| 1 | The earthquake precursor detected in a granular medium and a proposed model for the propagation of precursive stress-strain signal显示文摘A way to detect the seismic precursor in granular medium is described and a model of propagation for precursive stress-strain signals is proposed.A strain sensor buried in a sandpit is used to measure a seismic precursor signal.The signal has been investigated and confirmed to originate from a specific earthquake.A comparison of simulated and experimental signals indicates that the signal results from the strain in the earth's strata.Based on the behavioral characteristics of granular materials,an analysis of why this method can be so sensitive to the seismic strain signal is undertaken and a model for the propagation of this stress-strain signal is proposed.The Earth's lithosphere is formed of tectonic plates,faults and fault gouges at their boundaries.In the case of the quasi-static mechanics of seismic precursory stress-strain propagation,the crustal lithosphere should be treated as a large-scale granular system.During a seismogenic event,accumulated force generates the stick-slip motion of adjacent tectonic plates and incrementally pushes blocks farther apart through stick-slip shift.The shear force released through this plate displacement causes soil compression deformation.The discrete properties of the sand in the sandpit lead to the sensitive response of the sensor to the deformation signal which enables it to detect the seismic precursor.From the analysis of the mechanism of the stress-strain propagation in the lithosphere,an explanation is found for the lack of signal detection by sensors installed in rocks.The principles and method presented in this paper provide a new technique for investigating seismic precursors to shallow-source earthquakes. | LU KunQuan HOU MeiYing WANG Qiang PENG Zheng SUN Wei SUN XiaoMing WANG YuYing TONG XiaoHui JIANG ZeHui LIU JiXing | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,11: | 2 |
| 2 | Rice FLOURY ENDOSPERM22, encoding a pentatricopeptide repeat protein, is involved in both mitochondrial RNA splicing and editing and is crucial for endosperm development显示文摘Most of the reported P-type pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) proteins play roles in organelle RNA stabilization and splicing. However, P-type PPRs involved in both RNA splicing and editing have rarely been reported, and their underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, we report a rice floury endosperm22(flo22) mutant with delayed amyloplast development in endosperm cells. Map-based cloning and complementation tests demonstrated that FLO22 encodes a mitochondrion-localized P-type PPR protein.Mutation of FLO22 resulting in defective transsplicing of mitochondrial nad1 intron 1 and perhaps causing instability of mature transcripts affected assembly and activity of complex Ⅰ, and mitochondrial morphology and function. RNA-seq analysis showed that expression levels of many genes involved in starch and sucrose metabolism were significantly down-regulated in the flo22mutant compared with the wild type, whereas genes related to oxidative phosphorylation and the tricarboxylic acid cycle were significantly upregulated. In addition to involvement in splicing as a P-type PPR protein, we found that FLO22 interacted with DYW3, a DYW-type PPR protein, and they may function synergistically in mitochondrial RNA editing. | 6 | MdWRKY11 improves copper tolerance by directly promoting the expression of the copper transporter gene MdHMA5显示文摘Overuse of fungicides and fertilizers has resulted in copper(Cu)contamination of soils and toxic levels of Cu in apple fruits.To breed Cu-resistant apple(Malus domestica)cultivars,the underlying molecular mechanisms and key genes involved in Cu resistance must be identified.Here,we show that MdWRKY11 increases Cu tolerance by directly promoting the transcription of MdHMA5.MdHMA5 is a Cu transporter that may function in the storage of excess Cu in root cell walls and stems for Cu tolerance in apple.The transcription factor MdWRKY11 is highly induced by excess Cu.MdWRKY11 overexpression in transgenic apple enhanced Cu tolerance and decreased Cu accumulation.Apple calli transformed with an MdWRKY11-RNAi construct exhibited the opposite phenotype.Both an in vivo chromatin immunoprecipitation assay and an in vitro electrophoretic mobility shift assay indicated that MdWRKY11 binds to the promoter of MdHMA5.Furthermore,MdWRKY11 promoted MdHMA5 expression in transgenic apple plants,as revealed by quantitative PCR.Moreover,inhibition of MdWRKY11 expression by RNA interference led to a significant decrease in MdHMA5 transcription.Thus,MdWRKY11 directly regulates MdHMA5 transcription.Our work resulted in the identification of a novel MdWRKY11-MdHMA5 pathway that mediates Cu resistance in apple. | Kun Shi Xuan Liu Yunpeng Zhu Yixue Bai Dongqian Shan Xiaodong Zheng Lin Wang Haixia Zhang Chanyu Wang Tianci Yan Fangfang Zhou Zehui Hu Yanzhao Sun Yan Guo Jin Kong | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 1 |
