1Reconstruction of May——July precipitation in the north Helan Mountain, Inner Mongolia since A.D. 1726 from tree-ring late-wood widths显示文摘By analyzing statistical characteristics of five tree-ring standard chronologies, early-wood ring width (EWW), late-wood ring width (LWW), total ring width (TRW), minimum early-wood density (MinD), maximum late-wood density (MaxD) and, their climatic response re-spectively, we reconstructed the May to July precipitation using late-wood ring width (LWW) over the north Helan Mountain since A.D. 1726. The explained variance is 42% (R2adj = 41%, F = 31.46, p < 0.000001). After 11-a moving average, the explained variance reaches 82% (F = 156.9, p < 0.05). On the decadal scale, the rainfall reconstruction of the northern Helan Mountain displays a quite similar variation pattern with that of the April to early July precipitation in Baiyinaobao, east of Inner Mongolia for the last 150 years. It may reflect the intensity variation of the East Asia Summer Monsoon front to a certain extent. 2Optimization Transmission Theory and Technical Pathways that Describe Multiscale Urban Agglomeration Spaces显示文摘Urban agglomerations are spatial entities that promote the development of ‘new urbanization' processes within China. In this context, the concept of ‘multiscale urban agglomeration spaces' encompasses three linked levels: macroscale urban agglomerations, mesoscale cities, and microscale urban centers. Applying a series of multidisciplinary integrated research methods drawn from geography, urban planning, and architecture, this paper reveals two intensive utilization laws that can be generalized to apply to multiscale urban agglomeration spaces, top-to-bottom ‘positive transmission' linkage and inside-to-outside ‘negative transmission' movement. This paper also proposes optimization transmission theory and policy decision technical pathways that can be applied to these three urban agglomeration spatial scales. Specific technical pathways of transmission include intensive expansion and simulated decision-making in macroscale urban agglomerations, ecology, production, and living space intensive layout and dynamic decision-making in mesoscale cities, and four cores(i.e., ‘single, ring, axis, and pole core') progressive linkage and intensive optimization decision-making in microscale urban centers. The theory and technical pathways proposed in this paper solve the technical problem of optimization and provide intensive methods that can be applied not only at the individual level but also at multiple scales in urban agglomeration spaces. This study also advances a series of comprehensive technical solutions that can be applied to both compact and smart growth cities as well as to urban agglomerations. 3CapOX as neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced operable colon cancer patients: a prospective single-arm phase Ⅱ trial显示文摘Objective: The aim of this prospective, single-arm phase II trial was to confirm the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) using oxaliplatin plus capecitabine(Cap OX) for patients with operable locally advanced colon cancer(CC).Methods: Patients with computed tomography-defined T4 or lymph node-positive CCs were enrolled. After radiological staging, patients were treated with at least 2 cycles of NAC consisting of 130 mg/m2 oxaliplatin on d 1,plus 1,000 mg/m2 capecitabine twice daily for 14 d every 3 weeks, followed by surgery, and then with the rest cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. Radiological response was evaluated after 2 cycles of NAC. Tumor response, treatment toxicity, and surgical complications were recorded. The pathological response to therapy was evaluated according to the tumor regression grade(TRG) score. The primary endpoint was pathologic tumor response. This trial is registered in Clinical Trials.gov(No: NCT02415829).Results: Forty-seven patients were enrolled in the study. Forty-two patients completed the planned treatments.The total radiological response rate was 68%(32/47), including complete and partial response rates of 2%(1/47)and 66%(31/47), respectively. Stable disease was observed in 32%(15/47) and progressive disease was observed in none. Complete pathologic response, major regression, and at least moderate regression were achieved in 1(2%), 2(4%), and 29(62%) patients, respectively. Four patients developed grade 3 treatment toxicities. One patient with wound infection occurred after operation(1/47, 2%). 4Mitochondrial tRNA^(Glu) A14693G variant may modulate the phenotypic manifestation of deafness-associated 12S rRNA A1555G mutation in a Han Chinese family显示文摘Mutations in mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene are one of the most important causes of aminoglycoside-induced and nonsyndromic hear- ing loss. Here we report the characterization of one Han Chinese pedigree with aminoglycoside-induced and nonsyndromic hearing loss. This Chinese family carrying the 12S rRNA A1555G mutation exhibited high penetrance and expressivity of hearing impairment. In par- ticular, penetrances of hearing loss in this family pedigree were 43.8% and 25%, respectively, when aminoglycoside-induced hearing loss was included or excluded. Mutational analysis of entire mitochondrial genomes in this family showed the homoplasmic A1555G mutation and a set of variants belonging to haplogroup Y2. Of these, the A14693G variant occurred at the extremely conserved nucleotide (conven- tional position 54) of the TΨC-loop of tRNAGlu and was absent in 156 Chinese controls. Nucleotides at position 54 of tRNAs are often modified, thereby contributing to the structural formation and stabilization of functional tRNAs. Thus, the structural alteration of tRNA by the A14693G variant may lead to a failure in tRNA metabolism and impair mitochondrial protein synthesis, thereby worsening mito- chondrial dysfunctions altered by the A1555G mutation. 5Mutation of the PHYTOENE DESATURASE 3 gene causes yellowish-white petals in Brassica napus显示文摘Oilseed rape (Brassica napus) with yellow flowers is an attractive ornamental landscape plant during the flowering period,and the development of different petal colors has become a breeding objective.Although yellowish flower color is a common variant observed in field-grown oilseed rape,the genetics behind this variation remains unclear.We obtained a yellowish-white flower (ywf) mutant from Zhongshuang 9 (ZS9) by ethyl methanesulfonate mutagenesis (EMS) treatment.Compared with ZS9,ywf exhibited a lower carotenoid content with a reduced and defective chromoplast ultrastructure in the petals.Genetic analysis revealed that the yellowish-white trait was controlled by a single recessive gene.Using bulked-segregant analysis sequencing (BSA-seq) and kompetitive allele-specific PCR(KASP),we performed map-based cloning of the ywf locus on chromosome A08 and found that ywf harbored a C-to-T substitution in the coding region,resulting in a premature translation termination.YWF,encoding phytoene desaturase 3 (PDS3),was highly expressed in oilseed rape petals and involved in carotenoid biosynthesis.Pathway enrichment analysis of the transcriptome profiles from ZS9 and ywf indicated the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway to be highly enriched.Further analyses of differentially expressed genes and carotenoid components revealed that the truncated Bna A08.PDS3 resulted in decreased carotenoid biosynthesis in the mutant.These results contribute to an understanding of the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway and manipulation of flower-color variation in B.napus.Chuanji Zhao Luqman Bin Safdar Meili Xie Meijuan Shi Zhixue Dong Li Yang Xiaohui Cheng Yueying Liu Zetao Bai Yang Xiang Chaobo Tong Junyan Huang Lijiang Liu Shengyi Liu 2021The Crop Journal2021,9,5:3
6Effects ofβ-alanine on intestinal development and immune performance of weaned piglets显示文摘Beta-alanine is an important amino acid involved in several metabolic reactions in the body.The study aimed to investigate the effect ofβ-alanine supplementation on intestinal development and the immune performance of weaned piglets.Thirty-two 21-day-old healthy weaned piglets(half female and half male;Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire)with an initial body weight of 8.11±0.21 kg were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 replicates of 1 pig each.The control group was fed a basal diet and the three experimental treatment groups were fed diets supplemented with 300,600 and 1,200 mg/kgβ-alanine,respectively.The trial lasted 28 days and the diets fed were divided into 2 phases:the late lactation period(day 1 to 14)and the nursery period(day 15 to 28),during which the weaned piglets had free access to food and water.The regulatory effects ofβ-alanine were further investigated in vitro using organoids obtained from the jejunum of piglets.In vivo,the addition ofβ-alanine to the diet had no significant effect on the growth performance of weaned piglets(P>0.05),but significantly reduced serum levels of immunoglobulin G(IgG)(P<0.01),immunoglobulin M(IgM)(P=0.005),and complement 3(C3)(P=0.017).The serum interleukin-6(IL-6)levels(P<0.01)were significantly reduced in the 1,200 mg/kg treatment group.The addition ofβ-alanine increased ileal villus height,with the most significant effect at a concentration of 300 mg/kg(P=0.041).The addition of 600 mg/kgβ-alanine significantly up-regulated the expression of superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity(P=0.020)and the zonula occludens-1(ZO-1)gene(P=0.049)in the jejunum.Diets supplemented with 300 mg/kgβ-alanine significantly increased the number of Ki67 positive cells in the jejunal crypts(P<0.01).In vitro,β-alanine increased the organoid budding rates(P=0.001)and the budding height of the crypt significantly(P=0.004).In conclusion,β-alanine can improve intestinal morphology and barrier function,reduce inflammatory responses and alleviate the adverse effects of weaning stress on piglet intestinal health.Linlin Chen Yan Zhong Xiangqin Ouyang Chunfeng Wang Lanmei Yin Jing Huang Yali Li Qiye Wang Junyan Xie Pengfei Huang Huansheng Yang Yulong Yin 2023Animal Nutrition2023,,1:2
7Formation Mechanism of Ground Fissures Originated from the Hanging Wall of Normal Fault:A Case in Fen-Wei Basin,China显示文摘This paper takes Fen-Wei Basin(FWB)as a case to study the ground fissures controlled by normal fault.Based on the field investigation,geophysical exploration,drilling,GNSS data and numerical calculation,the characteristics and mechanism of ground fissures originated from the hanging wall of normal faults are revealed.The results show that the distribution of ground fissures in the hanging wall and heading wall of the active faults is not uniform.Ground fissures are mostly distributed in the hanging wall of active faults and show a linear distribution on the surface,their strike is consistent with the fault,mainly characterized by vertical offset and horizontal tension.Ground fissures destroy the farmland and building foundation through which they pass and cause the rupture or displacement.In profile section,the ground fissure shows the characteristics of normal faults and dislocates the strata,and is connected with the underlying faults.Numerical analysis shows that the vertical displacement of normal fault activity in hanging wall is much larger than that in heading wall,which is the reason that tectonic ground fissures mainly originate from hanging wall.The range of dangerous area of ground fissures is controlled by the depth of fault,the strength of the ground fissures disaster is mainly controlled by the activity of fault.The formation of the ground fissures originated from the hanging wall of the fault experienced three stages:the main fault activity stage,the secondary fault activity stage and the fissure formation stage.Zhijie Jia Jianbing Peng Quanzhong Lu Jianwei Qiao Feiyong Wang Mingdong Zang Yang Liu Junyan Zhao Fengji Zhu 2022Journal of Earth Science2022,33,2:2
8De novo design of future rapeseed crops:Challenges and opportunities显示文摘To address the global demand for rapeseed while considering farmers’profit,we face the challenges of making a quantum leap in seed yield and,at the same time,reducing yield loss due to biotic and abiotic stresses.We also face the challenge of efficiently applying new transformative biotechnology tools such as gene editing and breeding by genome design to increase rapeseed productivity and profitability.In this Perspective,we review advances in research on the physiological and genetic bases of both stress factorsaffected yield stability and seed yield potential,focusing on source–sink relationships and allocation of photosynthetic assimilates to vegetative growth and seed development.We propose research directions and highlight the role of plant architecture in the relative contributions of the root system,leaves,and pods to seed yield.We call for de novo design of new rapeseed crops.We review trait variation in existing germplasm and biotechnologies available for crop design.Finally,we discuss opportunities to apply fundamental knowledge and key germplasm to rapeseed production and propose an ideotype for de novo design of future rapeseed cultivars.Shengyi Liu Harsh Raman Yang Xiang Chuanji Zhao Junyan Huang Yuanyuan Zhang 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,3:2
9Effects of fish meal replacement with Chlorella meal on growth performance,pigmentation,and liver health of largemouth bass(Micropterus salmoides)显示文摘Chlorella meal is a potential protein source for aquafeeds.However,the physiological response of carnivorous fish fed Chlorella meal remains elusive.This study evaluated the effects of replacing dietary fish meal with Chlorella meal on growth performance,pigmentation,and liver health in largemouth bass.Five diets were formulated to replace dietary fish meal of 0%(C0,control),25%(C25),50%(C50),75%(C75),and 100%(C100)with Chlorella meal,respectively.Total 300 fish(17.6±0.03 g)were randomly assigned to 15 tanks(3 tanks/group).Fish were fed the experimental diet twice daily for 8 weeks.The increased dietary Chlorella meal quadratically influenced the final body weight(FBW),weight gain rate(WGR),specific growth rate(SGR),and feed intake(FI),which were significantly lower in the C100 group than in the other groups(P<0.05).The feed conversion ratio(FCR)increased linearly or quadratically with dietary Chlorella meal.Dietary Chlorella meal linearly or quadratically increased the lutein content of plasma,liver,and dorsal muscle of largemouth bass(P<0.05).Compared to the C0 group,all supplemented Chlorella meal groups significantly improved the yellowness(b*)of the dorsal body(1.5 to 2.0 fold),abdominal body(1.5 to 1.8 fold),and dorsal muscle(3.8 to 5.4 fold)of largemouth bass(P<0.05).In addition,compared to the C0 group,the liver vacuolation area of fish was significantly increased in the C75 and C100 groups(P<0.05).Transcriptional levels of apoptosis-related genes of b-cell lymphoma-2(bcl2),caspase-9-like(casp9),and caspase-3a(casp3)were markedly upregulated(0.9 to 1.6 fold)in the C100 group compared to the C0 group(P<0.05).Based on the quadratic regression analysis between FBW,WGR,or SGR and dietary Chlorella meal level,largemouth bass had the best growth when replacing 31.7%to 32.6%of fish meal with 15.03%to 15.43%dietary Chlorella meal.The present results indicated that dietary supplementation with Chlorella meal(11.85%to 47.45%)significantly enhanced the pigmentation;however,total replacement of fish meal(40%)with Chlorella meal(47.45%)caused growth retardation,apoptosis,and liver damage in largemouth bass.Longwei Xi Qisheng Lu Yulong Liu Jingzhi Su Wen Chen Yulong Gong Dong Han Yunxia Yang Zhimin Zhang Junyan Jin Haokun Liu Xiaoming Zhu Shouqi Xie 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,3:2

15Clinical characteristics and survival analysis of colorectal cancer in China:a retrospective cohort study with 13,328 patients from southern China显示文摘Background:Colorectal cancer(CRC)is one of the most common cancers in China.However,detailed clinical characteristics and survival information are limited.This study aimed to investigate the potential epidemiological and clinical risk factors affecting the survival of CRC patients in southern China.Methods:Patients with primary CRC between 1994 and 2019 at the First and the Sixth Affiliated Hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University(Guangzhou,China)were included.Clinical characteristics and survival outcomes were collected from medical records.The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS),and Cox’s proportional-hazards regression model was used to estimate hazard ratios and 95%confidence intervals.Results:Of all 13,328 patients,60.1%were men;the mean age was 61.3 years;53.5%had colon cancer.Among all patients,1,864(14.0%)were diagnosed with stage IV disease.The 3-and 5-year OS rates were 79.90%and 71.50%,respectively,whereas the 3-and 5-year PFS rates were 70.30%and 63.90%,respectively.The median OS and PFS times were 189 and 149 months,respectively.Among 13,328 patients,428(14.0%)patients with poor/undifferentiated cancer suffered recurrence.In patients with stageⅢand stageⅣdiseases,the median PFS times of the patients who received chemotherapy were significantly longer than those in patients who had not received chemotherapy(stageⅢ:147 vs 62 months,P<0.001;stageⅣ:14 vs 9.5 months,P<0.001).Conclusions:This retrospective cohort study illustrates the current status of the clinical characteristics of patients with CRC in southern China.Sex,age,family history,location of cancer occurrence,differentiation status,T status,N status,M status,clinical stage,operation,and surgical margin are independent factors associated with the OS of CRC patients.Lekun Fang Ziqing Yang Mingliang Zhang Manqi Meng Junyan Feng Chuangqi Chen 2021Gastroenterology Report2021,9,6:1
