| 1 | Use of additive and pretreatment to control odors in municipal kitchen waste during aerobic composting显示文摘The effects of adding a bulking agent and chemically pretreating municipal kitchen waste before aerobic composting were studied using a laboratory-scale system. The system used20-L reactors and each test lasted 28 days. The objective was to decrease NH3 and H2S emissions during composting. The bulking agent, dry cornstalks, was mixed with the kitchen waste to give a mixture containing 15%(wet weight) bulking agent. A combined treatment was also conducted, in which kitchen waste mixed with the bulking agent was pretreated with ferric chloride(FeC l3). Less leachate was produced by the composted kitchen waste mixed with bulking agent than by the kitchen waste alone, when the materials had reached the required maturity. The presence of cornstalks also caused less H2 S to be emitted, but had little impact on the amount of NH3 emitted. The FeC l3 was found to act as an effective chemical flocculant,and its presence significantly decreased the amounts of NH3 and H2S emitted. | 2 | Regulation of OsSPX1 and OsSPX3 on Expression of OsSPX Domain Genes and Pi-starvation Signaling in Rice显示文摘The rice(Oryza sativa L.) genome contains at least six genes exclusively with an SPX(SYG1/PHO81/XPR1) domain at the N-terminal,designated as OsSPX1-6.Here we report the diverse expression patterns of the OsSPX genes in different tissues and their responses to Pi-starvation.Among them,five genes,OsSPX1,2,3,5 and 6 are responsive to Pi-starvation in shoots and/or in roots.The subcellular localization analysis indicates that OsSPX1 and OsSPX2 is exclusively located in nucleus,OsSPX3 in the cytoplasm,and OsSPX4 is a membrane localization protein.OsSPX1 regulates OsSPX2,3 and 5 at the transcription level and is positively involved in the responses of the genes to Pi-starvation.Overexpression of OsSPX3 downregulates OsSPX5 in shoots under Pi-sufficiency.OsSPX3 negatively regulates the PSI(Pi-starvation induced) gene,OsIPS1 and is involved in the responses of miR399 and OsPHO2 to Pi-starvation.Our results suggest that OsSPX1 may be a regulator involved in the transcriptions of OsSPX2,3 and 5.OsSPX3 plays a role in OsIPS1/miR399 mediated long distance regulation on OsPHO2.Our results also indicate that OsSPX3 is involved in plant tolerance to Pi-starvation stress. | Zhiye Wang Han Hu Hongjie Huang Ke Duan Zhong changWu Ping Wu | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009,51,7: | 18 |

Firstly, within the framework of the classical discontinuous deformation analysis(DDA) method, the formulation of three-dimensional spherical DDA(3D SDDA) is deduced; secondly, a bonding and cracking algorithm is constructed and the SDDARF3 D model is proposed; thirdly, corresponding VC++ calculation code is developed and some verification examples are calculated. | 4 | Biodegradable mineralized collagen plug for the reconstruction of craniotomy burr‐holes:A report of three cases显示文摘Objectives: In this case report, we describe the design, fabrication and clinical outcomes of a novel bioresorbable, mineralized collagen burr‐hole plug for the reconstruction of craniotomy burr‐holes. Methods: Mineralized collagen burr‐hole plugs were fabricated via a biomimetic mineralization process. The biomimetic mineralized collagen has a similar chemical composition and microstructure to natural bone tissue, thereby possessing good biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. The mineralized collagen burr‐hole plugs were implanted into three patients, and clinical outcomes were evaluated at one‐year follow‐ups. Results: All bone defects healed very well using the mineralized collagen burr‐hole plugs, and there were no adverse reactions at the surgical sites. | 6 | A high-strength mineralized collagen bone scaffold for large-sized cranial bone defect repair in sheep显示文摘Large-sized cranial bone defect repair presents a great challenge in the clinic.The ideal cranioplasty materials to realize the functional and cosmetic recovery of the defect must have sufficient mechanical support,excellent biocompatibility,good osseointegration and biodegradability as well.In this study,a high-strength mineralized collagen(MC)bone scaffold was developed with biomimetic composition,microstructure and mechanical properties for the repair of sheep largesized cranial bone defects in comparison with two traditional cranioplasty materials,polymethyl methacrylate and titanium mesh.The compact MC scaffold showed no distinct pore structure and therefore possessed good mechanical properties.The strength and elastic modulus of the scaffold were much higher than those of natural cancellous bone and slightly lower than those of natural compact bone.In vitro cytocompatibility evaluation revealed that the human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(hBMSC)had good viability,attachment and proliferation on the compact MC scaffold indicating its excellent biocompatibility.An adult sheep cranial bone defect model was constructed to evaluate the performances of these cranioplasty materials in repairing the cranial bone defects.The results were investigated by gross observation,computed tomography scanning as well as histological assessments.The in vivo evaluations indicated that compact MC scaffold showed notable osteoconductivity and osseointegration with surrounding cranial bone tissues by promoting bone regeneration.Our results suggested that the compact MC scaffold has a promising potential for large-sized cranial bone defect repair. | Shuo Wang Zhijun Zhao Yongdong Yang Antonios G.Mikos Zhiye Qiu Tianxi Song Fuzhai Cui XiumeiWang Chunyang Zhang | 2018 | Regenerative Biomaterials2018,5,5: | 9 |

| 8 | Micro-and macro-fractures of coarse granite under true-triaxial unloading conditions显示文摘We studied the mechanical behavior of rock under different boundary conditions, based on the fractal characteristics of fractures in terms of microscopic and macroscopic investigations. Three rectangular granite specimens of similar dimensions were tested by a triaxial rock testing machine under uniaxial compression (UC), confined compression (CC) and true-triaxial unloading conditions (RB) under rock burst boundary conditions. The failure processes of these specimens were investigated via examinations of their fracture behavior on a macro-scale by laser profilometers and on a micro-scale by a scanning electron microscopic (SEM) imaging technique. The SEM images, showing the spalling features of RB fragments, are compared with the grain dislocations under UC and CC conditions. Based on a variogram method, two fractal parameters, i.e., fractal dimensions (D rld ) and the scale dependent fractal parameter K v , were induced to present the surface roughness of scanning profiles in all directions. The fitted ellipses of D rld distribution show that RB surface has the smallest eccentricity, followed by the CC surface, while the UC surface had the largest eccentricity. | 11 | Skull repair materials applied in cranioplasty: History and progress显示文摘The skull provides protection and mechanical support, and acts as a container for the brain and its accessory organs. Some defects in the skull can fatally threaten human life.Many efforts have been taken to repair defects in the skull, among which cranioplasty is the most prominent technique. To repair the injury, numerous natural and artificial materials have been adopted by neurosurgeons. Many cranioprostheses have been tried in the past decades, from autoplast to bioceramics. Neurosurgeons have been evaluating their advantages and shortages through clinical practice. Among those prostheses, surgeons gradually prefer bionic ones due to their marvelous osteoconductivity,osteoinductivity, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. Autogeneic bone has been widely recognized as the 'gold standard' for renovating large-sized bone defects. However, the access to this technique is restricted by limited availability and complications associated with its use. Many metal and polymeric materials with mechanical characteristics analogous to natural bones were consequently applied to cranioplasty. But most of them were unsatisfactory concerning osteoconductiion and biodegradability owe to their intrinsic properties. With the microstructures almost identical to natural bones, mineralized collagen has biological performance nearly identical to autogeneic bone, such as osteoconduction. Implants made of mineralized collagen can integrate themselves into the newly formed bones through a process called 'creeping substitution'. In this review, the authors retrospect the evolution of skull repair material applied in cranioplasty. | 12 | Intra-individual comparison of different gadolinium-based contrast agents in the quantitative evaluation of C6 glioma with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging显示文摘This experiment aimed to compare the ionic(Gadodiamide,Gd-DTPA-BMA) and non-ionic(Gadopentetate dimeglumine,Gd-DTPA) gadolinium-based contrast agents(GBCA) in the quantitative evaluation of C6 glioma with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(DCE-MRI).A C6 glioma model was established in 12 Wistar rats,and magnetic resonance(MR)scans were performed six days after tumor implantation.Imaging was performed using a 3.0-T MR scanner with a 7-inch handmade circular coil.Pre-contrast T1 mapping and dynamic contrast-enhanced T1 WI after a bolus injection(0.2 mL s^(-1)) of GBCA at 0.4 mmol kg^(-1) were performed.Each rat received two DCE-MRI scans,24 h apart.The first and second scans were performed using Gd-DTPA-BMA and Gd-DTPA,respectively.Image data were processed using the Patlak model.Both K^(trans)and V_p maps were generated.Tumors were manually segmented on all 3D K^(trans) and V_p maps.Pixel counts and mean values were recorded for use in a paired f-test Three radiologists independently performed the tumor segmentation and value calculation.The agreements from different observers were subjective to the intra-class correlation coefficient(ICC).Readers demonstrated that the pixel counts of tumors in K^(trans) maps were higher with Gd-DTPA-BMA than with Gd-DTPA(P<0.001,all readers).Although the K^(trans) values were higher with Gd-DTPA-BMA than with Gd-DTPA,there was no statistical significance(P>0.05,all readers).The pixel counts of tumors in V_p maps,as well as V_p values,showed no obvious difference between the two agents(P>0.05,all readers).Excellent interobserver measurement reproducibility and reliability were demonstrated in the ICC tests.The Gd-DTPA-BMA contrast agent had significantly higher pixel counts of glioma in the K^(trans) maps,and an increased tendency for average K^(trans) values,indicating that DCE-MRI with Gd-DTPA-BMA may be more suitable and sensitive for the evaluation of glioma. | Ying Li Gang Liu Xin Lou Zhiye Chen Lin Ma | 2017 | Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,1: | 4 |
| 13 | Extended Range(10–30 Days) Heavy Rain Forecasting Study Based on a Nonlinear Cross-Prediction Error Model显示文摘Extended range(10–30 d) heavy rain forecasting is difficult but performs an important function in disaster prevention and mitigation. In this paper,a nonlinear cross prediction error(NCPE) algorithm that combines nonlinear dynamics and statistical methods is proposed. The method is based on phase space reconstruction of chaotic single-variable time series of precipitable water and is tested in 100 global cases of heavy rain. First,nonlinear relative dynamic error for local attractor pairs is calculated at different stages of the heavy rain process,after which the local change characteristics of the attractors are analyzed. Second,the eigen-peak is defined as a prediction indicator based on an error threshold of about 1.5,and is then used to analyze the forecasting validity period. The results reveal that the prediction indicator features regarded as eigenpeaks for heavy rain extreme weather are all reflected consistently,without failure,based on the NCPE model; the prediction validity periods for 1–2 d,3–9 d and 10–30 d are 4,22 and 74 cases,respectively,without false alarm or omission. The NCPE model developed allows accurate forecasting of heavy rain over an extended range of 10–30 d and has the potential to be used to explore the mechanisms involved in the development of heavy rain according to a segmentation scale. | 14 | Antimicrobial peptide LL-37 forms complex with bacterial DNA to facilitate blood translocation of bacterial DNA and aggravate ulcerative colitis显示文摘Bacterial DNA(bacDNA) is frequently found in serum of patient with ulcerative colitis(UC) and Crohn's disease, even blood bacterial culture is negative. How bacDNA evades immune elimination and is translocated into blood remain unclear. Here, we showed that bacDNA avoids elimination and disables bacteriakilling function of antimicrobial peptide LL-37(Cramp in mice) by forming complex with LL-37, which is inducible after culture with bacteria or bacterial products. Elevated LL-37-bacDNA complex was found in plasma and lesions of patients with UC. LL-37-bacDNA promoted inflammation by inducing Th1, Th2 and Th17 differentiation and activating toll-like receptor-9(TLR9). The complex also increased paracellular permeability, which possibly combines its inflammatory effects to promote local damage and bacDNA translocation into blood. Cramp-bacDNA aggravated mouse colitis severity while interference with the complex ameliorated the disease. The study identifies that inflammatogenic bacDNA utilizes LL-37 as a vehicle for blood translocation and to evade immune elimination. | 15 | Methane Adsorption Capacity Reduction Process of Water-Bearing Shale Samples and Its Influencing Factors: One Example of Silurian Longmaxi Formation Shale from the Southern Sichuan Basin in China显示文摘Due to the existence of water content in shale reservoir,it is quite meaningful to clarify the effect of water content on the methane adsorption capacity(MAC)of shale.However,the role of spatial configuration relationship between organic matter(OM)and clay minerals in the MAC reduction process is still unclear.The Silurian Longmaxi Formation shale samples from the Southern Sichuan Basin in China were prepared at five relative humidity(RH)conditions(0%,16%,41%,76%,99%)and the methane adsorption experiments were conducted on these water-bearing shale samples to clarify the MAC reduction process considering the spatial configuration relationship between clay minerals and OM and establish the empirical model to fit the stages.Total organic carbon(TOC)content and mineral compositions were analyzed and the pore structures of these shale samples were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),N2 adsorption and high-pressure mercury intrusion porosimetry(HPMIP).The results showed that the MAC reduction of clay minerals in OM occurred at different RH conditions from that of clay minerals outside OM.Furthermore,the amount of MAC reduction of shale samples prepared at the same RH condition was negatively related with clay content,which indicated the protection role of clay minerals for the MAC of water-bearing shale samples.The MAC reduction process was generally divided into three stages for siliceous and clayey shale samples.And the MAC of OM started to decline during stage(1)for calcareous shale sample mainly because water could enter OM pores more smoothly through hydrophobic pathway provided by carbonate minerals than through hydrophilic clay mineral pores.Overall,this study will contribute to improving the evaluation method of shale gas reserve. | Zhiye Gao Shuling Xiong | 2021 | Journal of Earth Science2021,32,4: | 3 |

| 19 | Transferrin plays a central role in coagulation balance by interacting with clotting factors显示文摘Coagulation balance is maintained through fine-tuned interactions among clotting factors,whose physiological concentrations vary substantially.In particular,the concentrations of coagulation proteases(pM to nM)are much lower than their natural inactivator antithrombin(AT,〜3μM),suggesting the existence of other coordinators.In the current study,we found that transferrin(norm plasma concentration〜40 μM)interacts with fibrinogen,thrombin,factor Xlla(FXlla),and AT with different affinity to maintain coagulation balance.Normally,transferrin is sequestered by binding with fibrinogen(normal plasma concentration〜10 μM)at a molar ratio of 4:1.In atherosclerosis,abnormally up-regulated transferrin interacts with and potentiates thrombin/FXlla and blocks ATs inactivation effect on coagulation proteases by binding to AT,thus inducing hypercoagulability.In the mouse model,transferrin overexpression aggravated atherosclerosis,whereas transferrin inhibition via shRNA knockdown or treatment with antitransferrin antibody or designed peptides interfering with transferrin-thrombin/FXlla interactions alleviated atherosclerosis.Collectively,these findings identify that transferrin is an important clotting regulator and an adjuster in the maintenance of coagulation balance and modifies the coagulation cascade. | Xiaopeng Tang Zhiye Zhang Mingqian Fang Yajun Han Gan Wang Sheng Wang Min Xue Yaxiong Li Li Zhang Jian Wu Biqing Yang James Mwangi Qiumin Lu Xiaoping Du Ren Lai | 2020 | Cell Research2020,30,2: | 2 |
| 20 | Molecular mechanisms regulating Pi-signaling and Pi homeostasis under OsPHR2,a central Pi-signaling regulator,in rice显示文摘Phosphorus(P)is one of the most important major mineral elements for plant growth and metabolism.Plants have evolved adaptive regulatory mechanisms to maintain phosphate(Pi)homeostasis by improving phosphorus uptake,translocation,remobilization and efficiency of use.Here we review recent advances in our understanding of the OsPHR2-mediated phosphate-signaling pathway in rice.OsPHR2 positively regulates the low-affinity Pi transporter OsPT2 through physical interaction and reciprocal regulation of OsPHO2 in roots.OsPT2 is responsible for most of the OsPHR2-mediated accumulation of excess Pi in shoots.OsSPX1 acts as a repressor in the OsPHR2-mediated phosphate-signaling pathway.Some mutants screened from ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-mutagenized M2 population of OsPHR2 overexpression transgenic line removed the growth inhibition,indicating that some unknown factors are crucial for Pi utilization or plant growth under the regulation of OsPHR2. | Ping WU Zhiye WANG | 2011 | Frontiers in Biology2011,6,3: | 2 |
