Soil Components Affecting Phosphate Sorption Parameters of Acid Paddy Soils in Guangdong Province显示文摘Soil components affecting phosphate sorption parameters were studied using acid paddy soils derived from basalt, granite, sand-shale and the Pearl River Delta sediments, respectively, in Guangdong Province. For each soil, seven 2.50 g subsamples were equilibrated with 50 mL 0.02 mol L-1 (pH=7.0) of KCI containing 0, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 and 100 mg P kg-1, respectively, in order to derive P sorption parameters (P sorption maximum, P sorption intensity factor and maximum buffer capacity) by Langmuir isotherm equation. It was shown that the main soil components influencing phosphate sorption maximum (Xm) included soil clay, PH, amorphous iron oxide (Feo) and amorphous aluminum oxide (Alo), with their effects in the order of Alo > Feo > pH > clay. Among these components, pH had a negative effect, and the others had a positive effect. Organic matter (OM) was the only soil component influencing P sorption intensity factor (K). The main components influencing maximum phosphate buffer capacity (MBC) consisted of soil clay, OM,pH, Feo and Alo, with their effects in the order of Alo > OM > pH > Feo > clay. Path analysis indicated that among the components with positive effects on maximum phosphate buffer capacity (MBC), the effect was in the order of Alo > Feo > Clay, while among the components with negative effects, OM > pH. OM played an important role in mobilizing phosphate in acid paddy soils mainly through decreasing the sorption immensity of phosphate by soil particles.LI HUAXING, ZHANG XINMING and LIU YUANJIN (College of Natural Resources and Environment, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642 China) 2000Pedosphere2000,10,4:13
Microfluidic generation of egg-derived protein microcarriers for 3D cell culture and drug delivery显示文摘Microcarriers have a demonstrated value for biomedical applications,in particular for drug delivery and three-dimensional cell culture.Attempts to develop this technique tend to focus on the fabrication of functional microparticles by using convenient methods with innovative but accessible materials.Inspired by the process of boiling eggs in everyday life, which causes the solidification of egg proteins,we present a new microfluidic‘‘cooking'approach for the generation of egg-derived microcarriers for cell culture and drug delivery. As the egg emulsion droplets are formed with exquisite precision during the microfluidic emulsification, the resultant egg microcarriers present highly monodisperse and uniform morphologies at the size range of hundred microns to one millimeter.Benefiting from the excellent biocompatibility of the egg protein components, the obtained microcarriers showed good performances of cell adherence and growth. In addition, after a freezing treatment, the egg microcarriers were shown to have interconnected porous structures throughout their whole sphere, could absorb and load different kinds of drugs or other active molecules, and work as microcarrier-based delivery systems. These features point to the potential value of the microfluidic egg microcarriers in biomedicine.Yuxiao Liu Qian Huang Jie Wang Fanfan Fu Jianan Ren Yuanjin Zhao 2017Science Bulletin2017,62,18:8
Tofu-inspired microcarriers from droplet microfluidics for drug delivery显示文摘Microcarriers have attracted increasing interests in drug delivery. In order to develop this technique, it is prone to focus on the generation of functional particles through using simple approaches and novel but accessible materials. Here, inspired by the formation mechanism of tofu that through the mixing of soymilk and brine for cross-linking soybean proteins, we present novel soybean protein microcarriers by using microfluidic generation approach for drug delivery. Since the soybean protein droplets are generated by microfluidic emulsification method, the tofu microparticles present highly monodisperse and homogeneous morphologies. Because of the excellent biocompatibility of the soybean protein and the interconnected porous structures throughout the whole microparticles after freeze-drying, various kinds of drugs and active molecules could be absorbed and loaded in the microcarriers, which makes them versatile for drug delivery. It can be anticipated that the microfluidic-generated tofu microcarriers will have great potential in the biomedical field.Han Zhang Yuxiao Liu Jie Wang Changmin Shao Yuanjin Zhao 2019Science China Chemistry2019,62,1:5
Responsive Inverse Opal Scaffolds with Biomimetic Enrichment Capability for Cell Culture显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D)porous scaffolds have a demonstrated value for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.Inspired by the predation processes of marine predators in nature,we present new photocontrolled shrinkable inverse opal graphene oxide(GO)hydrogel scaffolds for cell enrichment and 3D culture. The scaffolds with adjustable pore sizes and morphologies were created using a GO and N-isopropylacrylamide dispersed solution as a continuous phase of microfluidic emulsions for polymerizing and replicating.Because of the interconnected porous structures and the remotely controllable volume responsiveness of the scaffolds, the suspended cells could be enriched into the inner spaces of the scaffolds through predator-like swallowing and discharging processes.Hepatocyte cells concentrated in the scaffold pores could form denser 3D spheroids more quickly via the controlled compression force caused by the shrinking of the dynamic scaffolds.More importantly, with a program of scaffold enrichment with different cells,an unprecedented 3D multilayer coculture system of endothelial-cellencapsulated hepatocytes and fibroblasts could be generated for applications such as liver-on-a-chip and bioartificial liver. It was demonstrated that the resultant multicellular system offered significant improvements in hepatic functions, such as albumin secretion, urea synthesis, and cytochrome P450 expression. These features of our scaffolds make them highly promising for the biomimetic construction of various physiological and pathophysiological 3D tissue models, which could be used for understanding tissue level biology and in vitro drug testing applications.Changmin Shao Yuxiao Liu Junjie Chi Jie Wang Ze Zhao Yuanjin Zhao 2019Research2019,,1:4

Wavefront shaping: A versatile tool to conquer multiple scattering in multidisciplinary fields显示文摘Optical techniques offer a wide variety of applications as light-matter interactions provide extremely sensitive mechanisms to probe or treat target media. Most of these implementations rely on the usage of ballistic or quasi-ballistic photons to achieve high spatial resolution. However, the inherent scattering nature of light in biological tissues or tissue-like scattering media constitutes a critical obstacle that has restricted the penetration depth of non-scattered photons and hence limited the implementation of most optical techniques for wider applications. In addition, the components of an optical system are usually designed and manufactured for a fixed function or performance.Recent advances in wavefront shaping have demonstrated that scattering-or component-induced phase distortions can be compensated by optimizing the wavefront of the input light pattern through iteration or by conjugating the transmission matrix of the scattering medium.Zhipeng Yu Huanhao Li Tianting Zhong Jung-Hoon Park Shengfu Cheng Chi Man Woo Qi Zhao Jing Yao Yingying Zhou Xiazi Huang Weiran Pang Hansol Yoon Yuecheng Shen Honglin Liu Yuanjin Zheng YongKeun Park Lihong V.Wang Puxiang Lai 2022The Innovation2022,3,5:1

The role of CYP1A1/2 in cholesterol ester accumulation provides a new perspective for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia显示文摘Cholesterol is an important precursor of many endogenous molecules.Disruption of cholesterol homeostasis can cause many pathological changes, leading to liver and cardiovascular diseases.CYP1A is widely involved in cholesterol metabolic network, but its exact function has not been fully elucidated. Here,we aim to explore how CYP1A regulates cholesterol homeostasis. Our data showed that CYP1A1/2 knockout(KO)rats presented cholesterol deposition in blood and liver. The serum levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol were significantly increased in KO rats.Further studies found that the lipogenesis pathway(LXRa-SREBP1-SCD1)of KO rats was activated, and the key protein of cholesterol ester hydrolysis(CES1)was inhibited.Importantly, lansoprazole can significantly alleviate rat hepatic lipid deposition in hypercholesterolemia models by inducing CYP1A.Our findings reveal the role of CYP1A as a potential regulator of cholesterol homeostasis and provide a new perspective for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.Jian Lu Xuyang Shang Bingyi Yao Dongyi Sun Jie Liu Yuanjin Zhang He Wang Jingru Shi Huaqing Chen Tieliu Shi Mingyao Liu Xin Wang 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,2:0
Learning-based super-resolution interpolation for sub-Nyquist sampled laser speckles显示文摘Information retrieval from visually random optical speckle patterns is desired in many scenarios yet considered challenging. It requires accurate understanding or mapping of the multiple scattering process,or reliable capability to reverse or compensate for the scattering-induced phase distortions. In whatever situation, effective resolving and digitization of speckle patterns are necessary.Nevertheless,on some occasions,to increase the acquisition speed and/or signal-to-noise ratio(SNR),speckles captured by cameras are inevitably sampled in the sub-Nyquist domain via pixel binning(one camera pixel contains multiple speckle grains)due to finite size or limited bandwidth of photosensors.Such a down-sampling process is irreversible;it undermines the fine structures of speckle grains and hence the encoded information, preventing successful information extraction. To retrace the lost information,super-resolution interpolation for such sub-Nyquist sampled speckles is needed. In this work,a deep neural network, namely SpkSRNet,is proposed to effectively up sample speckles that are sampled below 1/10 of the Nyquist criterion to well-resolved ones that not only resemble the comprehensive morphology of original speckles(decompose multiple speckle grains from one camera pixel)but also recover the lost complex information(human face in this study)with high fidelity under normal-and low-light conditions, which is impossible with classic interpolation methods. These successful speckle super-resolution interpolation demonstrations are essentially enabled by the strong implicit correlation among speckle grains, which is non-quantifiable but could be discovered by the well-trained network. With further engineering, the proposed learning platform may benefit many scenarios that are physically inaccessible, enabling fast acquisition of speckles with sufficient SNR and opening up new avenues for seeing big and seeing clearly simultaneously in complex scenarios.HUANHAO LI ZHIPENG YU QI ZHAO YUNQI LUO SHENGFU CHENG TIANTING ZHONG CHI MAN WOO HONGLIN LIU LIHONG V.WANG YUANJIN ZHENG PUXIANG LAI 2023Photonics Research2023,11,4:0
Adsorption and desorption mechanisms on graphene oxide nanosheets: Kinetics and tuning显示文摘A knowledge of the adsorption and desorption behavior of sorbates on surface adsorptive site(SAS)is the key to optimizing the chemical reactivity of catalysts. However, direct identification of the chemical reactivity of SASs is still a challenge due to the limitations of characterization techniques. Here,we present a new pathway to determine the kinetics of adsorption/desorption on SASs of graphene oxide(GO)based on total internal reflectance fluorescence microscopy. The switching on and off of the fluorescent signal of SAS lit by carbon dots(CDs)was used to trace the adsorption process and desorption process. We find that sodium pyrophosphate(PPi)could increase the adsorption equilibrium of CDs thermodynamically and promote the substrate-assisted desorption pathway kinetically. At the single turnover level,it was disclosed that the species that can promote desorption may also be an adsorption promoter.Such discovery provides significant guidance for improving the chemical reactivity of the heterogeneous catalyst.Xiaodan Qu Qiong Hu Zhongqian Song Zhonghui Sun Baohua Zhang Jialing Zhong Xuyou Cao Yuanjin Liu Bolin Zhao Zhenbang Liu Yujie Shen Yu Bao Zhenxin Wang Yuwei Zhang Li Niu 2021The Innovation2021,2,3:0
Tailoring micro/nano-fibers for biomedical applications显示文摘Nano/micro fibers have evoked much attention of scientists and have been researched as cutting edge and hotspot in the area of fiber science in recent years due to the rapid development of various advanced manufacturing technologies, and the appearance of fascinating and special functions and properties, such as the enhanced mechanical strength, high surface area to volume ratio and special functionalities shown in the surface, triggered by the nano or micro-scale dimensions. In addition, these outstanding and special characteristics of the nano/micro fibers impart fiber-based materials with wide applications, such as environmental engineering, electronic and biomedical fields. This review mainly focuses on the recent development in the various nano/micro fibers fabrication strategies and corresponding applications in the biomedical fields, including tissue engineering scaffolds, drug delivery, wound healing, and biosensors. Moreover, the challenges for the fabrications and applications and future perspectives are presented.Bin Kong Rui Liu Jiahui Guo Ling Lu Qing Zhou Yuanjin Zhao 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,1:0
Hierarchically Inverse Opal Porous Scaffolds from Droplet Microfluidics for Biomimetic 3D Cell Co-Culture显示文摘With the advantages of better mimicking the specificity of natural tissues,three-dimensional(3D)cell culture plays a major role in drug development, toxicity testing, and tissue engineering. However, existing scaffolds or microcarriers for 3D cell culture are often limited in size and show suboptimal performance in simulating the vascular complexes of living organisms. Therefore,we present a novel hierarchically inverse opal porous scaffold made via a simple microfluidic approach for promoting 3D cell co-culture techniques. The designed scaffold is constructed using a combined concept involving an emulsion droplet template and inert polymer polymerization. This work demonstrates that the resultant scaffolds ensure a sufficient supply of nutrients during cell culture,so as to achieve large-volume cell culture. In addition,by serially planting different cells in the scaffold,a 3D co-culture system of endothelial-cellencapsulated hepatocytes can be developed for constructing certain functional tissues. It is also demonstrated that the use of the proposed scaffold for a co-culture system helps hepatocytes to maintain specific in vivo functions. These hierarchically inverse opal scaffolds lay the foundation for 3D cell culture and even the construction of biomimetic tissues.Changmin Shao Yuxiao Liu Junjie Chi Fangfu Ye Yuanjin Zhao 2021Engineering2021,7,12:0
Natural biopolymers derived hydrogels with injectable,self-healing,and tissue adhesive abilities for wound healing显示文摘Developing a biocompatible and multifunctional adhesive hydrogel with injectability and self-healing ability for promoting wound healing is highly anticipated in various clinical applications. In this paper,we present a novel natural biopolymer-derived hydrogel based on the aldehyde-modified oxidized guar gum(OGG)and the carboxymethyl chitosan(CMCS)for efficiently improving wound healing with the encapsulation of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).As the hydrogels are synthesized via the dynamically reversible Schiff base linkages,it is imparted with excellent self-healing ability and good shear thinning behavior, which make the hydrogel be easily and conveniently injected through a needle.Besides, the physiochemical properties, including porous structure, mechanical strength and swelling ratio of the hydrogel can be well controlled by regulating the concentrations of the OGG.Moreover, the hydrogel can attain strong adhesion to the tissues at physiological temperature based on the Schiff base between the aldehyde group on the hydrogel and the amino group on the tissue.Based on these features,we have demonstrated that the VEGF encapsulated hydrogel can adhere tightly to the defect tissue and improve wound repair in the rat model of defected skin by promoting cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen secretion. These results indicate that the multifunctional hydrogel is with great scientific significance and broad clinical application prospects.Bin Kong Rui Liu Yi Cheng Xiaodong Cai Junying Liu Dagan Zhang Hui Tan Yuanjin Zhao 2023Nano Research2023,16,2:0
Strategy to minimize bending strain interference for flexible acoustic wave sensing platform显示文摘There are great concerns for sensing using flexible acoustic wave sensors and lab-on-a-chip,as mechanical strains will dramatically change the sensing signals(e.g.,frequency)when they are bent during measurements. These strain-induced signal changes cannot be easily separated from those of real sensing signals(e.g.,humidity,ultraviolet,or gas/biological molecules).Herein,we proposed a new strategy to minimize/eliminate the effects of mechanical bending strains by optimizing off-axis angles between the direction of bending deformation and propagation of acoustic waves on curved surfaces of layered piezoelectric film/flexible glass structure. This strategy has theoretically been proved by optimization of bending designs of off-axis angles and acoustically elastic effect.Proof-of-concept for humidity and ultraviolet-light sensing using flexible SAW devices with negligible interferences are achieved within a wide range of bending strains. This work provides the best solution for achieving high-performance flexible acoustic wave sensors under deformed/bending conditions.Jian Zhou Zhangbin Ji Yihao Guo Yanghui Liu Fengling Zhuo Yuanjin Zheng Yuandong(Alex)Gu YongQing Fu Huigao Duan 2022npj Flexible Electronics2022,6,1:0
