Mechanical behavior and failure mechanism of polyurea nanocomposites under quasi-static and dynamic compressive loading显示文摘Polyurea is an elastomeric material that can be applied to enhance the protection ability of structures under blast and impact loading. In order to study the compressive mechanical properties of SiC/polyurea nanocomposites under quasi-static and dynamic loading,a universal testing machine and split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)apparatus were used respectively. The stress-strain curves were obtained on polyurea and its composites at strain rates of 0.001e8000 s1.The results of the experiment suggested that increase in the strain rates led to the rise of the flow stress, compressive strength, strain rate sensitivity and strain energy. This indicates that all of the presented materials were dependent on strain rate. Moreover, these mechanical characters were enhanced by incorporating a small amount of SiC into polyurea matrix. The relation between yield stress and strain rates were established using the power law functions. Finally,in order to investigate the fracture surfaces and inside information of failed specimens, scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and micro X-ray computed tomography(micro-CT)were used respectively.Multiple voids,crazes,micro-cracks and cracking were observed in fracture surfaces. On the other hand, the cracking propagation was found in the micro-CT slice images. It is essential to understand the deformation and failure mechanisms in all the polyurea materials. | Qiang Liu Peng-wan Chen Yan-song Guo Jian-jun Su Lu Han Ali Arab Jian-fei Yuan | 2021 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,2: | 7
Aptamer-wrapped gold nanoparticles for the colorimetric detection of omethoate显示文摘Organophosphorous pesticide(OP) contamination has serious adverse effects on human health and the environment. Due to the toxicity of OPs and the threat presented by their accidental or intentional release in populated areas, the determination and monitoring of these OPs in food products and environment is of great importance. OPs are present in very small quantities and therefore, methods for their detection need to be highly sensitive and selective. Here, we aimed to develop a simple and selective aptamer-based colorimetric assay for the detection of omethoate, which is one of the commonly used OPs. The principle of the assay is that single-stranded DNA(ss DNA)-wrapped gold nanoparticles(Au NPs) are resistant to salt-induced aggregation. By employing an 'artificial antibody' organophosphorous pesticide-binding aptamer(OBA) as the recognition element, aptamer-wrapped Au NPs(Au-apta) show high selectivity towards omethoate, resulting in the disconnection of aptamers from Au NPs and the aggregation of Au NPs. As there is a significant color change from the interparticle plasmon coupling during the aggregation of Au NPs, the established assay showed good linearity between 0.1 and 10 μmol/L, with a low detection limit of 0.1 μmol/L. Other OPs such as profenofos, phorate, and isocarbophos would not interfere with the detection of omethoate despite having similar structures. Thus, the colorimetric method shows potential for use in the detection of omethoate in real soil samples. | Pengjuan Wang Ying Wan Aldalbahi Ali Shengyuan Deng Yan Su Chunhai Fan Shulin Yang | 2016 | Science China Chemistry2016,59,2: | 6
Synthesis of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by Induction Thermal Plasma显示文摘The production of high quality single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)on a bulk scale has been an issue of considerable interest.Recently,it has been demonstrated that high quality SWCNTs can be continuously synthesized on large scale by using induction thermal plasma technology. In this process, the high energy density of the thermal plasma is employed to generate dense vapor-phase precursors for the synthesis of SWCNTs.With the current reactor system,a carbon soot product which contains approximately 40 wt%of SWCNTs can be continuously synthesized at the high production rate of~100 g/h.In this article, our recent research efforts to achieve major advances in this technology are presented.Firstly, the processing parameters involved are examined systematically in order to evaluate their individual inuences on the SWCNT synthesis.Based on these results, the appropriate operating conditions of the induction thermal plasma process for an effective synthesis of SWCNTs are discussed.A characterization study has also been performed on the SWCNTs produced under the optimum processing conditions. Finally,a mathematical model of the process currently under development is described. The model will help us to better understand the synthesis of SWCNTs in the induction plasma process. | Keun Su Kim Ala Moradian Javad Mostaghimi Yasaman Alinejad Ali Shahverdi Benoit Simard Gervais Soucy | 2009 | Nano Research2009,2,10: | 4
High-performance asymmetric supercapacitors based on reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline composite electrodes with sandwich-like structure显示文摘The sandwich-like structure of reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline(RGO/PANI) hybrid electrode was prepared by electrochemical deposition. Both the voltage windows and electrolytes for electrochemical deposition of PANI and RGO were optimized. In the composites, PANI nanofibers were anchored on the surface of the RGO sheets, which avoids the re-stacking of neighboring sheets. The RGO/PANI composite electrode shows a high specific capacitance of 466 F/g at 2 m A/cm^2 than that of previously reported RGO/PANI composites. Asymmetric flexible supercapacitors applying RGO/PANI as positive electrode and carbon fiber cloth as negative electrode can be cycled reversibly in the high-voltage region of 0–1.6 V and displays intriguing performance with a maximum specific capacitance of 35.5 m F cm^(-2). Also, it delivers a high energy density of 45.5 m W h cm^(-2) at power density of 1250 m W cm^(-2). Furthermore, the asymmetric device exhibits an excellent long cycle life with 97.6% initial capacitance retention after 5000 cycles.Such composite electrode has a great potential for applications in flexible electronics, roll-up display, and wearable devices. | Jun Ma Shaochun Tang Junaid Ali Syed Dongyun Su Xiangkang Meng | 2018 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,7: | 3
Exosomes Released from Rabies Virus-Infected Cells May be Involved in the Infection Process显示文摘Exosomes are cell-derived vesicles that are secreted by many eukaryotic cells. It has recently attracted attention as vehicles of intercellular communication. Virus-infected cells release exosomes, which contain viral proteins, RNA, and pathogenic molecules. However, the role of exosomes in virus infection process remains unclear and needs to be further investigated. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of exosomes on rabies virus infection. OptiPrep^(TM) density gradient centrifugation was used to isolate exosomes from rabies virus-infected cell culture supernatants. A rabies virus G protein enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and acetylcholinesterase activity assays were performed to verify the centrifugation fractions. Exosomes were then characterized using transmission electron microscopy and Western blotting. Our results showed that rabies virus infection increased the release of exosomes. Treatment with GW4869 and si-Rab27 a, two exosomal secretion inhibitors, inhibited exosome release. Furthermore, the inhibitors reduced the levels of extracellular and intracellular viral RNA. These data indicated that exosomes may participate in the viral infection process. Moreover, our results establish a basis for future research into the roles of exosomes in rabies virus infection and as potential targets for developing new antiviral strategies. | Jingyu Wang Fan Wu Chuntian Liu Wenwen Dai Yawei Teng Weiheng Su Wei Kong Feng Gao Linjun Cai Ali Hou Chunlai Jiang | 2019 | Virologica Sinica2019,34,1: | 3
Machine learning and geostatistical approaches for estimating aboveground biomass in Chinese subtropical forests显示文摘Background:Aboveground biomass(AGB)is a fundamental indicator of forest ecosystem productivity and health and hence plays an essential role in evaluating forest carbon reserves and supporting the development of targeted forest management plans. Methods:Here,we proposed a random forest/co-kriging framework that integrates the strengths of machine learning and geostatistical approaches to improve the mapping accuracies of AGB in northern Guangdong Province of China. We used Landsat time-series observations,Advanced Land Observing Satellite(ALOS)Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar(PALSAR)data, and National Forest Inventory(NFI)plot measurements,to generate the forest AGB maps at three time points(1992,2002 and 2010)showing the spatio-temporal dynamics of AGB in the subtropical forests in Guangdong,China. Results:The proposed model was capable of mapping forest AGB using spectral, textural, topographical variables and the radar backscatter coefficients in an effective and reliable manner. The root mean square error of the plotlevel AGB validation was between 15.62 and 53.78 t∙ha^(−1),the mean absolute error ranged from 6.54 to 32.32 t∙ha^(−1),the bias ranged from−2.14 to 1.07 t∙ha^(−1),and the relative improvement over the random forest algorithm was between 3.8%and 17.7%.The largest coefficient of determination(0.81)and the smallest mean absolute error(6.54 t∙ha^(−1)were observed in the 1992 AGB map.The spectral saturation effect was minimized by adding the PALSAR data to the modeling variable set in 2010.By adding elevation as a covariable, the co-kriging outperformed the ordinary kriging method for the prediction of the AGB residuals, because co-kriging resulted in better interpolation results in the valleys and plains of the study area. Conclusions:Validation of the three AGB maps with an independent dataset indicated that the random forest/cokriging performed best for AGB prediction, followed by random forest coupled with ordinary kriging(random forest/ordinary kriging),and the random forest model. The proposed random forest/co-kriging framework provides an accurate and reliable method for AGB mapping in subtropical forest regions with complex topography. The resulting AGB maps are suitable for the targeted development of forest management actions to promote carbon sequestration and sustainable forest management in the context of climate change. | Huiyi Su Wenjuan Shen Jingrui Wang Arshad Ali Mingshi Li | 2020 | Forest Ecosystems2020,7,4: | 3

The families Distoseptisporaceae fam.nov.,Kirschsteiniotheliaceae,Sporormiaceae and Torulaceae, with new species from freshwater in Yunnan Province,China显示文摘During a north–south latitudinal survey of aquatic fungi on submerged wood and herbaceous material in streams in the Asian region,we collected several hyphomycetous taxa. This paper is part of a series where we provide illustrated accounts of these taxa and place them in a natural classification in the fungi.DNA sequence based phylogenies in recent literature have shown that Dendryphion,Sporidesmium and Torula-like species are polyphyletic in the phylum Ascomycota and their taxonomyhas been problematic due to a lack of understanding of the importance of morphological characters used to delimit taxa,as well as the lack of ex-type or reference strains.Based on multi-locus phylogenies together with morphology,we propose the novel family Distoseptisporaceae(Sordariomycetes)and three novel genera Neotorula(Pleosporales,Dothideomycetes),Distoseptispora(Sordariomycetes)and Pseudosporidesmium(Sordariomycetes). In addition,Dendryphion aquaticum,D.submersum,Distoseptispora fluminicola,D.aquatica,Kirschsteiniothelia submersa,Neotorula aquatica,Sporidesmium aquaticum,S.submersum and S.fluminicola are introduced as new species.Pseudosporidesmium knawiae comb.nov.is proposed to accommodate Sporidesmium knawiae in Sordariomycetes. The polyphyletic nature of Dendryphion,Sporidesmium and Torula-like species are partially resolved, but further sampling with fresh collections and molecular data of species are needed to obtain a natural classification. | HongYan Su Kevin D.Hyde Sajeewa S.N.Maharachchikumbura Hiran A.Ariyawansa ZongLong Luo Itthayakorn Promputtha Qing Tian ChuanGen Lin QiuJu Shang YongChang Zhao HongMei Chai XiaoYing Liu Ali H.Bahkali Jayarama D.Bhat Eric H.C.McKenzie DeQun Zhou | 2016 | Fungal Diversity2016,,5: | 2
Serological Investigation of Laboratory-Confirmed and Suspected Ebola Virus Disease Patients During the Late Phase of the Ebola Outbreak in Sierra Leone显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the serological characteristics of Ebola virus(EBOV) infection during the late phase of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. In total, 877 blood samples from 694 suspected Ebola virus disease(EVD) cases assessed from March to December 2015, were analyzed via real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) for viral RNA and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and Luminex to detect antibodies against EBOV. Viral load and EBOV-specific IgM/IgG titers displayed a declining trend during March to December 2015. Viral RNA load decreased rapidly at earlier stages after disease onset, while EBOV-specific IgM and IgG still persisted in 58.1%(18/31) and 93.5%(29/31) of the confirmed EVD patients and in 3.8%(25/663) and 17.8%(118/663) of the RNA-negative suspected patients in the later phase, respectively. Dynamic analysis of longitudinally collected samples from eight EVD patients revealed typically reversed trends of declining viral load and increasing IgM and/or IgG titers in response to the EBOV infection. The present results indicate that certain populations of Sierra Leone developed immunity to an EBOV infection in the late phase of the outbreak, providing novel insights into the risk assessment of EBOV infections among human populations. | Yang Liu YuLan Sun Wei Wu AQian Li XianDa Yang Shuo Zhang Chuan Li QiuDong Su ShaoJian Cai DaPeng Sun HaiYang Hu Zhe Zhang XiuXu Yang Idrissa Kamara Sheku Koroma Gerald Bangura Alie Tia Abdul Kamara Matt Lebby Brima Kargbo Jiandong Li Shiwen Wang XiaoPing Dong YueLong Shu WenBo Xu George F. | 13 | Strain-regulated sensing properties of α-Fe_(2)O_(3) nano-cylinders with atomic carbon layers for ethanol detection显示文摘The sensitivity of ethanol sensor is of paramount importance in a variety of areas, including chemical production with ethanol, alcohol testing for driving safety,etc.Herein,α-Fe_(2)O_(3) nano-cylinders with atomic carbon layers are synthesized, for the first time, through in-situ catalytic chemical vapor deposition combined with hydrothermal techniques for the detection of ethanol. The reported α-Fe_(2)O_(3)@C nano-cylinders with double surficial strain effects deliver an ethanol detection sensitivity of 8 times as compared with α-Fe_(2)O_(3) nano-cylinders,10 times higher as compared with its detection sensitivity to ammonia,para-xylene,methanol and benzene. The sensor also exhibits over-14-day operation stability and the minimum detection limit of 10 ppm.To our best knowledge, the performances surpass those of previously reported α-Fe_(2)O_(3).Such attractive performances are attributed to the enhanced charge transfer in α-Fe_(2)O_(3) owing to the double surficial strain effects of α-Fe_(2)O_(3)@C nano-cylinders and the efficient adsorption of ethanol with atomic carbon layers. | Huajing Xiong Jianan Fu Jinyao Li Rashad Ali Hong Wang Yifan Liu Hua Su Yuanxun Li Woon-Ming Lau Nasir Mahmood Chunhong Mu Xian Jian | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,9: | 2
Nanoengineered Shear-Thinning Hydrogel Barrier for Preventing Postoperative Abdominal Adhesions显示文摘More than 90%of surgical patients develop postoper-ative adhesions, and the incidence of hospital re-admissions can be as high as 20%.Current adhesion barriers present limited efficacy due to difficulties in application and incompatibility with minimally invasive interventions. To solve thisclinical limitation,we developed an injectable and sprayable shear-thinning hydrogel barrier(STHB)composed of silicate nanoplatelets and poly(ethylene oxide). We optimized this technology to recover mechanical integrity after stress, enabling its delivery though inject-able and sprayable methods. We also demonstrated limited cell adhesion and cytotoxicity to STHB compositions in vitro. The STHB was then tested in a rodent model of peritoneal injury to determine its e cacy preventing the formation of postoperative adhesions. After two weeks, the peritoneal adhesion index was used as a scoring method to determine the formation of postoperative adhesions, and STHB formulations presented superior e cacy compared to a commercially available adhesion barrier.Histological and immunohistochemical examination showed reduced adhesion formation and minimal immune infiltration in STHB formulations. Our technology demonstrated increased e cacy, ease of use in complex anatomies, and compatibility with di erent delivery methods, providing a robust universal platform to prevent postoperative adhesions in a wide range of surgical interventions. | Guillermo U.Ruiz-Esparza Xichi Wang Xingcai Zhang Sofia Jimenez-Vazquez Liliana Diaz-Gomez Anne-Marie Lavoie Samson Afewerki Andres AFuentes-Baldemar Roberto Parra-Saldivar Nan Jiang Nasim Annabi Bahram Saleh Ali K.Yetisen Amir Sheikhi Thomas H.Jozefiak Su Ryon Shin Nianguo Dong Ali Khademhosseini | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,12: | 2
Seismic stability analysis of slopes with pre-existing slip surfaces显示文摘In analyzing seismic stability of a slope with upper bound limit analysis method, the slip surface is often assumed as a log-spiral or plane slip surface. However, due to the presence of a weak layer and unfavorable geological structural surface or a bedrock interface with overlying soft strata, the preexisting slip surface of the slope may be irregular and composed of a series of planes rather than strictly logspiral or plane shape. A computational model is developed for analyzing the seismic stability of slopes with pre-existing slip surfaces. This model is based on the upper bound limit analysis method and can consider the effect of anchor bolts. The soil or rock is deemed to follow the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion. The slope is divided into multiple block elements along the slip surface. According to the displacement compatibility and the associated flow rule, a kinematic velocity field of the slope can be obtained computationally. The proposed model allows not only calculation of the rate of external work owing to the combined effect of self-weight and seismic loading, but also that of the energy dissipation rate caused by the slip surface, interfaces of block elements and anchorage effect of the anchors. Considering a direct relationship between the rate of external work and the energy dissipation rate, the expressions of yield acceleration and permanent displacement of anchored slopes can be derived. Finally, the validity of this proposed model is illustrated by analysis on three typical slopes. The results showed that the proposed model is more easily formulated and does not need to solve complex equations or time consuming iterations compared with previous methods based on the conditions of force equilibrium. | su li-jun sun chang-ning yu fang-wei ali sarfraz | 2018 | Journal of Mountain Science2018,15,6: | 2

Prevalent fecal contamination in drinking water resources and potential health risks in Swat, Pakistan显示文摘Fecal bacteria contaminate water resources and result in associated waterborne diseases. This study assessed drinking water quality and evaluated their potential health risks in Swat, Pakistan. Ground and surface drinking water were randomly collected from upstream to downstream in the River Swat watershed and analyzed for fecal contamination using fecal indicator bacteria(Escherichia coli) and physiochemical parameters(potential of hydrogen, turbidity, temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solid, color, odor and taste). The physiochemical parameters were within their safe limits except in a few locations, whereas, the fecal contaminations in drinking water resources exceeded the drinking water quality standards of Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency(Pak-EPA),2008 and World Health Organization(WHO), 2011. Multivariate and univariate analyses revealed that downstream urbanization trend, minimum distance between water sources and pit latrines/sewerage systems, raw sewage deep well injection and amplified urban, pastures and agricultural runoffs having human and animal excreta were the possible sources of contamination. The questionnaire survey revealed that majority of the local people using 10–20 years old drinking water supply schemes at the rate of 73% well supply,13% hand pump supply, 11% spring supply and 3% river/streams supply, which spreads high prevalence of water borne diseases including hepatitis, intestinal infections and diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, typhoid fever, jaundice and skin diseases in children followed by older and younger adults. | Kifayatullah Khan Yonglong Lu Mian Abdal Saeed Hazrat Bilal Hassan Sher Hizbullah Khan Jafar Ali Pei Wang Herman Uwizeyimana Yvette Baninla Qifeng Li Zhaoyang Liu Javed Nawab Yunqiao Zhou Chao Su Ruoyu Liang | 2018 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,10: | 1
