1Changes in heavy metal contents in animal feeds and manures in an intensive animal production region of China显示文摘The 360 feed and manure samples were collected from 150 animal farms in Jiangsu Province, China and analyzed for heavy metals. Concentrations of Zn and Cu in animal feeds were 15.9–2041.8 and undetected–392.1 mg/kg respectively, while Hg, As, Pb, Cd, and Cr in all feeds were below 10 mg/kg. Concentrations of Cu, Zn, and Cr in animal manures were 8.4–1726, 39.5–11379, and 1.0–1602 mg/kg respectively, while As, Cd, Hg, and Pb were < 10 mg/kg. The concentration of Cu, Zn, As and Cr in animal feed and manure were positively correlated(p < 0.001), but the Cd, Hg, and Pb were not statistically correlated between the feed and the manure. Concentrations of Cu and Zn were highest in pig feed and manure, followed by poultry and dairy feeds and manures. During 1990– 2008, Cu, Zn, As, Cr, Cd contents increased by 771%, 410%, 420%, 220%, and 63% in pig manure, 212%, 95%, 200%, 791%, and –63% in dairy manure, and 181%, 197%, 1500%, 261, and 196% in poultry manure. Most of the increases occurred from 2002 to 2008, which reflects the extensive use of feed additives after 2002. In contrast, Pb and Hg in manures continuously decreased from 1990 to 2008. 2Effects of Tai Ji Quan training on gait kinematics in older Chinese women with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background: Although Tai Ji Quan has been shown to relieve pain and improve functional mobility in people with knee osteoarthritis(OA), little is known about its potential benefits on gait characteristics among older Chinese women who have a high prevalence of both radiographic and symptomatic knee OA. This study aims to assess the efficacy of a tailored Tai Ji Quan intervention on gait kinematics for older Chinese women with knee OA.Methods: A randomized controlled trial involving 46 older women in Shanghai, China, with clinically diagnosed knee OA. Randomized(1:1)participants received either a 60 min Tai Ji Quan session(n = 23) 3 times weekly or a 60 min bi-weekly educational session(n = 23) for 24 weeks.Primary outcomes were changes in gait kinematic measures from baseline to 24 weeks. Secondary outcomes included changes in scores on the Western Ontario and Mc Master University Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) and Short Physical Performance Battery(SPPB).Results: After 24 weeks the Tai Ji Quan group demonstrated better performance in gait velocity(mean difference, 8.40 cm/s, p = 0.01), step length(mean difference, 3.52 cm, p = 0.004), initial contact angle(mean difference, 2.19°, p = 0.01), and maximal angle(mean difference, 2.61°,p = 0.003) of flexed knees during stance phase compared to the control group. In addition, the Tai Ji Quan group showed significant improvement in WOMAC scores(p < 0.01)(mean difference,-4.22 points in pain, p = 0.002;-2.41 points in stiffness, p < 0.001;-11.04 points in physical function, p = 0.006) and SPPB scores(mean difference, 1.22 points, p < 0.001).Conclusion: Among older Chinese women with knee OA, a tailored Tai Ji Quan intervention improved gait outcomes. The intervention also improved overall function as indexed by the WOMAC and SPPB. 4A thermodynamic potential for barium zirconate titanate solid solutions显示文摘Barium zirconate titanate[Ba(ZrxTi_(1−x))O_(3)]solid solutions are promising lead-free ferroelectric materials that have received substantial interest.Thermodynamic analysis based on phenomenological Landau–Devonshire theory is a powerful method for theoretical investigation of ferroelectric materials,but cannot be applied to Ba(ZrxTi1−x)O3 because there is no thermodynamic potential.In this paper,a thermodynamic potential for Ba(ZrxTi_(1−x))O_(3)(0≤x≤0.3)solid solutions is constructed,and then a thermodynamic analysis carried out.The results accurately reproduce known phase structures and their transition temperatures,with good agreement with experimentally measured polarization,dielectric,and piezoelectric constants.It is found that Ba(ZrxTi_(1−x))O_(3) solid solutions at room temperature have three phase boundaries,including a tetragonal–orthorhombic phase boundary at x=0.013,an orthorhombic–rhombohedral phase boundary at x=0.0798,and a rhombohedral–paraelectric phase boundary at x=0.2135.The results also indicate that the chemical composition-induced ferroelectric–paraelectric phase boundary has superior electromechanical properties,suggesting a new way to enhance electromechanical coupling in Ba(ZrxTi_(1−x))O_(3) solid solutions.Jinlin Peng Dongliang Shan Yunya Liu Kai Pan Chihou Lei Ningbo He Zhenyu Zhang Qiong Yang 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:3
5Influence of synthesis temperatures on the crystalline grain growth and morphology of lanthanum magnesium hexaaluminate显示文摘Lanthanum magnesium hexaaluminate(LaMgAl_(11)O_(19), LMA) was prepared at different temperatures by solid-state reaction. Phase compositions and crystal morphologies of specimens synthesized at different temperatures were investigated using X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM). It was observed that the crystalline grain size of LMA was not only dependent on the preparation temperature but also on its powder morphology. In the temperature range of 1300 e1550℃, LMA showed platelet grain and the average crystalline grain size increases with the increase in temperature. At1600℃, if the powder was sintered for two times, the equiaxed grain could be found with the decrease in grain space, resulting in the reduction of the crystalline grain size. Styles of specimens(powder or disk) might have no obvious influence on morphologies and sizes of LMA crystalline grains which were synthesized with the well-dispersed raw material mixtures. 6Effect of Taijiquan practice versus wellness education on knee pro-prioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis:a randomized con-trolled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of Taijiquan practice on knee proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing Taijiquan with a control condition(wellness education) in patients with knee OA. The patients participated in either a 60-min Taijiquan session three times weekly or a 60-min weekly educational session, for 24 consecutive weeks. The primary outcomes were changes in knee proprioception. Secondary outcomes were changes in the Western Ontario and Mc Master University Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC).RESULTS: After 24 weeks, compared with the control group, the Taijiquan group demonstrated better improvements in the joint position sense in knee flexion(left:-2.12°; right:-2.02°), and knee extension(left:-2.22°; right:-1.54°). In addition,the Taijiquan group showed significantly greater improvements in the WOMAC scores(P < 0.05) for knee pain(left:-3.17 points; right:-3.74 points),stiffness(left:-2.43 points; right:-2.13 points),and physical function(left:-10.99 points; right:-8.00 points), compared with the control group.CONCLUSION: A 24-week Taijiquan practice resulted in a significant improvement in knee proprioception in patients with knee OA. 7Improving the Antibacterial Property of Chitosan Hydrogel Wound Dressing with Licorice Polysaccharide显示文摘A series of hydrogels with different ratios of chitosan and licorice polysaccharide(LP)were prepared by crosslinking to different concentrations of genipin(gp).They were characterized by FTIR(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy),SEM(Scanning electron microscope),swelling ratio,rheological measurements,degradation with time,cytotoxicity,and antibacterial efficacy.Results show that the hydrogels have porous structures.With an increase in LP content,the swelling rate grows in the early stage of immersion in buffer and drops later.The swelling ratio ranged from 986%to 1677%,and stiffness varied from 777 Pa to 1792 Pa.The addition of LP reduced the mechanical strength and delayed gelation and degradation of the hydrogels.However,the most important discovery was that gp increases the viability of NIH 3T3 cells from 94%to 137%,and LP raises the bacteriostatic efficacy from 51%to 78%.Hydrogels synthesized from 1%genipin,3%chitosan,and 4%licorice polysaccharide showed the best antibacterial and fibroblast proliferation promoting activities.They exhibited moderate swelling and degradation rates over time,while being more suitable to affect healing of chronic wound infections.These results provide a new strategy to improve the antibacterial effectiveness and cyto-compatibility of chitosan hydrogels with water soluble active LPs from Glycyrrhiza that derive from traditional Chinese medicine.Haiwei Ren Li Wang Hui Bao Yunya Xia Dada Xu Weijie Zhang Zhiye Wang 2020Journal of Renewable Materials2020,8,10:2
8An unconventional phase field modeling of domains formation and evolution in tetragonal ferroelectrics显示文摘Based on characteristic functions of variants, we developed an unconventional phase field modeling for investigating domains formation and evolution in tetragonal ferroelectrics. In order to develop this computational approach, we constructed the anisotropy energy of tetragonal variants, which is used instead of Landau-Devonshire potential in the conventional phase field method, resulting in that much fewer parameters are needed for simulations. This approach is advantageous in simulations of emerging ferroelectric materials. We employ it to study the formation and evolution of domains in tetragonal barium titanate single crystal, as well as the nonlinear behaviors under cyclical stress and electric field loading. A multi-rank laminated ferroelectric domain pattern, 90° domain switching accompanied by polarization rotation, and 180° domain switching accompanied by move of domain wall are predicted. It is found that the speed of 90° domain switching is slower than that of 180° domain switching, due to both polarization and transformation strain changed in 90° domain switching. It also suggests that large strain actuation can be generated in single crystal ferroelectrics via combined electromechanical loading inducing 90° domain switching. 11A Micro-coupling for Micro Mechanical Systems显示文摘The error motions of micro mechanical systems, such as micro-spindles, increase with the increasing of the rotational speed, which not only decreases the rotational accuracy, but also promotes instability and limits the maximum operational speed. One effective way to deal with it is to use micro-flexible couplings between the drive and driven shafts so as to reduce error motions of the driven shaft. But the conventional couplings, such as diaphragm couplings, elastomeric couplings, bellows couplings, and grooved couplings, etc, cannot be directly used because of their large and complicated structures. This study presents a novel micro-coupling that consists of a flexible coupling and a shape memory alloy(SMA)-based clamp for micro mechanical systems. It is monolithic and can be directly machined from a shaft. The study performs design optimization and provides manufacturing considerations, including thermo-mechanical training of the SMA ring for the desired Two-Way-Shape-Memory effect(TWSMe). A prototype micro-coupling and a prototype micro-spindle using the proposed coupling are fabricated and tested. The testing results show that the prototype micro-coupling can bear a torque of above 5 N · mm and an axial force of 8.5 N and be fitted with an SMA ring for clamping action at room temperature(15 ℃) and unclamping action below –5 ℃. At the same time, the prototype micro-coupling can work at a rotational speed of above 200 kr/min with the application to a high-speed precision micro-spindle. Moreover, the radial runout error of the artifact, as a substitute for the micro-tool, is less than 3 μm while that of turbine shaft is above 7 μm. It can be concluded that the micro-coupling successfully accommodates misalignment errors of the prototype micro-spindle. 19Seeing is believing: negative capacitance captured at both nano-and macro-scales显示文摘The phenomenological theory of ferroelectrics was developed by Landau-Devonshire about 70 years ago in the 1940s [1], and the celebrated theory has been very successful in analyzing ferroelectric phase transitions [2,3], domain structures [4], as well as strain engineering [5,6]. Recently, it has been demonstrated that it is also capable of capturing emerging polarization textures such as a ferroelectric vortex [7], proving its wide applicability not only at phenomenological level, but also at the atomic scale. The idea is simple, that the internal energy density of a ferroelectric depends on polarization, the order parameter, and upon the phase transition, the energy becomes degenerate, corresponding to multiple ferroelectric variants arising from broken symmetry.
