| 2 | Preparation of chitosan rods with excellent mechanical properties: One candidate for bone fracture internal fixation显示文摘Chitosan (CS) is one promising material as a temporary mechanical supporter for bone fracture internal fixation.In our previous work,we successfully fabricated CS rods through one in situ precipitation route.But bending strength and bending modulus of CS rods need to be improved to match the commercially available devices used for bone fracture internal fixation.In this research,CS rods were reinforced effectively through cross-linking reaction by using glutaraldehyde as the coupling reagent.Schiff’s base was detected by FTIR due to the chemical reaction between amino groups and aldehyde groups.Crystal plane space of CS rods became small during the formation of network structure.Microstructure was observed by SEM,indicating that layer-by-layer structure became much tighter after cross-linking reaction,and cracks in one layer turned around when they reached another layer to absorb energy.Bending strength and bending modulus of cross-linked CS rods could reach 186.3 MPa and 5.17 GPa,respectively.Compared with uncross-linked CS rods,they are increased by 101.6% and 26.1%,respectively.As a result,mechanical properties of CS rods are equivalent to the commercially available biodegradable devices.CS rods with excellent mechanical properties are a good candidate for bone fracture internal fixation. | WANG ZhengKe HU QiaoLing WANG YouXiang | 2011 | Science China Chemistry2011,54,2: | 7 |

| 6 | Degradation of metronidazole by dielectric barrier discharge in an aqueous solution显示文摘Degradation of metronidazole (MNZ) which is a representative and stable antibiotic by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in an aqueous solution has been studied. Effects of initial MNZ concentration, solution pH and coexisting organics on the degradation were investigated. The results illustrated that increasing the input power and the discharge frequency can improve the removal of MNZ. At low initial concentration, the removal of MNZ can reach up to 99.1%. Acidic and neutral conditions are more favorable for MNZ removal than alkaline condition in the early stage of degradation. However, the difference in MNZ removal between those in acidic or neutral media and that in alkaline one could be neglected with prolonging of the treatment time. Therefore, this method can be applied to MNZ degradation with a wide pH range. Coexisting organic matter in water can attenuate the removal to some extent. | 12 | Routine nasogastric tube placement in patients with small esophageal perforation after endoscopic foreign body removal may be unnecessary:a propensity score matching analysis显示文摘Background:Nasogastric tube(NGT)placement is part of the post-operative management of upper gastrointestinal perforation,but its routine use in esophageal perforation(EP)caused by foreign bodies remains unclear.The purpose of this research was to investigate the necessity for routine NGT placement in patients with EP after endoscopic foreign body removal.Methods:A total of 323 patients diagnosed with EP caused by foreign bodies at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between January 2012 and December 2021 were included in this retrospective study.Patients were divided into the NGT group and the non-NGT group according to whether or not NGT placement was performed.The perforation healing rate,post-operative adverse events,hospital stay,and death rate were analysed using a 1:1 propensity score matching model.Results:Before matching,there were 263 patients in the NGT group and 60 patients in the non-NGT group.There were significant differences in the time to treatment,infection,albumin,and types of endoscopy between the two groups,while the length of hospital stay in the NGT group was significantly longer than that in the non-NGT group.After 1:1 propensity score matching,48 pairs of patients were matched between the two groups.The perforation healing rate,post-operative adverse events,length of hospital stay,and death rate did not show significant differences between the two groups.Conclusions:For patients with small EP caused by foreign bodies,routine NGT placement after endoscopic foreign body removal may be unnecessary. | Foqiang Liao Qinyu Yang Zhenyi Zhan Zhenhua Zhu Xiaolin Pan Chong Wang Bimin Li Yin Zhu Youxiang Chen Xu Shu | 2023 | Gastroenterology Report2023,11,1: | 0 |

| 14 | Long-term outcomes of brainstem arteriovenous malformations after different management modalities: a single-centre experience显示文摘Objective The aims of this study are to clarify the long-term outcomes of brainstem arteriovenous malformations(AVMs)after different management modalities.Methods The authors retrospectively reviewed 61 brainstem AVMs in their institution between 2011 and 2017.The rupture risk was represented by annualised haemorrhagic rate.Patients were divided into five groups:conservation,microsurgery,embolisation,stereotactic radiosurgery(SRS)and embolisation+SRS.Neurofunctional outcomes were evaluated by the modified Rankin Scale(mRS).Subgroup analysis was conducted between different management modalities to compare the long-term outcomes in rupture or unruptured cohorts.Results All of 61 brainstem AVMs(12 unruptured and 49 ruptured)were followed up for an average of 4.5 years.The natural annualised rupture risk was 7.3%,and the natural annualised reruptured risk in the ruptured cohort was 8.9%.13 cases were conservative managed and 48 cases underwent intervention(including 6 microsurgery,12 embolisation,21 SRS and 9 embolisation+SRS).In the selection of interventional indication,diffuse nidus were often suggested conservative management(p=0.004)and nidus involving the midbrain were more likely to be recommended for intervention(p=0.034).The risk of subsequent haemorrhage was significantly increased in partial occlusion compared with complete occlusion and conservative management(p<0.001,p=0.036,respectively).In the subgroup analysis,the follow-up mRS scores of different management modalities were similar whether in the rupture cohort(p=0.064)or the unruptured cohort(p=0.391),as well as the haemorrhage-free survival(p=0.145).In the adjusted Bonferroni correction analysis of the ruptured cohort,microsurgery and SRS could significantly improve the obliteration rate compared with conservation(p<0.001,p=0.001,respectively)and SRS may have positive effect on avoiding new-onset neurofunctional deficit compared with microsurgery and embolisation(p=0.003,p=0.003,respectively).Conclusions Intervention has similar neurofunctional outcomes as conservation in these brainstem AVM cohorts.If intervention is adopted,partial obliteration should be avoided because of the high subsequent rupture risk. | Yu Chen Ruinan Li Li Ma Xiangyu Meng Debin Yan Hao Wang Xun Ye Hengwei Jin Youxiang Li Dezhi Gao Shibin Sun Ali Liu Shuo Wang Xiaolin Chen Yuanli Zhao | 2021 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,1: | 0 |
