1Deformation reinforcement theory and its application to high arch dams显示文摘In this paper,the deformation reinforcement theory(DRT) proposed by the authors is elaborated with a new definition of instability that an elasto-plastic structure is not stable if it cannot satisfy simultaneously equilibrium condition,kinematical admissibility and constitutive equations under the prescribed loading.Starting from the definition,a proof is established to the principle of minimum plastic complementary energy for failured structures.It is revealed that the principle of mini-mum plastic complementary energy results in relaxed constitutive equations,especially,yield conditions.It is demonstrated with case studies that many key issues in arch dam design,e.g.,global stability,dam-toe reinforcement,dam-toe cracking,dam-abut-ment reinforcement,can be well solved within the framework of the deformation reinforcement theory.The structural global stability can be described by the curve of the plastic complementary energy vs overloading factor.The unbalanced-forces obtained by elasto-plastic FEM can be used as the basis of analysis of global stability,dam-heel cracking,dam-toe anchorage and reinforcement of faults of high arch dams and their foundations.YANG Qiang,LIU YaoRu,CHEN YingRu & ZHOU WeiYuan State Key Laboratory of Hydroscience and Hydraulic Engineering,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China 2008Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,S2:21

3Methods of computed tomography screening and management of lung cancer in Tianjin: design of a population-based cohort study显示文摘Objective: European lung cancer screening studies using computed tomography(CT) have shown that a management protocol based on measuring lung nodule volume and volume doubling time(VDT) is more specific for early lung cancer detection than a diameter-based protocol. However, whether this also applies to a Chinese population is unclear. The aim of this study is to compare the diagnostic performance of a volume-based protocol with a diameter-based protocol for lung cancer detection and optimize the nodule management criteria for a Chinese population.Methods: This study has a population-based, prospective cohort design and includes 4000 participants from the Hexi district of Tianjin, China. Participants will undergo low-dose chest CT at baseline and after 1 year. Initially, detected lung nodules will be evaluated for diameter and managed according to a routine diameter-based protocol(Clinical Practice Guideline in Oncology for Lung Cancer Screening, Version 2.2018). Subsequently, lung nodules will be evaluated for volume and management will be simulated according to a volume-based protocol and VDT(a European lung nodule management protocol). Participants will be followed up for 4 years to evaluate lung cancer incidence and mortality. 4Characteristic Temperatures of Waxy Crude Oils显示文摘Gel point or pour point is widely used to evaluate the low temperature flowability of crude oil. However, it is not adequate to describe the gelling properties of waxy crude oils under flow conditions with gel point or pour point, since the rheological behavior of crude oils is dependent on shear history. Waxy crude oils tend to gel at a low temperature. Based on gelation theory, the characteristic temperature of waxy crude oil was determined by analyzing viscosity-temperature data. Two mathematical models were developed for calculating characteristic temperatures of virgin crude oils and pour point depressants (PPD) beneficiated crude oils, respectively. By using these two models, the characteristic temperatures of crude oils that have experienced shearing and thermal histories can be predicted. The model for predicting the characteristic temperature of virgin crude oils has an average relative deviation of 4.5%, and all predicted values have a deviation within 2 ℃. Tested by 42 sets of data, the prediction model for crude oil treated with PPD has a high accuracy, with an average relative deviation of 4.2%, and 95.2 percent of predicted values have a deviation within 2 ℃. 6Stability and reinforcement analyses of high arch dams by considering deformation effects显示文摘The strict definition and logical description of the concept of structure stability and failure are presented. The criterion of structure stability is developed based on plastic complementary energy and its variation. It is presented that the principle of minimum plastic complementary energy is the combination of structure equilibrium, coordination condition of deformation and constitutive relationship. Based on the above arguments, the deformation reinforcement theory is developed. The structure global stability can be described by the relationship between the global degree of safety of structure and the plastic complementary energy. Correspondingly, the new idea is used in the evaluations of global stability, anchorage force of dam-toe, fracture of dam-heel and treatment of faults of high arch dams in China. 7On monolithic stability and reinforcement analysis of high arch dams显示文摘Monolithic stability safety and reinforcement based on monolithic stability are very important for arch dam design. In this paper, the issue is addressed based on deformation reinforcement theory. In this approach, plastic complementary energy norm can be taken as safety index for monolithic stability. According to deformation reinforcement theory, the areas where unbalanced force exists require reinforcement, and the required reinforcement forces are just the unbalanced forces with opposite direction. 13Maximum power and corresponding efficiency of an irreversible blue heat engine for harnessing waste heat and salinity gradient energy显示文摘In this study,a novel irreversible cyclic model of a capacitive mixing blue heat engine mainly consisting of super capacitors,charging and discharging circuits,a heat source,as well as two water sources with given salt concentrations is established for harvesting salinity gradient energy and waste heat.Additionally,the effects of the charging voltage and ratio of the minimum to maximum surface electric charge density on the thermodynamic efficiency and power output of the cycle are discussed.The maximum power output of the cycle is calculated.The optimized ranges of efficiency and power output as well as the temperatures of two isothermal processes are determined.It is established that during the isoelectric quantity process,there is not only an increase in thermal voltage owing to the temperature difference,but also an increase in concentration voltage owing to the salinity gradient.Consequently,the blue heat engine can obtain higher energy conversion efficiency than a conventional heat engine.When the temperature ratio of the heat source to the heat sink is 1.233,the maximum efficiency can reach approximately36%.The results obtained can promote the application of capacitive mixing technology in real life,reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.LIN Jian XIE Shan JIANG ChenXing SUN YiFei CHEN JinCan ZHAO YingRu 2022Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,3:1
