rocks.Further,the new hybrid optimization techniques were compared and the best one was chosen among them to be used for practice.To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed models for both testing and training datasets,various statistical indices including coefficient of determination(R^2),root mean square error(RMSE)and variance account for(VAF)were utilized herein.The values of R^2,RMSE,and VAF ranged in 0.939-0.961,0.022-0.036,and 93.899-96.145,respectively,with the PSO-ANN hybrid technique demonstrating the best performance.It is concluded that both the optimization techniques,i.e.PSO-ANN and ICA-ANN,could be utilized for predicting the advance rate of TBMs;however,the PSO-ANN technique is superior. | Danial Jahed Armaghani Mohammadreza Koopialipoor Aminaton Marto Saffet Yagiz | 2019 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,4: | 15 |
| 2 | Involvement and therapeutic implications of airway epithelial barrier dysfunction in type 2 inflammation of asthma显示文摘Type 2 inflammation is a complex immune response and primary mechanism for several common allergic diseases including allergic rhinitis,allergic asthma,atopic dermatitis,and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.It is the predominant type of immune response against helminths to prevent their tissue infiltration and induce their expulsion.Recent studies suggest that epithelial barrier dysfunction contributes to the development of type 2 inflammation in asthma,which may partly explain the increasing prevalence of asthma in China and around the globe.The epithelial barrier hypothesis has recently been proposed and has received great interest from the scientific community.The development of leaky epithelial barriers leads to microbial dysbiosis and the translocation of bacteria to inter-and sub-epithelial areas and the development of epithelial tissue inflammation.Accordingly,preventing the impairment and promoting the restoration of a deteriorated airway epithelial barrier represents a promising strategy for the treatment of asthma.This review introduces the interaction between type 2 inflammation and the airway epithelial barrier in asthma,the structure and molecular composition of the airway epithelial barrier,and the assessment of epithelial barrier integrity.The role of airway epithelial barrier disruption in the pathogenesis of asthma will be discussed.In addition,the possible mechanisms underlying the airway epithelial barrier dysfunction induced by allergens and environmental pollutants,and current treatments to restore the airway epithelial barrier are reviewed. | Xiang Dong Mei Ding Jinjin Zhang Ismail Ogülür Yagiz Pat Mübeccel Akdis Yadong Gao Cezmi A.Akdis | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,5: | 4 |
| 3 | Efficient thrust generation in robotic fish caudal fins using policy search显示文摘Thrust generation is a crucial aspect of fish locomotion that depends on a variety of morphological and kinematic parameters.In this work,the kinematics of caudal fin motion of a robotic fish are optimised experimentally.The robotic fish actuates its caudal fin with flapping and rotation motion,and also measures the fin hydrodynamic force and torque.Total nine designs of the caudal fins are investigated,with three different shapes(or inclination angles)and three stiffness.The optimisation is based on a policy search(PS)algorithm,which is used to maximise the thrust-generation efficiency of the caudal fins.The authors first parametrise fin spanwise-rotation as a sinusoidal function using rotation amplitude and phase delay and test whether it is beneficial to thrust-generation efficiency.The result shows that the rotation does not contribute to the efficiency,as the efficiency is maximised at zero amplitude.Next,the authors optimise flapping amplitude and trajectory profile without fin rotation.Results show that smaller flapping amplitude results in higher efficiency and linear flapping trajectories are preferred over sinusoidal ones.Fins that have the highest flexibility are more efficient in thrust generation although they generate less thrust,while an inclination angle of 30°yields the most efficient fin shape. | Yixi Shan Yagiz EBayiz Bo Cheng | 2019 | IET Cyber-Systems and Robotics2019,1,1: | 2 |
