| 2 | Origin and Evolution of Core Components Responsible for Monitoring Light Environment Changes during Plant Terrestrialization显示文摘Light serves as the source of energy as well as an information signal for photosynthetic plants. During evolution, plants have acquired the ability to monitor environmental light radiation and adjust their developmental patterns to optimally utilize light energy for photosynthesis. The mechanisms of light perception and signal transduction have been comprehensively studied in past decades, mostly in a few model plants, including Arabidopsis thaliana. However, systematic analyses of the origin and evolution of core components involved in light perception and signaling are still lacking. In this study, we took advantage of the recently sequenced genomes and transcriptomes covering all the main Archaeplastida clades in the public domain to identify orthologous genes of core components involved in light perception and signaling and to reconstruct their evolutionary history. Our analyses suggested that acclimation to different distribution of light quality in new environments led to the origination of specific light signaling pathways in plants. The UVR8 (UV Resistance Locus 8) signaling pathway originated during the movement of plants from the deeper sea to shallow water and enabled plants to deal with ultraviolet B light (UV-B). After acquisition of UV-B adaptation, origination of the phytochrome signaling pathway helped plants to colonize water surface where red light became the prominent light energy source. The seedling emergence pathway, which is mediated by a combination of light and phytohormone signals that orchestrate plant growth pattern transitions, originated before the emergence of seed plants. | 3 | Design of a Passive Gait‑based Ankle‑foot Exoskeleton with Self‑adaptive Capability显示文摘Propulsion during push-off is the key to realizing human locomotion.Humans have evolved a way of walking with high energy utilization,but it can be further improved.Drawing inspiration from the muscle-tendon unit,a passive spring-actuated ankle-foot exoskeleton is designed to assist with human walking and to lengthen walking duration by mechanically enhancing walking efficiency.Detection of the gait events is realized using a smart clutch,which is designed to detect the contact states between the shoe sole and the ground,and automatically switch its working state.The engagement of a suspended spring behind the human calf muscles is hence controlled and is in synchrony with gait.The device is completely passive and contains no external power source.Energy is stored and returned passively using the clutch.In our walking trials,the soleus electromyography activity is reduced by as much as 72.2%when the proposed ankle-foot exoskeleton is worn on the human body.The influence of the exoskeleton on walking habits is also studied.The results show the potential use of the exoskeleton in humans’daily life. | Xiangyang Wang Sheng Guo Bojian Qu Majun Song Haibo Qu | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2020,33,3: | 5 |

| 6 | Comparison of the interface reaction behaviors of CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) solid-state systems based on the diffusion couple method显示文摘The formation mechanism of calcium vanadate and manganese vanadate and the difference between calcium and manganese in the reaction with vanadium are basic issues in the calcification roasting and manganese roasting process with vanadium slag.In this work,CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples were prepared and roasted for different time periods to illustrate and compare the diffusion reaction mechanisms.Then,the changes in the diffusion product and diffusion coefficient were investigated and calculated based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis.Results show that with the extension of the roasting time,the diffusion reaction gradually proceeds among the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples.The regional boundaries of calcium and vanadium are easily identifiable for the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple.Meanwhile,for the MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple,MnO_(2) gradually decomposes to form Mn_(2)O_(3),and vanadium diffuses into the interior of Mn_(2)O_(3).Only a part of vanadium combines with manganese to form the diffusion production layer.CaV_(2)O_(6) and MnV_(2)O_(6) are the interfacial reaction products of the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples,respectively,whose thicknesses are 39.85 and 32.13μm when roasted for 16 h.After 16 h,both diffusion couples reach the reaction equilibrium due to the limitation of diffusion.The diffusion coefficient of the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple is higher than that of the MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple for the same roasting time,and the diffusion reaction between vanadium and calcium is easier than that between vanadium and manganese. | Jing Wen Hongyan Sun Tao Jiang Bojian Chen Fangfang Li Mengxia Liu | 2023 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2023,30,5: | 2 |
| 7 | Phylogenomic Insights into Deep Phylogeny of Angiosperms Based on Broad Nuclear Gene Sampling显示文摘Angiosperms(flowering plants)are the most diverse and species-rich group of plants.The vast majority(99.95%)of angiosperms form a clade called Mesangiospermae,which is subdivided into five major groups:eudicots,monocots,magnoliids,Chloranthales,and Ceratophyllales.The relationships among these Mesangiospermae groups have been the subject of long debate.In this study,we assembled a phylogenomic dataset of 1594 genes from 151 angiosperm taxa,including representatives of all five lineages,to investigate the phylogeny of major angiosperm lineages under both coalescent-and concatenationbased methods.We dissected the phylogenetic signal and found that more than half of the genes lack phylogenetic information for the backbone of angiosperm phylogeny.We further removed the genes with weak phylogenetic signal and showed that eudicots,Ceratophyllales,and Chloranthales form a clade,with magnoliids and monocots being the next successive sister lineages.Similar frequencies of gene tree conflict are suggestive of incomplete lineage sorting along the backbone of the angiosperm phylogeny.Our analyses suggest that a fully bifurcating species tree may not be the best way to represent the early radiation of angiosperms.Meanwhile,we inferred that the crown-group angiosperms originated approximately between 255.1 and 222.2 million years ago,and Mesangiospermae diversified into the five extant groups in a short time span(27 million years)at the Early to Late Jurassic. | Lingxiao Yang Danyan Su Xin Chang Charles SPFoster Linhua Sun Chien-Hsun Huang Xiaofan Zhou Liping Zeng Hong Ma Bojian Zhong | 2020 | Plant Communications2020,1,2: | 2 |
| 8 | Tropical deciduous forest in Yunnan,southwestern China:Implications for geological and climatic histories from a little-known forest formation显示文摘In the southern mountain ranges of Yunnan province,China,deep valleys of several large rivers create rain shadows with hot dry summers,and are locally designated tropical;towards the north,notably in the Lancang(Upper Mekong)valley,these regions may experience frost during winter.The woody forest canopy of these valleys is predominantly deciduous,with evergreen elements in the north,where the canopy is open and the forest savanna-like.However,we here present tall forest with a closed deciduous canopy and semi-evergreen subcanopy observed in hot dry valleys of these rivers and their tributaries in the tropical south.The structure and physiognomy of these forests resemble the tall(moist)deciduous forest formation widespread in South Asia and Indo-Burma.Furthermore,these forests are largely composed of tropical elements at both the generic(80%)and the species level(>70%),indicating that these forests are indeed tropical.We originally hypothesized that these isolated forests represent refugia of a pre-Holocene extension of tall(moist)deciduous forest formation of South Asia and Indo-Burma.The sample plot we established to test this hypothesis confirmed that these forests share the structure and physiognomy of the tall(moist)deciduous forest formation;however,the plots also showed that these forests lack the characteristic and dominant species of the formation's Indo-Burmese range.The tree flora,in particular,indicates that both deciduous and evergreen elements are instead mostly derived from the adjacent tropical semi-evergreen forests of tropical southern China;yet they also include an important endemic element,which implies that these forests have survived as refuges possibly since the Pliocene.The exceptional representation of evergreen elements in these forests indicates that they have rarely been subject to hot fires or domestic cattle browsing,adding to the unique nature of the forests and further justifying their strict conservation. | Hua Zhu Peter Ashton Bojian Gu Shisun Zhou Yunhong Tan | 2021 | Plant Diversity2021,43,6: | 2 |
