| 2 | A mass balanced model of trophic structure and energy flows of a semi-closed marine ecosystem显示文摘The marine ecosystem of the Jiaozhou Bay has degraded significantly in fisheries productivity and its ecological roles as spawning and nursery ground for many species of commercial importance has been declining in recent years. A mass-balanced trophic model was developed using Ecopath with Ecosim to evaluate the trophic structure of the Jiaozhou Bay for improving ecosystem management. The model were parameterized based on the fisheries survey data in the Jiaozhou Bay in 2011, including 23 species groups and one detritus group according to their ecological roles. The trophic levels of these ecological groups ranged from 1(primary producers and detritus) to4.3(large demersal fishes). The estimated total system throughput was 12 917.10 t/(km^2·a), with 74.59% and25.41% contribution of the total energy flows from phytoplankton and detritus, respectively. Network analyses showed that the overall transfer efficiency of the ecosystem was 14.4%, and the mean transfer efficiency was 14.5%for grazing food chain and 13.9% for detritus food chain. The system omnivory index(SOI), Finn's cycled index(FCI) and connectance index(CI) were relatively low in this area while the total primary production/total respiration(TPP/TR) was high, indicating an immature and unstable status of the Jiaozhou Bay ecosystem. Mixed trophic impact analysis revealed that the cultured shellfish had substantial negative impacts on most functional groups. | 3 | Macroalgae Blooms and their Effects on Seagrass Ecosystems显示文摘Seagrass decline caused by the macroalgae blooms is becoming a common phenomenon throughout temperate and tropical regions. We summarized the incidence of macroalgae blooms throughout the world and their impact on seagrass beds by direct and indirect ways. The competition for living space and using resources is the most direct effect on seagrass beds when macroalgae are blooming in an aquatic ecosystem. The consequence of macroalgae blooms(e.g., light reduction, hypoxia, and decomposition) can produce significant indirect effects on seagrass beds. Light reduction by the macroalgae can decrease the growth and recruitment of seagrasses, and decomposition of macroalgae mats can increase the anoxic and eutrophic conditions, which can further constrict the seagrass growth. Meanwhile, the presence of seagrass shoots can provide substrate for the macroalgae blooms. Controlling nutrient sources from the land to coastal waters is a general efficient way for coastal management. | 4 | Chalkiness Characters and Scanning Electron Microscope Observation of Rice Grain Endosperm of Japonica Varieties in Southern Henan显示文摘Chalkiness characters affect not only the grain appearance,milling,eating and cooking qualities but also the grain nutritional quality in rice,thus it is one of the most important traits in rice. It is very important for us to investigate the relation of the chalkiness formation and the development of endosperm structure and starch granule of different rice varieties. Here,we have investigated the chalkiness characters such as chalkiness rate,chalkiness degree and chalkiness area in 15 japonica rice varieties from southern Henan. Furthermore,the endosperm structure and starch granules of rice grain were also observed with scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the 15 japonica varieties have a significantly linear relationship between the chalkiness rate and chalkiness degree. Among the varieties,the biggest difference is the chalkiness rate,the second is the chalkiness area,and the last is the chalkiness degree. Moreover,there is a certain correlation between the distribution of starch granules,the arrangement of endosperm cells and the occurrence of grain chalkiness in the different rice varieties. For the same variety,the starch granules of chalky and non-chalky grains have obvious difference,while the starch granules from the transparent part of chalky rice and non-chalky rice do not have significant difference. The structure-activity relationships have been well-studied and used to facilitate design of the structure and composition of highly active catalysts. Recently, non-noble metal oxides with porous structures have been used as catalysts for deep oxidation of VOCs, such as aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic compounds, aldehydes, and alcohols, with comparable activities to their noble metal counterparts. | 6 | Catalytic performance of hybrid Pt@ZnO NRs on carbon fibers for methanol electro-oxidation显示文摘A novel Pt@ZnO nanorod/carbon fiber(NR/CF) with hierarchical structure was prepared by atomic layer deposition combined with hydrothermal synthesis and magnetron sputtering(MS). The morphology of Pt changes from nanoparticle to nanorod bundle with controlled thickness of Pt between 10 and 50 nm.Significantly, with the increase of voltage from 0 to 0.6 V(vs. standard calomel electrode), the prompt photocurrent generated on Zn O NR/CF increases from 0.235 to 0.725 m A. Besides, the Pt@Zn O NR/CF exhibited higher electrochemical active surface area(ECSA) value, better methanol oxidation ability and CO tolerance than Pt@CF, which demonstrated the importance of the multifunctional Zn O support. As the thickness of Pt increasing from 10 to 50 nm, the ECSA values were improved proportionally, leading to the improvement of methanol oxidation ability. | 8 | Beak Measurements of Octopus (Octopus variabilis) in Jiaozhou Bay and Their Use in Size and Biomass Estimation显示文摘Cephalopods play key roles in global marine ecosystems as both predators and preys.Regressive estimation of original size and weight of cephalopod from beak measurements is a powerful tool of interrogating the feeding ecology of predators at higher trophic levels.In this study,regressive relationships among beak measurements and body length and weight were determined for an octopus species(Octopus variabilis),an important endemic cephalopod species in the northwest Pacific Ocean.A total of 193 individuals(63 males and 130 females) were collected at a monthly interval from Jiaozhou Bay,China.Regressive relationships among 6 beak measurements(upper hood length,UHL;upper crest length,UCL;lower hood length,LHL;lower crest length,LCL;and upper and lower beak weights) and mantle length(ML),total length(TL) and body weight(W) were determined.Results showed that the relationships between beak size and TL and beak size and ML were linearly regressive,while those between beak size and W fitted a power function model.LHL and UCL were the most useful measurements for estimating the size and biomass of O.variabilis.The relationships among beak measurements and body length(either ML or TL) were not significantly different between two sexes;while those among several beak measurements(UHL,LHL and LBW) and body weight(W) were sexually different.Since male individuals of this species have a slightly greater body weight distribution than female individuals,the body weight was not an appropriate measurement for estimating size and biomass,especially when the sex of individuals in the stomachs of predators was unknown.These relationships provided essential information for future use in size and biomass estimation of O.variabilis,as well as the estimation of predator/prey size ratios in the diet of top predators. | XUE Ying REN Yiping MENG Wenrong LI Long MAO Xia HAN Dongyan MA Qiuyun | 2013 | Journal of Ocean University of China2013,12,3: | 2 |

| 10 | Impacts of El Nino on the somatic condition of Humboldt squid based on the beak morphology显示文摘The Humboldt squid Dosidicus gigas has a short life span, and environmental variability plays a significant role in regulating its population dynamics and distribution. An analysis of 1 096 samples of D. gigas collected by the Chinese commercial fishing vessels during 2013, 2014, and 2016 off the Peruvian Exclusive Economic Zone, was conducted to evaluate the impacts of El Nino events on the somatic condition of D. gigas. This study indicates that the slopes of all beak variables in relation to mantle length (ML) for females were greater than those of males during 2013, 2014, and 2016, and slopes of the upper crest length and the lower rostrum length significantly differed between females and males in 2013 (P<0.05). Variation in the slopes for beak variables among years was studied;no significant difference was observed (ANCOVA, P>0.05). The Fulton's condition coefficients (K) of females and males in 2013 and 2014 were significantly greater than those in 2016 (P<0.01). The K values of females were greater than those of males in 2013, 2014, and 2016, and K values significantly differed between females and males in 2013. In normal years, the chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration showed an N-shaped variability from January to December. However, in the El Nino period, it tended to weaken the upwelling coupled with warm and low Chl a concentration waters. | 12 | Impacts of sample size for stomach content analysis on the estimation of ecosystem indices显示文摘This study used Ecopath model of the Jiaozhou Bay as an example to evaluate the effect of stomach sample size of three fish species on the projection of this model. The derived ecosystem indices were classified into three categories:(1) direct indices, like the trophic level of species, influenced by stomach sample size directly;(2)indirect indices, like ecology efficiency(EE) of invertebrates, influenced by the multiple prey-predator relationships;and(3) systemic indices, like total system throughout(TST), describing the status of the whole ecosystem. The influences of different stomach sample sizes on these indices were evaluated. The results suggest that systemic indices of the ecosystem model were robust to stomach sample sizes, whereas specific indices related to species were indicated to be with low accuracy and precision when stomach samples were insufficient.The indices became more uncertain when the stomach sample sizes varied for more species. This study enhances the understanding of how the quality of diet composition data influences ecosystem modeling outputs. | 16 | Regeneration patterns and drivers of different underutilized lands in the rust belt city of developing country:An empirical case study for Northeast China显示文摘Rust belt cities are largely threatened by a waste of urban space at their core;however,in developing countries where land resources are widely used as instruments for macroeconomic stabilization,urban periphery is also at risk of being underutilized due to land hoarding.Such geographic differences entail new knowledge about how,where,and why underutilized lands are regenerated in the city.Furthermore,rapid urban growth imposes development disparity and mixed underutilization issues on cities in developing countries;therefore,how the geo-information obtained by the regeneration of different underutilized lands differs will be valuable for urban planners and policymakers to make prudent trade-offs.To fill these gaps,we conducted a sequential investigation into the regeneration of underutilized lands in a representative rust belt city – Changchun City in Northeast China,in an attempt to measure the regeneration pattern and analyze the underlying determinants using the Classification and Regression Trees analysis.The results indicated that,of all underutilized lands,increments of vacant lot and remnant cultivated land continued to plague the expanding urban periphery during 2016–2019.In a way,reduced underutilized lands alleviated land use conflicts at the city core.Nearly 23% of the underutilized areas had been regenerated,dominated by realty development,with most converted to residential lands,ecological lands and industrial lands.On the contrary,conversion to transportation lands and parking lots seemed to avoid the rapidly expanding sites.The regeneration rates in a certain area can be increased by a multitude of factors,including denser,simply structured land underutilization,abundant ecosystem services nearby and accessibility to public infrastructures.Site conditions such as residential density and accessibility may have fueled the regeneration associated with residential purposes,while regeneration of industrial development was closely associated with the underutilization density and parcel regularity.This research provides an empirical paradigm for delivering regeneration geo-information across different underutilized lands,particularly for rust belt cities that are caught between a shrinking core and speculative periphery. | LI Wenbo LI Han YAN Zhuoran HU Bingqing ZHU Yuanli YANG Yuewen WANG Dongyan | 2023 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2023,33,7: | 0 |
| 17 | Molecular analysis of Coxsackievirus A24 variant isolates from three outbreaks of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis in 1988,1994 and 2007 in Beijing,China显示文摘Coxsackievirus A24 variant(CVA24v)is a major pathogen that causes continued outbreaks and pandemics of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis(AHC).In China,the first confirmed outbreak of CVA24v-related AHC occurred in Beijing in 1988,followed by another two significant outbreaks respectively in 1994 and 2007,which coincides with the three-stage dynamic distribution of AHC in the world after 1970s.To illustrate the genetic characteristics of CVA24v in different periods,a total of 23 strains were isolated from those three outbreaks and the whole genome of those isolations were sequenced and analyzed.Compared with the prototype strain,the 23 strains shared four nucleotide deletions in the 5'UTR except the 0744 strain isolated in 2007.And at the 98th site,one nucleotide insertion was found in all the strains collected from 2007.From 1994 to 2007,amino acid polarity in the VP1 region at the 25th and the 32nd site were changed.Both the 3C and VP1 phylogenetic tree indicated that isolates from 1988 and 1994 belonged to Genotype III(GIII),and 2007 strains to Genotype IV(GIV).According to the Bayesian analysis based on complete genome sequence,the most recent common ancestors for the isolates in1988,1994 and 2007 were respectively estimated around October 1987,February 1993 and December 2004.The evolutionary rate of the CVA24v was estimated to be 7.45×10^(-3) substitutions/site/year.Our study indicated that the early epidemic of CVA24v in Chinese mainland was the GIII.Point mutations and amino acid changes in different genotypes of CVA24v may generate intensity differences of the AHC outbreak.CVA24v has been evolving constantly with a relatively rapid rate. | Junhan Li Fang Huang Yong Zhang Tianjiao Ji Shuangli Zhu Dongyan Wang Zhenzhi Han Jinbo Xiao Fenfen Si Wenbo Xu Dongmei Yan | 2022 | Virologica Sinica2022,37,2: | 0 |
