| 1 | Genome-wide Dissection of Co-selected UV-B Responsive Pathways in the UV-B Adaptation of Qingke显示文摘Qingke (Tibetan hulless barley) has long been cultivated and exposed to long-term and strong UV-B radiation on the Tibetan Plateau, which renders it an ideal species for elucidating novel UV-B responsive mechanisms in plants. Here we report a comprehensive metabolite profiling and metabolite-based genome-wide association study (mGWAS) using 196 diverse qingke and barley accessions. Our results demonstrated both constitutive and induced accumulation, and common genetic regulation, of metabolites from different branches of the phenylpropanoid pathway that are involved in UV-B protection. A total of 90 significant mGWAS loci for these metabolites were identified in barley-qingke differentiation regions, and a number of high-level metabolite trait alleles were found to be significantly enriched in qingke, suggesting co-selection of various phenylpropanoids. Upon dissecting the entire phenylpropanoid pathway, we identified some key determinants controlling natural variation of phenylpropanoid content, including three novel proteins, a flavone C-pentosyltransferase, a tyramine hydroxycinnamoyl acyltransferase, and a MYB transcription factor. | 2 | Effects of surface waves and sea spray on air–sea fluxes during the passage of Typhoon Hagupit显示文摘Air–sea exchange plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of tropical cyclones(TCs). Although studies have suggested the dependence of air–sea fluxes on surface waves and sea spray, how these processes modify those fluxes under TC conditions have not been sufficiently investigated based on in-situ observations.Using continuous meteorological and surface wave data from a moored buoy in the northern South China Sea,this study examines the effects of surface waves and sea spray on air–sea fluxes during the passage of Typhoon Hagupit. The mooring was within about 40 km of the center of Hagupit. Surface waves could increase momentum flux to the ocean by about 15%, and sea spray enhanced both sensible and latent heat fluxes to the atmosphere,causing Hagupit to absorb 500 W/m^2 more heat flux from the ocean. | 8 | Physicochemical properties of gelatin produced from Nile tilapia skin using chemical and fermentation pretreatments显示文摘In this study,we aimed to verify the effectiveness of fermentation as a pretreatment in Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus)skin gelatin production and to assess its effects on the extracted gelatin.Chemical-gelatin(CG)and fermentation-gelatin(FG)were extracted using hot water from tilapia skin after immersion in chemical reagents(sodium hydroxide and butanol)and after fermentation with Bacillus velezensis FEL-BM21,respectively.FG presented a higher recovery(27.40%),yield(49.99%),and imino acid(proline and hydroxyproline)content(177.17±0.35 residues/1000 residues)than CG,but had a lower molecular weight.Fourier transform infrared and circular dichroism spectroscopy confirmed that the collagen was denatured,and scanning electron microscopy revealed that FG had a more continuous filamentous structure than CG.Furthermore,except for transmittance(66.19%at 450 nm and 86.36%at 620 nm),FG exhibited higher gel strength(492.81 g),gelling point(28.93℃),and melting point(18.33℃)than CG.These findings suggest that fermentation can be used to treat gelatin raw materials without negatively affecting the structure of gelatin.Moreover,fermentation has potential industrial applications as an alternative to chemical treatment. | Tingju Chen Zengliu Song Huanming Liu Chunxia Zhou Pengzhi Hong Chujin Deng | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022，47，3： | 1 |
