Effect of bloodletting therapy at local myofascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji(EX-B 2) points on upper back myofascial pain syndrome: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of bloodletting therapy and acupuncture at Jiaji points for treating upper back myofascial pain syndrome(MPS), and compare this with lidocaine block therapy.METHODS: A total of 66 upper back MPS patients were randomly assigned to either the treatment group or the control group in a 1∶1 ratio. The treatment group(n = 33) were treated with bloodletting therapy at local myofascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji(EX-B 2) points; one treatment course consisted of five, single 20-min-treatments with a 2-day break between each treatment. The control group(n = 33) were treated with a lidocaine block at trigger points; one treatment course consisted of five sessions of lidocaine block therapy with a 2-day break between each session. The simplified Mc Gill Scale(SF-MPQ) and tenderness threshold determination were used to assess pain before and after a course of treatment.RESULTS: After the third and fifth treatment, the SF-MPQ values were significantly decreased(P <0.01) and the tenderness thresholds were significantly increased(P < 0.01) in both groups compared with before treatment. There were no significant differences in pain assessments between the two groups after three and five treatments(P >0.05). There were five cases with minor adverse reactions reported in the control patients, while no adverse reactions were reported in the treatment group.CONCLUSION: Bloodletting therapy at local myofascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji points was effective in treating upper back MPS.Clinically, bloodletting and acupuncture therapy had the same efficacy as the lidocaine block therapy, with fewer adverse reactions. | Jiang Guimei Jia Chao Lin Mode | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,1: | 5
Assimilating the along-track sea level anomaly into the regional ocean modeling system using the ensemble optimal interpolation显示文摘The ensemble optimal interpolation(EnOI) is applied to the regional ocean modeling system(ROMS) with the ability to assimilate the along-track sea level anomaly(TSLA). This system is tested with an eddy-resolving system of the South China Sea(SCS). Background errors are derived from a running seasonal ensemble to account for the seasonal variability within the SCS. A fifth-order localization function with a 250 km localization radius is chosen to reduce the negative effects of sampling errors. The data assimilation system is tested from January 2004 to December 2006. The results show that the root mean square deviation(RMSD) of the sea level anomaly decreased from 10.57 to 6.70 cm, which represents a 36.6% reduction of error. The data assimilation reduces error for temperature within the upper 800 m and for salinity within the upper 200 m, although error degrades slightly at deeper depths. Surface currents are in better agreement with trajectories of surface drifters after data assimilation. The variance of sea level improves significantly in terms of both the amplitude and position of the strong and weak variance regions after assimilating TSLA. Results with AGE error(AGE) perform better than no AGE error(NoAGE) when considering the improvements of the temperature and the salinity. Furthermore, reasons for the extremely strong variability in the northern SCS in high resolution models are investigated. The results demonstrate that the strong variability of sea level in the high resolution model is caused by an extremely strong Kuroshio intrusion. Therefore, it is demonstrated that it is necessary to assimilate the TSLA in order to better simulate the SCS with high resolution models. | LYU Guokun WANG Hui ZHU Jiang WANG Dakui XIE Jiping LIU Guimei | 2014 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,7: | 4

Spatiotemporal variation and mechanisms of temperature inversion in the Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean显示文摘In the northern Bay of Bengal, the existence of intense temperature inversion during winter is a widely accepted phenomenon. However, occurrences of temperature inversion during other seasons and the spatial distribution within and adjacent to the Bay of Bengal are not well understood. In this study,a higher resolution spatiotemporal variation of temperature inversion and its mechanisms are examined with mixed layer heat and salt budget analysis utilizing long-term Argo(2004 to 2020)and RAMA(2007 to 2020)profiles data in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean(EEIO).Temperature inversion exists(17.5%of the total 39293 Argo and 51.6%of the 28894 RAMA profiles)throughout the year in the entire study area.It shows strong seasonal variation, with the highest occurrences in winter and the lowest in spring.Besides winter inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal, two other regions with frequent temperature inversion are identified in this study for the first time:the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal and the eastern part of the EEIO during summer and autumn.Driving processes of temperature inversion for different subregions are revealed in the current study.Penetration of heat(mean~25 W/m;)below the haline-stratified shallow mixed layer leads to a relatively warmer subsurface layer along with the simultaneous cooling tendency in mixed layer, which controls more occurrence of temperature inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal throughout the year.Comparatively lower cooling tendency due to net surface heat loss and higher mixed layer salinity leaves the southern part of the bay less supportive to the formation of temperature inversion than the northern bay.In the EEIO,slightly cooling tendency in the mixed layer along with the subduction of warm-salty Arabian Sea water beneath the cold-fresher Bay of Bengal water, and downwelling of thermocline creates a favorable environment for forming temperature inversion mainly during summer and autumn.Deeper isothermal layer depth, and thicker barrier layer thickness intensify the temperature inversion both in the Bay of Bengal and EEIO. | K M Azam Chowdhury Wensheng Jiang Guimei Liu Md Kawser Ahmed Shaila Akhter | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,4: | 1

Generating homozygous mutant populations of barley microspores by ethyl methanesulfonate treatment显示文摘Induced mutations are important for genetic research and breeding.Mutations induced by physical or chemical mutagenesis are usually heterozygous during the early generations. However, mutations must be fixed prior to phenotyping or field trials, which requires additional rounds of self-pollination.Microspore culture is an effective method to produce double-haploid(DH)plants that are fixed homozygotes. In this study,we conducted ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced mutagenesis of microspore cultures of barley(Hordeum vulgare)cultivar‘Hua30’and landrace‘HTX’.The EMS concentrations were negatively correlated with the efficiency of callus induction and the frequency of mutant plant regeneration. The two genotypes showed different regeneration efficiencies. The phenotypic variation of the regenerated M1 plants and the presence of genome-wide nucleotide mutations, revealed by whole-genome sequencing, highlight the utility of EMS-induced mutagenesis of isolated microspore cultures for developing DH mutants.Genome-wide analysis of the mutation frequency in the regenerated plants revealed that a considerable proportion of mutations resulted from microspore culture(somaclonal variation)rather than EMS-induced mutagenesis. In addition to producing a population of 1972 homozygous mutant lines that are available for future field trials, this study lays the foundation for optimizing the regeneration efficiency of DH plants and the richness of mutations(mainly by fine-tuning the mutagen dosage). | Linli Huang Guangqi Gao Congcong Jiang Guimei Guo Qiang He Yingjie Zong Chenghong Liu Ping Yang | 2023 | aBIOTECH2023,4,3: | 0
Contributions of shortwave radiation to the formation of temperature inversions in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean:A modeling approach显示文摘Variations in incoming shortwave radiation influence the net surface heat flux, contributing to the formation of a temperature inversion. The effects of shortwave radiation on the temperature inversions in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean have never been investigated. Thus,a high-resolution(horizontal resolution of 0.07°×0.07° with 50 vertical layers) Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS) model is utilized to quantify the contributions of shortwave radiation to the temperature inversions in the study domain.Analyses of the mixed layer heat and salt budgets are performed, and different model simulations are compared. The model results suggest that a 30% change in shortwave radiation can change approximately 3% of the temperature inversion area in the Bay of Bengal.Low shortwave radiation reduces the net surface heat flux and cools the mixed layer substantially;it also reduces the evaporation rate, causing less evaporative water vapor losses from the ocean than the typical situation, and ultimately enhances haline stratification. Thus, the rudimentary outcome of this research is that a decrease in shortwave radiation produces more temperature inversion in the study region, which is primarily driven by the net surface cooling and supported by the intensive haline stratification. Moreover, low shortwave radiation eventually intensifies the temperature inversion layer by thickening the barrier layer. This study could be an important reference for predicting how the Indian Ocean climate will respond to future changes in shortwave radiation. | K M Azam Chowdhury Wensheng Jiang Changwei Bian Guimei Liu Md Kawser Ahmed Shaila Akhter | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,9: | 0
